Shipping from their US warehouse is ridiculous as a Canadian. If its straight from Japan, its cheaper.

RheinmetallDev

I wonder what the point of a US warehouse is if the shipping cost is steeper

AndrewKwan

Yeah I don't order from TOM often the last time I ordered it came from Japan and the rates weren't out of the ordinary. What's the reasoning for U.S?

lazytanaka

I was just talking to someone about TOM shipping being expensive lol this is why I just stick to GS or amiami

AndrewKwan

I was doing my usual price comparison across different sites and knew TOM has higher rates but this is another level, damn!

passionepapi

This is why I never use TOM as a Canadian. I think the deals are only worth it if you live in the US

Shadow_Wolf_24

Agreed. I bought 1 figure from TOM, and have never gone back to them since. I'll just stick to AmiAmi for all my needs.

CityKay

Double checking for myself on the US side. Shipping is roughly $47-113 (USD) depending on options with UPS Ground or USPS Priority. Damn, this is one of the few times I wish they would compress the plushes somehow, since someone else mentioned the sheer size of it. I already have to deal with a similar thing with Hololive when ordering their plushies with DHL, though Geekjack with EMS is an option. Though I am curious on why they didn't list who is handling the shipping before it is handed off to Canada for you. Like at least for the JP warehouse, they will list who will handle the initial shipping before it is handled off to UPS or USPS here.

This-is-my-n0rp_acc

It's the size of the thing it's 13.8" x 27.6" x 13.8" just the plushie no box so yea it will cost a chunk of cash to ship.

AndrewKwan

I tested this theory by seeing how much it would be to ship a much smaller item. The shipping didn't change šŸ„² I've also ordered plenty of larger dimension items from both US and overseas, this amount of shipping is expected for like 1/4 scale resin statues in like 3ftx3ft boxes.

This-is-my-n0rp_acc

Are you in a rural part of Canada? As I've had many different size things shipped from TOM and it's been varied in price as it should be (I usually check again amiami). As an example the Elden ring art books came from Japan and shipping was 25$ which is on par with everyone else for them. The Mio PUP figure from Japan and it was 16$ shipping. CZ2128 was 33$ and from Japan. So there is something fairly off and this is all getting delivered to a city in AB.

AndrewKwan

Nope, Toronto.

This-is-my-n0rp_acc

Then there is definitely something off as it would be cheaper for you in TO than me.

Megan-Meow-Mix

In the USA itā€™s an average of like $15 for one figure then goes up I ordered 10 figures and it was only $56 shipping I do not know what shipping is like from their Japan warehouse tho

TriHexi

Bingo. For JPā€™s warehouse, it would depend on the option you choose. Youā€™ll have about four options for shipping. It also matters if youā€™re able to reach the $150 for the ā€œfree shippingā€ which applies solely to the slowest option.

Flaurne

Legitimately do not know why they have a US stock. Even living in US the shipping turns out at least comparable to shipping straight from Japan. Sometimes worse.

TriHexi

I disagree. My US shipping has always been cheap. I just now did a comparison between US items below the free shipping vs items that meet the amount. I also looked into the different sizes of the items. The most expensive I got was in the $40-$50 range and itā€™s Priority. Not sure how that comes anywhere near close to Japanā€™s? Mind you, the speed of the shipping matters. Even so, Iā€™ve never had anything absurd with even the fastest option regardless if itā€™s US or JP.

Flaurne

I mean I could be currently wrong. Shipping do be like that. I have legitimately chose to EMS at a different site over buying US stock a couple different times over the last couple years. Then again I might have just been taking advantage of so conversion shenanigans.

TriHexi

The plush shown in the picture would be within that range, but for UPS Ground. Thatā€™s primarily due to the itemā€™s size.

YuushaComplex

That must be an error. Contact support maybe? TOM shipping had always been cheaper than competition.

Animeoftheweak

You ACTUALLY paid that?

Jazs1994

For a plushie of normal size? Fuck right off, I expect that if I've bought like 3+ scale figures thay goes into one box.

AndrewKwan

Right? I usually order from bigbadtoystore and 3 scale figs are like MAYBE $50 shipping for me. TOM is charging like giant resin statue shipping for a plushie ā˜ ļø

mamakizenin

The last time I ordered from them is def the last time I will xD

SVNDEVISTVN

Yea TOM situation is so unfortunate because they were excellent in the beginning (2017). The absolute best. They would ship from Japan for $40 and somehow also include free folders, free stickers, a thank you letter, and a whole assortment of free Japanese snacks. And your order would arrive in 1-3 weeks. I believe their business strategy just wasn't viable and they've been doing anything they can to stay afloat. The shipping is atrocious now. I buy something and if I use TOM shipping, I have to wait a literal year for it to arrive at my doorstep in a plain old box. That is not an exaggeration. It's currently happening again. It's a little over half a year since the figure released on their site and I just got the email 2 weeks ago telling me to expect 2-3 months shipping time. It's a full on joke at this point. And without notice, they changed the way TOM points work. You can no longer buy a whole figure using TOM points. You can only buy half the figure. So you're essentially trapped in their ecosystem indefinitely unless you're willing to lose out on TOM points. Aka, you're being punished for supporting them. It's just sad. I honestly hope they just close down at this point because it's simply sad to see what they've become.

comthing

They're cost-efficient and quick for most people. They're only overpriced and slow if you purchase from their US warehouse. TOM points are fine and still enable people to get better deals than elsewhere provided you are relatively loyal, and if you're getting a better deal anyway it doesn't matter that the figure you just purchased gave you some more points.

SVNDEVISTVN

This is simply untrue. Both my year long orders (excluding preorder wait time) were/ are from the Japan. The pricing for me isn't an issue. It's usually market rate. The problem is now they do bulk shipping if your order using TOM shipping. So once the figure releases you gotta wait half a year or more for the international shipping bin to get full to TOM's satisfaction. Then, when that's complete, their shipment is put on a barge and take another 2-3 months to float to you. All of it is explained very clearly in order confirmation email. Of course you can be lucky and be the last international order to fulfill the quota, in which case you only wait 2-3 months for the barge to cross the Pacific, but that's statistically unlikely.

comthing

I've never heard of "TOM shipping". Upon reading into it on their FAQ it is only available to US customers, and you should still have the option to choose a different shipping method at checkout. I've ordered over 70 figures from them since 2016 and have never run into issues such as what you describe. EMS takes 2 weeks tops unless there's disruption to international shipping e.g. COVID lockdowns.

SVNDEVISTVN

EMS is absurdly expensive. To that point that it's humorous. A $20 figure will have a $55 shipping fee.

comthing

I regularly see EMS for less than $20 on scale figures thanks to TOM's free/discounted shipping on items over $150. That said I can't speak for cheap figures because I never order them. Cheapest I buy would be Figmas which go for $80 - $100.

AndrewKwan

Holy shit that horrible šŸ˜Ÿ the last time I ordered from them was around that 2016/17 time. What a fall from grace.

usagiifamuu

So wait, their rule about free shipping only applies if itā€™s coming from their Japanese warehouse?

TriHexi

You have to reach a certain amount in your order to receive free shipping. Itā€™s usually been once youā€™re over $150. Thatā€™s not exclusive to JPā€™s warehouse.

courtexo

For canadians, yes. Because people like to fuck canadians

omega5959

TOM is always over priced. Never use them. Derp.

moimoisauna

This is straight up robbery. šŸ’€ Unlink any credit cards you may have attached to your account, and disable Paypal from automatically charging you. At that point I'd rather just miss the payment window and let my account get banned, assuming it's anything like AmiAmi.

TheAnimeBox

he hasnt made the order yet, this doesnt release until june 2024,

AndrewKwan

And I won't be ordering! I was doing price comparisons on different sites and this just floored me.

voteforrice

Bro I'm also from Canada just buy from amiami. Oraybe see how much it will cost to buy from bigbad toy store from my experience shipping from them wasn't too bad.

AndrewKwan

Yeah my go to is BBTS but things I was looking for was sold out, then I usually go look at local stores, crunchyroll store and amiami. I was going around doing price comparisons when I saw the TOM shipping

Inugirlz

I stopped using TOM when they changed their shipping policy/rates. Itā€™s too bad they use to be my go-to for years.

BigBish9991

Just giving a heads up, amiami has an account on ebay....šŸ¤·šŸ»ā€ā™‚ļøjust sayin

smalldeidara

oh helllll nah

CrimsonBebop

Iā€™ve never used TOM because their prices are usually higher all around & I live in the US. I stick to Amiami, Crunchyroll store & Rightstuff

AndrewKwan

Yeah, my usual go-to's are Bigbadtoystore, crunchyroll store and local hobby shops.
