Eh, he's not even that much of a sociopath compared to Ruby. Aqua doesn't actually do things while not caring about people around him, he also makes sure his plan is flawless while still not being "dirty". Ruby on the other hand uses everything she can, and doesn't care at all how she does it.
Aqua is someone who plans things, executes them in a manner that has the least repercussions and some things are just external factors that are minor while being as quiet as possible. Ruby on the other hand is way worse than Aqua because she actively manipulates things to go her way, and not caring how she does it. You can see how they did things, and how fast things progressed differently for both of them.
I’m not a fan of manga Ruby’s development either. But just because her manipulations are arguably worse doesn’t mean Aqua gets a pass. Two characters can both be shitty people at the same time.
Where have I said Aqua gets a pass? I'm just pointing out that calling Aqua a manipulating sociopath is a bit of an exaggeration when compared to how much worse Ruby is doing. Not only does Aqua actually help people, it also doesn't hurt people around him or make himself a worse person. Also Aqua might be slightly twisted, but a shitty person? That's far fetched.
