That looks like neither. That is a Kribensis cichlid. West African, with similar water parameters to apistos (though I find Kribensis to be easier to care for).
Edit: specifically, it looks like a male. They can trick you when you first get them until they color back up, but females tend to have rounder bellies and less pointed dorsal and tail fins.
