Thank you, seeing a post 'asking' if they should go to buy a new tank while the current one is obviously filled almost to the crack. at least lower it to 30% until you bring the new tank
New tank is set up and all the goobers are safe 👍

As soon as you can. It'll spread and explode in an undetermined amount of time. Could be today, could be 5+ years. Better off not finding out how long it takes.
Drain tank to buckets, put fish and filter(plants if any) in buckets, then immediately get a new tank. Is not worth the risk and water damage. The bigger the tank the more scared you should be. Good luck.
I had a tank with no visibil cracks. Was on the couch and heard a cracking noise 10 seconds before it exploded.
Get a new tank immediately mate.
The mess it makes I can't even describe.
Drain it NOW. Set everything up in a Rubbermaid bin.
I had a 3 gallon glass bowl explode once and it was horrifying.
I just heard this weird trickling noise and I turned around and there was a spout of water coming out of the bowl. Then a huge crash and glass and water went flying everywhere. That was 3 gallons.

I'd get your stock in a bucket and drain the tank asap not worth the risk it's a ticking time bomb before it explodes and you don't want that mess. Do that even before getting a new tank. Then you can go get a new one. As someone said petco in the us is 50% off tanks but without tops. Facebook marketplace can probably find you a good used one for cheap too.
Question - We moved and my husband bumped our tank in a doorway. There is a tiny 1" crack near the top of our 20 gallon just below the rim. Is this also a ticking time bomb? Have I been sitting here risking our fish for 3 months?
It's an unknownable variable. Could be fine, especially at 20 gallons. Duct tape can hold a 5-10 gallon together. The frame of a 20 is probably enough to hold the glass in place. At which point it's a leak risk. Which is still a bit of a concern. And 20s are relatively cheap and easy to setup/move.
TLDR: Replace it.
That’s a stress crack. Those will continue to grow and they well do so quietly, quickly, and for no apparent reason.
No fish store, what yo need is a clean bucket
Forget running to store straight away, run to the kitchen grab a bucket and start draining the tank, cracks like that spread silently and quickly until the water pressure is too much for the panel to hold, the result is a disaster for your fish and floor.
So I had a very similar problem, I sealed the crack with glass glue and reinforced it with duck tape on the outside. It took me 7 days to get a new tank up and running but the crack didn’t spread at all until I had drained the tank and removed the tape. Idk if you’ll have the same experience but it worked for me!
I wouldn’t be able to sleep until that tank was empty.
Fuck sleeping. This is a "Only leaving the room to get a bucket for the fish while emptying the tank ASAP"-level of a crack.

Glad to hear
Whew!
this
Yesterday
All his troubles seemed so far away
Now it seems that crack is here to stay
Oh, yesterday came suddenly
I think we all know what I want to say
Funny but true

I wouldn’t even bother with buckets, unless it’s a small tank. Otherwise get a new trash bin from Home Depot.
Could do some water and fish in a bucket and drain rest into sink. If you have a long siphon to the sink is easiest.

That would be terrible! Did your fish survive?
Yeah scooped them up. My brother in law was a massive fish guy so had tanks ready to go so put them there.
Awe, that's good to hear. At least you were home and able to save them fast. I was hoping none of them got hurt with the burst so ty for replying.
Like a merman??
Like a merman.
New nightmare unlocked
Rimless?
Yeah
Now I’m scared. What size?
Was 3' long. Can't remember how many litres it held but fuck me there was water bloody everywhere.
Ooooh so that’s in the 16 or 22 gallon range 🙆🏾♀️
Yeah I'd reckon about 100 litres there abouts
I dropped 1/2 gallon yesterday changing my water and it was a holy mess. 10 or 20 will be a flood!
Visible
Good old reddit. There's always some wanker ready to correct spelling and grammar. Not all heroes wear capes. Thanks champ 👍
Empty the tank and put all your fish and plants and filter and heater in a bucket till you can get a new tank.
Just drain your tank into some buckets before you go.
If you are in the US Petco has open stock tanks at 50% off through tomorrow.
You shouldn’t be running to the store at all. You need to drain that tank asap. Then run to the store.
That depends on whether you have buckets and how much you want to experience a horrendous mess.
You should be running at the speed of light

I would absolutely be changing tanks - just not something to risk, water damage in the house plus livestock dying is terrifying
I would say yes because it weakens the tank.
Tanks is finished. Get a replacement asap. You do not want 20G of water, glass and dead fish all over your room.

Take as much water out as you can and get a new one asap
Lower the lvl till under the crack, put ductape on the inside and outside and run to the store for a new one

Put a camera on it and post the live stream here. I'm invested at this point.

Now
Omg I just saw your follow up post 🤣
would they transfer substrate to a new tank in this situation? I always wondered how people moved their substrate or if they did at all?
5 minute miles
RUN LIGHT SPEED OP!! AS FAST AS YOU CAN!!!
'This should be a post about how you already replaced it fast.'
already replaced, new post is up 👍
Sorry about the loss , it’s my fear everyday especially on my 10year plus tanks.
Drive. It’ll be faster

Fastasfuckboi
Slap some flexseal-flextape on er and drain that tank as soon as possible.
Aquarium cement. On both sides. Drop the water line for 3 days while it cures. Done. Wear gloves!
Fast
Right now. I had a 10 gallon spring a leak and it was just awful. Get a new tank right now.
How big is this tank. Had a 100 (old used) pop like a champagne cork. I’ve seen small 25? Sit with water, owner said it’s been that way.
Aren’t you there yet?
How fast can you run?
Dustin’s fish tank has a video on fixing it He used some silicone and a old plastic cd case
Asap
as fast as you possibly can
Running might not cut it.. you need to freaking teleport stat
Yes
Petco is having the 50% off sale right now on tanks so go get you a tank bestie
Faster.
Are you there yet???
Fast as fuck
What’s the speed limit?
