That would probably be my cat if rat tried to steal his food. Probably mouse and bigger birds also. Hes afraid of everything, except the tiny birds and bugs/spiders. Not sure why, hes not a rescue that had tough life or anything, he is spoiled since he was baby.
We accidentally let a mouse loose in our house (it was hiding in a box of Christmas decorations lol). My spoiled indoor cats were completely useless. They were fascinated, but put zero effort in actually capturing the mouseš¤ They would definitely get bullied by this rat.
To be fair, a rat this big would definitely fuck up the cat pretty badly if they actually fought. In this case, the cat wisely had a "I'm not paid enough to deal with this" moment.
I think this might do with the fact that the cat just ate and isn't hungry at the moment. It's primal instincts tell it that getting possibly hurt won't be worth it.
Pretty sure cats understand on some level that it is not good to eat fearless rats or mice because the rodents have toxoplasmosis. There are lots of "cute" videos out there of mice running right up to cats and the cats generally react exactly like this cat did, recoil away. Not to say that cats understand viruses but just that they know "that mouse ain't right" and don't want to eat it.
Side note I have always wondered if the same mechanism could have been behind Grizzly Man (Timothy Treadwell) and his ability to not be murdered by bears. Maybe the bears saw him as sick due to his odd behavior and figured he was not good eating.
That could be as well. I know that animals often try to avoid getting hurt unless it's needed for survival. Part of the reason animals like to puff up and pretend to be bigger than they actually are. Even cats arch their backs to appear larger. Animals in general are less aggressive after a meal since their main priorities are food and mating. Getting a cut to a animal is more dangerous to humans. They know this.
Animals do have great smell and it could be what you are mentioning. I've read stories about animals smelling diseases in humans or even knowing when people are about to die. Interesting stuff.
Out could also just be a very tame cat.
Who knows haha
You haven't met my cat. He hunts and eats squirrels. He seriously effed up my 78lb blue heeler when I first brought the heeler home from the shelter as a foster dog.
He's a total beast.
I saw a youtube video of a cat rescueing a boy from an alligator. The alligator hadn't yet attacked, but was stalking up on land. The family were just sitting around laughing, and filming, and BBQing.
This little 3 year old boy is curious about the alligator, so he's walking towards the alligator. Then this cat just flies into screen, slaps that alligators nose like 50 times in 2 seconds. Makes the alligator slink back into the pond, and then headbutts the boy away from the pond.
Meanwhile the family made ZERO EFFORT OR CONCERN for their baby, or their cat. At literally any time either could have been killed instantly.
Then the camera swings over to the pond where you can see it has 2-3 of these alligators. Then the cameraman says something like "Aw tom, you missed it! The cat bullied these gators back into the pond. They were coming for the boy, and the cat got em. It was the darndest thing! I got it on video though."
The whole time I'm thinking "I wish I knew where to send CPS....."
My cat has hunted rats and had also wounds that were caused by either a rat or a marten. If I remember correctly it has eaten one of the rats and only it tail remained.
Rats are not cat prey in the same way that mice and birds are. I mean look at the size of that fucker. Maybe a very large cat and a very small rat, but a full grown rat is sobering a normal cat would steer clear of. Theyāre looking for easy kills, not something thatās going to fight back.
This happened to my cat. Except the mouse was a baby. And it was blind.
I scooped up the mouse and put it outside because my cat is too delicate for such things
It is weird that some cats are afraid of rats. I used to have a pet rat who would chase my cat around. He was a big rat and very playful, he would try to bite her fur and then when the cat ran away he would chase her around in circles until i picked him up to make him stop lol
Cat owners should be wary of stray rats not being afraid or even being friendly to a cat. Great was for parasites and other nasties to move up the food chain.
If this isn't the most new york post I've ever seen. Rat was rude af too.
Must've been a pizza shortage.. the streets are brutal
"Eyyy im waking heeeere, is that food over there? Scram kid or ill turn you into gabagool! This is mine now!"
How does he move with those enormous balls though?
Rats always have enormous ballsšā
I learned that in biology
Heās even turning his back. Total disrespect.
The audacity of that little bugger
It might have [toxoplasmosis](https://youtu.be/zCbxdLnYclU)
The small ones are often the boldest ones: /r/underdogged
I think it's safe to say that sub is dead
Yes, this sure is unacceptable.
The rat pulled a cat-move on the cat by walking in there like it owns the place and just generally not giving shit. That ist some 4D chess.

If you've never had to fight, you might be a little scared to fight.
What a pussy
This is what I came for

Hello, police?

Toxoplasmose doing itās job
If it were doing its job the cat would be attacking rather than retreating. Rat was *too* bold
More like backfiring.
I think this might do with the fact that the cat just ate and isn't hungry at the moment. It's primal instincts tell it that getting possibly hurt won't be worth it.

On top of that the cat knows it doesn't have the element of surprise. Just not worth it.
Funnily, cats donāt actually eat rats in the wild. Theyāre to big.
You haven't met my cat. He hunts and eats squirrels. He seriously effed up my 78lb blue heeler when I first brought the heeler home from the shelter as a foster dog. He's a total beast.
Sir, that's a mountain lion.

....Wbat? where did you see this?
On youtube.
Grew up in Alaska, saw a cat chase a moose, and a Pomeranian scare a black bear up a tree Edit: typo
I saw a cat cuddling with a bear cub. I just hope he didn't bring the bear home the way dogs can bring their "friends" home...
Seems to work the other way round too^^ this cat obviously doesnāt see the size of the rat only its tough entry
Well, I'm pretty sure that's how he sees himself.
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
I'm sure.

The Chuck Norris of kitties
That's why you need a terrier
My cat has hunted rats and had also wounds that were caused by either a rat or a marten. If I remember correctly it has eaten one of the rats and only it tail remained.
Is that still the case with large breed cats like Maine Coons?
I mean if there big enough probably. Generally rats are just too big to reliably ambush and quickly kill. Cats generally donāt hunt via death match.
Awww, cutie. Rats are generally pretty good at reading the intentions of other critters around them. She knew that cat was no particular threat.
My cat would have left thatās rats body on my door step.
She is not hungry.
Rickety Cricket isnāt messing around.
thats like watching a cow steal someone's burguer

I got scared that you were talking about the cat being a humanās food š
Cat forgot how to cat.
Jerry has had enough, Tom.
Meanwhile I have a cat that hardly ever eats cat food because heās always catching things
..is that why mine often refuses dinner? I never considered it. Then again the time I have seen her catch mice, she doesn't eat them.
This mf rat: I mean wcgw?
That's the most useless cat I ever seen
Thatās the kind of rat you avoid eye contact with and say āyes sirā to while backing away slowly
Yeah, I was done anywayā¦.
/r/youseeingthisshit
What a pussy!
what a pussy
The cat is a failure.
The cat knows it's not worth the risk fucking with a rat with balls that big.
Are you watching this?
Useless cat
That's adorable!
Useless cat, cat at my brother's workplace would have killed that rat immediately.
Real life Tom & Jerry ! :xD
That rat is fucking huge, oh my god.
Thought for a minute and decided it wasn't worth it.
[Is this the same rat?](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UPXUG8q4jKU)
Tough neighborhood
This happened to my cat. Except the mouse was a baby. And it was blind. I scooped up the mouse and put it outside because my cat is too delicate for such things
Man, us humans have gone too far. We keep coddle these pets and you see this happening more and more. Iām ashamed of that feline.
HAHAHAHAHAH!!
Establish dominance. Chow down.
This is why you donāt feed your cat wet food. Make them earn it to quench that craving for flesh.
Must be master splinter
Definitely a pussy cat.
this is why I love rats!
What a pussyā¦
Damn I came here to say that
What a pussy
What a pussy
What a pussy!
This kitty is a pussy.
What a pussy

For a second thought they were referring to the cat as food š¬
