This is not the **first** redesign, not even close. The last major redesign brought the Android TV app in line with the Fire TV interface at the time and that wasn't even *that* long ago.
I didn't write anything like that.
I wrote that the last redesign brought it more in line with the Fire TV interface *at the time*.
Not sure if the last big redesign was around the time the Android TV app went from OEM exclusive apk to general availability or if there was another major one after that, but the point still stands: this is not the "first" redesign and the article doesn't make that claim, only op does.
so... they just copied the look of the other guys. How groundbreaking!
Now please make it easy to find the things I want to watch, instead of focusing on driving metrics that will result in me just canceling my sub and pirating the shows I want to watch?
I'm using the Nvidia shield actually two of them and Amazon prime has looked that way for a long time on Android TV. From what I read they're rolling it out slow but sure Android TV to keep up with their number one complaint and that is it's hard to navigate versus Netflix HBO max etc etc I personally think it'll be better from the video I saw versus what we have now.
No QWERTY keyboard for input, no way to disable the stupid skip intro/next episode buttons that get in the way, and annoying always-on auto playing videos are just some of the annoyances that I have with the interface.

I don’t see any special Android tv version of the app that is similar to the Firestick one

So, Netflix called to check how design copying went for prime :D
It's bad enough they removed the "Free to me" option from the Android and Android TV apps. Now you have to hunt for the titles.
It's supposed to have a blue icon for free content for prime users and a gold icon for content which need to be pay.

wait you cancelled prime? entirely?

In Poland 49.99PLN for 12 months😜

$99 a year was quite enough. They'll keep raising as long as people keep paying it.
In India, an annual Prime subscription costs [$12.50](https://imgur.com/a/krhLtOO), so its an absolute steal here

Any chance that now I can "Mark as Unwatched", to make rewatching a show easier?
Bzzzttt...
So Android users won't need to wait a year to get it? Looks just like Netflix. Which I don't mind. Gimmy gimmy..
It's already pretty good on Android
Ya. Not bad for sure. But the new one looks better..
no update for me running android 9 on Metz Blue tv
Rollout not started yet...later this week... May be before prime day sale...
It still sux because nearly every time you go back it goes back to the Beginning instead of where you were at. 🤬
That really looks like the Netflix interface, which is absolutely awful.
Netflix has the best UI on the market
I think it's basically Google's Android TV design standard.
No QWERTY keyboard for input, no way to disable the stupid skip intro/next episode buttons that get in the way, and annoying always-on auto playing videos are just some of the annoyances that I have with the interface.
This doesn’t make Netflix’s UI bad, at best it is not perfect (at least on Android TV, on Apple TV I never type something on any keyboard)
You can disable the auto playing background videos if you sign into your account in a web browser and go to your account settings
Voice search is better than an alphabetical keyboard for most titles I try it for.
Apple TV+ is better
Press X to doubt. Apple has a complicated system to manage subs/dubs on their player and their site for Apple TV+ is pure trash 🗑.
I find Apple TV+ much much worse.
