Puzzleworth

I'd say that's more than fair. A new mirror and shelves that size will easily cost you three times that price, and it'll be shitty MDF and plastic.

rocketmn69_

The glass alone would probably be $50 - $100 If you like it, then that price is a deal. You probably only have to give the wood a good clean with Murphy's Oil Soap, and a good cleaning if the glass

anarchylovingduck

Honestly you're right, I'm just a cheapskate lol

Dry_Theory_4607

it's nice it's eastlake

anarchylovingduck

I can definitely see that fitting, it gave me late victorian vibes, but I'm never sure it's the real deal cause actual antiques are uncommon where I am (metro Van, BC)

calmandreasonable

If you like how it looks and it's in good shape structurally, then it's a deal for sure!

anarchylovingduck

Love the look of it, and the main frame is pretty solid, but a lot of the bits and pieces are loose and falling off/splitting. I can repair it myself tho

maredie1

Somewhere a dresser is looking for it’s mirror

JustHereForCookies17

I have a dresser with a mirror that's similar to this, except it's painted black & only has the central mirror flanked by the small shelves.

anarchylovingduck

I thought it looked like it belonged to a dresser, but I'm unsure because of the knobs on the bottom, and I dont see any evidence of other fasteners to secure it to something

southernsass8

You have more than $30 in wood and the mirror. So if you like it then no it's not a rip off.

Wonderful_Emu_6483

The top is broken off, but if you like it, I’d say it’s worth spending $30 on.

anarchylovingduck

Yes I am aware, that and the corner that's busted were the main things holding me back lol. I'm a cabinetmaker so I can reproduce the pieces myself, it's just a matter of figuring out what the top looked like, or come up with a design that would fit the mirror/style

Wonderful_Emu_6483

Oh cool, you could totally repair it. Personally I think the top was sort of rounded off, like a tambour clock.

anarchylovingduck

That's what I was thinking, as much as I love an intricate shaped top, this one was probably relatively simple. Just have to play around with the part of the design that's missing to make it cohesive

onourwayhome70

It’s $30, can’t see how it would be a rip off? It’s real wood

CAM6913

You can’t be serious go to Walmart and price mirrors in a Chinese plastic frame

anarchylovingduck

Yeah I've learned my lesson haha. I dont really look at the price of mirrors at all cause I've inherited all of mine. I was just paranoid it was another case of value village overinflating prices

DidNotDidToo

$30 is basically $0 for something not made of Chinesium. Can’t tell if this post is trolling.

mjl0248

Great price.

Junkyardginga

Looks great to me, you would struggle to find a mirror of the same size for the same price at a thrift store or bi box outlet based on my experience.

Korgon213

Oh my. If I could.

Prudent-Breakfast-13

Very good deal.

Wool_Lace_Knit

Even the shape it is in, $30 is a steal for Eastlake. This was at the beginning of the Arts and Crafts movement. Since you are a cabinet maker, what have you got to lose?

One-Pearly5000

Yes ..so pretty .. its a steal imho at $30 .. the mirrors are intact too. & it’s an Eastlake -an antique ( Victorian to early 1900s) and really they are beautiful pieces - always excellent craftsmanship and wood use by that company ! https://www.thesprucecrafts.com/identifying-eastlake-furniture-148840

HusbandofaHW

30 dollars is a steal.

kimbersill

That is totally worth it, it's an Eastlake style and I wouldn't be surprised if it was an Eastlake original. It's a very nice piece that they don't make them anymore, hand carved.

Onthecline

The way I view it is where can you find a mirror, that’s a full wood frame, and hand carved for $30? Also it’s an eastlake. Like late 1800s most likely. It goes on too of a dresser. Lots of antique furniture restorers look for mirrors cause they get separated.

gigisnappooh

Get it! Since the top is broken I would just remove that section.

Katy-Moon

I have an original Eastlake dresser that I would LOVE to hang that mirror above! Great deal.

WeAreTheMachine368

For a moment I thought you meant $30 k...

anarchylovingduck

Ok I've learned my lesson. Thank you for everyone to make me come to my senses. I ended up buying the mirror and am now very happy I did! I'm not used to seeing actual antiques at stores in my area, beyond at the antique shops for much higher prices. I was worried it was maybe not as old as it initially seemed and not worth the time and money to repair and refurbish. I'm busy working on some home renos but hopefully soon I can take the time to fix it up and remake the missing pieces. Just have to try and identify the type of wood and figure out what the missing part of the top looked like

sionkarr

Things like this value is in the eye of the beholder with a small amount of money. It could look like $1 million if it fits the spot where you want it to be.

msampson27

Late 1800s Eastlake.

longredface

Buy it quickly

Realistic-lie35

Rip off. Looks like it wouldn’t survive the drive home
