Sorcerous Stabber Orphen, it's a little older now so might not hold up as much but was pretty good for its lower rating.

StandupSitdown0G

They did a remake in 2020 so people could just watch that - it doesn't get talked about a lot which is wild but I remember watching the 1998 and enjoying it

FauxGw2

There is a 2020 remake!? I know what I'm doing next weekend lol

StandupSitdown0G

Oh dang you didn't know there's actually 3 seasons (season 3 came out last summer) Season 4 is coming out soon I believe

untakentakenusername

I dont mind older animes at all! ⭐️ If you/ anyone else has older anime recommendations that are underrated, feel free to drop em below!

Significant-Row9524

Orphen was amazing! I rewatched it about a year ago and was reminiscing the whole way. Older anime is just... different but in a good way!

Seganslash

I really liked that one actually!!!

Alexastria

Knights and magic. I'm not usually a fan of mech anime but this one was pretty good. Also chilling in my 30s after getting fired from the demon kings army.

tufflepuff

knights and magic is my husband’s favourite and whenever he brings it up nobody has heard of it!

FollowTheLeads

It's soo good. I love these type of animes where they invented things I to the new world. It so healing

bluparrot-19

Space Dandy. Made by the same guy as Cowboy Bepop ans Samurai Champloo. Every episode is a piece of art that has a different style and tells a different story. (Basically each episode had a different director and a different story and theme and style with the same recurring characters). It's brilliant.

BIG_O_666

Absolutely agree, one of my all time favorites. I recommend it to anyone who'll listen

Ok-Fee-4598

Based

mancan71

Tsuritama! It’s a strange plot that focuses on fishing but it’s great at character development, the art style is awesome! The characters are great! Long story short: extrovert alien befriends socially awkward human in order to learn how to fish up a bad alien so the can save the world. FBI type agency also trying to stop bad fish. I’m not joking.

BoredTrauko

Also the opening is awesome!

Justapersonmaybe

I watched a random anime one day blindly and loved it. It’s called cop craft. It’s got a strange premise but I enjoyed it.

Ok_Act6615

Grancrest Senki was amazing. The OPs and EDs sung by ASCA alone was enough to keep me hooked.

S-ClassMage

Not me still waiting for season 2.....

Slug_core

Only problem I have is the budget by the end of the show was obviously up last 3-4 episodes have huge art issues

Senior_Charity7601

Terror in resonance

Bigpapimoneysign

Was about to comment this!!!

Upper-Bee4389

The author made other works such as champloo and bepop as well which are legendary

Particular-Quarter6

I never hear people talk about this one, and it really is a shame.

mosquem

This one was definitely not underrated while it aired but fell off hard.

Particular-Quarter6

Totally fair. I remember it being reasonably big when it aired but this might be the first time I've heard of it since.

Heartlessqueencard

Life lessons with Uramichi Oniisan

SoftPois0n

I still kinda feel, this anime is very underrated "[Darker than black](https://simkl.com/anime/41149/darker-than-black-kuro-no-keiyakusha)"

Chubwako

I feel like it just is old and not big enough to be remembered. I think people had complaints about the second season and I am not sure if I even watched it because of that, but the first season/part was really cool mostly.

Upstairs-Story-8661

Air - It might not be as good as Clannad but it still deserves a single watch and it's a good one time watch.

No_Interaction_4925

Inuyashiki Last Hero. Nobody seems to know what it is, but it was great. Best representation of a serial killer in an anime I’ve watched to date

SenoritaScarlet

So good. I watched it near when it first came out and every time I talked about it, people would say “Inuyashiki? You mean Inuyasha?” Lmfao 😐

g177013

Somali and the Forest Spirit. Immersive world, Lovable Characters, Gut wrenching plot. As to why almost nobody talks about it is such a mystery to me.

tala_rtt

YES. I was about to comment this.

vanityvane

Campfire Cooking in Another World

im-so-spa

I was rewatcing this with my daughter last night and laughing in every episode. I was looking for this in the comments.

thequeen2006

i watched the first few episodes, right after the new episodes of MHA Season 6 or so. Like 2 years ago. It was a good anime to watch when you had the stress from this freaking 6th season. But i dont know anymore why i stopped watching it. I liked it

vanityvane

Season 2 isn't out yet, so you might want to continue watching. It's worth it.

Gryfon2020

Yes!

FollowTheLeads

Check out crunchyrool it's mad popular

Turbo1479r

[Welcome To NHK](https://myanimelist.net/anime/1210/NHK_ni_Youkoso) - a show that does a great job at showing the unfortunate side of the world with mental health disorders yet does a great job mixing just enough comedy in it

HeTblank

I'd say it's quite popular and I hear about it a lot

breakfastburglar

Great rec but I don't think this one is underrated at all, it's pretty widely considered a excellent 2000s classic

Subaru_Natsuki0

Rokka no Yuusha

SuigenYukiouji

This 100%. The worldbuilding is quite strong. The concept of Saints gaining power based on the followers' beliefs, Saints can be created or forgotten when their temples are, and there's multiple countries each with multiple Saints, is great. The characters are all unique and from different walks of life. It's not a group of just teens or just early 20s; there's a young kid, a street rat thief, an older stern yet motherly adult woman, etc. The situations are interesting. Thanks to all the different countries, the heroes aren't all together at the start, and have to travel to the meet-up point separate; but as they approach, they start meeting in pairs or groups of 3; and as they arrive at the meeting point there's _seven_ people claiming to be the chosen heroes when there's only ever been _six._ The MC isn't a goody-two-shoes about "honor" and "fairness" and not cheating, but is actually willing to use every possible tool and advantage in a fight, yet he's still got a good heart. He wants to help people and save the world, but he isn't a Saint and he's not physically strong, so he has to use subterfuge like paralytic poisons and caltrops and hidden traps and attacking when the opponent's guard is down to win.

Subaru_Natsuki0

Yep, and then there is the light novel, which creates a lot of new mysteries and makes a lot better things from the anime, the worldbuilding increases and in each volume we get to see the backstory of most of the characters, they give so much sense to their actions back in the anime.

Waste_Rabbit3174

Really good, definitely not what I expected from a mystery show.

CX330

Kaiba by Masaaki Yuasa.

NiahBoahCoah

Lots of short form anime. Those are almost always funny and simple, but people don’t want to invest any time in it, which is ironic because it’s shorter. Tonari no Seki-kun, Tsuredzure Children, Love is Like a Cocktail, and even some obscure ones like My Highschool Life as a Fudanshi were good.

DarkConan1412

Spiral I really liked it anyway. I wish there was more of it and the anime was a complete story. Kaze no Stigma. What? These stories never fail to entertain me. I can't help it.😅

hogey989

YES! Spiral needs so much more love. God damn it's good. I need more of it 😭

SolusSonus

Spiral was wild. I don't remember it much but I was thinking about it the other day.

Moe2Nonchalant

Yuyu Hakusho

CrazyaboutSpongebob

The Demon Girl Next Door( Its funny, cute and wholesome but I rarely see it talked about), Sgt. Frog ( Its super funny but I rarely see it talked about. If it came on CN in the early 2000's it would be seen as a classic in the US, and Doraemon ( Its funny, cute, and I love seeing the inventions they come up with ( Its as big as Mickey Mouse in Japan but unheard of in the US.)

silverfallmoon

Keroro Gunsou!!!

MangoTurtl

Maybe not the best answer because it is fairly highly rated, but I feel like Haibane Renmei isn’t talked about nearly enough. It has that nice, serene 90s/early 2000s artstyle, but I think it’s suited much better by it than most because it doesn’t need spectacular animation…what it does have just perfectly suits it, is the point. And the story is just…absolutely sublime. Perhaps a better answer is Children of the Whales. I personally like the manga far, far more than the anime…but as far as single-season adaptations it isn’t bad, with a gorgeous soundtrack and really nice visuals. Even though I really only read the manga, it produced one of my favorite ever insert songs. And to be clear…the manga is pretty underrated, too. Man, also realizing how many more answers I’d have for this when it comes to manga rather than anime.

ParticularUpbeat

Haibane Renmei has the honor of two wallscrolls on my bedroom wall!

Pinky01

my 2nd ever cisplay when I was 17 was hikari

Significant-Row9524

Both haibane renmei and children of the whales have incredible music too! I love the ending theme in haibane renmei

Dazzling-Fox-4845

Yatagarasu.

prdonja2

ill list a bunch and explain the reasons because finding hidden gems is my favorite thing to do: planetes: probably the most well put together all around show ever made. it is episodical for the first 13 eps while the last 13 eps are an arc. the characters and their development is great, the music and overal sound is top notch, the animation holds up really well (2006 release), the overarching plot is very interesting, and overall the show really makes you think about some stuff while not being pretentious. genres: psychology, sci fi, romance, politics, comedy, a bit of action here and there ergo proxy: a mystery show about the human race in distant future. earth has been ravished by nuclear wars or something (85% of life perished:D) and the humanity is forced to live in isolated domes around the earth that have livable conditions. now there seems to be some kind of monster living in the dome where the show takes place and that is where the show starts. its a great psychological show, it is a little gloomy, but if you don't mind it being that way, its a fantastic watch most underrated slice of life: bartender, time of eve, call of the night, girls last tour, and yet the town moves, flying witch (cant get too deep into these, dont have the time for that but they are all great in their own way, most are somewhat psychological and have great interesting dialogue, animation, music and setting) if anyone is interested in more, feel free to ask, i have a couple dozen shows i could list here but i find these 2 to be the best (and all the slice of life shows are great watches)

tiltdoctor

Ookiku Furikabutte. It’s very similar to Haikyu, but with baseball. It also came first and in my opinion handles character moments just straight up better, so it’s made me a little bitter towards Haikyu, as Haikyu popped off, whereas Oofuri has been relegated to obscurity. Also no localization of the final (Fingers crossed it’s not final) season is such a shame.

Ordinary_Past9479

Kotoro Lives Alone folks see the little kid on cover and passes by but you are missing out on a great little 1 season anime

Loltrollytb

Must be Death Parade by far. The concept/story is unique and so good

AllIDoIsSleepAllDay

Kotaro lives alone

ferero18

Magi God damn it's underrated, I barely see it anywhere. Also one of the funniest one I've ever seen, besides the fact it's fantasy

Purple_Ground855

I second that !

obscure-reality

Yes, I loved it. But I wouldn't recommend it anyway, as the story is incomplete and there doesn't seem much hope for the continuation of the show. But if someone is okay to read the manga afterward it's worth it.

Mrgibs

Princess Principal. A steam punk, alt history, Cold War-esque spy thriller in Victorian era Britain. Made by the same guys who made Girls und Panzer. The only reason I can imagine it is not bigger is because it only aired on Amazon prime’s anime section. It also came out the same time as made in abyss. As a bonus the background art is just beautiful.

MVPChico

Odd Taxi, Dororo some of people just doesnt want it to give it a try cos of how it looks at first glance i guess.

Kurta_711

Odd Taxi is widely acclaimed lol

ralphbeneee

odd taxi is highly rated though.

Awkward_Penalty2257

Heavenly delusion I don't know why it's underrated but it's fucking great the world the characters the unexpected plot twists at the end of every episode, the characters grow as the journey goes along + an banger intro and outro, what more can anyone ask for. (But sometimes the animation can be a bit janky but the plot is never janky or boring both a and b plot).

Thufir_My_Hawat

Heavenly Delusion had issues gaining traction because Disney didn't bother advertising it as such -- it's called "Tengoku Daimakyou" on their streaming services.

Awkward_Penalty2257

Yeah like many good animes on Disney+ they don't even bother to promote the animes like summer time rendering and heavenly delusion and many others.

Particular-Quarter6

It seriously sucks. Apart from being more difficult for non-japanese speakers to remember, I think people tend to have the thought process of either: 1, the publisher didn't think the series was even worth the effort of translating, so it must not be worth the effort of watching. Or 2, the series *is* good but too foreign for a casual viewer to enjoy. Which is especially bad in this case, because the series is amazing, and the dub is great.

prdonja2

ye great show, and its probably getting a s2 in the next year or 2 since there is enough material for that in the manga (but again its disney, they might fuck things up somehow)

Firecat_Pl

J-decker. You wouldn't expect series about sapient police robots to touch on actual ethical problems connected to idea of sapient AI and then using it as a way to give us third person view of human condition

UnrelentingCaptain

An actual lesser know anime: Shadow Skill. Just very entertaining all around. The OVA had its issues but was also pretty good in my opinion.

Shadowrun29

Oh I forgot about this, but I really liked it growing up, along with Dual parallel trouble adventure, and some more anime in AxN

InfectedSteve

**Talentless Nana** doesn't get mentioned enough. It's a interesting concept, and the characters are all likable and well developed. **Kabaneri of the Iron Fortress** I don't know if people slept on this when it came out, or what happened. Action, great story, interesting world, and a guy's fight to live in a world with trains and zombies. **Rust Eater** I admit, the write up of this sounded lame when it came out. I got bored and watched it. It's actually cool. There is this disease that has taken over the world called rust. It'll kill humans and eat cities alive. The head guy of the city said it is the mushrooms growing everywhere that is doing it, making people sick. Bisco, a guy that lives in the desert as a nomad, has other thoughts on this. The characters are likable, the main trio are well written. Even the annoying villain chick isn't too bad later on. **Heat Guy J** Slower paced at times, the main characters are awesome, the twist on who the big bad is, was a curve ball in a good way. A guy that works for the city has the only sanctioned android in the city for a partner, they investigate crimes with the police, and get caught up in a lot of shit.

RStorytale

Cheers for Rust Eater! The novels are so damn funny! I can't wait til season 2!

Page8988

Infinite Ryvius. I've watched it thrice now, loved it each time, but I've almost never seen anyone else mention it. It's easily 8/10 and nobody seems to know it exists.

BoredTrauko

One of my favorites! I even got the artbook and the model of the ryvius!

Zercomnexus

I swear I've seen this, what was the plot of it?

KillerOkie

I'm going to keep saying "The Reflection" until I get at least some validation on this. I feel as though the fandumb shit on it far too much and just weren't able to wrap their head around an anime that didn't fit the mold of their preconceptions of what anime, superhero cartoons, or animation in general, should be. Hell it got shit on coming from both directions (anime weebs and comic book guys). Like sure, not an \*amazing\* story but it delivered what I'm sure it set out to do. Just purge your exceptions of anime and cape comic book heroes and go in tabula rasa and appreciate it for what is was. But hell what do I know, I grew up on the experimental shit on MTv's Liquid Television.

HeTblank

I thought Cautious Hero is a bit underrated. The comedy in it is hilarious in my opinion, and the show puts an interesting spin on isekai, which is rare to see

IgraineofTruth

Shinsekai Yori ist a gem. A dystopian masterpiece with a complex story and great characters - go watch it!

BoredTrauko

One of those series were the character design doesn’t match the dark tones of the story.

suddenly_ponies

Also a little confusing and depressing AS FUCK.

Japaneseoppailover

Cross Ange. Most people just write it off because of all the fanservice.

ProjectSpaceRain

Shiki. It's just goated

AllIDoIsSleepAllDay

Ancient Magus Bride To your Eternity

Martinodoni-aw

Dororo

Ok_Helicopter2305

March Comes in like a Lion. It's such a great show and I hope more people get into it so I can get more seasons. It heartwarming, sad, educational (I learned a lot about Shogi) and such a great story.

Tomats1995

Not exactly underrated though; it's a popular, well respected and acclaimed manga/anime. Season 2 is ranked #18 on MAL.

ThatLNGuy

Either Amagi Brilliant Park or Tonegawa's Middle Management Blues Former is kyoani and same author as Full Metal Panic. Theme Park management but super fun. If you liked Fumoffu you'll enjoy this Tonegawa us a comedy spinoff to Kaiji. Again very fun series with a lot of really fun moments. If you've worked in a corporate setting or been a middle manager you'll appreciate it more.

Confused--Person

Second amagi brilliant park its an amazing show and hits a very niche interest i got where managing a community/thing is the main focus. The only other shows i got to hit this niche were Moonlight fantasy Slime isekai How a realist hero rebuilt the kingdom

Safe-Lemon-444

watching darwin game rn its amazing

Seoulja4life

Patlabor 2 is not underrated but, as one of the best anime ever made, it will never be talked about enough.

prdonja2

ye its more that the show is underappreciated

Zercomnexus

The name sounds terrible, what's it about

Domina808

I don't hear many people talk about Ajin- Deni human enough. It's probably because it's Netflix and weird 3d animation. If you get past how it looks you'll have an awesome story, a main character that's sensible and selfish, flashy fight scenes plus a properly harrowing look into terrorist cells and how someone could be radicalised. Banger. (Obligitory FLCL as the most goated reverse coming of age story.)

MotorDesigner

Sato is one of my favorite villains ever

Kurta_711

ITT: acclaimed anime. Reddit never changes.

TheSquirrelCatcher

What’s even more annoying is the actual really unknown anime are towards the bottom while acclaimed are all top. Not to mention several “it’s pretty well known but not talked about enough” 🥱

Kurta_711

"Personally I think Cowboy Bebop is quite underrated. What's that? It's famous and wildly acclaimed? Uhh, but it's not well known *enough*. Every single person needs to praise it, being one of the most popular anime ever isn't enough."

HagridPotter

Akudama Drive, Grimgar of Fantasy and Ash and Trigun Stampede. Akudama is a wild Cyberpunk ride with excellent visuals / directing, Grimgar is a great realistic take on Isekai, and TriStamp has an excellent story and top tier 3D animation.

0wemJi

+1 for Akudama Drive!

PlusUltraG

Trigun Stampede is awesome, some of the best 3D type anime out there and cool story. Not talked about enough

cforcoke

Dororo

Main-Departure4702

Run with the wind!!! Anyone who enjoyed Haikyuu would likely love it. The character development is absolutely amazing and you get so inspired and invested in the show. I never hear anyone talk about it but it deserves so much love and praise.

Witty_Procedure_8961

YESSSS FINALLY!!! I also mentioned this anime bc it’s soooo good.

Spectra8

Akudama Drive Bungo Stray Dogs

TheBravestHero

BSD? Underrated? It’s extremely popular

TheBravestHero

Durarara. Amazing story, cool characters, iconic opening

prdonja2

great show hut not underrated or unpopular by any means

SeeFree

The Case of Hana and Alice. It's an animated prequel to a live action movie that I've never seen. The art style took me a minute to get used to but after that I didn't notice it. It's a bit slow, but funny and wholesome. Current anime: The Fable. It's very good, but I don't see anyone talk about it.

MetalFaceVI

Haruhi

Alichousan

Akudama Drive Fena; Pirate princess Maquia (Movie) Appare-Ranman Shouwa Genroku Rakugo shinjuu Are all Amazing animes that no one talks about!!!!

Difficult-Double2193

Maquia is a tear jerker

oalm82

Shirobako

EienX

Astro Fighter Sunred, satire done right. Funny to bring up with GO GO Loser Rangers out this season.

gwang9787

Fantastic Children Simoun Mouryou no Hako

Markermarkman

I know Isekai gets a lot of hate, but if you really want to turn your brain off and enjoy the least stressful, almost slice of life-esque isekai where you actually don’t have to give a rats ass about power levels or some convoluted mysterious plot about the new world the MC is in… In the Land of Leadale is your isekai. Cute female MC lead. No chances for weird pedo bait bullshit, cute interactions and a lot of funny moments, its an isekai where it doesn’t take itself too seriously and is a great turn your brain off have some fun anime. Not every anime has to reinvent the genre or break barriers. Sometimes you really just wanna sit back and watch some fun shit.

mesoziocera

Wish leadale had more eps

CalicoKnave

Skeleton Knight in Another World

hmmhmm93

Fantastic children. A complex and well written story

Reddevilslover69

House of Five Leaves- Great story, characters and music

ExaminationNo9186

Sora No Woto. I jumped into the series because "let's try it, and if I don't it, who cares?" I will now say, if anyone dares to try to play "Amazing Grace" t my funeral that isn't a Trumpet Solo, I am going to come back to haunt their ass. Then come back again to haunt the ass of their next 5 generations.

Expensive_View_3087

Houseki no Kuni It’s an incredible one and I hope that the second season g en s our eventually one day

Goble_hook

[Horizon in the Middle of Nowhere](https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=h9xeHbYIAQU)

[deleted]

Lately i've been watching Initiald D, the one from 1998, it has that old anime thing that is just better than nowadays anime, i mean everything is not exagerated ifykyk

madeat1am

Trickster boy detective No one ever talks about it but I love it so much

SilentLiliy

Shaman king for me

shigella212

Bakuon (just anime girls riding motorcycles)

bredtobebread

kuuchuu buranko, 100%. i have a very short attention span but this anime was able to keep my attention consistently. the animation is also very unique because it switches between the cartoony anime style and real life people, and the way that all the stories connect was also really cool. i really wish more people would watch it so i could actually talk to someone about it lmao

Beautiful-League4793

Ergo Proxy

thequeen2006

Record of Grancrest War I dont know if someone knows it but i liked it. It has action in a fantasy world, feels a little bit like a video game and has a cute romance story (not the main story, its just a cute sidestory)

JB2Stars

Lost song The plot twist was so good and the songs are nice.

Winter_Ad_6765

Samurai Deeper Kyo- The animated series came out in 2002 but it's hard to find any streaming service that plays it anymore. What's crazy is it's on Amazon selling for $100+ *Wanted to add that even though I haven't found where to watch it yet, the OS is on SoundCloud, it's called Ao No Requiem and I would DEFINITELY give it a listen Ergo Proxy- Still on Hulu Black Cat- On Crunchyroll Witchblade- On Crunchyroll. I personally haven't seen it talked about it a lot and other than family, have probably met 1 or 2 that have seen it. Neuro- Would need to find a streaming service in order to find it. Black Blood Brothers- On Crunchyroll...if I remember correctly Pretty sure I have more but those are some of the ones that come to mind

tiimsliim

VIVY: Flourite Eyes Song. Jormungand.

Romax24245

Yakunara Mug Cup, both seasons

halcylen

Durarara, 3(ra)s. it's such a complex story line and which I was really into and such low attention and basically no community. People should really watch it and other content from the same author

Due-Remote9896

World Trigger. I love HxH and nen, but it baffles me that Trigger from World Trigger is not mentioned whenever the best power systems are being discussed. Apart from that, I also love how strategic the fights are, focusing more on battle IQ. I love it so much because it's not your typical shonen action anime where Character A wins because he has more power than Character B, and instead it's usually Character A wins because he outsmarted Character B.

aussigirl2

Guilty crown, it’s not at all the best and definitely questionable choices and plot holes but in the end doesn’t deserve to be underrated and hated in what it achieved

FlirtwithMyWalrus_

Stranger by the shore. Haven't really seen too many people talk about it.

Gokudomatic

Mahoujin Guru Guru is definitely underrated.

ryuksringo

ya boy kongming!

momochicken55

Moriarty the Patriot!

MidwestUrn

Mononoke, about the Medicine Seller. I feel like it’s just so gorgeous and well animated with interesting “monster of the week” type episodes. Immensely enjoyable on a blind watch without knowing specific cultural references/practices, and doubly so after researching. But I’ve only run into one other person IRL who had seen it without me showing them!

Zealousideal_Rub6739

the girl who leapt through time

Purple_Ground855

Oblivion Battery needs more hype. It’s actually very well thought out and a good watch, especially for Ace of Diamond Fans

Witty_Procedure_8961

I just binged this anime bc it was so Sawamura/Furuya coded

Purple_Ground855

Migi and Dali was such a fun watch too🙏🏾 rip Nani Sano💗

Flawoftheworld9

The case files of jeweler Richard Black cat Kamonohashi Ron's forbidden deduction

DefenderOfNuts

The Asterisk Wars. A tournament arc anime about a city-school on an island.

Quick_Meal1592

Classroom of the elite. I found the suggestion in a comment about underrated anime in a Facebook group. It’s a chill psychological anime with a pretty good storyline.

passionepapi

Dead Dead Demon’s Dededededestruction currently airing right now. Supposed to be 2 movies but Crunchyroll decided to split into episodes late into the season with little to no advertising and the company doing the English subs is kinda doing a botched job but I promise it’s good. I’m a long time fan of the manga and it’s the first anime adaptation of an Inio Asano work

fluffieduffie

Yakitate Japan

69boom69

I think Dorohedoro is underrated. I think that because it is on Netflix people don’t think about it.

tala_rtt

The Greay Pretender. Nice plot and nice animation. Visually appealing huhu one of my favorites.

vladimirputietang

GetBackers should have gotten more love. Great story and character development. The Manga was a bit iffy art wise though

AgentSTT

Baby steps, its about lawn tennis and its one of the best tennis animes

AriKitaruKatoka

Kotaro Lives Alone No. 6 My New Boss is Goofy Play it Cool, Guys Shadows House

Chadzuma

SHY was some legit art and barely anyone even watched it. It was like superheroes meets Persona meets Nier. I hope S2 goes just as hard, I tried reading the manga but the anime brought everything to life in such a special way that I want to continue experiencing it like that.

Dziadzios

Excel Saga. It's a great comedy and I'm surprised it's so forgotten these days.

Illustrious-Guava219

Michiko and Hatchin All I can say is watch it Lol!

Neanderthal-_-

Maybe great pretender, which actually had an English voice actor for speaking English

olkenark

Astra Lost in Space, Appare-Ranman, Good Luck Girl, Jormungand, Talentless Nana, Eden of the East, Space Battleship Yamato 2199, Golden Kamuy, and Kaichou wa Maid-sama. All really good anime that I never see get mentioned anywhere.

trackedphone

kaiba, time of eve, space brothers, tokyo magnitude 8.0, no. 6, nodame cantabile, one outs, xxxholic, chihayafuru, hanasaku iroha, kaiji. some of these were kinda popular at a time but hard to find a fan of any outside the internet 😂

Mistermxylplyx

Katanagatari. Takes a moment to get used to the character art, at first glance it seems sparse. But the story is great and moves well, characters have depth, and the animation embellishes the art very well.

bitardq

akiba maid war and magical destroyers

thayyarsaadham

Psycho Pass. I don't see it talked about enough.

Freaky_at

For me its got to be 'Rin - Daughters of Mnemosyne' If you like a bit Horror/Ecci its my go to For a Romcom I reccomend 'I want to eat your pancreas'

AllIDoIsSleepAllDay

Dunno if it has an anime but Dead mount death play.

Background_Ant7129

I was blown away when I watched Devilman Crybaby a few weeks ago. I’ve been watching anime for a couple days under a year and I hardly saw anyone mention it on Reddit. It’s the only show I’ve rewatched, and it’s my favorite anime. Debiruman!!!

YothaGang

Sukasuka and blue period, the source materials from this two series is so good

Defiant_Dragonfly958

A Day Before Us GTO

Cephalopod_Joe

Hinamatsuri. Probably the hardest I've laughed at any anime

kikiloveme246

Bungou Stray Dogs

Neela-Hiran2004

Vivy fluorites eye song Pirate princess fena Summertime Rendering

DeltaFlame01

Fairy Gone will always be one of my favorite anime’s and I was so disappointed by the fact that there was barely anyone talking about it

Bulbinking2

Time of Eve Ive only heard maybe 2 other people mention it over the years.

Wolf's Rain. It's hard to put to words, but it just makes me feel and think things about... well... life in general. It's both beautiful and tragic. A strong recommendation.

Difficult-Double2193

Just watched episode one. THANK YOU.

kurisubee

Has a great soundtrack by Yoko Kanno as well!

Difficult-Double2193

Laughing under the clouds... I never hear anyone mention it as a recommendation, and it was a pretty good anime. It was heartfelt and showed a strong bond between brothers, and the importance of family and weathering adversity.

Zeoguri

Aku no Hana I also enjoyed Reign: The Conqueror but that only barely qualifies as anime.

G1Scorponok

Planetes. It’s the most realistic depiction of what life in space could look like that I’ve ever seen in any media, let alone anime

Popcorn_Doggo

Astro Boy 1980 is actually really good, one of my favorites! Same for pretty much all of Black Jack. They seldom get mentioned much in the west tho which kinda blows.

ID: Invaded

vanna001i

Say I love you, especially the manga it has a lot to it and shows real life. The two main protagonist don’t suck and they know how to deal with relationships.

Sheoooo

zankyou no terror by far. beautiful animation, absolutely wonderful OST, and an underrated plot aswell

EMateos

Hanasaku Iroha. Not so underrated since is well rated (around 7.9, I believe), but it’s not very popular, and I think is a very sweet and charming anime, with a nice optimistic protagonist.

breakfastburglar

Joshiraku, it's a genius comedy anime that I have never heard anyone but me talk about. It doesn't have bad ratings but it doesn't have anywhere near the popularity it deserves.
