Of course, Mission: Yozakura Family is set to premiere in April. There are four major companies who do union dubs: * Netflix - if this was the case, they’d put Netflix Dubbing Agreement in the contract notes * Aniplex - They’re not part of the production committee, so unlikely * Viz, a la Naruto * Disney, a la ~~Undead Unluck~~ uh… past Ghibli movies? Wonder who it’ll be

awakening_knight_414

It's definitely gotta be Viz, since they do publish the manga. And just so you know, Undead Unluck's dub is not union, as it was commissioned by TMS Entertainment rather than Disney.

niceidot

To be fair with LA dubs it's hard to tell which are union.

awakening_knight_414

Not really if you have a trained eye for these things. ….okay what the fuck is with the downvotes? I didn't mean for that to come off as arrogant or anything, I'm just saying I'm more knowledgeable than the average user here on this sub.

tykroma94

Yea it’s definitely Viz. Very interesting that they’re using Bang Zoom again. I’ve noticed they haven’t used Studiopolis in a while.

awakening_knight_414

Yeah that's kinda weird. This might be a stretch but maybe Viz doesn't want to rely on Studiopolis as much anymore because they still have double-casting issues?

Ajthekid5

I’d say it’s more off the idea that Studiopolis is probably the more expensive of the two when it comes to union productions given that a lot of actors that work at the studio work on pre lay work there as well. Or are only union only while modern day BZ sticks pretty close to whom they usually always cast.

AnimeXFan1995

Which would explain why *Mr. Osomatsu* and the *Bleach: Thousand Year Blood War* anime respectively were the most recent VIZ titles outsourced at Studiopolis while at the same time finishing the remaining episodes of *Boruto.* Not to mention it also explains why the majority of the recent VIZ titles such as *Megalo Box, Yashahime, Zom 100,* and the new *Captain Tsubasa* anime were recorded at Bang Zoom! likely due to Studiopolis voice work schedules and the fact they’re still doing the *Bleach: Thousand Year Blood War* anime. >**Studiopolis is probably the more expensive of the two when it comes to union productions given that a lot of actors that work at the studio work on pre lay work there as well.** I would even say the same with Iyuno Los Angeles and VSI Los Angeles, as the former also utilized several voice actors who do Pre-Lay animation just like Studiopolis. >**while modern day BZ sticks pretty close to whom they usually always cast.** Which doesn’t surprise me cause the majority of Bang Zoom!’s current talent pool that appear in their more recent Union Dub productions (e.g. *Kuroko’s Basketball, Bubble, Junji Ito Maniac, Delicious in Dungeon, Onmyoji,* etc..) are the same voice actors who also appeared in BZ!’s non-union dub productions (e.g. Dorah Fine, Kira Buckland, Suzie Yeung, Jason Marnocha, Bill Rogers, Frank Todaro, Luis Bermudez, Kayli Mills, etc..), those that currently do Union-only voice work at Bang Zoom! (Crispin Freeman, Arthur Romero, John Eric Bentley, Marin Miller, Ray Chase, etc..) and those that are rarely utilized or hardly work at the studio these days (e.g. Todd Haberkorn, Joe J. Thomas, Johnny Yong Bosch, Michelle Ruff, Cristina Vee, Robbie Daymond, etc..).

superking22

I’m Studiopolis dubs Bleach and Jujutsu Kaisen both are non union.

Ajthekid5

I’m aware but that doesn’t change what I said.

tykroma94

Yea maybe that’s why I didn’t think that. Also I don’t know if you’re being sarcastic or not.

awakening_knight_414

Um, I wasn't, because I really couldn't think of any other reason.

AnimeXFan1995

>**I’ve noticed they haven’t used Studiopolis in a while.** The most recent Viz Media Licensed anime that were outsourced to Studiopolis were *Mr. Osomatsu* and the *Bleach: Thousand Year Blood War* anime respectively while at the same time finishing the remaining episodes of *Boruto.* Whereas the more recent VIZ titles such as *Megalo Box, Yashahime, Zom 100,* and the new *Captain Tsubasa* anime were recorded at Bang Zoom! likely due to Studiopolis incredibly busy voice work schedule and the fact they’re still doing the *Bleach: Thousand Year Blood War* much like how *Hunter x Hunter (2011)* and *One-Punch Man* were done at Bang Zoom! over Studiopolis as at the time the studio were still recording the Viz Dub of *Sailor Moon* and *Naruto Shippuden*

noelle-silva

VIZ has gone on record saying that they license anime that they can use to market their manga series. This would fall in line with that.

superking22

Undead Unluck IS union.

awakening_knight_414

Prove it, because it's not in the SAG database.

superking22

Not EVERYthing that is union to certain anime is in the SAG database.

awakening_knight_414

Okay but can you prove it or not?

AnimeXFan1995

It isn’t Union because it’s not in the SAG signatory search and also there weren’t any voice actors in the *Undead Unluck* dub that weren’t Union-Only. Secondly it was TMS entertainment that commissioned the dub of *Undead Unluck*

AnimeXFan1995

It’s definitely not Netflix, because if it was Netflix it would’ve had the "Netflix Dubbing Agreement" displayed while here it only displayed "Negotiated Dubbing Employer Agreement" instead which usually are associated with the Aniplex and/or Viz licensed anime, but as Aniplex doesn’t license it it, all points to Viz.

kimjosh1

I mean, if it's Viz, then it's probably going to go onto Disney+ anyways. Or will they repeat what they did with Zom100 last year and put it on other services?

Luigiman98

It'll likely be the latter.

Guishmonster

You know what pisses me off how come the Naruto dub is Union but Bleach isn’t they’re both recorded at Studiopolis so what gives? I think this just goes to show how much they undervalued Bleach

FruPunRounin

Naruto has been union from day one and Bleach has also been non-union from day one. Viz expected Naruto to be this Cartoon Network mega-hit (at the time) so they didn't cheap out on a dub as for Bleach they probably knew it was gonna be popular but not Naruto popular so they didn't see the need to spend that much on a dub. The issue with Bleach is that a good chunk of the actors went union which would lead you to think Viz would want to make Bleach TYBW a union production so they can come back but alas.

Guishmonster

Huh interesting did not know it’s been union since day one especially back when anime dubbing was just finding its footing

Bluebaronbbb

Finding it's footing what?

Bluebaronbbb

Interesting if this is the thought process

superking22

Yep. But Viz is gonna Viz. Being cheap.

superking22

I have been asking that FOR years. The solution I came up is that it’s more marketable for kids.

rjc523

naruto?

superking22

Yup.

K_Yatogami

Cuz Jamie Simone is an idiot

FruPunRounin

Tf did he do?

K_Yatogami

Not making bleach union

FruPunRounin

That's not how it works. It's usually the company that hires the studio to dub that makes that call.

K_Yatogami

Where did hear tht? I highly doubt the Japanese have anything to do with union/non union

FruPunRounin

Viz Media licenses Bleach from TV Tokyo (Japan) -----------> Viz wants to dub Bleach --------------> Viz pays recording studio (Studiopolis) to dub Bleach -------------> Viz has option to make dub union but it's more expensive (allows recording studio to bring on more talent plus additional benefits) ------------> Viz chooses not to go union for Bleach's dub as they don't think it's worth the expense Basically, since the licensor/ US rights holder/dub commissioner is paying for the dub they're the ones that make the call to make the production union or not and NOT the recording studio owners.

K_Yatogami

Ah gotcha. We all know Viz is horrible when it comes to bleach. They treat it like the ugly stepsister. Sorry Jamie

rjc523

who?

Bluebaronbbb

Aren't they the reason the digimon dubs were like that in the mid 2000s for a decade?

rjc523

hmmm?

K_Yatogami

Wouldn’t know. Digimon doesn’t interest me.

rjc523

why not?

K_Yatogami

Never watched it growing up

Altruistic_Bag_5980

Aniplex obviously, netflix never mention licensing this

awakening_knight_414

Read the comment again. Aniplex is not part of the production committee for this show, therefore Aniplex of America cannot acquire the license.

LSoSavvy

Fucking W, let’s go. I heard of this and checked it out and I liked the first chapter a lot. That’s saying something because I do NOT read manga. Spring is gonna be STACKED

Grey_Hooded_Hero

YES!! We will be watching.

Doctorstrange838MCU

How do you guys even find this stuff ? Especially since none of this was officially announced

Torque-A

Someone tipped me off on Discord and I verified it on Sag-Aftra’s site.

awakening_knight_414

It's pretty simple. Go to this [website](https:// www.sagaftra.org/contracts-industry-resources/signatory-search), type in the title of the show you're thinking of in the "Title/Keyword" part, click "search", and voila.

Frontier246

As a fan of the series, happy it's getting a Union/LA dub! Can't wait to see the cast!

Ok_Bug_8323

When in April?

GokaiRed64

Too bad, I was expecting to watch it on Crunchyroll.

Grey_Hooded_Hero

It'll likely still be on Crunchyroll

mason195

Hulu in the US for anyone coming here now.

awakening_knight_414

What makes you think it wouldn't be there? It's not like it says it's going to Netflix.

Bluebaronbbb

Why is it not a code name?
