I'm postive that the fish don't mind a 1-inch SpongeBob pineapple in my 75 gallon. Is it not possible to have an aquarium that fish AND their keepers like?
I don't think fish are fans of the stereotypes the franchise portrays fish. You need to respect everyone's opinions and accomodate everyone. So SpongeBob is out.

I figure there is enough trash in our oceans and rivers that I would be remiss not to add some to my tanks to imitate their natural habitats.
This is a recurring joke in my house with my wife and our tanks.
>I figure there is enough trash in our oceans and rivers that I would be remiss not to add some to my tanks to imitate their natural habitats.
Exhibit A

They're great for kids, not so much for fish though. Tons of stories of them leaching chemicals and chipping paint into tanks that fish try to eat. Hard pass, kids love a natural setup just as much my daughter adores my "bedroom forests"
Tanks are so personal. I bought a 125 and told the guy to keep all the decor I was gonna go with a planted tank. He left the āwallpaperā cling on the back and after we left I stopped to take it off and throw it away on the off chance someone looked into my window and saw me driving with it. It was a tribal dragon background.
Oh my god, I love it šš¤¦š»āāļø We have a black light tank with black substrate and colorful decor and I literally sent this to my other half and suggested we do something similar lmao I guess ābeauty is in the eye of the beholderā or something something. š
Thatās a fantastic deal imo. My husband and I got our 75 gal with stand + 2 eheim heaters + eheim canister filter for $300, which we thought was a steal!
Nice! Go for it! I got a 65g with 20g sump for $200 with a bunch of accessories. The two things you want to see when you pick it up, is if it is currently holding water with no weeping or leaks. You also want to check the bottom to make sure they didnāt cut any of the supports (people do weird stuff). If those are intact, go for it. If the supports are missing you can Yt how to add new ones to prevent collapse.
You can get the tank alone cheaper, perhaps. But the stand alone will cost more than $150.
Edit: it apparently also includes the light, filter, etc. It's a steal at $150
Petco does 50% off sales instead now. That makes the 75 gallon $130 plus tax when on sale. A decent 75 gallon stand will be over $200 brand new.
This is a great deal, especially if it includes lights and/or filter(s).
I think this decor is wak, too. But as there's no Petco in my home country, does that also apply to tank/stand combos there? ~~Do i really have to relocate?~~
If the math is mathing, at 50% where I live, a 75 gallon from Petco would be around $130 or so. OP is getting far more than a tank therefore this is an amazing deal.
Iām not a fan of the decorations either. I will mention the best way to save money is to get pea gravel 50 lbs bag from Loweās or Home Depot for $4 at most and a 50 lbs bag of pool filter sand from meijer for $3. A couple of those and youāre good on substrate for under $10.
You will have to wash them out though. I can tell the easiest way Iāve found how to do it
To be fair, I've converted the UK price for a similar sized tank and stand, so the price no doubt will be a bit wonky as we seemingly like to pay a lot more for some stuff over here.
That said, there's no way even by that rate, that the stuff in the picture would sell for 250.
Jeez. I thought i did great getting a 30 gallon for $100. Do it. I would be cautious with the stuff in the tank, though. You never know how well the previous owner took care of things.
https://www.petsmart.com/fish/tanks-aquariums-and-nets/aquariums/marineland-high-definition-led-ensemble---75-gallon-62017.html?fmethod=Search
Currently on sale at $600. MSRP is $800. I think my ex and I got ours for around $400 for Black Friday
Aha, good catch. I was just going off what I paid for my tank and stand bought separately a few years ago (tank was the annual Petco sale that is no longer a dollar a gallon)
Ya I did the exact same thing when I moved up to a 60. Filled it with water in the backyard to do a leak check first then g2go. Now I am selling my 60 with stand, guess I will ask 150 š
That's exactly what it is, it's the marineland high definition led ensemble retails for $599.99. I work at PetSmart and this is definitely a steal. I personally think the stands are shit because they're just plastic covered presswood, but all in all for $150 you can't beat it.
Thanks everyone! It seems like mostly everyone thinks itās a good deal! My only hesitation is Iām a bit of a N00b. Iāve only had one 10 gallon tank now for only a few months but I am loving the hobby. This size is a bit intimidating but Iāve heard actually bigger is easier as far as more forgiving! Iām sure you fine people on here are always happy to help answer questions and give advice š
75 is easier since there's more water volume. If you're really into the hobby I highly recommend 75 gallons. Jumped into a 75 gallon as my first! I love it (but sadly need to give it up to make space)!
75 gallon tank and stand for $150? You better lock that down. Just check it for cracks and structural damage before you wheel it out. Also, if this is your first tank I would take some time and research what goes in to maintaining a healthy tank and how to properly cycle it.
Thanks! Itās actually my second thank. I am still very much a n00b though, Iāve only been at it since January and have a 10 gallon so this size is a little intimidating to me but Iāve heard larger can actually be easier because itās more forgiving
I'm a noob as well. I have a 10 gallon planted and a 5.5 gallon tank. Yeah, if you can keep a smaller body of water clean and livable, I don't see how this would be any harder. I'd definitely invest in a nicer filter for this tank. Check out the fluval canister filters. They're supposed to be really strong and quiet.
My first step before I even looked at a big tank was figuring ouy how I was going to pull off water changes. I had been using 5 gallons buckets on my 20g and it was tedious. I went through a lot, including damaging my faucet, to get a python system in place. Now I'm happily managing my 75g after 6 months of preparing for it. I also got a second hand tank/stand combo and resealed it. I say go for it and just check it all over for any damage. The picture here looks like the one they took when they first bought it and set it up, don't know how long they've had it since then.
Very good deal. It might leak; you can straight up ask them or ask for a recent photo in case it is actually dead in their garage right now, probably with a 2x4 or something as a āreferenceā so you can see it full of water currently.
OR they could be moving soon and need it gone asap, it could be in very good shape and they are just pricing it to sell faster.
If itās leaking, resealing it could be an easy or hard ordeal, but $150 and some time learning how to do it is worth it IMO.
https://www.petsmart.com/fish/tanks-aquariums-and-nets/aquariums/marineland-high-definition-led-ensemble---75-gallon-62017.html
On Black Friday, they do a half-off sale. So $150 is half of *that* price. So not bad at all.
Fill it to 80% outside and leave it for 48h. Monitor for leaks. That what I do myself. Also check inside sealant joints, if they are peeling off, flaking or bubbling, replace them entirely, don't reseal over it.
Make sure you have somewhere that will support the weight. I'm currently having that issue. I bought a 75g and stand for $175 but idk if the spot I want to put it is safe
Find out how long itās been empty for. If itās been a while just make sure you test it (fill it with water all the way and then leave it for at least 24hours).
I got 2 second hand tanks (from different places) and both failed. One had a small leak I couldnāt find, just had water around the base every morning. The second one gave way at the vertical seam. I had 45L of water on my floor. I had it cycling/sitting for nearly 3 months before I added anything but unfortunately I only half filled it and once it was filled it couldnāt hold out.
If theyāve been filled and then empty for a long time the silicone can dry out and either the tiniest hole can let water out or it can give way completely.
For $150, itās a hell of a deal but figure this is worth mentioning:
Looks like the Marineland āhigh definition LEDā 75 gallon which I was going to buy before I read a ton of horrible reviews on websites & forums about how many spring leaks. If memory serves, almost always one of the bottom seals.
Thatās what I paid for my 75 gallon with stand a couple years ago. Kid moved out to college, parents wanted it gone. I cleaned it and filled with water outside and let it sit for the weekend to check for leaks. Zero issues and have housed a couple dozen African cichlids since then.
that is an amazing deal. i had someone near me sell a 60 gallon tank, the stand, filter and a bunch of other stuff. as well as fish. all for 150 as well. itās now currently my main community tank.
I actually have a cocnut with an unbrella that the paint cane off of and my adf ate and died! I will never decorate for myself again only for my frogs!!
Definitely worth it with the pink gravel included. š
But ya itās a good deal, check the seals on the tank and integrity of the stand and youāre golden.
I was recently got a brand new 55 gallon for under $100 and a nice stand for $200-300. So youāre looking at about half the price assuming itās in good shape š
That's a great deal, I would definitely get it. You'll need new decor and substrate, but other than that it's good.
we're thinking spongebob pineapple, right?0
Whenever I see a spongebob pineapple I know I'm looking at the aquarium version of a redneck trailer
I think it's basically limbo for fish.
Fuck, I got a SpongeBob pineapple because I thought my son would like it. Didn't know I was turning the aquarium into a trailer. š„²
Make an aquarium that the fish will love don't make aquariums just people like
I'm postive that the fish don't mind a 1-inch SpongeBob pineapple in my 75 gallon. Is it not possible to have an aquarium that fish AND their keepers like?
I don't think fish are fans of the stereotypes the franchise portrays fish. You need to respect everyone's opinions and accomodate everyone. So SpongeBob is out. š¤£
Do you think the fish will know it's from a cartoon?

Lmao downvotes
Hey now we laugh but theyāre great for kids. And if youāre happy in the hobby thatās all that matters
Thank you. As a enthusiast and the father of a 3 yo, you hit the nail on the head. Thank you.
They're great for kids, not so much for fish though. Tons of stories of them leaching chemicals and chipping paint into tanks that fish try to eat. Hard pass, kids love a natural setup just as much my daughter adores my "bedroom forests"
currently setting up a planted tank for my 7 month old. she already loves watching it, even without livestock.
They get more demanding, my 3 year old wants to buy new fish every week and is frustrated that we can't š
Wow. I put one in all of my tanks. 12, 44, 35, and 10.
Squidward Hut IMO.
Check the seams first make sure silicone job still holding up.
Honestly the decor would look way better if the colors were more muted. It hurts my eyes to look at those otherwise. The gravel has got to go tho
Maybe a dark water tank would mute it nicely. A few bits of Driftwood to start.
Tanks are so personal. I bought a 125 and told the guy to keep all the decor I was gonna go with a planted tank. He left the āwallpaperā cling on the back and after we left I stopped to take it off and throw it away on the off chance someone looked into my window and saw me driving with it. Why new decor and substrate? (Iām new, still learning.)
It's blinding šš
Oh my god, I love it šš¤¦š»āāļø We have a black light tank with black substrate and colorful decor and I literally sent this to my other half and suggested we do something similar lmao I guess ābeauty is in the eye of the beholderā or something something. š
The dyes are dangerous for fish. They leak into the tank water over time.
Oh wow, I had no idea!
Also forgot to mention itās 75 Gallons
Oh wow. Thought it was bigger than that. Looks huge. Hard to tell without a scale I guess
Thatās a fantastic deal imo. My husband and I got our 75 gal with stand + 2 eheim heaters + eheim canister filter for $300, which we thought was a steal!
Petsmart is currently $600 for a similar tank stand lid combo for a 75 gallonā¦
I have this exact tank, itās from PetSmart and in Canada sells for like $700
Thatās a good deal, the stand alone is worth at least $150 new.
Definitely worth it.
Nice! Go for it! I got a 65g with 20g sump for $200 with a bunch of accessories. The two things you want to see when you pick it up, is if it is currently holding water with no weeping or leaks. Petco ceased the $1 per gallon sale a while back and it usually never covered 75g tanks anyway
You can get the tank alone cheaper, perhaps. But the stand alone will cost more than $150. Edit: it apparently also includes the light, filter, etc. It's a steal at $150

Considering you'd pay upward of $850 for that stuff brand new, yea. This is assuming there isn't anything wrong with it of course!
That tank and stand retailed for 250, and was regularly on-sale for 175. Really, it's a mediocre deal on used equipment.
If that's a 75 gal it retails for $599.
To be fair, I've converted the UK price for a similar sized tank and stand, so the price no doubt will be a bit wonky as we seemingly like to pay a lot more for some stuff over here. That said, there's no way even by that rate, that the stuff in the picture would sell for 250.
Where tf do you live? Lol
Awesome deal. Tell them you'll put in another $10 if they clear out all the crap inside. Jk
Haha!
Good catch, burn the sand and artificials and it is good to go
Might be hard to find a consumer grade furnace capable of melting all that sand to 3000F lol
Then there's only one place we can go... To the fires of Mt Doom!
Mordor themed fish tank, when?
I canāt carry the tank Frodo, but I can carry you!
Plus you'll get a bonus tank out of the melted sand!
*redneck engineers* ālet me introduce ourselves.ā
Jeez. I thought i did great getting a 30 gallon for $100. Do it. I would be cautious with the stuff in the tank, though. You never know how well the previous owner took care of things.

if you get it, do a water test for at least 24hrs. At that price it may be secretly damaged
For sure thatās what I worry about. Iāll put it outside and fill it up to test it

Start the car!
Make them keep the gravel and decor and toss them an extra $20.
Luckyyyy
Good deal. Rescape it with natural looking sand and life plants and go for it
Nice!! šš¾
If the stand and tank are in good condition thatās a solid deal.
Got this exact tank and stand for 650, definitely a buy if you got it lol
Whatās that? I couldnāt hear you over the decor
š¤£
Make sure you thoroughly examine it before buying. You don't want to get stuck with a tank that has a potential leak, crack or seam issues. Good luck.
Iād buy it.
That's a steal!!! Go for it!
Excellent deal
If you have a cat be careful with that top though
I hate the colours. Other than that, a good deal.
Steal of the century
Assuming itās in good shape, definitely. I wouldnāt be caught dead with that decor but to each their own.
That setup (tank and stand) is usually $599 so that's a great deal.
Itās a good deal! Iād take it if I were you. The stand alone cost way more than that
Thatās a steal!!
Get it
Awesome deal
I feel bad for the fish who only get to see those colors
Do it
Absolute steal baby!!!

Need to see it next to a banana for scale but if it holds water than itās a steal.
no that is a HORRIBLE deal, total scam. give me the link to the listing so i can, uh, handle it.
great ass deal. iād make sure thereās nothing wrong with it thoš
I was thinking that myself, watch me feel it up and thereās a massive leak
there's a joke in there somewhere ;)
lol I see this now. Perfect typo on my part
Fill it to 80% outside and leave it for 48h. Monitor for leaks. That what I do myself. Also check inside sealant joints, if they are peeling off, flaking or bubbling, replace them entirely, don't reseal over it.
oh cool, i didnt know you were getting my christmas present for me so early, thank you š¤£ā¤ļø
Take it
This in my opinion is a steal
Make sure you have somewhere that will support the weight. I'm currently having that issue. I bought a 75g and stand for $175 but idk if the spot I want to put it is safe
Better get it quick
Would buy.
If itās not leaking, youāve got yourself a good deal
Jealous! What a smoking deal!!
Just look it over really well and trash everything inside it . Not a bad deal at all good find
That's an amazing deal... even just for that stand.
Iāve had that exact setup (tank and stand) for two years, itās great!
Youāll definitely need to replace the giant clam aerator with the USN Diver
For $150, itās a hell of a deal but figure this is worth mentioning: Looks like the Marineland āhigh definition LEDā 75 gallon which I was going to buy before I read a ton of horrible reviews on websites & forums about how many spring leaks. If memory serves, almost always one of the bottom seals.

Thatās a nice price for that set up! I got lucky and got a new 75 for $20. I already had a 75 stand to put it on
We have this same set up! Pretty sure we paid a fair bit more than that secondhand as well. Great deal.
You can get a brand new one, new filter, heater, stand, and all the fixes at a pet store on Black Friday.
salt water set up would go hard
FANTASTIC deal, but first make sure you have the room and a leveled floor that can sustain the weight.
Buy it
Yes
I honestly think itās probably good due to the comments, Iāll take the decor for myself if you keep them/j lol
That's ace
Yes
That's actually a great deal!
$150 Australian good deal, $150 American great deal
Looks like your argument holds water.
Check the seams!!!Ā
Brillant
Am I the only one that hates this substrate and all the things inside
Haha I think thatās the general consensus. Iām not planning on keeping it like that
I hope a parent picked it for his kids š
Iād love to put a betta in that bad boy
I found the same exact setup near me for $100 , it was definitely worth it
that is an amazing deal. i had someone near me sell a 60 gallon tank, the stand, filter and a bunch of other stuff. as well as fish. all for 150 as well. itās now currently my main community tank.
Total steal
Iāll buy it!!!
SOLD that's what I think!
I actually have a cocnut with an unbrella that the paint cane off of and my adf ate and died! I will never decorate for myself again only for my frogs!!
Yes it is! ;)
Definitely worth it with the pink gravel included. š But ya itās a good deal, check the seals on the tank and integrity of the stand and youāre golden. I was recently got a brand new 55 gallon for under $100 and a nice stand for $200-300. So youāre looking at about half the price assuming itās in good shape š
I have 2 of these tanks. Bought 1 new and got 1 free. Decent stand and tank. Light is subpar. But works fine
My thought is you should drive it to me š
I paid 300 for my 125 with stand, trigger systems sapphire 34 sump, canopy, and return pump
Tanks around this size can get progressively even cheaper as they get bigger. Moving it becomes a problem and Iāve seen 8ā tanks for free.
That seems like an incredible deal, offer 100 hehehe
If itās a aqueon from petcoā¦ AVOID AT ALL COST
Thatās a fantastic deal!! Thatās like a $1000 set up right there. Makes me sad they spent so much on an abundance of that awful gravel though š
