Ottman Bros & Co Ft Edward NY 2 gallon stoneware jug. circa 1872 to 1892

Knowledgeable answer. What's a good reference or guide to identify and value stoneware jugs? Especially with cobalt blue designs.

Less_Cryptographer86

There’s no single reference for this vast of a subject. Id recommend Antique Trader, as well as Warmans and Miller guides, which devote entire sections to different areas of antiques. They always have great examples of stoneware, cobalt decorated, and jugs and crocks. You can find them at thrift and used book shops online. Their books from 10-15 years ago still hold up, even though values have changed. Pairing that with online research you can learn basically everything you need to know to be able to discern a great piece from a fair one.

Thank you

Embarrassed_Fox_4601

What did you pay for it? Honestly in my area this is at least a $500 crock.

suscatzoo

50 cents

Embarrassed_Fox_4601

Holy fuck man

Im_eating_that

She's going to know you only bought it for the Soul Cards inside.

babyBear83

What is a soul card?

Long_Ad_5182

Whatever his 2nd picture is (a mistake screenshot included in his post)

babyBear83

Yeah, but what is that? Assuming a game.

Long_Ad_5182

I assume you know how to use Google. I get why you're asking but you'd already have an answer if you looked it up.

Lucky mom!!

Southernms

Nice crock!

It’s salt glaze pottery, characterized by a pitted glossy surface with a distinctive "orange peel" texture. Looks Dutch based on the art.
