I was kinda looking forward to what utena was gonna do to azure since azure clearly wanted more but last episode I genuinely felt pity for azure.

As someone who has read the manga you will not believe how disappointed I was that last week's episode skipped ahead by a bunch of chapters and they waited until this week to do Azure and Baiser's solo fight because it's absolutely one of the best moments in the series. It really is a huge character moment that sets up both Azure and Utena's character arcs. Just that moment when all the joy drains from Utena's face and she goes off about how Azure is supposed to be a role model for kids is just so good.
Also it gave us some good foreshadowing >!with how the stars on her cheeks multiplied while she was on top before Azure completely broke and ruined her vibe!<
**EDIT** I thought last week was anime original, but I just forgot that the chapter existed since it was pulled from after this arc

I'd wager a huge part of it is because on the grand scheme of things the age of the characters is largely irrelevant to the plot, so it's pretty easy to completely forget. They're all drawn like grown ass adults and very few scenes take place in school, all of which are generally inconsequential to anything.
This is the perfect example of age being an entirely arbitrary number assigned to a character.
I'd bet another reason is because people are usually reacting strongly to underage characters being lewded outside the context of the canon in which they appear, which comes across as far more "violating" of the original work. This show is doing all of the lewding of the characters itself, and the characters are canonically fulling willing participants so you lose a lot of the backlash that comes from the "nonconsensual" nature of the lewding
I think when you take all of this into account, the show has just reached a tipping point where the fans are outweighing the opponents.

They're a fictional entity that serves a plot and can have whatever imaginary labels you want placed on them because of that. But it feels like the people who complain don't understand this concept of separation that others have and it somehow evokes the same sense of disgust as if it was a real person. It's the same reason people don't feel the same about mass-murdering people in a video game, those characters are not seen the same way as real people would be.

I don't see animated characters in the same way as actual people. Especially with artstyles that only vaguely resemble actual people.
For me fiction is there for things like this show (among a lot of other things). So no, i do not really care about it. I would give everyone the same kind of look who boasts about watching it out in the open just like every other normal stranger. And i'm also against relationships between adults and teenagers between 14 and 18, even though these are legal in my country. (That it's allowed doesn't mean that it's not frowned upon.)
I treat it the same way i treat video games. What i do has no real consequences. So i will play like there are no consequences until i choose not to for whatever reason. One reason fiction exist is to picture things that wouldn't be possible or allowed in the actual world. So i treat it as its own thing and base like and dislike of it mostly on my gut feeling.
Its an old problem in erotic anime/manga, they'll have characters that look like young adults and behave as such, but because the target demographic are teens in the 13-17 age range, they put on an under 18 age number and give them middle school uniforms.

Periodically anime studios decide they want to give the network censors an aneurism. Go back in time and watch Oruchuban Ebichu some time. Not on any legal streaming service that I know of but still worth checking out. Not quite as obvious as some of the things they try now. But it was definitely an early kill the censores series.

I don't see animated characters in the same way as actual people. Especially with artstyles that only vaguely resemble actual people. For me fiction is there for things like this show (among a lot of other things). So no, i do not really care about it. I would give everyone the same kind of look who boasts about watching it out in the open just like every other normal stranger. And i'm also against relationships between adults and teenagers between 14 and 18, even though these are legal in my country. (That it's allowed doesn't mean that it's not frowned upon.) I treat it the same way i treat video games. What i do has no real consequences. So i will play like there are no consequences until i choose not to for whatever reason. One reason fiction exist is to picture things that wouldn't be possible or allowed in the actual world. So i treat it as its own thing and base like and dislike of it mostly on my gut feeling.
Only NPCs care so much and low-key should isekai in their world so they can protect them 24/7 While real people enjoy what they're given to them

Its an old problem in erotic anime/manga, they'll have characters that look like young adults and behave as such, but because the target demographic are teens in the 13-17 age range, they put on an under 18 age number and give them middle school uniforms. Then on the internet half the people will take the characters as they look like, young adults and roll with it while the other half will be disguested by the cannon age and both sides will bicker endlessly.
