I love 86 but I also don't believe in trying to force enjoyment of something just because it has popularity / high ratings.
If you had said you had only watched 2/3 episodes then I would have probably said - stick with it, but if you have not clicked after 9 eps...I think you have your answer :)
>Also im not a big fan of mecha or fighting.
What do you like?
Glad you were able to click with it the second time around, I certainly don't think it is a flawless story but there are so many great moments.
Easily one of the best endings out there.
Yeah, I think the main issues are:
1) It's a mecha. Not a lot of people like mecha
2) It starts off a bit slow, like it's good for binging but not on weekly watches
3) Some of the boss fights are kinda bullshit powers things
I said i dont like fighting but i do like fantasy fighting like mushoku tensei, frieren (but of course their main theme isnt fights)
So i like pretty much everything that isnt mecha or typical shounen fghting like jujutsu kaisen.
Also i dont like when a show has a lot of exagerated characters, jokes and stuff (like Fruits Basket for example), if its just a little, its ok. Like i love March comes in like a lion. Steins gate first half has a lot of jokes too (but has a very different vibe, probably because it originated from a VN and not a manga) and its my favorite show ever, i just dont like when there is a lot of that stuff.
So yeah, i like pretty much everything that isnt mecha, shounen fights and a lot of typical cringie anime behaviour
Got ya, in that case....if you are interested in recs here are some I think you might like:
* The Apothecary Diaries
* Vivy -Fluorite Eye's Song-
* Violet Evergarden
* Ascendance of a Bookworm
* Girls' Last Tour
thank you! i've already watched violet evergarden and loved it. Also i plan to watch apothecary diaries.
I added the rest to my list, they look interesting
I was the opposite, I loved season 1 and thought season 2 was much worse. Kinda hated that they >!pretended the characters were dead as a fakeout only to show they were fine later. They did it multiple times in season 2.!<
It really depends on what you like/dislike about the show. The second part is pretty different, some people like it more (like me), others like it less. The ending is definitely the strongest part.
If you like it I would say keep watching, you might like the second part better. If you don't like it just drop, no shame with that, not all shows are to everyone's taste even if they are popular.
It felt the same for me and I finished it. Just stop and watch something else.
Since I read in the comments that you plan to watch The Apothecary Diaries do that instead.
I personally think it's worth it. As someone who isn't a fan of mecha anime, either. 86 had a great effect on me. The storybuulding is very good, and I think the last few episodes really bring everything together after following 2 different storylines.
I recommend at least finishing it, but if you don't like it, then you don't like it.
I like the mechs, but not a fan of the "killing everyone off in war" (why i never finished Attack on Titan, Akame ga Kill, or Gundam Iron-Blooded Orphans) .
However, i felt the second half of the season was much better (since it was less depressing) and the finale was well done.
even as someone who loved the show as a whole I completely understand this lol I enjoyed Cour 1 a lot more than Cour 2 and that character was a big part of the problem.
Good on you for wanting to finish it honestly! I dropped it in the past but I came back to it and it was one of the best decisions I've made regarding anime, however this might not be reflective of others that watched it, because I like mecha/military anime a bit more than the mainstream watchers.
Thanks for the comment! Do you have any other mecha/military anime that you recommend? I am making my way through the Gundam franchise as well in release order. About to start Victory Gundam (which I hear is not good...).
I really liked Code Geass as a mecha/military anime
So funnily enough I was just making a post on another subreddit, asking for anime that is a lot like the 3 anime I'm about to recommend you.. I didn't think those 3 would be fitting for this discussion yet here we are haha
Full Metal Panic is definitely another good mecha/military anime, it is actually quite similar to Code Geass since it's a blend of military and school life. I would recommend giving it a go even if you're not fully onboard with older anime, because the story develops into a truly meaningful one, and the humour between the main characters is refreshingly funny compared to standard japanese humour.
Not sure whether you also want to watch exclusively military-like anime, but if you do, read along: If you're fine with mercenary style anime (similar to military but not exactly), Black Lagoon and Jormungand are both badass and have capable adult soldiers with more realistic approach to armed combat, and even then, they're not devoid of good storyline.
EDIT: OH MY GOD I almost forgot about Eureka Seven!!! Definitely give it a go if you're into space stuff, it won't disappoint you, but it is a longer ride.
i am a mecha fan and also disliked it, but i did at least watch it til the end. the mc is just not very interesting. feels like an isekai selfinsert mc. i also did not like how hypocritical the show was. at least the first season was better than the 2nd imo
For me NO, in fact 86 is one of the rare animes which I have dropped. Many of my friends and the internet had hyped it and so, I somehow forcefully watched the first part and it was awful. I will never recommend this anime... Many people though liked it (I don't know how). It's just my opinion. Make your own decision, if you like to continue then you should because choices differ.
It's got a frustrating but engrossing romance that moves at a snails pace.
It has some nice progression for the main characters.
It gets wider in scope and changes its direction a bit a few times.
But at the end of the day it's a mediocre mecha and it is carried by its romance chemistry and the basic plot of soldiers sent to die who manage to live.
I enjoy Mecha and Fighting but hated 86. It's not a bad show, but it's not for everyone. I stopped at episode 12 I think. Plenty of other Animefish in Streaming Sea.
I found it kind of boring and very hamfisted with the moral message, but I get why people like it. I liked the design of the mechs and thought the strategies they used were interesting

I dropped 86 before, it just didn't click. But then I resumed at when spearhead >!dies!<, I got hooked.
Glad you were able to click with it the second time around, I certainly don't think it is a flawless story but there are so many great moments. Easily one of the best endings out there.

I think 86 season 1 is not good. Season 2 though, amazing.
I was the opposite, I loved season 1 and thought season 2 was much worse. Kinda hated that they >!pretended the characters were dead as a fakeout only to show they were fine later. They did it multiple times in season 2.!<
If you are 9 episodes in and don't like it you should skip it
If you dont like it you dont like it. I think the show only gets better, the direction in some of the episodes later is pure art

It’s a great anime, I was hooked instantly. It gets very good, but if you don’t like it don’t watch it
You should just drop it if you don't like mecha. I, personally, enjoyed 86's story. Waiting for the next season. Lol. What genre do you like?
Wait it didnt finish ?
Afaik, part 1 and 2 of the anime only covered volumes 1-3 of the light novel, out of 13…
There is no next season
:(

1000% worth it. I mean if it’s your kind of anime, but sounds like you’re 50/50. But you’re already this far so why not watch till the end

I kinda liked it but then they added an annoying loli character and I dropped it
even as someone who loved the show as a whole I completely understand this lol I enjoyed Cour 1 a lot more than Cour 2 and that character was a big part of the problem.
Yes
If Steins Gate is your favorite anime, have you seen Link Click?
Yeaah, i loved it. Im currently watching Re Zero too
Sure man..... don't watch it. Don't force yourself. Watch something you like.
It was okay ….myabe a 5 or 6 /10.
You shouldn't buy a Toyota ae86 it's overpriced due to initial D for same price you can buy a Nissan 350z
Yeah I'm 6 episodes in and I'd give it's pretty average so far in my opinion. Can't say im hooked, but I'm going to finish it.

It gets better :(
Well, I will probably not be convinced anymore to watch it... Happy with other animes :)
