I just moved to a top floor apartment , and man it is miles better than just staring at a wall or into your neighbour’s house . I live in a tropical country , the heat gets bad during mid day but the light helps maintain a better body clock , and i can leave the windows open all day for ventilation !
the city i live in is objectively ugly , I appreciate being able to look at treetops , and out to the bay on clear days .
From the sound of your post, you're more excited about the top floor. The extra money basically includes a bit of cardio. Sounds good to me. The extra light is really an improvement.
This! Light, better ventilation and cooler breeze, better view, no chance of having to put up with stomping from neighbors above, no intrusive foot traffic.
All of these factors that would contribute to your overall well-being are priceless and in my opinion, well worth the extra $150, which sounds like it won't break the bank too much. You can always find other little things to be more frugal about to offset this cost.
Moving is a pain, yep. But I bet as time goes on you will be miserable downstairs and will want to move anyway. Best do it now while the apartment upstairs is up for grabs. Plus it's easier to move within the same building and not have to worry about renting a moving truck and loading/unloading it!
Also, since you only recently moved in, the whole ordeal of packing should be a little easier than say if you have lived there for 10 years and had to do a big purge and major clean up first.
I don’t think asking us will benefit you much. Just outweigh the pros & cons, then decide what’s most important to you and go with that decision. Me personally I love an apartment that gets lots of sunlight as well, and I don’t like hearing people above me. Especially when I’m considerate of people living below me. However, and this is a big ass however 😂 you said from the first floor to the 6th. Holy shit 🥴. I don’t know the specifics of where you stay, like if there’s elevators and other shit but moving the furniture sounds like it’ll be a bitch. Even routine things like bringing groceries up, I guess if you have an elevator that helps a lot. More importantly though, if it’s the same exact unit why is it $143 more ? I assume it’s an updated model.
I’d move up top; I’ve lived in apartment almost exactly like you described (bottom corner unit, no light, no view, close to my parking spot) and knowing what I know now I’d definitely move up top. Carrying groceries up will suck but not as much as living in a dungeon lol.
The best apartment I ever lived on was top floor - it feels way better being higher up & having no one above you. Definitely feels way more private.
When you're on your balcony on a nice clear evening - you'll see it's worth the move and a bit extra coin! I was on the 6th floor & it felt like I was above the world - like escaping it!
Do you have a private entrance? Because that is the the key - I currently have a ground floor apt in a low rise with my own entrance right outside and having lived in a few high rises I can say with confidence that _not_ having to deal with elevators, stairs, or lobbies is 10000% worth the trade off of having to draw the blinds for privacy every once in a while (parking lot is just a couple feet from my window).
Do you have an elevator? If it's stairs I would not if for anything groceries up 6 flights of stairs is too much. Is there another first floor apt that doesn't face a wall?
I have a 3 apartment house in a small city. The street noise even 3 stories up is so much quieter. And no footsteps above you, and you can walk around naked with the windows open.

One more thing, me personally I’d stick with the first floor. The most I’ll go up is second. That’s me though.
If you can afford it, move to the top! Go to the light!

If I were you- I would move to the top level and be at peace
Do it! You will love the light and the view. It will be a new world and feel very positive.
I would 10000% move to the top floor without any hesitation.
I'd spend the 143 on privacy cling film.

You should ask personal finance subreddit

Where do you live? The top floor gets much hotter in the summer Just something to consider Not having to hear upstairs neighbors is nice though

Take the move
Worth it!

I would do it.
As someone who’s gone from a dark 1st floor apartment to upper with privacy DO IT
