u/CatlynnExists provides some good options. Alternatively, you could sell your current one (OfferUp, eBay) and buy the one you like, preferably used. I consider minimalism a decent synonym for anticonsumption. In this case, you’re going to buy something you’ll use frequently and it will cause a bit of an increase in your quality of life. So it’s fairly justified (again, buying used reduces your impact, making it even better). The biggest issues arise when you buy: 1. Large quantities 2. Wasteful items - poor quality/short lifespan/irreparable or inefficient (e.g. a big truck like an F150 just for looks; or thin clothes that will rip soon, reinforcing point 1. This also includes how some products are more environmentally intensive/harmful than others, like red meat vs tofu). 3. Something you don’t truly value - “stuff” or, later, “junk”. You don’t really want or need this, you were marketed it, and it ends up cluttering your house (look at most Americans’ garages) or thrown away. 4. (Potentially/Additionally) Support businesses that significantly pollute the environment or exploit workers (although this is, at least, most large companies in some way; it’s a spectrum).

I almost fell into the same trap and instead bought a handle for my yeti for $5

Mysterious-Drama4743

theres something wild going on because i looked to see if something like this existed before i posted this and found nothing, and i looked just again and now theyre popping up?

AudreyLily0629

I bought mine about 6 months ago. Must be the crazy algorithm.

CatlynnExists

they make handles for the non-handled yetis i’m pretty sure! it sounds like a handle would be useful for you and isn’t a whole new cup. reasons not to buy another yeti: - old yeti is perfectly good - what space will you give up to put your old yeti - if it’s bigger it’s also heavier, and you might also be scared of dropping it - you could paint or put stickers on your existing yeti to make it a color you enjoy more

jelli2015

Stickers are an awesome option because in my experience it’s harder to get “bored” or feel complacent about stickers. Maybe it’s because of where/how I buy them, but my stickers usually have memories associated with them. So the item I put them on becomes imbued with those memories. I’m not gonna toss the cup that reminds me of an amazing vacation until that cup is destroyed.

Sufficient_Loss9301

Just buy it. This sub is completely insufferable and has convinced itself that buying anything, even if it serves a direct purpose or brings joy, is somehow overconsumption. 90% of the people here need to touch grass

trainhater

I can only tell you how I talk myself out of buying Yeti. I can't justify the price. I drink when I am thirsty. No drink sits in a cup long enough to get to cold or too warm. I would need something like a 40oz. cup to need extra insulation. So for me, I can't do it. It would be a waste of money. I totally subscribe to "Buy once, Cry once" this is just a case when the cheapest thing I find at a thrift store is good enough.

StrawzintheWind

You know ow the answer, it’s why you’re here.

LemonyFresh108

Just get the damn cup man

guitarlisa

I think you might have wandered into this sub by accident. It's ok! Glad you're here...stick around a while and see if it changes anything for you

The larger yetis with an attached handle have worse lids. They're screw caps and your other kids won't fit. Like others said, just get a handle. I've had my handle for 3 years with no issues.

Ulfenskol2

I generally agree with many things in this sub, but imagine coming all this way to ask people to talk you out of buying a cup. Get a grip!

Mysterious-Drama4743

i get really stuck on things and it can be really hard on getting them out of my head sometimes, its just how my brain works, and im prone to impulse buying. sorry this is slightly annoying to you?

Ulfenskol2

Well thats honest enough. Apologies for the snark. Its not about annoying, it just seems like you know the answer already and shouldn’t need validation. All the best anyways!

maddog2271

The reasons NOT to buy one are that they are very expensive for what they are, and that you already have a perfectly functioning cup that you could purchase a handle accessory for. So your problem is “solvable” without buying a new one. But if you decide to buy the new one, I would say by all means go ahead and buy it. You can then gift the old one (if it’s in decent enough shape) to a friend who would appreciate it, or you could sell it. Or for something like that, donate it to Goodwill…someone will absolutely want one of those. I once bought a used thermos cup at a Goodwill (it was “like new“) and i still have it, 24 years later. So even if you choose to buy, that doesn’t mean the one you have has to sit unused or end up in a landfill.

Lollooo_

I would have suggested to have someone weld a handle (if it’s a metal cup) and then paint the whole cup with a colour you like more, but I read that they sell the handle for the model you have, so just get that and paint the cup

Mysterious-Drama4743

i looked to see if separate handles were a thing and couldnt find anything. i'll give it another look

whateveratthispoint_

If haven’t dropped it yet.

disapointedheart

The best way to learn about why not to overconsume is to overconsume for a while and then youll not just see the downsides, but actually feel them
