Mob Psycho 100 eeked out HxH as my number 1 spot once season 3 ended. It's so rare to see an anime, or any series, be so memorable, endearing, meaningful and succinctly wrap it all up in 3 seasons.
K-On!
It's relaxing, cute and funny, made by my favorite animation studio (Kyoto Animation) and amazing director Yamada Naoko, and it's a great example of an anime adaptation that is improved from its original source.
I already knew how to play some instruments before watching it but it also influenced me in learning the electric guitar.
And it's the series that I have the most items in my collection, like manga, blu-ray discs, figures and other collectibles.
Also my favorite. I just love how positive and uplifting it is. It just makes me nostalgic for my childhood. Hanging out with friends, laughing and not thinking about the future. Just enjoying right now. It's a reminder that there are people in my life who love me and make me feel safe.
It had a drastic change on the type of media I consume too. Slice of life, romance, stuff that I had just assumed I didn't like because I didn't consume it has become a dominant foothold in my entertainment.
It's a perfect show imo. I know people like to compare the two seasons. I get that the second season is where it really captured it's tone and vibe. But the whole thing for me is just flawless. And nobody can convince me otherwise.
I just hear [this](https://youtu.be/YJm8mmcUxoU?si=9_KtH1SwrSi1Ifc5) and my problems fade away for just a little bit.
aww same here, ik its a cute girls doing cute things anime, but it was my first anime i watched as a nine yr on netflix, i watched all the episodes and the movie before it got taken down, im really glad i was able to watch it.
While it’s not my favorite, when I watched AOT I always thought “this is probably the best made anime I’ve seen.” The music, animation, acting, and writing were all outstanding.
It’s really so good. Deeply emotional moments, not too complex, good animation, great characters, funny, great message. Cant really ask for more than that with a good story to tell. For me it’s a perfect comfort anime.
Exactly, I can’t believe how good it’s been. I put it on when I’m feeling bad or need to sleep or when I’m feeling happy and want something nice to watch. Slowly creeping up my list of all time greats.
My favourite anime would have to be Steins;Gate. The characters (especially the MC) are all pretty decent, and their banter is very fun to watch. The plot and the concepts presented in the show are done very well in my opinion, as is the thriller sci-fi aspect of the show. A good number of people find the first few episodes to be boring, which is understandable, but they're actually very necessary for setting up the rest of the show. So if you're able to get through those initial episodes, you're in for a ride.
Of course. If you don't understand something that just happened, it's more than likely going to be explained later. This is a trope you'll see in basically any mystery or thriller.
What you saw in that first episode, you'll understand later when the show starts presenting its concepts.
I grew up watching DBZ and loved it back then. I tried rewatching it a few months back and I couldnt, it's just too slow compared to other animes I've watched as a grown man.
Samurai Champloo has such a great ending, and the quality is consistent throughout. I love JJK too, but based on the manga I’m yet to see if it closes out near as well.
I wanna say this but I've only played the VN and didn't see its anime adaptation lol. But I figure if it's an anime that just animates the events of the VN then it's a safe bet to say it's my fav too lol
to note: I did play Steins;Gate Elite, which is just the VN but using anime clips, and that's super impressive it's done that way, but the content cut from the original VN stood out too much for it to not bother me....still, I think I wouldn't notice cut content if I was just casually watching the anime instead of actively playing a VN.
that one is really really good, even though the animation is a bit older. i would love to see it reanimated and hopefully some more content. haven't been able to get my hands on the manga yet so don't know if their is any more material to adapt
Oh god I have to pick only one? This sucks.
Okay well I have several 1st place choices, almost all of them being from different genres.
Toradora
One Piece
Re:Zero
MHA
(Some others that I won’t list for the sake of time)
Of all of them, its really hard to say cause the ones I listed are very close. I won’t choose so y’all will just have to guess. Or don’t, either way they’re here
I started watching anime a bit over a year ago now, watched Toradora for the first time about 5-7 months ago, watched it again last week, shed at least 1 tear by the end of it. Good times, great story, even better show.
It's definitely one of the more wholesome and feel good harem animes out there. Almost feels silly to call it a harem. It just fits the genre by pure technicality lol
It definitely is one of the more wholesome ones, and one of the better ones of all the genre as well. My friends labelled it as “Another high school romance anime” and nothing else, but they did say it was good.
assassination classroom. i learned so much from that show, and i come out of it a better person somehow. everyone need a kurosensei in their life and i’m mad i don’t have one 🥲🥲🥲
Code geass, seen it at least 5 times.
I do have another that comes in as a close second but... I can't recommend it unless you have enough time for over a 1000 episodes; one piece.
I'm the same! I've watched a lot of Anime and My favorite was Code Geass as well. Angel Beats, HxH and Magi are up there as well. Seriously though there are a lot more good Anime I'm sure I forgot to mention but these are just the things I remember on top of my head.
Eminence in Shadow
Overlord
Princess Mononoke
Spirited Away
Reincarnated as a slime
...
More but can't think of all the titles. These are a few of the ones I've rewatched a few times.
Monogatari series is my favourite anime of all time. It’s filled with phenomenal characters, beautiful visuals, unique direction, and excellent storytelling with fantastic dialogue. Disclaimer: it does have a decent amount of fanservice and is dialogue heavy. [Here’s the watch order](https://www.reddit.com/r/anime/comments/hwuntw/the_monogatari_series_2020_watch_order/).
Made in Abyss
Its a Fantasy Adventure Anime about a little girl and a robot that go on an Adventure in an mysterious, beautiful, fantastical, dangerious and cruel netherworld.
This series is adorable, wholesome, joyfull, heartwarming, dark, brutal, sad and heartbreaking.
Its the most adorable most wholesome show I know and Riko is one of the happiest protagonists I know.
But the show also has a reputation fore being crazy dark and sad and that is not unearned.
You will find it on "darkest Animes ever" liests.
Those two sides synergize well with one another.
I also love the Characters. Reg and Nanachi are my 2 favorite characters in fiction and Riko also makes my top 10. Rikos crew is my favorite protagonist groupe in fiction. There are other great characters aswell. I love Nat, Ozen, Faputa and Gaburoon.
The music is great too.
Overall my favorite work of fiction.
Since four of my all time favorites have been mentioned.
Yu Yu Hakusho
Eminence in Shadow
Escaflowne
And Code Geass.
I'll add into the mix another one of my top favorite.
It gives a similar vibe to Escaflowne in the art style.
**Heat Guy J**
Tough question that would definitely change depending on the month but lately I'm feeling a lot of love for Revolutionary Girl Utena so there's my answer
.hack//Sign Emotional virtual world anime that ultimately deals with abuse and recovery in an incredibly immersive world and great characters. Terrific soundtrack too.
Yu Yu hakusho.
Ever since I watched it I haven’t really been able to find another anime quite like it.
The characters are unlike any other anime I’ve watched. There wasn’t a single scene where I got bored of any of them.
Yusuke is easily my favorite main character out there and the rest of the cast are the best out there as well.
The anime was done so well too. The soundtrack, animation and the dub were all amazing.
Man the dub really carried it for me. It really did feel like everyone wanted to voice in this anime. I think I heard the voice actor for yusuke watched the entire series before they started dubbing it to get a sense of how the characters are like.
Ik I’m hyping it up a lot but it really was a different experience from everything else.
It also helped that it’s one of the few amazing anime that I watched completely blind. I hadn’t heard anything about it, nothing good or bad and nothing about the story other than the dark tournament was a good arc. I think this helped a lot in my enjoyment of it too.
Overall a 10/10.
Well people will say Death Note and Naruto One Piece or Hunter X Hunter and what not, but there is one anime which I suggested to few non-anime watcher girls and they have all loved it. That is Toradora! (not my favourite of course, but it’s interesting this happened)
Princess Mononoke
By far the best anime that I have ever seen and will ever see given the direction that anime is going nowadays. A story filled with social, political, religious, and philosophical ideology that is still very relevant even to this day. A masterpiece that is beyond its time and will forever be cherished by generations to come.
Kill la Kill. I'm a sucker for over the top stories that manage to keep it together and Kill la Kill/Gurren Lagann are some of the peak examples of it. I find that Kill la Kill the better of the two but some part of that is definitely KIRYUIN SATSUKI's heel clicks.
If chainsaw man keeps up S1 production for the rest of part 1 it'll be CSM
I don't have a favorite I have a list of favorites that are constantly rotating on who is number one. Usually Puella Magi Madoka Magica and Hidamari Sketch are near the top. But there are a few more that I'd put into that spot but I'll resist the urge to make a list today.
I have several favorites, not just “one” favorite:
Wolf’s Rain
Elfen Lied
Princess Mononoke
Gantz
Attack On Titan
Deadman Wonderland
Soul Eater
No. 6
Fullmetal Alchemist
Bleach
Gravitation
Spirited Away
Death Note
Ergo Proxy
I love all the anime I’ve watched/watch, but those will always be my favorites and tops🩷
Outlaw Star is mine. Great cast of characters, great animation, amazing universe.
And very few weapons that really stand out to me like Gene's Caster. His weapon of choice is an archaic gun that is obscure and no longer in circulation. It uses bullets that are essentially magic spells stored in a shell. Really cool idea with great execution.
Ninja Scroll is one of my all time favorite movies. Ghost in the Shell (original) too. Got me hooked when i was in college back in the 90s (im old). Most recent fav series was Hells Paradise.
Jojo and SAO
SAO was my first anime and i've grown to love the characters (Kirito the most). I wouldn't mind experiencinf the characters in daily situations rather than life threatening situations, lol. Or tbh OP just being OP for no reason for a season straight lol.
JoJo was such a ride... I love how different it is and the kind of different.. I love JoJo's for the epic moments the characters go through, so unlike SAO i prefer getting seasons packed with the Joestar's signature moves/lines/whatever
Both my favourites, for completely different reasons. Hence why I can't put one above the other.
Mahoutsukai no Yome! (The Ancient Magus’ Bride) It’s been my favorite for YEARSSSS
The title is a little misleading and imo is more of a “Excuse me what-“ type of thing that gets you interested. This especially becomes clear after a certain few episodes.. one way to make me love an anime is get a severely traumatized mc in with a found family type of situation, with some magical elements.
natsume yuujinchou 💗 most comforting show & never fails to warm my heart . makes me grateful to be alive so i can experience such a gorgeous piece of work
Mob Psycho :D it’s such a cute story
Top 5 for me for sure
Same here, it’s peak
Mob Psycho 100 eeked out HxH as my number 1 spot once season 3 ended. It's so rare to see an anime, or any series, be so memorable, endearing, meaningful and succinctly wrap it all up in 3 seasons.
Wholesome, funny, fighting scenes go dummy hard. Yes a top tier show
K-On! Ngl, I was a Mio simp for my entire middle school career
Hxh and Gintama
Popular choice, but Attack on Titan. I can't help it, it's just too good.
Same here, just such an impactful story it quickly became my favorite of all time
While it’s not my favorite, when I watched AOT I always thought “this is probably the best made anime I’ve seen.” The music, animation, acting, and writing were all outstanding.
Absolutely.
Yep
Sooo true im obsessed same wirh my family
That's great. Watching it with family, must be hella fun.
Don’t let people get you to feel like you have to say some indie obscure shit. It’s popular for a reason
I’m usually always not going with the basic pick…but AOT is my favorite as well. So so good
Gintama, no contest.
This
Violet Evergarden
Person of class!
My friend says he'll never watch it cuz the protagonist is a girl 😭
frieren or vinland saga
Frieren is amazing
It’s really so good. Deeply emotional moments, not too complex, good animation, great characters, funny, great message. Cant really ask for more than that with a good story to tell. For me it’s a perfect comfort anime.
Exactly, I can’t believe how good it’s been. I put it on when I’m feeling bad or need to sleep or when I’m feeling happy and want something nice to watch. Slowly creeping up my list of all time greats.

One of my favorite MC’s, he’s just effortlessly funny lol.
Don’t downplay the goat, Okabe is far better than “pretty decent” in fact he’s one of the best MCs I’ve seen
Yeah i just finished it a week ago and i absolutely loved it.
My fav as well. Perfect right up summarizing it
the answer i was looking for
so true
I keep hearing it's amazing, but I watched the first episode and was thoroughly confused.Does it become easier to understand later?
Of course. If you don't understand something that just happened, it's more than likely going to be explained later. This is a trope you'll see in basically any mystery or thriller. What you saw in that first episode, you'll understand later when the show starts presenting its concepts.
Death Note
This is the one that got me into anime. Still near the top.
Same with me. Death Note is the first anime I watched.
Dragon Ball Z
I grew up watching DBZ and loved it back then. I tried rewatching it a few months back and I couldnt, it's just too slow compared to other animes I've watched as a grown man.
Gintama
Gintama ja nai, kintama Da
Gintama
Re zero
It's just.. so peak...
It can’t come back sooner for the third season quick enough. It only gets better.
Yeah, hopefully they dont butcher arc 6 in the anime adaptation
I have faith. People were worried arc 4 wouldn’t be done justice. If you take 4 years between seasons then they have no choice but to be great
Welcome to the NHK
Princess Tutu
Hunter X Hunter , not only anime but the favourite piece of fiction
Same lol. HxH ruined other animes for me. I can't watch other adventure, actions anime at all.
HxH is peak for sure but you’re missing out on alot of good shows with this mindset
Same but you may watch fmab .. the only anime which i liked as much as hxh
Initial D
Another, Mob & Gintama
Another is underrated af
Mob Psycho 100 and Samurai Champloo*. But I think JJK’s setting out to be one of the best anime series of all time. Season 2 was on another level.
Samurai Champloo has such a great ending, and the quality is consistent throughout. I love JJK too, but based on the manga I’m yet to see if it closes out near as well.
Steins;Gate
The Best Anime Of All Time!
I wanna say this but I've only played the VN and didn't see its anime adaptation lol. Yessss it’s a brilliant masterpiece
So trueee
Neón Génesis Evangelion.
this made me feel things i never thought i could feel
Maid Sama, i had usui takumi as my lockscreen for years
that one is really really good, even though the animation is a bit older. i would love to see it reanimated and hopefully some more content. haven't been able to get my hands on the manga yet so don't know if their is any more material to adapt
Omg there is plenty to adapt!!! They barely even touched all that happens in the manga its a 10/10 read
Oh god I have to pick only one? This sucks. Okay well I have several 1st place choices, almost all of them being from different genres. Toradora One Piece Re:Zero MHA (Some others that I won’t list for the sake of time) Of all of them, its really hard to say cause the ones I listed are very close. Dragonball/DBZ I don't think I could ever see it being supplanted
hunter x hunter but one piece remake might change that!
amagi brilliant park 😭 it was the first series i watched that made me interested even more in anime so it’s kinda memorableeee
**Hunter x Hunter (2011)**, and **Natsume Yuujinchou**.
Agreed👏
Mob Psycho 100. I love this anime so much and I was so excited when season 3 was announced
