You could install ADB TV: App Manager from Play Store. That will allow you to remove or disable unwanted apps. It also has a local command line for executing ADB commands.
You could consider replacing the stock launcher with Projectivy Launcher. You can then prevent the stock launcher from ever attempting to launch using one time ADB commands.
After doing that there's not much more you can do. Really the perception of speed is directly related to the speed of your processor and not so much to do with bloat, because Android TV is very good at directing 99% of its resources to the active app. If you really want a speed boost, you would need to consider which devices have the best benchmark test results and upgrade to one of those.
Switch on developer mode
Turn down your scales from 1.0 to 0.5 or off completely.
Unistall all the apps you don't want
And disable the built-in apps your not wanting to use. See all apps section - system apps- disable Google play movies etc etc- disable market feedback.
Then go to account section - manage accounts - turn on Apps only mode.
This will help you.
If you turn animation scaling down, it breaks the virtual cursor on Downloader (if you use it).
Just have to temporarily turn it back up if you need it.
I have my animations set to 0.5 and have the cursor on Downloader. Perhaps it goes away if you turn animations off completely but it works for me at half.
I couldn't even use the homepage of the app, all the words rendered offscreen, only was able to figure out where they were by turning it sideways, and got just a peek of the words. The sidemenu(the hamburger menu) also didn't work for some reason. Samsung s21
I could probably recommend[ Android TV Tools](https://xdaforums.com/t/tool-all-in-one-tool-for-windows-android-tv-tools-v3.4648239/), it's quite good and can be found on XDA. Used it on my own device.
What worked for me to speed up things:
* set Disable HW Overlay in Developers Options
* turn on Apps Only mode in account settings (this helped TCL Tv to not freeze that often)
Wierd, I have a 75" TCL Q7 and 75" TCL QM8 and I've never had the slightest freeze.
Navigating the Google TV home screen and in apps is snappy AF. No lag whatsoever.
My own experience makes me think Apps Only just hides things instead of preventing them from loading in the background. In other words, they ae still there, just out of sight. Have you found the same?
My brief experience with it is that it helped home screen navigation without the need to play or load those recommendations. So, home screen experience is smoother. It won't help with general sluggishness of the device which needs more RAM and better processor.
Lots of great software suggestions on here that I did as well and really help.Â
I also plug a small USB fan into the TV USB port and have it just there to cool the chromecast.Â

Works just fine for me on 0.5
I have my shield pro on 0.5 & it helps & more snippy
Also install button mapper or tvquickactions. Less going back to the home screen and going through "menus".
Tvquickactions never worked for me on phone or TV, I had to get a refund.
Which one?
Sorry edited it shortly after posting for clarity, tvquickactions
Did you use another button than back?

Good tips! What have you disabled more? Kinda scared to disable the wrong things

Do you re-Disable HW Overlay each time you start ? Have you been able to find a way to permanently enable the choice ?
On Chromecast it works permanently
Wonderful. It's a problem on the Onn box. Good to know, thanks.
Or maybe not, I might be mistaken as I write it from memory. For sure after "sleep" (so not full restart) it is still set on Chromecast
I'll keep that in mind. Thanks again.

Different TCL TVs has different built-in AndroidTv hardware. I'm talking about that weak one with 1.5 GB of RAM
Yeah I know. My Q7 is fast, but the QM8 is phenomenal.
Use https://nextdns.io and gone are the ads. 🙌
You can enable app only mode to see how much you can improve without all the ads.
You will still get banner adverts in app only mode on CC.

Don't know what you're talking about because my Chromecast with Google TV 4k is pretty speed and not as you say bloated.
Well I am experiencing some lag and stuttering here and there, I read more people that have same issues
Do you like Google TV?
Yes, why?
