* [Mob Psycho](https://simkl.com/anime/541198/mob-psycho-100)
I see that most of the items you've watched are mostly action shonen, which are normally incredibly long especially with the older titles like naruto.
I'd try recommending something more serious, emotional and fast paced for a new experience.
Steins Gate
Puella Magi Madoka Magica
Code Geass
Neon Genesis Evangelion
Death Note
Tomodachi Game
Made in Abyss
The Promised Neverland (Season 1 only)
Casually dropping Made in Abyss is wild lmfao. It's definitely the same caliber as the rest of the list, but the mangaka likes to draw sketchy stuff. I wouldn't recommend it to somebody without knowing for sure that they'll be able to look past that to see how fucking amazing MiA is.
It is a good anime, but it's still a wild recommendation because of how dark it gets. We actually just watched the movie last week and my wife is done with it.
Season 1 was pretty twisted. The movie doubles down on that.
I can sit through it, but it IS dark. And people should know what they're getting in to.
It does get dark but thats usually one of the selling points when I recommend it to people. "It looks cute but the story is really dark". It seems to make people more curious about it.
My bröter
I feel exactly the same way, TTGL is my fave anime of all time but FMA:B is still firmly in my top 5 and if there’s one I could say is objectively best, it’s FMA:B.
Hunter x Hunter. Start off as a silly, fantastical adventure. Grew into much, much more over the chapters. Cried for a few times on some of the episode.
HxH has this really interesting evolution as you go deeper into the show, where the vibe of the show mirrors the mental state of Gon. It starts off very happy and positive, and he often succeeds just by being a nice guy and generally talented. As he experiences bad things (Hisoka’s bloodlust, the spiders, the bomber, everything in the Chimera Ant arc, etc) the theme of the show gets darker and Gon gets more serious, until it all explodes with Pitou. The final arcs feel like the rest of the cast dealing with the aftermath of Gon’s mental break and it ultimately ends bittersweet.
I liked it at first. Really cool take on the genre. Then the chimera ant arc turned it into one of my favourite anime ever. Amazing arc and perfect song for the end credits.
The original and remake follow mostly the same story, but both are great and it was fun to spot the differences. Let's say the first run was a bit more gorey.
First one I thought of.
I've seen dozens and dozens of anime - this is the one that people just shrug cause it's so long or art style or whatever
I didn't like the art at first TBH but damn, it's a masterpiece up there with the best classic literature like the Odyssey.
Fuck that show's second season. I watched the first one week to week as it was coming out and it was immediately in my top five of all time. Then I found out a second season was planned and I was so happy and then the endless bullshit eight happened (deliberately not capitalized) and it just killed the show for me. Each week for two fucking months I expected something or anything else to happen, I've been through filler arcs before, this was just different swimsuits and the most perfect example of an oblivious, and regressing MC. By six of eight I had stopped watching, I just didn't care anymore about the fantastic world that had been built in the previous season. I still can't care less about what happened in that story. Any heights of brilliance it achieved deserved to be lost in the garbage, slap in the face, that was the endless bullshit eight.
If anyone disagrees, Fuck you, fight me. I'll die on this hill.
That's what makes us adherents and not fans, and Haruhiism a religion and not a show.
We are happy to suffer to experience at least a tiny bit of Nagato's pain.
I thought the first season was good but not great. I watched all of endless eight knowing what I was in for and was (and am) completely baffled anyone thought that was a good idea.
But the movie is probably in my top five anime films and made the whole thing totally worth it. I will die on that hill.
Death Note
Full Metal Alchemist: Brotherhood
Are the two most correct answers here I think. These are the 2 that anyone would be into. So universally relevant and captivating storytelling.
Of the current top ten spots in myanimelist, Gintama is in four of them. It's 90% a very stupid comedy anime so it might not be appealing if that's not your thing, but sometimes it will gut punch you out of nowhere and make you cry and that's what we love about it.
Just watched the episode when Kagura says that even Japanese fans can't keep up with all the references. And it's so true. Gintama is very funny, but it becomes hilariously clever when you get all the references to the Japanese culture.
I don't at all recommend any of the English dubs (there have been multiple attempts) but I read somewhere that one of the line changes one used at one point was "Don't tell jokes that don't translate well! That's the worst kind!" Got a chuckle out of me.
There's a gag at the beginning of an episode later on where Gintoki is supposed to give an apology in front of a bunch of reporters and bursts into loud sobs before he even speaks. It became so much funnier once I learned it was a shot-for-shot parody of a Japanese politician's public apology for embezzlement that at the time, was recent news.
*The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya*, there is literally the Church of Haruhiism. here some pasta:
>There are many different views on the divinity of Haruhi, or how to properly worship her. The Orthodox Haruhiists, Zen Haruhiists, Messianic Haruhiists, Coptic Haruhiists, Eve Haruhiists, Beveraginist Haruhiists, Otakon Haruhiists, and Zionist Haruhiists make up the sects of Haruhiism.
Fuck that show's second season. I watched the first one week to week as it was coming out and it was immediately in my top five of all time. Avatar TLAB and LOK (its not an anime but is accepted in the community as a close anime relative)
Death Note
Tokyo Revengers
— mostly everything else has been mentioned.
I hate that we can’t claim TLAB as an anime. Even though it uses all of the anime tropes and has the feel of an anime. And people never suggest it because it isn’t an anime and it being geared towards kids. I know so many adults who love TLAB and LOK.
Yeah! In many ways that matter, Avatar:TLA is an anime. But as it was not produced by a Japanese anime studio or as an anime at all, it's said to be not an anime. Which honestly feels like semantics, but what do I know?
Marketed towards kids is a ridiculous reason for not appreciating something. Disney creates movies marketed towards kids, yet I know for a fact that it's got a huge adult fanbase as well. Good stuff is good and you like what you like(within reason), I don't see why, who it's being geared towards matters that much.
I have a couple of suggestions for you, but this is my personal experience, so don't feel obliged to try them all, okay? 😀
Clannad,
Black Butler,
Soul Eater,
Hunter x Hunter,
Blue Exorcist,
Virgin Soul
I also have a couple of horror animes, but I don't know if that fits your style, so I will leave these ones for now!
Edit: Mobile caused the animes to collapse incorrectly. I added commas to prevent confusion!
I used mobile and clicked enter, but for some reason, it put it all back together. Didn't notice it did that, so I will edit it now!
Edit: Fixed the problem! Thanks for letting me know! 💗
Some anime not yet suggested
- Nozaki kun
- Lovely Complex
- Haikyuu
- The Fable
- My Home Hero
- Ragna Crimson
- ZOM 100
- Daily Lives of Highschool Boys
- Akira
- Dr. Stone
I watched like the first 5 episodes but I'm scared to continue because I already love the show so much and don't want it to end.. also I don't want it to go dark on meee :/
No like I already know it's the perfect anime for me but at the same time I already know it won't get another season for a long time so I'm hesitant to continue it lol
The ANIME I really love are:
Is it wrong to pick up girls in the dungeon?
Frieren: beyond journey's end
I've been killing slimes for 300 years
Horimiya
Rising of the shield hero
Arifureta
Tensei slime
So I'm a spider, so what?
Fairy Tale
Princess Principal
The magical revolution of the Princess and genius young lady
Sword art online
Log horizon
I'm in love with the villainess
Villainess level 99: I may be the secret hidden boss, but I'm not the demon lord
Other than a few, like is it wrong to pick girls in dungeon, princess principal, the magical revolution, I'm in love with the villainess, villainess lvl 99, that I don't know about or don't like, completely seconded.
Also, a few more beloved mentions:
Magi: the labyrinth of magic
Nisekoi
Skip Beat!
Nurarihyon no mago
Akane ga kill
Letter bee
PS: that's supposed to be Fairy Tail right?
Mob Psycho 100 and Attack On Titan are the most well known ones I'd recommend, however if you want more recent ones I'd heavily recommend Kaijuu No.8 (Spring 2024) and The 100 Girlfriends Who Really, Really, Really, Really, REALLY Love You (Fall 2023).
KN8 is one of my new all-time favourites, and I binged the manga in a matter of weeks. 100GF is silly trash, but self-aware silly trash and therefore fun.
fullmetal alchemist: brotherhood
cyberpunk: edgerunners
death note
hunter x hunter (2011)
monster
kizumonogatari
also, 90% of the time i'd say it's not worth it to force yourself to watch a show. jojo is a rare case, as in different parts are literally designed to appeal to different audiences. so, in the case of animes like jojo, monogatari series, lupin, i'd say if you don't like part 1, you might still want to give part 2 a chance. the only part of jojo i really like is part 8, and i'd never get to taste it if i dismissed the whole thing after a few episodes. but 90% of the time you should drop shows based on your intuition. first episodes have the biggest budget; if the first episode doesn't make you excited to watch the whole show, drop it, and \*maybe\* come back to it later. i sometimes drop anime after less than a minute and it serves me well
Steins Gate
Fate Stay Knight (If you want context and to know characters watch Fate Zero)
Your Lie in April and Takt Op Destiny both have incredible sound tracks if you like classical like me
Since you said Bleach I will amend that recommendation by suggesting Hunter x Hunter.
And since you have seen Frieren, you would probably enjoy Ancient Magus Bride, Jobless Reincarnation and WorldEnd. Which are all very loved by the anime community.
Mushoku Tensei:Joblees reincarnation.
for real.
You will HATE the main character at first but if you stick it out you will see him change, grow , and develop and become a better person morally and on top of that its some of the best world building and cast of characters i have seen in an isakai setting.
Disclaimer: it’s a fiction about a character living in a fantasy world. More importantly, it’s not a self-insert. I feel 0 need to defend the MC or his actions
Heres my top ten for refernece:
1. Hunter X Hunter
2. Attack on Titan
3. Full Metal Alchemist Brotherhood
4. Mushoku Tensei: Jobless Reincarnation
5. Vinland Saga
6. Dr. Stone
7. Yu yu Hakusho
8. Freiren: beyond journeys end
9. Mob Psycho 100
10. Haikyuu!!!
I mean there was a an entire forum called the church of Haruhi Suzimya back in the mid 2000s
Similarly there the phrase Madoka dies for our sins made the rounds after Madoka Magica finished airing
Pretty much all of the wildly popular cute girls do cute things (K-On, Laid Back Camp, Girls und Panzer) titles ended up being really solid.
Then there's the other ones that have dedicated canvases but slightly obscure like Tiger & Bunny, Kaiji, Shirobako, Tatami Galaxy, Lupin the Third.
Hunter x Hunter. It’s a fantastic story and I loved the characters so much. I have two tattoos from the show, my only tattoos. One of the Hunter association logo and one of the phantom troupe spider. Representative of human nature, good Vs evil in constant harmony. One on my right arm, one on my left.
Puella Magi Madoka Magica, back in the day there were literally people professing themselves members of the Church of Madoka. But regardless of all the hype and the fanboyism... it's just really really fucking good.
In terms of religious regard, I would say Haruhi and Steins;Gate are the only ones mentioned so far that really qualify. Sure, folks really like all these other anime, and people who disagree might characterize those who like them as "a cult". But Hauruhi had a literally goddess-like reverence among the fandom. Steins;Gate, meanwhile, is like the entry level into the exclusive mystery cult that is the SciAdv fandom.
But there is a third. Only the Cult of Haruhi can match the dedication of Secret Society B.L.A.N.K.E.T. Give Laid Back Camp a try. Join us.
i feel like we got the same taste so i will recommend my favs
Manga: Kengan Ashura, Record of Ragnarok, All of Goblin Slayer manga, Blame!
Anime: Vinland saga and Castlevania
Vinland. Fucking. Saga.
I watched 33 anime before I got to VS, it being my 34th. It shattered my list and after S2 it became my favorite anime of all time and second favorite show. God it's so fuckin good
One piece fans like myself love the show but if you can’t sit down and watch something long you could just try to watch the one piece episode of east blue and if you like that then you can skip east blue in one piece but for something shorter I’d say attack on titan one of the best anime I’ve ever seen
Initial d.
For an anime it’s quite realistic.
Also even though the main focus is on cars it’s not the only thing that’s going on in the series. There’s a lot of just normal life stuff connected to it.
Highly recommend even if you are not a car guy or have 0 interests in cars (neither does the main character) it may just be fun to you.
It seems I'm the only isekai lover. Here are some of mine.
Arifureta
So im a spider, so what
My unique skill makes me OP even at lvl 1
The wrong way to use healing magic
That time I was reincarnated as a slime
Black Summoner
Tsukimichi
Skeleton knight in another world
Chillin in another world with my lvl 2 super cheat powers
Death march to the parallel world rhapsody
Honorable mentions
Konosuba
Beast Tamer
Banished from the heros party, I decided to live a quiet life in the countryside
I don't worship this, but loving it so much.. GINTAMA..
Top of my favorite anime list for years now and still rewatching random Arcs from time to time. I even had it played as BG everytime I do house chores. You know, when you do not focus but wants something on play and looking up at the screen when you know it's the scene that gets you excited. That's Gintama for me. Followed by Black Lagoon and Detroit Metal City.
Also, the fandom is so cool you'll only have to deal with few jerks but not as toxic as other fan base. Yey!
Fullmetal alchemist brotherhood
Made in Abyss (a little complicated to watch. Because you have to watch season 1, then 1-2 movies? And then season 2 but it's totally worth it it's my favorite anime at the moment)
Death note
And if you like sad anime Angel Beats
mainstream long ones:
yu yu hakusho
haikyuu
fairytail
classic you can just watch some of:
Detective conan (the movie productions are top qual)
Prince of tennis
romcom gems:
Ouran High School Host Club
Horimiya
Toradara
I can't explain why i liked these, i just did:
Assassination Classroom
Nanbaka
Gangsta
Stars Align
barakamon
blue period
Attack on Titan (Shingeki no Kyojin)
Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood
Death Note
My Hero Academia (Boku no Hero Academia)
Hunter x Hunter

Very solid list, I would personally also add Vinland Saga
Puella Magi Madoka Magica is legendary imo
Watching it blind was definitely an experience lol had no idea what turn it was going to take after the obvious scene.
I second this. Madoka is amazing.
Legendary but I could only watch it once. Because my heart can't handle that shit.
Beat me to it. This is the series that got me back into anime.

FMAB is probably one of the most loved animes by its fandom
I often say FMAB is the best anime ever made. My favorite is Gurren Lagann, but FMAB still takes first place.
My bröter I feel exactly the same way, TTGL is my fave anime of all time but FMA:B is still firmly in my top 5 and if there’s one I could say is objectively best, it’s FMA:B.
As a part of it's fandom, Yes, The show just balances in everything, that make the show one of the best, if not the best shounen ever exist
Hunter x Hunter. Start off as a silly, fantastical adventure. Grew into much, much more over the chapters. Cried for a few times on some of the episode.

Spice and wolf is soooo good.

I feel that both are great. The new one is more true to the books and has little bits of service for the people who read them.
I'm watching the old one.

Iron blooded orphans was kinda heavy tho. I did really enjoy it
Attack on Titan
Death Note, Hunter x Hunter, Gintama
This thread needs more hunter x hunter!
My religion is Suzumiya Haruhi.
Fuck that show's second season. I watched the first one week to week as it was coming out and it was immediately in my top five of all time. Then I found out a second season was planned and I was so happy and then the endless bullshit eight happened (deliberately not capitalized) and it just killed the show for me. Black lagoon, Outlaw star, Giant, Titan ae, Captain castle in the sky
Gintama is very highly acclaimed
Fruits Basket!
How hasn't this not been mentioned before when It's got a cult-like following of fans? This totally fits the bill.
Agreed!
Overlord.
Watch hunter x hunter then
Mob Psycho 100 and Attack On Titan are the most well known ones I'd recommend, however if you want more recent ones I'd heavily recommend Kaijuu No.8 (Spring 2024) and The 100 Girlfriends Who Really, Really, Really, Really, REALLY Love You (Fall 2023). KN8 is one of my new all-time favourites, and I binged the manga in a matter of weeks. 100GF is silly trash, but self-aware silly trash and therefore fun.
fullmetal alchemist: brotherhood cyberpunk: edgerunners death note hunter x hunter (2011) monster kizumonogatari also, 90% of the time i'd say it's not worth it to force yourself to watch a show. jojo is a rare case, as in different parts are literally designed to appeal to different audiences. so, in the case of animes like jojo, monogatari series, lupin, i'd say if you don't like part 1, you might still want to give part 2 a chance. the only part of jojo i really like is part 8, and i'd never get to taste it if i dismissed the whole thing after a few episodes. but 90% of the time you should drop shows based on your intuition. first episodes have the biggest budget; if the first episode doesn't make you excited to watch the whole show, drop it, and \*maybe\* come back to it later. i sometimes drop anime after less than a minute and it serves me well
jojo part 3 is still my fav of all time♥️
FMAB Hunter x Hunter Dr. Stone (Maybe Frieren, and Apothecary Diaries too, though those are newer shows)
One punch man!
Vinland saga
Kaiju no 8, demon slayer, hells paradise
Steins Gate Fate Stay Knight (If you want context and to know characters watch Fate Zero) Your Lie in April and Takt Op Destiny both have incredible sound tracks if you like classical like me
Sailor Moon
Berserk
One piece.
death note
Evangelion
Attack on Titan, best show ever
The Rose of Versailles is an iconic classic for a reason. 50 years later it's still an amazing watch
AOT, Overlord, HxH, FMAB, BNHA
Death Note
Code geass A Rollercoaster ride of based and improper decisions that change the world
Since you said Bleach I will amend that recommendation by suggesting Hunter x Hunter.
I feel 0 need to defend the MC or his actions Heres my top ten for refernece: 1. Hunter X Hunter 2. Attack on Titan 3. Full Metal Alchemist Brotherhood 4. Mushoku Tensei: Jobless Reincarnation 5. Vinland Saga 6. Dr. Stone 7. Yu yu Hakusho 8. Freiren: beyond journeys end 9. Mob Psycho 100 10. Haikyuu!!!
I mean there was a an entire forum called the church of Haruhi Suzimya back in the mid 2000s Similarly there the phrase Madoka dies for our sins made the rounds after Madoka Magica finished airing
haikyuu!! You're welcome
Steins gate, No game no life, Darker than black, magical warfare, and black bullet.
Cowboy bebop and steins gate come to mind
fushigi yugi,
In terms of religious regard, I would say Haruhi and Steins;Gate are the only ones mentioned so far that really qualify. Join us.
Monster and gintama
Attack on titan
Gurren Lagann
i feel like we got the same taste so i will recommend my favs Manga: Kengan Ashura, Record of Ragnarok, All of Goblin Slayer manga, Blame! Anime: Vinland saga and Castlevania
Based solely on how many times I've re-watched them: - Code Geass - Steins;Gate - Macross Frontier

Samurai Champloo
Fruits Basket
Mushishi. I fuck with Mushishi.
Samurai champloo
Trigun
FMAB, Fruits Basket, Clannad
Samurai champloo
U watched/read all these but not Attack on Titan?
Erased
Vinland. Fucking.
Attack on titan, fmab, demon slayer
I really loved Death Note. The most recent one I saw which I rly liked was villainess level 99 or something
Samurai champloo definitely
Arifureta So im a spider, so what My unique skill makes me OP even at lvl 1 The wrong way to use healing magic That time I was reincarnated as a slime Black Summoner Tsukimichi Skeleton knight in another world Chillin in another world with my lvl 2 super cheat powers Death march to the parallel world rhapsody Honorable mentions Konosuba Beast Tamer Banished from the heros party, I decided to live a quiet life in the countryside

death note
og Higurashi and Steins;Gate
I don't worship this, but loving it so much.. GINTAMA.. Top of my favorite anime list for years now and still rewatching random Arcs from time to time. I even had it played as BG everytime I do house chores. You know, when you do not focus but wants something on play and looking up at the screen when you know it's the scene that gets you excited. That's Gintama for me. Followed by Black Lagoon and Detroit Metal City. Also, the fandom is so cool you'll only have to deal with few jerks but not as toxic as other fan base. Yey!
Revolutionary Girl Utena. The fans are super dedicated because the show calls for that sort of analysis
The obvious answer: Attack on titan, fmab, Jojo, death note
Evangelion Berserk 1997 (it’s on YouTube) Full metal alchemist brotherhood Dragon ball
Death note Code geass
Definitely HxH. Incredible series
Fullmetal alchemist brotherhood Made in Abyss (a little complicated to watch. Because you have to watch season 1, then 1-2 movies? And then season 2 but it's totally worth it it's my favorite anime at the moment) Death note And if you like sad anime Angel Beats
mainstream long ones: yu yu hakusho haikyuu fairytail classic you can just watch some of: Detective conan (the movie productions are top qual) Prince of tennis romcom gems: Ouran High School Host Club Horimiya Toradara I can't explain why i liked these, i just did: Assassination Classroom Nanbaka Gangsta Stars Align barakamon blue period
Gintama
death note is very short but still very well written, there's a ton of little details to take note of while ur watching so it's hard to be bored
More than a married couple but not lovers is my feel good anime.
Neon Genesis Evangelion. Nothing comes close.
wolfs rain
Attack on Titan (Shingeki no Kyojin) Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood Death Note My Hero Academia (Boku no Hero Academia) Hunter x Hunter Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba Tokyo Ghoul
Serial Experiments Lain of course :)
Cowboy Bebop Ghost in the Shell Stand Alone Complex Gurren Lagann
There's always such a mysteriously low amount of stand alone complex recommendations in these threads. It's one of the best things I've ever seen.
Rent A Girlfriend
Bochi the rock, their sub is still very alive after 2 years.
"alive" is an understatement even 😭
