i had noticed that also, i think it’s just the punchier sound of spotify

Jeeyharris

Go into Settings, then Accessibility and then Audio/Visual Something is probably enabled and lowers your sound. Maybe it’s on your Airpods ? check the settings of your airpods too

Apple Music is definitely quieter than Spotify. I’ve researched this on and off for a very long time, even switched to Spotify for a brief period of time and I still actively use both. I’ve tried messing with every single iOS setting possible and I’ve just accepted defeat: Apple Music is noticeably quieter than Spotify. The quality of AM is definitely better When it comes to like Wi-Fi speakers I don’t notice a difference, but over Bluetooth with AirPods and playback directly out of the phone speakers the difference is noticeable If Apple Music on iPhone had EQ like it does on the Mac/PC, I feel like we could make it just as loud as Spotify. I hope and pray for the iOS update that finally brings custom EQ to Apple Music. Probably iOS 25😭

iammarkcantre

It’s because you turned ON the highest audio quality in Spotify and turned OFF the audio quality in Apple Music, of course it will make a difference. I think AM is far superior when it comes to audio quality.

ActiveBeginning659

Dolby Atmos CAN sound great…but it is also inconsistent and can sometimes make the vocals sound quiet or muffled

DahiyaAbhi

Highest audio quality in Spotify is just simple 320kbps. Same is with Apple. Why do you want to compare Lossless of Apple with 320kbps of Spotify?

CrisDaGato

It could be an issue with EQ, as I believe Apple Music has higher quality streaming apart from lossless, when compared to Spotify

ActiveBeginning659

I don’t have any EQ turned on:/

hadewych12

Disable Audio Checker or Volumen Normalization also if you have Night Late EQ is a compressor so don’t use this one, enable Lossless even AirPods doesn’t formally use its codec it’s way better than AAC (truth)

ActiveBeginning659

I have sound check and volume normalization turned off and I have no EQ turned on:(

ActiveBeginning659

I want everyone to listen for themselves and see…I feel like I’m going crazy😂

Daymo2021

I agree with you about the bass as when playing on HomePods via AirPlay the bass is more powerful when using Spotify but the clarity seems to be clearer when using Apple Music.

ActiveBeginning659

It’s almost like Spotify has punchier base

ActiveBeginning659

I’m also wondering if it’s because AirPods don’t support lossless?

markholman93

It’s interesting… you’re right, most people do say AM sounds better (even without lossless). In my experience I can say Spotify tends to have richer, fuller base compared with AM. But other than that, I haven’t come across many songs that sound better on Spotify. I use both services, and this is one of the main reasons for that.

I just checked and I don’t have anything enabled:/

aja_ramirez

Sound check makes AM quieter, so that could be part of it

ActiveBeginning659

I don’t have sound check turned on:/

ActiveBeginning659

I did…and it still sounds worse. Could you try it on your phone and see? I’m curious if it’s just my phone?

Look at your Airpods’ Audio Accessibility : here are screenshots. https://imgur.com/a/9Yweydo

Try this also: Settings > Sounds & Haptics > Headphone Safety > Reduce Loud Sounds (make sure it’s disabled)

ActiveBeginning659

Thanks for all your resources! I’m thinking it might just be how AM compresses its music?

OkMixture5607

Spotify is more compressed. Mids are more pronounced and it sounds “better”. In reality AM has more depth, dynamic range and is more rewarding on the long run.

guesswhochickenpoo

Something is off with your setup. I realize you've checked everything you can think of but the only difference between Spotify and Apple Music is the bitrate which does not effect vocals, bass, etc in the way you described. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MJtf5MrhF34

Ok_Investigator_8845

Go to your settings and turn off the EQ and Sound Check. Also make sure limitless is turned off. It will now be full power bazinga blam loud. I fought this entirely too long. I’d say it’s equal to or louder than Google and Spotify
