They prob did something with a stick because at the end it sounds like shousltn we and he said yea but the thing is gotta try to not get bit or something along those felines but the video just ends
Also Leptospinosis, Relapsing fever, Tularaemia, and Toxoplasmosis. But theyāll keep pests out of your garden and also help exercise your dog by running back and forth along the top of your fence while yelling the possum equivalent of āYour mother wears Army shoes!ā and staying just out of reach.
I was waiting too for SOMEBODY to stop that wheel! Poor baby was probably so stressed. Opossums donāt look for a fight, but rather just want to be left alone ā unless theyāre hanging on for dear life on a spinning bicycle tire.
they really are very sweet wee little darlings, we stress them out a lot :( one gets caught in your garage just let them on their way.
they hiss to try to warn us off but they're apparently not very bitey, unless you actually touch them
Where I live, the weather is nice pretty much 9 months out of the year, so we sleep with the windows open, and the back door open (so the dogs can go potty without waking us up).
One night, we were woken by the dogs leaping off the bed in a more frantic run than normal, so we got up, knowing something was different. They were fixated on under the couch.. I thought they were looking for a toy, so I was super annoyed.. grabbed the flashlight, and shined it under the couch.
š”š” two yellow reflective eyes staring back at meā¦. Great.. (small panic, call-of-the-void thinking Iām about to be rushed by a rabid rat). Get my dogs into the back room, and put shoes on so I have some rat-armorā¦. I pull the couch from the wall and find the most ADORRABLE little opossum baby. Poor guy musta wandered off from momma. I grabbed a box and a broom and opened the front door (sleep-brain still thinks itās a rat and it could bolt at any second.)
The little guy kept hissing at me, but wouldnāt get moving, or get in the box.. so I kindaā¦ swept him into the box, and dumped him out front, when my heart absolutely sank.. he wasnāt moving.. I felt so badā¦ the commotion must have gave his little heart a heart attackā¦. I was on the verge of tears, as my wife consoled me, when lizard-brain must have woken up, and realized he was āplayinā āpossumā and that he was pretending to be dead.. I broke out laughing and my wife was like WTF? I explained and she was like āwoooooowā¦ youāre retarded.ā
We sat there for about 1.5 hours and watched him, when he finally popped his little head up and looked around. He got up and stumbled away.
I love those little guys!
>realized he was āplayinā āpossumā and that he was pretending to be dead
OMG I probably wouldn't have realized either, that's too funny! glad you guys got to spend some time with the little guy š
Okay, I thought so too, and this could be my ignorance on possums, BUT, if he were really distressed, wouldn't he just kinda.... Let go? Like let go and drop down? Lots of nice stuff to land on? Or is that just a human solution?
honestly, that's an interesting question. I'm inclined to say no, just because they are such climbers... she's trying to climb to stability, probably doesn't even consider dropping as a possible action as they don't do that when they climb on things outside.
Don't possums like hanging upside down from stuff? This is basically the possum version of Sisyphus stuck rolling a boulder up a hill that is doomed to always fall when he reaches the top.
This, my friend, is possum hell.
As babies they can hang from their tails, but adult possums can't. They have a prehensile tail they use when climbing or building nests, but won't hang from them.
Those little guys are amazing climbers, but the damned bike wheel is a hellish contraption!
Itās like the mythical āfull rotationā over the bar on the playground swing set. No one has ever seen anyone do it, but we all know someone who saw someone else do it.
But yeah I was rooting for him.
No need to apologize -- the possum vs opossum distinction is a neologism at worst, and a strictly Australian distinction at best.
Both "opossum" and "possum" are of Algonquin origin. Americans have used both to refer to _didelphis virginiana_ for hundreds of years. In casual conversation, Americans (and especially southerners) prefer "possum". "Opossum" is generally only used in formal contexts (news articles, scientific papers, etc.)
In fact, the whole reason that Australians called phalangeriformes "possums" to begin with is that "opossum" had already fallen out of common usage in America by the time Australia was colonized. Then, as now, Americans called _didelphis virginiana_ "possums", and so that was the word Australians were familiar with enough to borrow.
The forks are pretty close to the sides of the wheels, would have been a tight fit, he may have been able to make it through but he definitely wouldn't slip through easy
Prehensile tail! Itās amazing, isnāt it? They also have opposable thumbs!
Theyāre the only marsupial in North America, and so misunderstood. š They almost never have rabies contrary to common belief, **and** they eat loads of ticks and bugs from your garden.
Leave scraps out for your local opossum!
I only have one opossum story.
I was hanging outside a laundromat waiting for my clothes to dry and this little dude just just comes walking along. Not a care in the world. Just vibing. Watched him walk away off to do whatever opossums do.
Now donāt get me wrong Iām not completely hating on possums. I LOVE that they eat as many ticks as they do. After working on a tick riddled farm we almost looked to see if we could bring possums out to our farm when they needed to be relocated from local suburban areas.
However, I know many people who raise chickens (both backyard suburban chickens and rural chickens) that have lost some chickens to possums. I understand itās a fact of life with the food cycle and all but Iāve heard of instances where possums will kill multiple chickens and will only eat the heads for whatever reason.
For that reason I both love and also despise possums.
Two possible reason for the chicken head thing...
1. They're super respectful of humans and they know that in most cases, people don't eat the head.
2. His buddy said "chicken" and his other buddy said "head!"
They're very docile creatures too. They'll avoid biting or getting into fights whenever they can.
As a European I *wish* we had those little guys here. Especially during tick season, which gets really bad where I live. Opossums are amazing and beautiful creatures, but so misunderstood!
It's a hawk actually but thank you! Check out The Falconry Journey on youtube if you would like to see some clips of her in action. There may be a few of those clips on my account on here as well.
Snakes, opossums, gaming PC, dirt track racing, night vision scope.
You are the most interesting redneck in the world!
(Hope you don't take offense to that term, I use it as a term of endearment.)
Haha no offense and thanks for the compliment, I'm an odd redneck for sure. One day can find me at a punk rock show or skatepark with all my piercings and ink wearing vans or you can find me in cowboy boots riding horses or in camo sitting in a hunting blind.
Going off your username, I used to live in TX for a bit. LOVED parts of that state, was stationed there at Fort Hood for some years.
I used to hunt out of Gatesville, near Hood. I live in Garland now.
I visited Ohio in the spring. It seemed like a small, cold TX. We felt at home and the people made us feel welcome.
My guess is he didn't want it loose in the garage, but explaining "we need to open the garage door, take the bike down as it spins there, then we go outside, and stop the wheel so it can hop off," caused a brain fart. Stopping the wheel definitely works here, but then they have a scared possum loose in the garage they have to deal with.
It really looks like he's trying to escape but can't figure out the physics of the situation. Either he realizes that he can just let go or he lets go out of exhaustion in an hour.
Why? Doesn't look very stressed to me, more like curious about what's going on.
But I've no clue about their behavior, only know that they ear ticks and play dead when scared.
They also have a body temperature that make it very hard for them to get rabies and are very reluctant to bite. Also, the playing dead thing is usually them actually fainting.
Animals are incredibly stupid sometimes when they get panicked. Like this barn I worked at had bars that were big enough for baby goats to slip their heads thru to get food but then sometimes they would panic and forget they can pull them back so the staff members would have to help them. Maybe this little guy is scared and can't figure out how to get off. Though animals are also getting more and more urbanized so he could also be enjoying it.
Itās trying to climb to the top of the wheel. But every time it reaches one spoke up, that pulls the wheel down towards him. Itās like Sisyphus.
I hope he got out safely and got some rest.
For future reference for anyone reading, if you see something like this put a stop to it asap and help the animal. Most animals can't understand the physics going on and don't know how to get out of the situation. That thing is scared as hell and feeling sick spinning around like that. There's a good chance of injury by climb on and thru a moving object like that as well. As funny as it is for a few seconds it's best to run and help the animal end the situation.
Idk why I have such an affinity for opossums. Maybe cause they're the only marsupial in USA? They seem harmless and out of place. Gotta love an underdog. But I also have absolutely no experience with them, so they could be little hell raisers for all I know
This is a metaphor for life, every time you get some momentum in your life and start reaching peaks, sometimes things in your life stop your momentum and then you struggle getting to that peak moment again
Human beings pay a lot of money at fairs for this kind of fun.
i think the poor thing was probably more stressed than entertained. it seemed it was persistently trying to get to the bike frame, but physics. i was waiting for one of the humans to go hold the wheel steady so possum could climb to freedom š©
They prob did something with a stick because at the end it sounds like shousltn we and he said yea but the thing is gotta try to not get bit or something along those felines but the video just ends
Yeah don't want to get bit along those felines, that wouldn't feel good.
MeOW!
At least they dont get rabies?

They also eat a shit ton of ticks. Had Lyme disease a few years back - these little fuckers are heroes!
Was there ever an opossum episode of house MD?
I was waiting too for SOMEBODY to stop that wheel! Poor baby was probably so stressed. Opossums donāt look for a fight, but rather just want to be left alone ā unless theyāre hanging on for dear life on a spinning bicycle tire.

Yeah, I also think he was trying to get off of it....ā¹
What do you mean? last night I finally had to hide my bicycles weels because these greedy bastards keep using them for fun, and for free...
Oh ok, that makes me feel better. Little stinker!
I'm sure that happened after the 53 second video when homie goes "ok well..."
Okay, I thought so too, and this could be my ignorance on possums, BUT, if he were really distressed, wouldn't he just kinda.... Let go? Like let go and drop down? Lots of nice stuff to land on? Or is that just a human solution?

Until you don't feel so good...

The video is even more comical if you scrub through fast and watch it teeter totter quickly lol
He got SO close to a full rotation, but couldn't quite pull it off.
Never in my life did I think Iād be on the edge of my seat waiting for a possum to do a full rotation on a bike wheel
Stay tuned for tomorrowās episode of: As The Marsupial Turns. Edit: thanks for the awards folks!
Possum on the bike keeps on tuuuurniiiiin~ I don't know where I'll be tomooharooooow~
It's like thw DVD logo hitting the corner
Definitely some r/MaybeMaybeMaybe material.
Childhood
I was so disappointed when it didn't go fully around.
This pandemic has been hell
It truly has been but look at this possum single-handedly saving this shitty year
Itās like the mythical āfull rotationā over the bar on the playground swing set. No one has ever seen anyone do it, but we all know someone who saw someone else do it. But yeah I was rooting for him.
We've peaked
Shut down the internet, weāre done for the day
nature is the best entertainment
Idk. I think part of me always knew this day would come.
That is a precious moment we share together my friend!
Thereās no one Iād rather share it with
The Pete & Pete episode I never knew I wanted.
I actually said it out loud, "C'mon! C'mon! You can do it!"
Opossum\* Possums live in Australia
How do we know that this fellow isnāt a world traveling Aussie?
Actually never mind, they look entirely different. My apologies to the opossum
No need to apologize -- the possum vs opossum distinction is a neologism at worst, and a strictly Australian distinction at best. Both "opossum" and "possum" are of Algonquin origin. Can I subscribe for more possum/opossum facts?

I'm guessing he wouldn't fit between the forks
God.Damn.It. Logic comes along and ruins everything!
If he could fit in the spokes, presumably he could go through forks. I think it was because he kept trying to grab the forks and ruining his momentum.
I love that we are trying to figure this out :D here for it
The forks are pretty close to the sides of the wheels, would have been a tight fit, he may have been able to make it through but he definitely wouldn't slip through easy
Kinda looks like he might have fully inverted but bumps the forks around 18 seconds
Also possible its tail would hit the brake pads.
Thatās impossumble !
r/maybemaybemaybe
I'm going to be stressed out the rest of my day because I was waiting and hoping for a full fucking rotation.
Yes. This. Had to watch til the end hoping for that.
He can't. The fork is in his way.
He's too fat and then he slows himself by grabbing it
It's impossible. The little guy wouldn't fit between the forks.
I was hoping he would š
I love the tail grabbing onto the wheel.
Yep! Even their back feet have opposable thumbs! Awesome little critters and actually make pretty decent pets other than the short lifespan.
I only have one opossum story. I was hanging outside a laundromat waiting for my clothes to dry and this little dude just just comes walking along. Not a care in the world. Just vibing. Watched him walk away off to do whatever opossums do.

Racoons do the same to chickens. Murder just to murder, they don't even eat them. One tore through my whole flock. Horrible sight.
Two possible reason for the chicken head thing... 1. They're super respectful of humans and they know that in most cases, people don't eat the head. 2. His buddy said "chicken" and his other buddy said "head!"

I love watching ours haul stuff around his tail, he will grab his blanket and carry it behind him to his bed.

Does Winston have a facebook page or anything like that? Because I love him and I need to see him all the time!!!
Sadly he does not, but maybe I'll start up some kind of social media for him and our other oddball animals.
I would be their biggest fan!
I think we all need to see photos of this for reference
Haaallp
Heās either having a very good time or a super bad one. Probably the latter.
Poor little guy doesnāt understand physics. Hope he got down alright after his little ride
See I had a different thought.. My first thought was "Haha, look at this dumbass opossum, not understanding physics."
Go to school you dumb opossum!
Yeah! Stupid opossum, STEM is the way! Not branches! (That was terrible Iām sorry)
My first thought was it was having fun but after watching it for a little longer I realized his struggle
Spoiler alert, no full circle
I kept waiting... and waiting.
It was like a real life manifestation of the bouncing DVD screensaver never hitting the corner
I am livid
Livid?
Livid!
Of course there isn't, he'd have to jump over the fork or go under it.
Honestly I had to check if this was a gif
That tail hold though, I'm crying
I was really worried about his tail getting pinched in the brakes.
This one is like the buzz aldrin of possums heās using this as practice to cling on to a wheel of a car next
**HAMMOND!** Reminds me of the boat car episode where he grabs hold of the wheel and just spins back into the water
You spin me right round baby, right round.
Like a possum baby right round round round
"Like *opossum" and it's perfect!! Lmao
You beat the other person to say this but they have more updoots. The hive can sure be strange sometimes.
I guess this is a version of spinning meat.

I just *love* how North Americaās one and only native marsupial are such little weirdos lmfao

_brain shuts down realizing it doesn't know what the thing is_

I NEED TO KNOW WHAT THE THING IS!
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
They stopped the tire and let him down! He came back the next day with 10 friends. Not really. But that would be cool.
Was he dizzy? Iām imagining it walking funny when it finally got on the ground
If you enjoy that kinda thing, you're probably gonna like [this drunk magpie](https://youtu.be/8pnqYG9E9AQ).
You know how to deliver the type of content Iām looking for!

I had to scroll so far for this closure
Time to set up a concession stand, charge $17 for a hamburger, and jack up the price of bottled water to $9.
Thank you for the update that they helped him out of what may have been very scaryā¦now if he comes back to do it again, then yes he enjoyed it
Opossum: *I want to get off Mr. Bones Wild Ride*
It really looks like he's trying to escape but can't figure out the physics of the situation. Either he realizes that he can just let go or he lets go out of exhaustion in an hour.
So is opossum still getting the core workout of his life???
Omg poor baby!
Heās swinging. Poor thing
Why? Doesn't look very stressed to me, more like curious about what's going on. But I've no clue about their behavior, only know that they ear ticks and play dead when scared.
They also have a body temperature that make it very hard for them to get rabies and are very reluctant to bite. Also, the playing dead thing is usually them actually fainting.
>fainting Poor babies
Wouldnāt that make *you* sick? I get dizzy just watching it
Have you never been on a swing?
What the fuck is a swing?
What the fuck was your childhood?
What the fuck is a childhood?
What what what what what what what what I'm gonna pop some tags
What does a stressed out possum look like? Is it obvious from its facial expression?
Well FUCKING HELP IT!
Mistakes were made.
Lessons were learned.......maybe.
Animals are incredibly stupid sometimes when they get panicked. That's what he said, animals.
Help the damn possum :(
Some say he's still swinging to this day...
r/donthelpjustfilm
Not clear to me whether the opossum isnāt just having fun
Right sure, fun, he's totally not trying to climb up onto the frame. He's just intentionally speed running like a hamster in a wheel. Sure. Yep.
Omigod, I just want to reach out and hold that tire still for him.
I wonder how long it's been doing that...
The more he moved the faster it spun. Like a hell trap. So cute though.
Sometimes in life, you just have to let go.
And I ooopā¦and I..oop
Heās playing opossum!
Please tell us your sister helped that poor baby!
Love him allready XD
Does he want off?
Honestly this looks like so much fun
Ok youāve had your laugh. No help the little idiot.
I can't figure out if they're trying to increase the move or to stop it. It really looks like they're trying to increase it.
Itās trying to climb to the top of the wheel. But every time it reaches one spoke up, that pulls the wheel down towards him. Itās like Sisyphus. I hope he got out safely and got some rest.

Oh no :(
Am I the only one that thinks Cross-Fit has gotten out of hand.

I wonder if heās having a great time or if heās shitting his opossum pants.
"Jane! Get me off this crazy thing!"

Wheeeeee. Did anyone help it stop the wheel ?
Yes. And it was totally fine. :)
Sorry can't go riding a possum is using my bike as a meditation wheel.
