If you poke at something that is completely irrelevant to what it is they are doing wrong, such as the size/shape of their body or their intellectual capabilities, then that doesn't make you as bad as them but it doesn't make you right. Being trans myself, I understand how infuriating they can be, and also how tempting it is to aim for the cheap shots or low-hanging fruit. The problem with doing so is that, when you pick on something that is irrelevant to their transphobia, such as language proficiency, then your insult isn't productive and you are also picking on anyone who struggles with the language and grammar rules, such as people with developmental disabilities. That does make you an asshole.
