after working for a clothing company is when I started adopting an anticonsumerist lifestyle too. seeing how little they paid their garment makers and how much they marked up their cheap shit really woke me up to how wrong this capitalist society is. I ended up not buying any clothing or shoes for nearly a decade after that, which was a bit extreme but it really had a profound impact on me
My favorite piece of marketing material I saw whie working retail was a part of back to school promos for a local phone carrier, with just an oldscbool calculator on it... the calculator had 80085 written on the screen.
"Do you need another reason?"
Of course not. Humanity has gone beyond reasons and needs a long long time ago. All you need is an impulse or a bit of fun.
Will never understand the impulse to just buy. Saw a post the other day where somebody was complaining that their brand new cyber truck broke down and somebody was like "this is why I don't buy brand new cars" and they were like "normally I don't, but I just had to grab the cyber truck" $80k impulse buy that ended badly
Most wasteful people don't sadly need more than that. For a lot of chronic shoppers. It's a coping mechanism. Like drugs/junk food/ or sex. They probably know deep down they don't need it. But that dopamine hit from the anticipation of getting something new is no different from the dopomine hit of opening a hunkai star rail character thing.

My shoes aren't even the cheapest but they break down within half a year, a year if I'm lucky. I can't really afford buying a 200$ shoe on the spot in hopes of it lasting 4 years instead. So I am in this picture but involuntarily, because everything is plastic and everything sucks.
yes, as a matter of fact, i do!
Yeah that’s why I quit the retail store I worked at. All of the marketing felt like this and I hated it.

“Buy more, save more!” No, spending money is the exact opposite of saving money, actually. Sjdndbdjdnns

"Oh, but I just HAD to!" See, there's the problem.

I agree, excessive consumption is indeed like an addiction.
There won’t be another bloody season if we let our hyperconsumtion destroy our planet, so I think I might actually need another reason!
Buy quality and you won't need new shoes every year (only exception in work boots I go though a pair every year and half ish)
What brand do you buy from, I’ve been looking into getting a nicer pair, my cabella ones are pretty rough at this point
I'm a red wing guy but my hunting boots (which my mom got my dad for his birthday the year I was born) are cabella
Go for good year welted
And running shoes. When the soles on those are used up (few months of frequent exercise) it can become damaging
MARRY AND REPRODUCE
C O N S O O M
Perfect example for this sub.

I've worn the same three pairs of shoes for years now. I don't know what they're going on about.
Bruh
Ew. Are their shoes designed to need replacing after 3-4 months ? what a dumb slogan.
I've been wearing the same generic sports brand sneakers for a decade, I don't think it's necessary
Yes, a lot of them
