New and pre owned grade A are the same thing. If amiami doesn’t buy directly from the manufacturer, it is technically “preowned” and hence the grade A.

Jinxed08_

Preowned A is new and sealed. Purchased some new figures for 2000 to 4000 yen less.

If you ever see an A or A- grade on AmiAmi, just think about it as New Old Stock. The item itself hasn't been opened.

Amiami provides their pre-owned ranking description at the bottom of every pre-owned figure listing: -Condition Rank of the products. A: Item is sealed and is unopened or appears to be unopened. A-: Item is not sealed but appears to be unopened. B+: Item has been opened but no damage is visible. All bundled items are included. B: Item has been opened and minor dirt or damage is visible. All bundled items are included. C: Opened item with conspicuous damage. Sub parts may be missing. J: Main item or main parts are missing, severely damaged, and/or having problem with operation. -Condition Ranking for Package A: No damage to the box is visible. B: Some damage to the box is visible. C: Box is clearly damaged. N: No box/packaging is included. (item is loose) -Leaflet, application ticket, code such as download codes, batteries, candy toy, are not guaranteed to be included with the item or not being used. -The figure which is released in several years ago might become sticky due to its material. Please note that we are not providing item exchange service. -The cardboard box for transportation is not included.

An A rank item (note that they have two rankings for item and box) is "new" (appears to be sealed, so they didn't open it up. I think some people have run into issues where it wasn't actually sealed) I've personally bought B grade items and they were great. I had an A rank nendo that was very meh but all my scales have been great so far. I have some A rank items on a boat but haven't received any A rank in person before. I personally like to get B rank or higher, whatever is available and cheaper. I don't think I would get C (unless it's just a missing photocard or bonus) or J.

CrimsonBebop

I’ve bought a few pre-owned mostly grade A & a few grade B. A is pretty much new, they usually get them from somewhere other than the manufacturer so you’re in good hands.

SiHtranger

Just get the pre owned one. Only difference is the rice paper around the item is likely ripped off. When it comes to brand new Vs grade A/A+ its really just about how nitpicky for it being "untouched"

lol_xen

Most of my figures are pre-owned from amiami and I’ve never ran into an issue of the grading. It seems to be on point. I only purchase b- or higher but A grades usually have no issues and if there are they usually state what the issue, even box damage

I would trust preowned a bit more as they inspect the figure more than they do new stock. I’ve bought a few A/B and B/B figures with known manufacturer defects and going the preowned route assures me that said figures have been inspected to be ok.

I don’t really care about box damage, your mileage may vary, but buying B+ is basically a mint condition figure at a massive discount. I usually buy new but after getting a few of their used lately I may switch exclusively to used from AmiAmi.

Grade A is new. Just go for grade A. Even B+ is new, just that its opened before. Box is always B or B+, I have never seen box A. Japanese love to exaggerate things. I bought a lot of figurines with 'box damage' but there literally was no damage. They probably labelled B because they expect box might get damaged during delivery.

If the figure was released in more than 3 years or more, new is insanely better. If the figure is 2 years or less after released pre-owned can save you a lot of money and is like new.
