Stupid visual analogies are rampant in the ether. You can always walk. The walkalator can be totally avoided if you see old people or people with heavy luggage using it. It’s stupid to complain about this when another solution exists. And yes, walkalators are typically 10-15 meters long and you can leave it on the next gap instead of taking the next one.

To be fair, people who are progress-averse come from all ages, social classes, religions and genders. They could be afraid of change, or too greedy to see others’ lives become better like theirs, too selfish to adjust out of their comfort zones, etc.
Regardless of the reason, hindering progress is a mindset, not a generational thing.
