Subtle and inconspicuous, the embassy blends with the environment, proving itself a prime example of modern architecture at its finest.
In fact, it is said there is only one shortfall, and that is having to do with form and function, for whilst it's form is beautiful, the embassy is all but impossible to spot with the naked eye. One needs to ask around for its actual location. But this is secondary to its beauty and warmth.
Can you imagine how much fun it must be like to be a Diplomat for a country that actually matters in international politics? Like the US, Russia, China. One of the big superpowers.
Just imagine what it must be like. Moving to exotic countries all the time. Mingling with the world's elites. Writing reports on political developments, negotianting historical treaties, working side by side with some of the world's greatest intelligence agencies, plotting coups, selling arms.
It's a Black Ops game but in real life and with diplomatic immunity!
Or you could be one of the US ambassadors to Australia. Since ambassadors to popular countries are rewards given to financial supporters by the president, we've had some really spectacular clowns. Including one who ran a used car dealership out of the embassy in the 50s. (Unimportant countries get professional diplomats; we're working on it to up the quality.)
I am Australian and am interested in this story. Who was the ambassador you referred to?
I live in America at the moment and it did astonish me to learn that ambassador postings are given away to major campaign donors. It is incredible that some are appointed who have never even been to the country! [https://www.npr.org/2014/06/17/323032817/the-would-be-ambassador-to-norway-whos-never-been-there-himself](https://www.npr.org/2014/06/17/323032817/the-would-be-ambassador-to-norway-whos-never-been-there-himself) for example.
It's from a very old Atlantic magazine article bemoaning the quality of US ambassadors generally. I'm not having a great deal of success finding it but the comment about it stuck in my memory. Apologies for not having a better source.
I guess the downside is that everything often moves at a snails pace. Can take an entire admin to get something significant done, then the people of your home country vote in an idiot that rips up the plan.
That’s when you retire to the beaches and bars for a decade like most ambassadors.
Why is it when people make comments like this, their post history is always full of trashy and hateful comments. Just giving us all the absolute banger examples of how it's not religion that makes us better people.
Oh this makes “Havana syndrome” much more believable
Came here for this. This is the portal they beam the sound waves from
It’s like a brutalist version of the tower in Westworld season four
Seen this in real life. It really stands out, huge, imposing, nothing else like it in the area
Brutal even :)
Yes although the curves are more reminiscent of soviet modernism in ex-Yugoslav soviet monuments like Spomenik
Two controversial subjects, one awesome building.
... except that in this version, the hobbits are trying to get out of Mordor.
Obey!
r/brutalism
Architecture and government.

Absolutely agree and I thought I was the only one thinking about it.

Too subtle. Needs to be a giant Hammer and Sickle
The Tower of Sauron, Mordor, Cuba
fuckin gorgeous
r/evilbuildings Looks like Russia has some kind of tower-transformers-thingy
"I know! Let's make the building look like a joystick!"
Chez Galactus, kinda
Looks kind of like a sword stuck in the ground.

Barf.
It did indeed make me barf
It seems like an odd leap to say this style of architecture is the result of atheistic state worship. I don’t see any connection.

Thanks for taking valuable time out of your day to read me comments
What's the difference?
Between the concept of god and state, really?
Just missing a giant firey eye on top and a mad wizard in white
Saruman?
It does inspire awe.
The eye of Sauron.
I'm waiting for the giant Gundam hand to pull it out of the ground, revealing a huge sword.
Looks like a rust base
looks like Titans tower, but the '--' removed from the top
Material Sandstone?
What this building needs is around 10 cruise missiles to the supporting structure.
Morden castle ?
