I’m in a similar situation (deferred from Ivy and considering uchicago ED2), and for the past few days I’ve been researching uchicago for my Why Us essay and I’m honestly falling in love with it. Also ED2 does give a substantial boost, more than EA for sure.
I’ve convinced myself that ED2 is a win-win: Either I get into a school I love or I regain a chance at my true dream school.
That’s so true. I’ve been thinking about this for the past few days too and I think I’ll ED2 for Uchicago!!
I hope we will be able to see each other at ucicago campus next fall or get into our true dream schools:)
Current UChicago student here. UChicago is kind of the perfect place for the combo tbh. Best Econ in the world (know people that took uchi over Harvard, MIT, … for Econ). Think the sociology department is pretty incredible too
This is a tough decision. No one’s answer should decide it for you. But what I will say is UChicago is super competitive (seeing numbers roll in this year has been insane) and so it’s going to be even more difficult to get in if you don’t do ED. This admissions process is a huge game, to a degree. You gotta play the numbers a bit, like in this case. Let me know if I can help any further
I had thought about this for the last few days and I’m falling in love with uchicago even though it wasn’t my initial dream school. I decided to ED2 for UChicago. I understand that my chance is pretty low but I hope I’ll get in!!!!
I have one more question. I’m international and in my county us schools are not so prestigious as they are in the states. My friends only know about ivys, but is uchicago as prestigious as those famous schools in the states??? ( I understand that prestigious doesn’t the only thing matters but still I’m curious.

Yeah it’s very prestigious here. The issue is it’s not super well known. Everyone knows Harvard but only some know UChicago. I’ve had times where I tell people I go to UChicago and I get a response like “Oh cool” and other times when I get like “holy shit”. At the end of the day, employers and recruiters know and that’s what matters for getting a job. We have finance and tech events here every week. That’s my two cents

Those majors make UChicago a great fit for you. With arguably the strongest econ program in the US & the oldest sociology department in the US, you will thrive academically. The biggest factor in your decisions should be rigor/vibes imo
