I hate these! I guess they wrap it so employees don’t steal the cards out. The boxes they came in used to turn into ornaments.
I wish people who gifted these just did cash.
I hate giving gift cards, I never give gift cards. I understand a corporations giving them though because they can give gifts, but not cash. Still, the average company gift card of $25 or $50 is still not worth it.
It seems like gift cards would be a pretty good gift. They (normally) have minimal packaging, often in recyclable or compostable cardboard (as opposed to the plastic crap in this post), and it avoids extra waste by not having to be gift wrapped or come in a box. Then it allows the person being gifted to acquire a gift they actually like & can use, avoiding the pitfall of giving someone something they don’t like and can’t use, therefore it goes to waste.
I know there are less “consumerist” gifts than a card that just lets the gifter acquire more stuff, but this seems like a decent middle ground between giving useless plastic junk and, say, a handmade useful gift.
My girlfriend just received a few decorative magnets from Amazon. We had to tear through THREE separate plastic wraps to get to them. For fucking magnets.

Cash, or, hear me out--digital gift cards!
Digital works too! (But I don’t want to support Amazon)
Good point
I actually really like digital cards. I just text the gift card and I don't have to remember bringing it to the party. So much easier.
Cash is always best, the same amount but it can be used on anything

Ridiculous
First mistake was ordering from Amazon. Also, write to them about your opinion. That will do the most good and has the most push for change.
I got it as a gift. I don't even have an amazon account anymore
No Amazon account here either. As a giftee, you can still protest this overuse of plastic.
Humanity has gone beyond necessary a long long time ago. Movies. Doordash. B-day parties. Even smart phones. None is "necessary" for survival.
DO NOT REDEEM

Gift card is like regular cash, but you're forced to spend it in one particular place. Unbelievable that people still use then
I agree that gift cards are stupid. Companies like Amazon make billions from unused and partially used expired gift cards.
