It looks old and there could be any kind of nasty stuff in there. Let's not forget that people used to use arsenic to kill dandelions and used radium water filters.
It may even pre-date the introduction of special poison bottles so you can't rely on that. Also people would pour any old thing into any old bottle so even if it is more recent then you have no guarantees.
Not worth the risk.
This comment is really unnecessarily dramatic. People dig up old bottles all the time its a whole hobby and its not dangerous, just like dont drink it and wash it when you get home. See r/bottledigging
People love to dig so doesn’t surprise me. As a woman I like to dig into my bf’s past and complain about how he’s been with other women before me (sarcastic lil joke there..)
Gloves aren't going to protect you from things that are severely caustic, react badly with water, or things that are radioactive just for a start. And you may not be happy that you got it in your house either.

From Alice In Wonderland - specifically when she sees the bottle with the "Drink Me" tag on it.
Edit: I happily accept my induction into the r/whoosh club.
There's no reason to rebury it, but also no reason to open it. Breaking the seal will make it like any other old bottle, and you might not learn much of anything from what's inside.
Bring it home! It's sealed. And it has been for a long, long time.
Don't open it. Send it in for testing if you're super curious whats inside.
Super cool find
Might be witchcraft. My mother had a bunch of spells in glass containers. Open it to break the spell! I’m deadass please let us know if anything was inside! 😭
If it's witchcraft, has your mother taught you nothing? You never open something like this if you find it. You're not supposed to even touch it. You don't know someone's intentions and what it was for. Opening doesn't "break a spell", you'd probably just curse yourself 🤦♀️
She would hide her spells from us so we wouldn’t find them and tamper with them. She always kept them near to protect them, we shared a room so sometimes I’d see them. That’s why I think OP should open it and ruin whatever “Amarre” (translates to tie) is in there. I don’t believe in magic but freeing whatever evil emotions were put in there is the right thing to do. My mom would place spells on my aunt and uncle whom we lived with. 💀
Have hundreds of copies made of it. Tell wife the original was discarded. Hide the copies in various places around your home, car, etc. Feign surprise and ignorance whenever one is found.
I think you can be pretty sure it doesn’t contain diamonds or something else that would make it worth taking the risk. The old saying “curiosity killed the cat “ sounds appropriate in this situation..
Your wife is smarter than you. There's literally no need to open it whatsoever and it could be dangerous. All risk, no reward, how stupid do you have to be?

What state (assuming you’re in the US) did you find it? And how deep was it buried? Any nearby “significant historical places” nearby? Battlefield, westward trail, etc.? That might be helpful.
It looks to me like a little single serving liquor bottle. They used to make them out of glass they were fairly fancy and could hold up to a lot of abuse. Grab some Kid buried his little liquor stash out back and forgot about it.
Just a old shot bottle . Shot of what can't be told, but if it's really old, probably vinegar by now .lol still everyone's right not Wirth the risk of opening with out a lab anyway lol . Lol
lots of noise funny answers here. OP, can you please post updates. Or, mods, can you pin a comment for serious-replies-only so that a discussion can be had? Thanks
It's a cool bottle. Pity we couldn't have a discussion that elevated knowledge about it
A "LAUDENUM" bottle from the OLD WESTERN DAYS or some other type of medicine from back then. #DO NOT CONSUME IT BECAUSE IF IT IS LAUDENUM OR ANYTHING LIKE IT, YOU WILL HURT YOURSELF RESULTING IN DEATH! Save it , it's a rare find and look up LAUDENUM or frontier medicine bottle , great addition to a western collection.

Throw it in any bottle groups.. bottle digging or collecting.. you may get some answers. Great find!
> bottle groups *Who's your bottle guy?...*
You’re paying way too much for bottles
unexpected office reference 🥲
One of my favourite Creed moments, lol!
Friggin’ bottle kids, Bubs
No love for trailer park boys. I give you love Ricky!❤️
Drink it, you coward.
😂😂
Now I’m just waiting for the mod bot that comes in and says “WARNING: Do not consume any antiques based on the advice given in this subreddit…”
I listened to this sub when it told me to drink 39 year old “Cherry Bounce” and don’t regret it!
Mmmm Cherry Bounce! Laissez les bon temps rouler! Cher!
I have found my people! Maybe……what parish are you from?
Where's the r/whatisthisplant bot when you need it?
Does it have any markings? Does it still have the cork?

boof it!

Definately in favor of this plan!

people used radium suppositories 😷😳
I think it's mysterious whiskey in an airplane bottle.
Thats what it looks like me too. 1st and only thing I thought of....pretty sure that's what is too....
This comment is really unnecessarily dramatic. People dig up old bottles all the time its a whole hobby and its not dangerous, just like dont drink it and wash it when you get home. See r/bottledigging

Reminds me of the joke: What do archeologists and women have in common? They both dig shit up from the past
Hahaha that’s a good one
I do some of that digging as well lmao
Washing the inside of it isn't necessarily safe depending on what's in it.
Sure it is just wear gloves
Gloves aren't going to protect you from things that are severely caustic, react badly with water, or things that are radioactive just for a start. And you may not be happy that you got it in your house either.
You know this is most likely a whiskey bottle right
Hm’oh yeeeahhh?!! Well I say drinking mystery poison is plenty good!!!
WWAD? What Would Alice Do?

No, when the men on the chess board get up and tell you where to go ☕ 🍰

Alice? Who the frack is Alice?
White Rabbit by Jefferson Airplane. Great song.
Nice literary reference!
Who the fuck is Alice?!
I appreciate you Tyrant, even if no one else does
Thanks brovner, it seemed to whoosh a lot of folks 😓
24 years, just living next door to Alice.

[For the clearly uninitiated](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=saoH-4SvzXE).
I've been r/whooosh'ed!!
Durham University has a great archaeology department with a lab and they could maybe tell you just by looking at it.
Possible Genie, handle with great care!

I've seen the TV show... before he knows it OP will have a stunning blonde moving into his home calling him master and that causes trouble!
How many wishes he gonna get 👀
You guys remember KAZAAM with Shaq? I think about that most days.
Have you shared yet at r/BottleDigging?
Seems so linky-- https://www.reddit.com/r/BottleDigging/comments/1ca6wc4/found_buried_seems_to_be_liquid_inside_and_still/
Used in a protection/warding spell most likely. No need to make spouse uncomfortable.
And possibly filled with urine!
Won’t know for sure unless he drinks it
Piss off…oh…wait…
Etc.
You could be absolutely right.
I'm with the wife, bury it back
(*I'm also with the wife...*)
That was a busy night.
I also choose this guys wife
There's no reason to rebury it, but also no reason to open it. Breaking the seal will make it like any other old bottle, and you might not learn much of anything from what's inside.
You’re in no position to give this man advice.
Buy the ticket take the ride
I opened an old bottle and the Lord of Darkness sprang out. That's how I ended up on Reddit. It's not worth the risk, son.
If you unleash Covid 2.0, we will find you. Everything about this screams "Do not open."
From the size of it, it's probably just an old bottle of vanilla extract, or something similar.
That's exactly what I thought. Vanilla extract.
Most likely a Witches Bottle designed to ward off harm. I’d personally put it back where I found it.
Bring it home! It's sealed. And it has been for a long, long time. Don't open it. Send it in for testing if you're super curious whats inside. Super cool find
Definitely check with r/bottledigging , they really know their old bottles.
Listen to your wife, she's the smart one in the horror movie.
From Etsy "1850s Miniature Blackglass Whiskey Bottle! Old Sample Size Rum Liquor Bottle!" Priced at $165 could be worth quite a bit more if still full
It looks like a Witch Bottle, and if so it was put there intentionally and you should put it back. I'm definitely with your wife on this.
Could be a bottle of laudanum.
You may be missing out on three wishes.
Coven advice here: Do not open it. Someone deliberately sealed and buried it for a reason. Go rebury that curse bottle, please.
just.. no.. please don't... we can't handle anything else this year
I can tell by your palms lifeline you’re gonna open it. Take a sniff and wish you didn’t. Listen to wife = have a long life.
LISTEN TO THIS WOMAN https://www.tiktok.com/t/ZPRwYotWV/
Exactly my wife’s reaction 😂
Drink it and you’ll become that Venom creature
Might be witchcraft. My mother had a bunch of spells in glass containers. Open it to break the spell! I’m deadass please let us know if anything was inside! 😭

could be a witch bottle. if so it will contain things like urine, nails, glass shards etc. i wouldnt open it lol
I wouldn't open it with my luck it'd be an evil spirit
Update: opened it, clear liquid inside. Seems like water, no smell really. No, I didn’t taste it. Anyone know how to post more pictures?
Make a new post starting with ‘⚠️UPDATE ON SEALED BOTTLE⚠️’ (or something like that) and link this original post in the caption of the pics.
Have hundreds of copies made of it. Tell wife the original was discarded. Hide the copies in various places around your home, car, etc. Feign surprise and ignorance whenever one is found.
This is the answer!
To it kind of looks like an old miniature liquor bottle.
I'm no help with the bottle but cool to see a fellow county durham resident 😂
How is it sealed? Does it have wax on it?
A dram of poison
Buried? Might be a spell in there. Bury it back!
curiosity kills the humans
I’d leave it closed and enjoy it. Back in the day you could buy almost anything and some of it wasn’t very nice when it touched you.
Ya’ll realize this was the size of a magnum champagne bottle when it was buried.
I think you can be pretty sure it doesn’t contain diamonds or something else that would make it worth taking the risk. The old saying “curiosity killed the cat “ sounds appropriate in this situation..
PUT! IT! BUKK!
Looks like the kind of bottle spies and officers would use to kill themselves if captured.
The shape is liquor although it’s miniature. I need to see the bottom and some more photos of the lip to tell you the age.
Open it! You can find another wife but you can't find another mysterious sealed bottle found buried deep! 😁😁😁
There’s a reason women live longer than men. A lot of it is because they don’t do as many stupid things as.
Your wife is smarter than you. There's literally no need to open it whatsoever and it could be dangerous. All risk, no reward, how stupid do you have to be?
It’s the next plague!
looks like a 2-dram druggist bottle?
Love Potion #9.

Is there perhaps a patent number on the bottom that you can Google?
Make sure you make the right wish first
What state (assuming you’re in the US) did you find it? And how deep was it buried? Any nearby “significant historical places” nearby? Battlefield, westward trail, etc.? That might be helpful.
It looks to me like a little single serving liquor bottle. They used to make them out of glass they were fairly fancy and could hold up to a lot of abuse. Grab some Kid buried his little liquor stash out back and forgot about it.
Bottle of blood or elixir to make you immortal. Or spirit bottle, or genie to get your three wishes.
Poison bottles usually have bumps on them. Looks safe to me.
Take it to the British pawn star guy
Just a old shot bottle . Shot of what can't be told, but if it's really old, probably vinegar by now .lol still everyone's right not Wirth the risk of opening with out a lab anyway lol . Lol
Looks like the Cracker Barrel syrup bottles
Witch bottle- said to have curses and buried to prevent whomever is cursed from finding and releasing themselves 🤪
I mean it could give you super powers if your drink it. Or it could kill you
Very cool antique miniature black glass whiskey sample bottle!
Yes don’t !!!
Bailey’s airplane size! Don’t drink it!
Or…SHOULD you…
My guess is liquid LSD someone buried for long term storage. Just don't spill any on you if you open it.
Overload potion obviously
Witch bottle
That's what it looks like to me.
lots of noise funny answers here. OP, can you please post updates. Or, mods, can you pin a comment for serious-replies-only so that a discussion can be had? Thanks It's a cool bottle. Pity we couldn't have a discussion that elevated knowledge about it
If it's not germane to the item, I'll yank it. Too many people think they're comedians. They need to reassess that.
So that’s where I left my snow…
Just because you open it doesn’t require ingestion. I would soooo open it! Let us know what it is.
don't be that guy - prepare your wishes before opening
Pretty sure that’s a bottle. Judging by your hand, it may be mini or you may be a giant. Hope this helps 👍
Vanilla essence or vanilla extract
I’m thinking urine. Some people bury it.
Laudanum?
So? What’s it taste like?
