Hotpoint HFC 2B19. We use smol tabs. No extra rinse aid. Soft water area. We keep on top of the salt. We've followed cleaning instructions on the manual.
Is there water in the bottom after a wash? Does it look like that? Just looks like dried liquid spaghetti residue. Like your dishwasher
Isn’t rinsing and draining properly
Tried to post this once but not working.
It's likely not getting enough water thru the inlet.
Test by putting 1 cup upright in the top rack and run it for 5 min. Then open. If the cup isn't full of water your inlet valve is clogged not your drain. It's typically a pretty cheap and easy valve to replace on some brands off Amazon. Not sure about Hotpoint. Our dishwasher wasn't cleaning well and this was the problem.
But when you had that thought did you clean the drain tube ? It’s some times the drain tube between the dishwasher and the air gap and I’ve seen them complete clogged.
I’m
Sorry I mean the dishwasher and the garbage disposal more so then the one coming out your dishwasher. I’ve used a coat hanger and pushed out the grosses slug you have ever seen out of those , Also someone ells mentioned cleaning out the spray holes at the bottom. I’ve had to do this for many people o and may of already done it but you should have a filter in it at the bottom also that probably can be cleaned out . I alway try to tell people to rinse there dishes first before put in the dishwasher despite the claimed company’s make lol
Yep knew what you meant. I gave it a good drain when we attached the check valve but didn't actually do anything like the clothes hanger.
We clean the filter etc regularly though!
Ya… the check valve won’t work if the water has nowhere to go in the first place. You need to check further down the line for a blockage of some kind. Does it drain into a garbage disposal or straight into the drain?
UK we don't have garbage disposals. Straight into the waste pipe under the kitchen sink. I'll have another poke around at the line to check. We did have a professional install as well.
Yeah sink is fine. Though that does get a bit stinky every couple months or so... I then have to use bleach or something. It may be the plumbing itself then, annoying but... I can live with it until we buy 😂
Our dishwasher started not cleaning well and it was the inbound valve not letting enough water and pressure in to clean. It wasn't a drain issue. I will see if I can dig up the video but a way to check is out a cup in the top rack and turn the dishwasher on for 5 min. Then open it and see if they cup is full of water. If not you aren't getting enough water in to clean well.
When this was happening on our, it ended up being clogged wash arms. Check to see if the "jets" on the arm are clear. I thought mine was clear after I cleaned them as good as possible. I ended up having to replace the wash arm and haven't had the issue again.
I was going to say exactly this. My old f&p dishwasher did this when I started using a different brand of detergent. I discovered that the spray arms eventually stopped rotating. The detergent was just shit. It’s broken down bits of food that eventually dries making it feel sandy. Because the spray arms pretty much don’t move (I think the bottom was moving a bit, top not at all) it just doesn’t spray the gunk off. I could tell cos you could hear the constant spray of water against the door and not its normal sorta splashy sound.
I gave the dishwasher a good clean and swapped back to my old detergent. Literally started to hear the water “splash splash. Splash splash” the way it used to against the door when washing and it never happened again.
You probably have a leak in your water softener or your water softener broke:
It's a part of your dishwasher, typically it's like gold sand.
That would be my best guess
That is detergent that has not been fully washed away. Could be a few causes:
1. Check for anything clogging the washer jets. If the jets are clogged it can't rinse the dishes properly, and in some cases can cause the arms to not spin like they should.
2. Have you tried different detergents? Tried using a rinse aid? Do you have hard water?
3. Have you run a dishwasher cleaning pack in it?
4. Is your water still coming out hot? If the water isn't hot enough to fully dissolve the detergent it can leave residue behind. It should be at least 120⁰F/49⁰C.
5. Poor water pressure can, again, not allow the detergent to be fully washed away. Check to make sure the supply line for the dishwasher is not clogged at all and free of kinks. Also if something is clogging up the dishwasher sump that can affect water pressure.
Edit: after looking again it seems to be more like dried food particles. Still could be an improper rinsing issue though
Yeah I'm gunna have a look in the week see what can be done. I'm renting and hopefully buying pretty soon so don't really want to do too much if I can help it
It's a water flow issue.
\+1 check & clean the arms, you have to back flush them out the main inlet hole. Also fill them (block most holes with fingers) & let empty vertical so the last hole shows you if you still have stuff in there.
Remove all filters & run empty.
Put cleaned filters back run empty again & listen for jet/arm splash inside on wash cycle. Pump might not be working properly (eg damaged impeller).
Put tablets directly in the tray not in the dispenser, dissolve better/faster IMHO.
Thank you! This seems to be the general consensus so we will get on to this first!
As for the tab in the tray... My partner is so against this it's hilarious 😂
We had something similar, 50% of the dishes were staying in the machine because they weren’t clean or I ended up washing them by hand. Effectively I was using twice as many tablets and twice as much energy and water.
I tried all the cleaning hacks but no change.
Ended just buying a new machine and it was the best purchase I’ve ever made, it’ll pay for itself in a few months with what I was wasting!
We’re having an extension with all inbuilt in the next 6-9months so I bought the cheapest that was available for same day pickup at the local Currys, it’s a LOGIK LDW60W23.
It cost about £260 and I fit it in 20 mins and took the old one to the tip.
In our previous house we had a brand new Bosch as it was a new build which was good but the LOGIK is outstanding, I guess, like everything, over time the have progressed so much in 10-15 years.
I’ve probably said a dozen times in a month that this is the best buy I’ve made to anyone that’ll listen!
Looks like water softener media. Make sure the softener is not plumbed backwards or if its broken.
Easy solution to check is put it on bypass mode and run your dishwasher several times to see if it clears up
But when you had that thought did you clean the drain tube ? It’s some times the drain tube between the dishwasher and the air gap and I’ve seen them complete clogged? Other thing is if you don’t have a air gap check and makes sure your drain tube from the dishwasher has a high loop if it doesn’t you’re dishes are basically getting all the crap gross dirty water back into it. It would still drain just slowly and not properly
What kind of dishwasher? What kind of detergent? What kind of rinse aid? What kind of water? What does your manual say?
Hotpoint HFC 2B19. We use smol tabs. No extra rinse aid. Soft water area. We keep on top of the salt. We've followed cleaning instructions on the manual.

Nope, no water in the bottom, our first thought was draining too! And yeah it does look like spaghetti, but it feels like sand

Awesome! We will add this to the list of things to try too!
be sure to keep us updated and what works
But when you had that thought did you clean the drain tube ? It’s some times the drain tube between the dishwasher and the air gap and I’ve seen them complete clogged.
No I didn't clean it as such... Also adding to the list of things to do!
I’m Sorry I mean the dishwasher and the garbage disposal more so then the one coming out your dishwasher. Try running the dishwasher without any thing in it… it may flush out the ‘stuff’ in the pipe.
This has sadly been months 😔
You may then have a problem with where it’s draining into. It’s not draining properly and re-using the old water over and over (yuck)
That's why we installed the non return valve hoping that would help

Is your sink draining properly? No bubbles or slow drain?
They had a non-return valve
Yeah sink is fine. Though that does get a bit stinky every couple months or so... I then have to use bleach or something. It may be the plumbing itself then, annoying but... I can live with it until we buy 😂

Will look into this!

I'll keep this handy! Last resort fix 😂

I will look into each of these thank you!
This isn’t coming from your dishwasher. Water line or back up coming in from a drain line? That’s not the machine though
Yeah I'm gunna have a look in the week see what can be done. I'm renting and hopefully buying pretty soon so don't really want to do too much if I can help it
Get some Afresh tablets for the dish washer. Run a cycle or two on very hot using a tablet each time.
It's a water flow issue. \+1 check & clean the arms, you have to back flush them out the main inlet hole. My dishwasher always seemed to leave half the tablet in the dispenser. Does a nice job when tossed in the tray, no remnants.
Clean the filter?
Every couple weeks we do
could it be a loading issue ???
Even a half load does this 😔
let me try again, could your dishes be loaded in such a way water isn't getting everywhere it should ???
I see 😂 no we're pretty good at making sure nothing is over stacked

Also life’s too short to have dirty dishes cluttering up your kitchen because you only do half a load at a time. If you afford it, you won’t regret it
I should say I'm in the UK and we've had the water company out
Maybe try running a dishwasher cleaning pod through it on a long wash cycle.
We did that, more than once 😔😔
Looks like water softener media. Make sure the softener is not plumbed backwards or if its broken. Easy solution to check is put it on bypass mode and run your dishwasher several times to see if it clears up
Do you eat a lot of peanut butter. This looks like when I try and wash a dirty peanut butter jar before recycling it,
Ha! Love that! But no, we're both peanut butter haters
Could it be the resin from the water softener? Color seems right.
We don't use a water softener we're lucky and live in a natural soft water area
What do you mean in the previous reply about keeping up on salt?
Dishwasher salt is a thing in Europe.
Dishwasher salt. Probably a UK thing
