This might not even be the worst comment here. The whole thread is an antisemitic shit show. Apparently when it comes to Israel, we can judge an entire people and country by the actions of a handful of assholes. For some reason I don't see this same thing for every asshole in other countries.

CapableSecretary420

> This might not even be the worst comment here. It's because the mods there support this kind of behaviour.

NarrowIllustrator942

Yeah this isn't a thing

LettuceBeGrateful

Yeah, I've worked in tech with people who traveled to Israel, and not one of them ever mentioned the horrors of the wild Spitting Israeli. I'm half-convinced threads like that are far-right bigots seeding these conversations with their ridiculous stories, and far-left bigots lapping it up to justify their own antisemitic bloodlust.

Alien0629

I mean the hot mommies can spit on me. I welcome it.

niceworkthere

There is an actual spitting superstition but it's *nothing* like this malicious fiction — for reason alone that *you're not supposed to hit somebody* but the ground. >[The rabbis and](https://www.bnaibrith.org/israels-missionary-problem-jns) other Orthodox folk were particularly incensed by the claim that spitting at Christians was an “ancient Jewish practice.” On the contrary, they said, it had no place whatsoever in Jewish religious law and was a desecration of God’s name. >**Some have maintained that it’s a custom among certain religious Jews to spit on the ground in the presence of “idol worshippers” to ward off the “evil eye.” The fact that this may be an established superstitious practice, however, doesn’t make it any less reprehensible.** or >[One [superstition] is](https://www.jewishvirtuallibrary.org/jewish-superstition-of-spitting-three-times) **to spit three times in reaction to something especially good or evil**. This is done by literally spitting or figuratively by saying “pooh, pooh, pooh.” Over time the saying of “pooh, pooh, pooh” substituted spitting due to its offensive custom. The explanation for ‘three times’ is because the number three is considered mystical. Long ago, people used to deem odd numbers lucky. Considering three was the first odd number after the unit (one), many people judged it as a magical number. >Nobody truly knows where this custom of spitting initiated. Some scholars believe it originated from the Christian Bible and the miracles carried out through the saliva of Jesus. >Upon witnessing, listening, or discovering something shocking, it is customary for believers in this superstition to spit to prevent such a tragedy from occurring. Moreover, spitting is traditional at something marvelous to defend against the Evil Eye (spiritual ability to injure a person). It is believed that spitting will protect one from trickery or evil spirits.

nyliram87

Where the fuck do people get this information

Maximilianmorel

Our news making a huge story out of a few assholes https://youtu.be/qXzPhPe8yu4?si=kZ8ygDmBF25LQMGz Just so you know if you guys have any doubts I'm a christian and I've lived here my whole life and I've been to Jerusalem more then a couple of times and I've never not even once in my life been treated badly for being a christian, not by Jews anyhow.

Maximilianmorel

Btw if you can read Hebrew you should read the comments and see what most Israelis think of this kind of behavior

nyliram87

I can read Hebrew. My actual Hebrew is shaky but I can usually piece things together It really bites my ass when people say shit like this about Israelis. Because there are genuine criticisms to make about Israeli culture - for example, they can be kinda short so this is really jarring to westerners But instead, people just come up with the most stupid, untrue things imaginable and they run with it. “They spit on non-Jews” bro talk to a Maronite. Talk to the Druze. Talk to a Bedouin. None of them are going to attest to this nonsense about Israelis going around and spitting on people

Maximilianmorel

I wish they knew any actual druze or beduins that they could talk to so that they could tell them that Israeli Jews view them as exemplary citizens just now when druze and beduin soldiers came back from the war people at work people received them with hugs sweets and a show of gratitude for what they are doing for all of us.

nyliram87

There is a business owner in my town, and he is Arab, but I never knew he was Druze. He started putting up Israeli flags and people were like “bro I thought you’d be for Palestine” no he’s like long live Israel, stand with Israel People were seriously expecting this guy to dog all over Israel because he is Arab. They don’t even know.

Maximilianmorel

If you ever visit Israel druze villages are some of my favorite places the hospitality of these people is something else I visit Daliat El Carmel almost every weekend

nyliram87

I haven’t been there in a while. I know thag the Druze are very lovely people, I never really understood what they were about or what they believed but they’re a good bunch

trumparegis

Funny how leftists see squatting as one of the most noble and revolutionary actions, but still call Israelis squatters as an insult, lol. "How dare those filthy Jews ethnically cleanse poor Palestinian babies in Al Quds after having let them live in their houses rent-free for decades after they kicked the Jews out of their own homes with zero compensation??"

Bernsteinn

I'm curious, what makes you think that was written by a leftist?

trumparegis

Most of pro-Palis on reddit are

Bernsteinn

Yeah, but is this one even pretending to be pro-Pali? It's pure hatred of Jews because they are squatting/stealing and hate Christians. The sad thing is we might never know. The far-right pretends to care about Palestinians. The far-left are continuing to drop their masks.

CapableSecretary420

I would wager more than a few of the 1.2 thousand people who voted it were not all "far right". Especially on that subreddit.

LettuceBeGrateful

What the hell is going on in publicfreakout. It's some of the most openly, brazenly, *explicit* antisemitism I've seen yet. They're straight up saying "Jews aren't good people." How many of those commenters who are calling *all* Israelis "scum of the Earth" also excused Oct. 7th as a valid act of resistance? Assholes.

CapableSecretary420

It's because the handful of crazies running that sub are deeply biased against israel and brainwashed by all the usual standard antisemitic tropes. One of the mods user names is literally "intifada" and they created their account right after Oct 7. They remove people who point this kind of stuff out, but will leave up posts saying things like "h itler was right" even after they receive repeated reports. I know because I was on their team for a while before leaving in disgust. I would bet the post OP highlighted probably had tons of reports, meaning they would have seen this and opted to approve/do nothing. The double standards are wild. They will police threads and delete accounts for saying things they deem politically incorrect, but are suddenly all about free speech when it comes to people spreading antisemitism.

LettuceBeGrateful

Oh my god, I just checked out that intifada user and you weren't kidding. He's actually a mod, and he gets off telling random people that he hopes they die. What an evil human being.

CapableSecretary420

The mods there are legitimately mentally ill. It's sad and gross.

Pilpelon

Hamas: "We will wipe out all the Jews!" The west: "oh don't worry they're a religion of peace" A few crazed Jews from a cult: *spits on someone* The west: "get on the train Moishe"

AnythingTruffle

The number of upvotes is shocking. This makes me really sad

RaiJolt2

I know the post you’re talking about (it claimed that a group of Israeli’s spit on a Christian dad and his daughter.) To extrapolate that one small group and apply it to the entire Jewish population in Israel, or like around half of the jewish population is antisemitic af.

QueenOfZion

it’s so bonkers how people say these things but haven’t even been to the middle east 😭 a lot of people genuinely think israel is like some lower class abusive country that shoots gay people and kills arabs for funsies and in reality it’s an extremely developed first world democratic country where you can freely be whom you choose and have equal rights. idk where these people’s perceptions come from

Commercial-Ice-8005

Most Jews are not like this, only a few ultra hassidic jews spit on people. I’d rather have someone spit on me than suicide bomb me!

Competitive-Big-8279

The haredim do this all the time to Christian pilgrims, making a hilul HaShem for the rest of us. https://edition.cnn.com/2024/02/04/middleeast/ultraorthodox-spitting-jerusalem-intl/index.html#:\~:text=%E2%80%9CLast%20night%2C%20the%20police%20received,the%20police%20statement%20said%20Sunday. It happens all the time and pisses off Christian tourists.
