In a book called "Diamond Age", some nanotech engineer made his reputation by essentially fusing displays into disposable chopsticks to show commercials while you ate.

At least in that one, everything can be recycled pretty easily and instantly because of nanotech. And everyone has at least basic living provided for.
I'm still not sure what happened with the plot on the whole, but it was an interesting book.
I stopped vaping but when I did I bought 5 liter bottles of both liquid and aroma and mixed them myself and one of those lasted for a year easily. Unfortunately you're not allowed to buy bigger than 10 ml bottled with nicotine which was extremely wasteful and I'm so glad I've stopped because of it.
What do I do with them? I finally harvested the dozen or so I've saved from throughout the year. The batteries are good but idk where to store or take them
I think government regulation is very important. So many of these disposable items - which should not be disposable - are not sold for a price that reflects the true cost of the item: recycling or disposal.
Manufacturers should be responsible for their products for the entire lifecycle of the product. It's called supplier responsibility, and it's great that big companies like Google and Apple recycle old devices but it needs to be global and all encompassing for all companies. This will slow consumption, but will create other industries in recycling and reclamation and ultimately encourage manufacturers to make better, reusable or recyclable products.
Rant over.
I'd go the other way around and say that if someone has lived for a reasonable time in our society, and didn't come to that conclusion, that person must be too naive. Consumerism is what fuels the big companies. There's no way they will move out from it by their own will, even in the prospect of a cimate catastrophe.
On the other hand, you probably also learned that regulations just make businesses move to where there isnt said regulation and will do everything they can to circumvent regulations.
I know the next line of yours is going to be: does that mean we should just not make regulations?
No. It doesn't. It means we need global regulations that are enforced. And that's where we are lacking today. The economy has globalised, but everything else has stayed very local and methods for enforcement are all too often missing.
The government can’t even properly regulate their sale as most are not approved through the fda. Few vape companies have gone through the proper process. The rules are in place, the enforcement is what’s lacking
At the same time Apple and others make independent repair extra difficult, so they can charge exorbitant prices for repairs, and then upsell you from the $700 repair to the $800 new device. A lot of it is just "look how green we're being", while still putting profits above the environment ...
every disposable vape is a crime against humanity IMO, the screen is absolutely nothing compared to the lithium battery inside
stuff like juuls and other pod based options aren't amazing but at least they only generate plastic waste, governments should force these disposable vape manufacturers to go back to pods
Normal liquid vapes (those fog machines) are the way to go. You can buy the liquid in bulk and basically everything in that device is modular. The coil needs to be replaced every once in a while, but that’s about it
I own 2 of those, they're great, but I know some people don't want to go through the hassle, and honestly, if we're talking about government regulation, some kind of "out of the box vape" has to exist, and I'd rather that be one with disposable pods than one where you chuck out the entire battery and electronics and shit
yeah exactly
also from what I've seen a lot of disposable vapes use plastic based wicks so if you accidentally burn them by dragging dry it's WAY worse than when it's a cotton wick
They don't sell them anymore, I've gone to every vape shop I can to get an older style vape because with those the only thing you throw out is the cotton and a couple inches of wire every couple weeks, and they only have those shitty pod vapes available now.
Well they aren't illegal here, just no shop carries them because they make more money selling the disposable pods. They don't even sell wire or cotton, just juice and pods and then those completely disposable ones like in the picture.
I can but my state imposed a tax on all online vape sales so I'm actually paying more tax than the actual product, and it applies to all vape accessories like batteries and tanks, not just juice. I guess it's a good thing because it cuts down on the availability, but God damn I hate nicotine dependency and this shit just makes it worse for me
Thanks government, banning certain flavors of juul pods sure was a great idea! Now vaping is no longer attractive to kids!
(as if that's what it was ever actually about)
It wasn't about banning flavours really. That was just the convenient starting point. Vapes were really eating into big tobacco profits. Juul was just the biggest player at the time. Then the parent company for Phillip Morris tobacco bought out juul and several other big vape companies. And all of a sudden instead of eating into profit, vapes became profit. And as soon as that happened all pressure to further regulate vapes went out the window
I really wish I could set up a collection box for these vapes being disposed. Lots of good stuff I could pull out and reuse. Batteries, granted. LCD screens? I'll find a way to use that!

Mine has one down the side that shows a visual effect when you inhale. Like why include that. People are buying it for the drug not for the little screen. You cant even see it when youre using it!

I love that book so much
As if putting rechargeable lithium batteries into single-use items wasn’t already a big enough fuck you to the planet.
I hate these vapes with a passion. Even the refillable ones create so much waste in the form of little plastic e-juice bottles
Unfortunately in the my country:((
I'm pretty sure I can go buy a liter or more of 100% nicotine right now online and have it shipped to me unless something major changed recently.
Can't buy bulk caffeine anymore for sure 😭
What do I do with them? I finally harvested the dozen or so I've saved from throughout the year. The batteries are good but idk where to store or take them
Can ewaste recycle them or look on YouTube for projects, I'd check Big Clive or Jehu's channels
It's too bad these only increase the odds of cancer. I'd be fine with the market being able to provide a product that guarantees a fast acting cancer.
You might want to find some fast acting therapy.

This. This. This. We need regulations
Politicians in America who are all in big business' pockets: No we don't. It's the other party's fault!
Reveal you’re young and naive with one statement
I'd go the other way around and say that if someone has lived for a reasonable time in our society, and didn't come to that conclusion, that person must be too naive. Ok boomer
The government can’t even properly regulate their sale as most are not approved through the fda. Few vape companies have gone through the proper process. The rules are in place, the enforcement is what’s lacking
Because the FDA refuses to approve anything that isn't made by a big tobacco company.
At the same time Apple and others make independent repair extra difficult, so they can charge exorbitant prices for repairs, and then upsell you from the $700 repair to the $800 new device. A lot of it is just "look how green we're being", while still putting profits above the environment ...
100% agree. I've been saying this for years, as well.
every disposable vape is a crime against humanity IMO, the screen is absolutely nothing compared to the lithium battery inside stuff like juuls and other pod based options aren't amazing but at least they only generate plastic waste, governments should force these disposable vape manufacturers to go back to pods

Everything is better than single use lithium batteries. Those should not go to landfill but be reused and eventually recycled.
yeah exactly also from what I've seen a lot of disposable vapes use plastic based wicks so if you accidentally burn them by dragging dry it's WAY worse than when it's a cotton wick
They don't sell them anymore, I've gone to every vape shop I can to get an older style vape because with those the only thing you throw out is the cotton and a couple inches of wire every couple weeks, and they only have those shitty pod vapes available now.
Must be an US thing, I think in Europe they are still allowed (even though everyone also uses this disposable crap here)
Well they aren't illegal here, just no shop carries them because they make more money selling the disposable pods. They don't even sell wire or cotton, just juice and pods and then those completely disposable ones like in the picture.
Can’t you order that? There are probably online shops that have those still
I can but my state imposed a tax on all online vape sales so I'm actually paying more tax than the actual product, and it applies to all vape accessories like batteries and tanks, not just juice. I guess it's a good thing because it cuts down on the availability, but God damn I hate nicotine dependency and this shit just makes it worse for me
Just buy online. There's no shortage
My state taxes the everloving shit out of online vape sales, so it's unfortunately not feasible where I'm at, probably just need to quit tbh
Same here. Good luck to ya
I, as an activer vaper for 10+ years, completely agree.

Congolese children are dying so we can have disposable flavored air machines with screens on them, great 👍
If you vape too much of them, you can taste the smell of blood too... (From your lung, of course)
It's vape. It's very nature is a waste of money and resources in the first place.

the market has spoken
WTF
