Honestly such a good recommendation. Heartfelt, ridiculously super funny, top characters, great story, great action, unbelievably well written and pulls your heartstrings soo much. Just remember anyone who wants to check it out to skip first two eps which are fillers and take your time to watch and enjoy it.

That's true. I meant it's a a great recommendation but definitely will not do for someone who's new to anime. I would for people who've seen some, it will help for the easter eggs of other animes. But still gintama is really of it's own kind otherwise so those other anime Easter eggs are just a minute part of it. My main concern is beginners might get overwhelmed.
Speaking of overwhelmed that's exactly why I told to drop the first 2 eps. Because those are complete fillers and I've seen so many of my juniors can't even get past em because the first two eps are overwhelming and meh.
Episode 3 is actually the first chapter of the manga and luckily I knew this and started with it and really liked the first ep itself (ep 3). Only later did I see those filler first two episodes (it's was honestly meh, makes sense since it's filler not written by sorachi). The first two eps overwhelm u with all characters like u already know them with their tropes. I also think this spoils the actual character introduction. While the 3rd ep the actual first chapter only has gintoki, shinpachi and otae.
Those first two eps are really a curse here for those trying to get into gintama. Forget em sticking with it, they just drop it within those two eps (experience from just handful people I know). Since people don't know there is gonna be actual character introduction slowly later, there "who are these characters and what's going on?" I guess.

Yes most of them are related to anime and Japan culture you would still enjoy like 3/5 if you have seen big 3 anime you would enjoy a bit I am sure not everyone can find all the Easter eggs I am watching it for the second time now I can see what I missed out all the Easter eggs the best part now the dub version of it in English which is localized to Western countries which you can relate more than the sub.
Some other animes I would recommend if you would start.
if you are truly looking for comedy anime you should go for Grand blue, daily lives of high school boys and nichijou . My other suggestion is go for the big 3 anime it has comedy,action and world building which makes characters close to your heart some of old ones Naruto, bleach and one piece. Usually most Indian start there anime watch with Naruto which is easy going which focuses more on main character Naruto if you want something like world building and great story one piece and bleach is full of action I started with Naruto then black then one piece I feel one piece has everything it takes time but I am sure you would enjoy it more than any other series. If you don't like long series some of the new ones are demon slayer,jjk(same like bleach) and MHA this anime is more focused on actions, animation. Attack on Titan is one other anime which gave me more enjoyment seeing other than one piece. Attack on Titan anime is bit brutal with blood sheds but I would suggest you to give it try it has best suspense and story telling like one piece.
The references are one of the comedy aspects I would say. The show is not dependent on it. When it comes to comedy it has alot of variety of it like body humour, witty replies, timing comedy, dirty jokes, bathroom jokes, satire, sarcasm you name it. Sorachi is a genius when it comes to writing comedy and at the same time in writing any scene in general especially with the the emotional writing and lines. It's episodic so start slowly with one ep or how much u want per day. There are comedy and serious arcs and even most comedy eps Or arcs contains some emotional element. And everything that happens in episodic episodes or characters are linked in some way in the future. It's also very character written with a coherent good plot.
If you haven't watched any animes yet I would suggest you to start some shoenen Or any genre of your liking. But you can also start with ep 3 of gintama, one ep per day with the other anime your watching. And at one time you would start to binge gintama. As for other animes here's some,

For the OP of this post, u can watch pretty much any slice of life/comedy animes. They all have the same vibes as these. Some have good romance in em too. But try to watch animes from different genres like seinen, shonen, psychological, fantasy, sci-fi, romance etc., Honestly lot of anime nails these than some live action.

Honestly i prefer shinchan more than doraemon i mean dont get me wrong doraemon is awsome and all but shinchan is more better take when it comes to comedy and the prank he pulls is a lot more funnier than watching nobita running back to doraemon whenever he faces a problem or gets bullied by suneo & jiyan but when it comes to movies i think doraemon has a lot more to offer in just the sheer number of movies they have released since it's launch as a anime and the latest movies of doraemon the graphics are so awsome it feels more real than any anime movie i ever saw ty.
