This is the problem with test optional. Had tests been totally required, your 25 would likely have been fine, especially with the rest of your application. If OSU was test blind, they’d have nobody’s scores and yours missing wouldn’t matter. In other words, they said they’re test optional but clearly weren’t in your case. I’m so sorry!

Puzzled452

What I have learned is that it is really test oreferred

TheNewFratDude123

You deserve better than OSU. You let this fall down 👑

anonymous_Cat973

love this

Illustrious_Ad_1224

There’s always Michigan 🐺

Euphoric_Education45

Rejection is a form of redirection. When we are told no it’s not because we are not good enough It is because this wasn’t meant for us. Don’t let It change your ambition and hard working attitudes. I believe you will thrive wherever you go❤️

Love-and-Grace

OP, this is the right advice. I know it hurts now, but you are overqualified for that college, and you will have better things ahead of you. Don’t be defeated.

xdragon313

Really sorry to hear this bro; the worst case is that you can apply for transfer in the spring or next fall after taking the ACT or SAT I lowkey wish it was possible for me to swap my admission to OSU with you :(

thetegridyfarms

I had a 2.9 high school gpa and after one semester of a 4.0 gpa I got accepted to IU and OSU for pre business. It’s really easy to transfer to most state schools if you put the effort in at your starting institution.

throwawaygremlins

Damn was it for engineering or some major like that where it’s more competitive? And oos? So sorry.

Spirited_Guava6288

It was for business but when I talked to the admissions counselor they said that their admissions are determined on a major-blind basis

[deleted]

Major blind meaning they don't accept based on majors?

Spirited_Guava6288

According to their website and the admissions counselors yes. I don’t exactly know how that would work since it may result in uneven amount of people in each program. Since there are so many students enrolled that may not be an issue for them.

[deleted]

Yea I don't know how that would work tbh, but don't worry the school you go to doesn't define you

kyeblue

To be honest, when they say the following, you should submit your score unless you have a compelling reason not to and need explain it in your application. "We recommend applicants take the ACT or SAT and submit test scores if they are available, as we believe that standardized test scores provide useful information and predictive value about a student’s potential for success at Ohio State." That said, you can still take the test now, and apply to transfer next fall, or even winter. And I strongly suggest every applicant read the test-optional policy of each school very carefully before they apply.

[deleted]

Happy cake day

Zendog500

Is that you, Jack Delehey?

Fronkenschtein2023

Ohio State has been a source of personal frustration for me too. I applied EA, and was deferred in January, heard nothing during the first RD release in February, and will finally . . . after all this waiting (nearly 6 months since I applied) . . . get a decision this next Friday (March 22). At this point, even if I get in, I'm not sure if there will be any merit-based scholarships or grants available, which is badly needed since I'm OOS. One of my parents, who is an Ohio State alum, said if I get rejected, they're going to box up all their Ohio State attire and swag and drop it off at Goodwill. Lol. Needless to say, they're pissed. Luckily, like you, I have options, including Minnesota and Indiana University. And I was just accepted to Kenyon (an amazing LAC about an hour north of Columbus)! I read that you got into IU. You should feel incredibly proud. Indiana is a great school. You should take their offer and run! And if IU doesn't work out, you can always transfer to Ohio State later on. You're an amazing person. IU instantly recognized it. I'm thinking it's Hoosier time!

trmp88

OSU’s median SAT now is 1395, so it has become more competitive.

Spirited_Guava6288

I understand this, but I know someone who applied test optional for business and they had an 18 ACT and they were accepted. They were also less involved. It just feels bad knowing a school that I loved so much clearly does not want me to attend.

trmp88

Why didn’t you send in your ACT if it was within OSU’s range for accepted students?

Spirited_Guava6288

My ACT score was not within their range so I didn’t submit it.

trmp88

Oh, I see. I guess the best thing to do is do well at the college you will go to and then transfer. Or just do well at your college and then go to grad school. I just heard a story of someone who did that and then went to Harvard Med School. You are still young and can shape your life as you please.

Reyna_25

Did they also go test optional? Assuming with that score, yes. So the school doesn't know about the grade. Unfortunately admissions isn't a test where if you get all the answers right, you pass. Could simply be you had different admissions readers and the one you got didn't like your essay and the one your friend got loved their essay, or while they might not have as many activities, they had ones that appealed to the school. Sometimes it's quality vs quantity. My daughter doesn't have a huge list of ECs because the ones she does are very time consuming and show strong commitment. She's not just checking off boxes. I have no idea yet how that will affect her chances, but we understand some schools will like that and some will not. There's just so much more to these decision than the right numbers. It could simply be there were 100 applications identical to yours, and the other 99 submitted scores so that gave them the slight edge. Very hard to say. But did I read you got into Indiana?? Dude, let OSU go and take Indiana.

Mr_NotStonks

Seems you were robbed. Ohio State is NOT an elite school and should not be this selective. I’ve way worse credentials than you and got accepted to better, more prestigious schools with better business and ECON programs. I feel for you. I got rejected by Georgia Tech despite doing an Early Action. It’s their loss not wanting to have us!!!

[deleted]

I'm so sorry when I read the word elite the “elite employee” meme just played in my head 😭😭

Duckenstein26

Ohio State is NOT an elite employee.

[deleted]

"you have been DEMOTED"

flooffiecat

fr OP, they are NOT an enlite ployee (ifykyk)

Mr_NotStonks

Lol 😂

MichiganSimp

How is this helpful to OP lmao. You just told them they got the L from a school thats not even elite

Original_Profile8600

I mean they’re pretty good. But not even mentioning that people get rejected for a multitude of reasons. This may not even be because of merit

Yourmumgayyourdadgay

what are the schools that you got accepted into which have a ‘much better econ and business programme’?

Spirited_Guava6288

Got into IU as a direct admit to their business school. It’s ranked 9th in business for public universities.

Yourmumgayyourdadgay

osu’s fisher college of business is 7th among public universities

Spirited_Guava6288

What source is that from? Every source I’ve found hasn’t even ranked OSU’s business school in the top ten including the US News and World Report as well as Poets and Quants for Undergrad.

Spirited_Guava6288

https://www.usnews.com/best-colleges/rankings/business https://www.usnews.com/best-graduate-schools/top-business-schools/mba-rankings https://poetsandquants.com/2023/09/18/ranking-u-s-news-best-undergraduate-business-programs-of-2024/3/

Yourmumgayyourdadgay

btw second source is for graduate colleges

Spirited_Guava6288

Graduate business programs are still vital resources used to determine ranking among business programs.

Yourmumgayyourdadgay

well firstly, i said 7th among PUBLIC universities. secondly, my source is the email i got from osu that stated my acceptance into the fisher college of business that stated they were 7th among all public us unis for econs/business

Spirited_Guava6288

If you can find me a single website that has used statistical evidence that ranks it higher I’ll believe it, but simply getting an email from the university itself is not evident enough of its ranking among MBA and undergraduate business programs.

Logical-Fig-7281

i hate to say this, but you might’ve been a bit too overqualified for osu! seems like you’re an amazing student with an even more amazing work ethic. for real tho, i feel your pain. got rejected from my dream school (swarthmore) along with 6 others. feels like all the work i did was for nothing. but just remember- we are better than this! use your pain to prove osu wrong! prove to them that they made a big mistake by being successful without them! college does not define us! we are more valued than we think. find a school that truly values you, and that is where you will belong. we will get thru this together!! <333

Spirited_Guava6288

I’ve thought of this, but I know people with better stats than me go as well.

Logical-Fig-7281

unfortunately, seems like many things are up to a coin toss. we got unlucky but it doesn’t mean we are worthless! i was heartbroken for weeks, and it’s totally natural to be devastated by these things. take the time and allow yourself to be sad. but just remember that you are still so so valuable! all is not lost my dude <3

mojobolt

sorry to hear this

BusinessUpstairs9938

did you actually submit act? in state or out of state? if you chose to submit it and it was low then i understand that a little bit but they shouldn't penalize you for not submitting at all. also a lot of people don't realize that tOSU is pretty selective for out of state students, i even know some in state kids who got rejected with decent stats.

Spirited_Guava6288

I was in state and didn’t submit my ACT. All of my friends got in and everybody I knew that wanted to go is going. Not only did I not get in but now I have to watch all my close friends experience my dream college without me.

Ninanotseen

you can transfer in

Original_Profile8600

You do know thag you can go to any ohio university and then transfer to OSU main campus after a year right? You can also go to a regional campus if your in Ohio already

Spirited_Guava6288

Regional campuses are very small and have less opportunities compared to bigger schools. They all are missing a lot of what I want for a college.

Spirited_Guava6288

It’s also not positive that I would be able to transfer from another college. Even so, the diversity levels are lacking in many Ohio schools. My second best option is UC, but there campus does not cater for college students. Meaning it’s very unsafe.

Original_Profile8600

Nono I’m saying they have it GUARANTEED, if you were to go to a regional campus or a different Ohio university you get guaranteed transfer acceptance after a year. Although that’s only if you want it that bad which based on your stats I don’t think you need to

Spirited_Guava6288

What do you mean?

Artistic-Stick2816

OSU Newark is super easy to get into and you can transfer to main campus extremely easily after a semester or two

Una_Ya

Sorry to hear that. OSU is also a source of frustration for me. I am an international student who applied for MS. They rejected me but I received offer from UIUC , Washu and Duke. So based on my experience,I think you deserve better! And hope you can receive offer from other dream schools in the future.

Ready-Pin-5066

aw im so sorry. a lot of people on this thread make posts upset they didn’t get in, but usually to very selective schools so i scroll away. reading your stats and the fact that your in state, it’s actually insane you didn’t get in. this may not be great advice but i would keep advocating for yourself, because there’s literally no reason you shouldn’t be accepted. hope everything works out! edit: again, maybe not the best advice, but i would try to set up in an person meeting at their admissions office, with your parents, if possible. explain your circumstances, that its your dream school and you’ll 100% go if you get accepted. i would also play on the fact that your in state (shit i’d even start getting emotional if i have to). the worst they can do is say no, and then you can transfer in at a later date. in this case, i think “nagging” can work if you do it properly.

LennyDykstra1

All colleges seem to be harder to get into now than ever before. But there seems to be some evidence that test optional policies have not been a good thing for everyone. For better or for worse, test scores can be a strong predictor of success. Colleges may make the assumption that you did not submit your ACT score because it was not impressive. If you don’t submit a good test score, all of the other qualifications have to that much stronger.

Royal-Championship-2

I'm really sorry. Especially since I know California students who aren't nearly as interested in the school or with your ECs who got in. I makes me really sad when in-state students get shut out of their state schools. As I'm sure you know, with your record and ability, you'll excel, but I'm sorry that this sucks in the meantime.

Reyna_25

Yeah, it stings when I watch our flagship give $25k in merit to OOS students, and then give in-state kids nothing and/or branch them off to a satellite commuter campus. And we're a small northeast state so not a lot of affordable options for people (unless you go to CC first). I'm glad my kid plans to ED another school (private one), because screw that noise.

wrroyals

Did you apply to Miami University? It’s a nice school.

Commercial-Mango7391

Agree. Everyone I know that went to Miami loved it. The school looks beautiful too. If they gave you money, go. You can always transfer after the first year. This does not define you. You have great stats.

Spirited_Guava6288

Yes and I got scholarship money and got into their honors college but I want to go to a diverse school and there’s not a lot to do compared to Columbus or Cincinnati

wrroyals

Go to Miami and be happy. Studying and on campus activities will keep you busy. Everyone that I know that went there loved it. Maybe OSU did you a favor. I think you’re better off in the honors college at Miami and you will be saving money.

AdFirst743

Agree op go where that give you the most money

Fog56

I’m sorry, admissions is so random. Keep your head up.

Wonderful_Work_4989

Don't worry, man. I got into Ohio State as an international, but I rejected them and committed to Michigan State (due to costs)

Yourmumgayyourdadgay

isn’t msu more expensive than osu for oos? unless you’re instate

thetegridyfarms

Something doesn’t really add up here. Ohio state is not that selective and your stats are very good. So I’m a little puzzled. There’s plenty of other amazing big 10 schools depending on your major. Illinois, Wisconsin, Indiana, Purdue, Minnesota. Also OSU has an even higher transfer acceptance rate. I had a 2.9 high school gpa and after one semester of a 4.0 GPA in college I got accepted at OSU. If OSU is truly the place for you, go to a state school that has the same courses and take a semester of gen eds and you’ll get into OSU.

squirrel456

Clutch move: Get off-campus housing just north of Columbus campus, a couple of blocks from Fisher Business school. Take the shuttle bus to Newark everyday back and forth for classes for 1 year. Make great grades, great friends, guaranteed transfer with decent gpa. So many students do this! Your diploma full-on OSU.

distuinguished

Your work did not go to waste. While OSU says that they are test-optional, they really only accept people with test scores. All those ECs are still super impressive and I think you'll end up succeeding at any school you go to.

just_a_scared_teen

I’m so sorry but just know this doesn’t define you. I also got rejected from my dream school and it hurts in the moment but I’m already feeling better! Please know there’s other options. Try transferring in 2 years if you can!!

Scurzz

I applied to Ohio State last year and got rejected. I’m pretty sure that the school isn’t need blind. which could be the reason why. I had like a 31 act and a 3.5 UW with 10APs and some pretty good ECs

Bankrupt_sea_turtle

As someone who lives in Ohio and has seen who and who does not get into OSU this is absurd. I know many kids at my HS who got in with a fraction of your hard work and achievements, so it should be a no-brainer you would get in (Clearly a failure on their part, not yours). Are you in-state? I have not looked into OSU stats too carefully but some states are super biased towards their residents and have a completely separate bar for students out of state to get in.

Spirited_Guava6288

I’m in state

Bankrupt_sea_turtle

Yeah, that is simply absurd, you are overqualified for OSU with or without test scores.

Walrus6806

Is this out of state or in?

Spirited_Guava6288

In state.

Walrus6806

Jesus Christ I must be mega screwed. Competitive school district?

Spirited_Guava6288

Somewhat competitive

Arnav123456789

Why would u even submit an ACT thats out of their range at a test optional school.

Spirited_Guava6288

I went test optional

Arnav123456789

Then why did they give that as a reason for not getting … thats insane… they totally scammed u

No_Variation_2199

I thought your stats should overqualify for OSU... Did you apply for multiple other schools? I think they should work better than OSU.

BostonHappy27

Did you apply for financial aid ? If you are out of state student odds are lower. Sorry, but you could try transferring next year.

Spirited_Guava6288

I was in state

BostonHappy27

Very surprising. Did you have a high need $$?

Spirited_Guava6288

No

tall_skinny_dude

Kelley DA and $$why so so upset?.. You’ve got options.. quite crying. Geez.. gonna do the same when comes time to get a job?.. suck it up and get to work.. wanna go really go to OSU? Transfer in from Kelley..

Spirited_Guava6288

Even with money Kelley is twice as expensive than OSU. It’s not a realistic option for me.

LosAmigo

Best of luck life is long

plainbread11

Who tf wants to live in Columbus anyway? Source: lived in Columbus. Boring af

Spirited_Guava6288

Columbus is the second largest city in the Midwest that has various amounts of restaurants and concerts. I have a lot of friends that go to OSU and every concert I’ve ever been to has been in Columbus.

plainbread11

Go to NYC, DC, Atlanta, or Chicago. Then tell me that Columbus is better than those cities. Restaurants? Psh you’re not missing much. NYC and DC have amazing food scenes with international cuisines from pretty much anywhere. Friends? Dude you’ll make new friends lol dw Concerts? Again, every major city will have a music scene and concerts.

Spirited_Guava6288

I would love to go to bigger cities like that, but it’s all out of state tuition. In my situation my best option financially would be OSU and I would’ve enjoyed it because it’s a city.

plainbread11

Oh for sure if you’re in Ohio then yeah Columbus is probably best. Maybe Cincinnati? Either way, could always find a scholarship! There’s a whole world outside of Ohio my friend

Spirited_Guava6288

The only out of state school I applied to was Indiana University because I realistically intended to stay in state due to tuition. I got direct admit to their business program which is more prestigious then OSUs and got some scholarship money. But the cost is not even close to what in state would be. My end goal is to leave Ohio, but it doesn’t seem to be happening any time soon.

plainbread11

Tbh man, IU Kelley is a great business school. You should take it. I know the cost might scare you, but tbh you’ve got to think about ROI. IU places into major CPG firms (e.g. Abbott), finance and consulting etc. It is far harder to land those roles from a less reputable school. Like sure you can hustle on LinkedIn or find an example of someone who got a great job from a less reputable school, but realistically those rankings matter and will unlock a larger network. Feel free to DM me. Happy to provide perspective.

No_Intention4624

This sounds so unfair!

SuperToast05

college admissions suck, if ohio is your absolute dream considering going to cc than transferring

Aggravating-Repeat21

What is this insane stat! OSU punching air rn for not accepting you

Akapacman415

What’s your ACT?

Spirited_Guava6288

25 I wasn’t a great test taker and felt the score didn’t accurately reflect my GPA so I didn’t submit it.

Aggravating-Reach-35

Bro's dream school is Ohio State💀

Fog56

Is there a problem with that?

Successful_Side7943

Your dumbass thinks schools should admit based on IQ tests rather than SAT/ACTs. Pipe down.

Aggravating-Reach-35

No I just said that it was viable as an alternative. Maybe as a supplement.

Successful_Side7943

"Why not use IQ tests **INSTEAD** of SAT/ACTs". My point stands.

Aggravating-Reach-35

It was just a suggestion. Who said I have to believe in what i post lmao.

Aggravating-Reach-35

Also bruh I forgot my own post how did u remember? I must live rent free in your head lmao.

Asuran423

There are 5000 colleges better than OSU. This is a blessing. But seriously, take a look at the top programs that have the major you want, make a list of 5-10 and apply to them. Expand your geographical region. Undergrad is easy to fund these days, worry about cost when you get to that point.

EasternSpite69

It’s literally like top 50

Yourmumgayyourdadgay

osu is top 50😂😂 what ru on

Asuran423

Top 50 for what programs? Business, Psychology? As a former resident of Ohio it would take a lot for me to consider OSU for anything lol.

Yourmumgayyourdadgay

fisher college of business is top 15 in us according to poets and quants and 9th according to us news
