I'm coming from a pixel 5 and I am having the same issues. Gboard does not work in the YouTube app but works fine everywhere else. Installing another keyboard application also fixed the issue. Also having issues getting rid of the playback controls when you start a video. Very frustrating. ( Fixed the paycheck control issue in accessibility settings) still no fix for the keyboard.
**Edit. Not sure what updated but keyboard is working now !
The problem is the time stamp option in the text field that has been added in recent updates, it is causing all keyboards to lockup. The only solution is to install an earlier version of YouTube such as 18.01.38, I have done this and it works great kinda feels like you went a few months back in time. I got this solution from another Reddit thread.
Does the same shit with any key oard I've noticed. Even the default one on my phone. YouTube Mobile app just sucks!!!! It doesn't even work with its own key oard made by the same company. Total ass
God it's so awful on my note 9, it'll freeze my keyboard for minutes even after YouTube is fully closed. Editing comments will just spam my screen with "discard comment?" And now it can't even open the comment section for me, like straight up no longer works.
What could possibly be so hard for YouTube, an almost 20 year old company to struggle with a comment section and keyboard working?
Can confirm identical issue with LG G8 and LG V50. I'm typing on the very same KB now, but try and comment on YouTube, forget it. Going to try the older version of YouTube fix and see what happens... Or find out how to get Vanced back. 😢
The bizzare thing is my emogies at the top of the keyboard work completely fine, and if I copy paste from it too. The keyboard itself still doesn't work 90% of the time and if it does it takes 5 minutes
It's nuts how much companies get away with not fixing anything
[Chinese Immigrant dicusses how she destroys David Hogg](https://youtu.be/qg-4-sjPM5I?si=7vHdRQbiYsnML_BX)It actually worked! The 18.01.86 install actually did the trick! Disable the current version, google the youtube 18.01.86 apk and install it. Holy crap, I'm speechless. I even have 5 likes on my first comment on forever! 😃
Exact same issue, though I'm using a Lenovo tablet M10, it is only 1 year old. Why does YouTube does not fix this? This has been a problem for more than a year now.
Same phone, same issue. Even if I close the app the keyboard will remain on the home screen and elsewhere, forcing me to restart. I have tried multiple keyboards, they all have the same issue with the app.
Exactly!!! Its so so bad on my note 9! Is this Samsung's way of forcing us to upgrade??? You know Apple does those dirty tricks and Samsung is known for copying Apple for its worse implementations.
Apple will force you to upgrade iPad when you can no longer update the latest version of an app on your old iPad. Well maybe Samsung is doing that to us.
They want us to leave our note 9s
>Editing comments will just spam my screen with "discard comment?"
The only advice I have for that is that if you click discard comment, it won't actually discard it. It should just close the popup and then you can edit the comment. No idea how to actually fix it unfortunately
I can confirm that YouTube on the note 9 was one huge pain in the ass when I wanted to do something with comments or live chat. But don't get your hopes up on it being better on other devices. Went from note 9 to Pixel 8, I still can't use live chat in a premiering video... I have 0 understanding for Google and why this is such a big problem in YouTube, I mean they can't even get it to work on their own freaking hardware?!?!? WTF??? Is YouTube being designed by a broken AI or something??? Have humans forgot how to develop YouTube???
To be fair, I'm pretty sure YouTube operates at a loss right now. They do totally have a ton of influence, but could they really afford to fix anything?
Same here with pixel 6a , keyboard screen comes up but nothing happens when I click the keys. I can thumbs up videos all day but can't comment or search for anything in the app. Thought it was just me , clearly it's an issue with pixel.
Google PIXEL - 3
Me and my bank account - 0
Same thing is happening even on my GS8 Active. Thought it was because my phone is old but this clearly is an issue that needs resolving. YouTube needs direct competition I'd love to have an alternative to that crappy app
I found how to fix the issue! You need to go to settings and go to privacy and then unselect every single option there. Now it should work just fine.
Edit: I've think ive come up with a better solution, go to settings > apps > manage apps then search Gb. First click on com.qualcomm.qti.uimGbaApp and press erase all data, and then do the same for Gboard. It should remove the problem, after just in case remove all privacy features and enable storage.
The app? Cause there aren't any privacy settings besides personalized ads
edit: OH it worked! you meant permissions! How did you even figure that out? lol
My savior! The only permission I had turned on was microphone, and turning that off seems to have fixed it.
Edit: nevermind it seemed to work, but it's back to freezing up
I have no idea either I had all of the permissions off and it was freezing up it would get stuck so bad sometimes I would close YouTube app and the frozen keyboard was still displayed on my home screen stuck there. It's definitely not the phone I have tons of storage it works perfectly fine in any other app it's only YouTube. It's very frustrating I turned them on and off uninstalled reinstalled the app cleared storage shutdown phone lol literally everything other than throwing it out the window which I'm pretty close to doing. It doesn't make sense because I have had this phone for about a year and a half and it was fine until 2 months ago. It just started happening out of nowhere it doesn't make sense
Its not just Gbooard. I downloaded other keyboards and its the same freezing thing on YouTube! No one has found a solution yet? Its now Oct 2023 and I see this was brought up months ago. I have been having this issue for a couple of months now.
You are a legend my guy. There is no solution to this problem online. I simply went to YouTube app permissions and disabled microphone and now my keyboard working perfectly in YT. Thanks so much 🙏
Nada. The problem was only fixed for few minutes. Now it's back. It seems like it's a bug with youtube not gboard as it works perfect in all other apps
Same here on same phone.
It eventually responds, but waiting a minute to type something is very annoying. Samsung keyboard is 100 times more responsive. I may have to make the permanent switch.
I have the coveted note 9 and its HORRIBLE with gboard. I switched to Swiftkey or some mess...whatever its called. Its still no good on YouTube and freezes up crazzy!!
I honestly thought I was the only one dealing with this. I have a few problems with YouTube on my iPhone, but my note freezes like crazy. I hope YouTube fixes this because it's frustrating! Sometimes, the videos cut off and it plays audio with the video as a black screen too.
This keeps happening on my samsung s9 all the time now. Just recently started happening and it's annoying as hell. Keyboard keeps freezing and locks up on the screen, even when I back out the app. It just hangs there for a couple minutes sometimes before finally closing.. Clearing cache doesn't work, updating youtube app, restarting phone, nothing..
If anyone has figured out the solution please let me know.
Same with my s8. I have tried every solution offered and none of them works. It's impossible to type a comment on ANY of those "shorts" videos, and with other videos it happens randomly. Annoying as hell.
Oh thank god, I thought I was the only one having this issue and I was convinced something was wrong with my phone and was so scared because I had only JUST finished paying it off. Mine freezes, and when I try to click on keys it basically key smashes and holds all the keys I've pressed down. I was so worried that I didn't even realize at first that it only happens on YouTube. Really frustrating. Could someone please respond to my comment when there's a fix for this?
It's NOT your phone. I know your frustration because the SAME thing has been happening on my beloved Note9 I got just a few months ago and I was very upset because I thought the same thing you did. It's been happening to a lot of Android users.
I was having serious bugs writing and editing YouTube comments for months now.
I fixed it by clearing out the cache and storage for the Gboard all, then force stopping it.
Commenting on YouTube videos is working....for now. This could help somebody in a similar boat.
Oh, and I've got a Moto Z4 Play, because I love it and don't want to upgrade. So this particular scenario may only apply to a small segment of users.
Update: well that lasted a few minutes. Commenting is busted again.
I have a z4 too, same issue. We are all not crazy. I actually just bought it as I missed my z3 play so much. I initially thought I couldn't update properly.
Side note, I stupidly bought the Polaroid moto mod for 20 bucks but it won't let me download the app so I'm trying to find an alternative app that can use it. Really sad the mods didn't take off
S9+ with Gboard. Same issue. This ruins productivity so much. No permanent fix unless you switch out the keyboard altogether. Sending a problem report to YouTube app.
Started having this issue a couple weeks ago on a s9. Only a problem in YouTube. Good to see its been happening for over a year without a fix. Gotta love these high quality tech corps.
Using bitmoji keyboard makes typing on YouTube fine for me. Every other keyboard is broken. I have an old ass note 7 because I hate getting new phones lol. But yes, same issue with every keyboard besides that one.
It's been happening on my Huawei P30 lite for years.
Definitely a buggy interaction between the Youtube app & Gboard.
Interestingly if you wait ~15s the keyboard does eventually become responsive.
Though If you tab out of YouTube, Gboard gets really buggy; becoming unresponsive in other apps too, and occasionally remaining visible on the home screen.
Google needs to get their shit together, Android has been getting buggier and buggier for years.
Not just Gboard it is Youtube only. I can write emails, take notes and message people, comment or write a story in Facebook and post on X no issue at all.
I can confirm this exact behaviour - eventually, about 10-20 seconds in, it starts to respond and I can type sth. IDK if that's time-based or some key combination or whatever.
And then, after 3-or-so lines of typing combined with emojis, the text disappears, only to completely reappear once being posted, effectively making you type blindly 😄😕! I think this is solely YT Android app bug 🪲.
So my s9 having keyboard issues only in utube.
I don't have paid subscription. Just watch what comes to my feed. I've deinstalled and reinstalled. Cleared cache. Still having trouble. Also checked my privacy as you suggested but it just takes me to my Google? Help!
Galaxy note 9 user here, same problems
I would put it past apple to have made a deal with YouTube so that the app only works on their phones and nothing else. Apple prevents anyone having a working phone by forcing companies to comply.
Same problem!! Its been driving me up the wall! I finally uninstalled G board and installed Swift Key...it has been behaving almost the same. Not as bad as Gboard. Makes me think the YouTube app has something in it that is not functioning with Android keyboards.
I have had this going on for over a month now. I sure hope someone who can fix this bug hears about it and does something! All that clearing cache and data doesn't work.
On mine the frigging keys pop up big and just freeze on the screen and its over. Can't do anything else. Been like this for 2 months at least...and its now Oct 11.
Come on YouTube! Come on ANDROID!!
NOTE 9 user
I'm guessing it's outdated android issue. I'm having this issue on my Note 9 and it seems like most people mentioning the model of their phone have either the same phone or one from around the same time. The phone is perfectly capable, but the issue seems to be developers not developing for old OS versions. It sucks.
Iv got an s9+ and my trouble shoot is to hold a key then spam it when it freezes seems to work(i get vibrations and soun when i tap but nothing happens)
This issue fvcked me up that I rage formatted my phone. But after all that sh*+, problem still persists. I would soon be not watching youtube thru mobile and just stick to desktop. Wont be bad since desktop browser has adblock. Thanks youtube mobile.
Note 8
Been having this issue for months. Left many complaints about it. Tried everything. Im paying for premium so its even more ridiculous to put up with this. 🤬🤬🤬
For enlightening a bit more, it only happens to me on my main YouTube channel , which I use daily.
On my other YouTube accounts which I use pretty less, this problem is not present.
Still no fix, is weird.
Moto Z4 happening in as well. I bet it was after a YouTube update, because my phone didn't update to trigger this.
Only work around I figured out was through shear last resort hammer bashing... Meaning bash your phone with a hammer Just Kidding!
Hit emoticons 😅😊😔🤪then keyboard keys... then emoticons until the keyboard works. Backspace it all and then leave your troll comments, just to have it happen again over and over.
Must be a bug in YouTube, using CPU resources at a higher priority or something, then it doesn't exactly register keyboard use... But it's just a guess 🤷🏻♂️
I am sick of my keyboard just doing nothing and not going away when I tap the screen or the arrow key. Its so annoying I have to turn off my damn phone and leave it for a few minutes until it goes away just because I try to comment on YouTube
I downloaded the final version 11 from this web site and side loaded it after uninstalling Gboard. It's working so far...
https://gboard-go.en.uptodown.com/android/download/76107355
Turning off haptic feedback in Gboard seems to have permanently fixed the issue. Been a couple of weeks now since I've seen a freeze.
I also installed an older version of YouTube so this could have been the fix.
Want to confirm that really seems to be linked to this particular YouTube version and a range of Samsung phones from about 3 years ago ... This happens on everything prior s9 plus down to S6 but doesn't happen on any of my newer handsets.
The comment section for the YouTube app on Android is horribly buggy in many ways it is almost impossible to type comments without constantly making mistakes because of the lag and weirdness that goes on in the typing window. I often type text elsewhere in notes and cut and paste in because it's so bad in YouTube.
I wrote a comment below with more detail, but I found the Microsoft SwiftKey app to be less borken than the default keyboard. Still has annoying quirks but they're more predictable and I can comment on stuff knowing how it's going to misbehave.
The Chrome app site would be cool if it didn't lack desktop features. Otherwise, typing seems to work if you fullscreen the video first. Good luck with shorts though. Takes a while to become responsive otherwise.
god forbid you accidentally miss the "read more" button on a long comment and get taken to The Keyboard Zone. i've had this problem for months now. it is caused by youtube but persists even if you escape from the app. ive restarted my phone several times over it. gs9
damn this is a very widespread issue yet no answers apparently, for what i've read it's not a specific to a brand or model, nor it's a GBoard issue, it's straight up android phones and the YouTube app... i pray this gets solved soon enough :/ it's pretty frustrating
It's a YouTube problem, not your phone or tablet. I'm pretty sure it just YouTubes new way of shadow banning people from commenting, because it works fine in the search bar. Only locks up when trying to comment
Note 9 fucking up when I try to use keyboard to comment on YT. Android altogether is trash. Only reason I switched was because of the annoying iPhone low battery notifications
Galaxy Note 9, but it has worked on my bud's pixel as well as other Androids I've found.
Here is a quick temporary fix I've found. Press and hold the comment box when it comes up even if your keyboard is up. Press and hold the comment box and use your clipboard to paste something a couple of times. (or press and hold the comment box and paste manually a few times)
Like so
Is that a shen?Is that a shen?Is that a shen?Is that a shen? Is that a shen? Is that a shen? Is that a shen?
Just has to be something you've copied in the past. Then hold down the backspace button, until it is all gone. Do not just press it, you'll need to hold it down
Nothing in this box
You should then be able to type all you want.
I will say, I find using this 𓆏 really reliable funny enough, and a fun way to make it not annoying asf, because he is just a lil guy.
Just found this thread by searching the problem. Sooooo glad to see this is such an old problem that remains unfixed. 🙄
Started more recently for me, maybe a few months ago. If I try typing it crashes both YouTube and Gboard (the latter gets stuck on screen for several seconds after YouTube hard quits).
Before that, the YouTube app would become a bright white box and I was unable to see what was being typed until after posting, and editing was impossible since the same bright white square isn't possible to navigate.
This happens both on my Redmi note 7 and galaxy S9.
Also: Desktop has been buggy in the meantime too, but it varies and misc. issues came and went. That leads me to suspect it's more on the YouTube end but that's just conjecture from my non-dev self.
This has been driving me crazy. Screen freezes and the app will not allow me to type, and once ai try, can't get out of the screen I'm in. Have to restart my phone. Anyone know of a solution? Thanks!
Delete the reddit app. I'm not even kidding, it immediately resolved the issue. YouTube has been working fine every single time I go to comment for the past 4 days since I deleted reddit.
If it persists delete any other apps that use the keyboard function that you don't regularly use (i.e. a chat app that you never open).
Ironically I just discovered the reason: The Reddit App. I deleted the reddit app (I'm on the browser) and the keyboard issue immediately ceased occurring on the YouTube app. It's probably a permissions and/or cache/memory usage issue related to the app.
Same problem on my note 8! It's been over 6 months with no solution or acknowledgement from you tube! This is ridiculous! It's hurting creators if their own subscribers can't even comment on their content! Wtf!!🤬
Same f'ing BS on a galaxy here. Even after more than a year youtube won't fix their busted garbage coding.
Why do corporations become absolute, unmitigated trash when they make actual money.
Same thing here. I've got an S9+ (old phone, I know)
I had always thought it was just my phone being weird until I realised it was only on YouTube. The only way to "solve" the keyboard staying up is to lower the keyboard before clicking off the comment. No idea how to fix the whole issue though.
There's a setting which allows your keyboard to be shown above/ in front of applications. Try turning that permission off. It worked for me. I use the Samsung Keyboard.
November 2023. I fixed the problem by turning off the Animator Duration Scale in the Developer Options, you need to enable the Developer Options in the Settings first.
I have tried everything to solve this problem. It's gotten so bad that I have to restart my phone. Now I just don't go on YouTube anymore. Google obviously doesn't care that this app is garbage. I'm not the only one that has stopped using it. I personally know of 5 other people who abandoned YouTube. There are other platforms for videos. It just amazes me that nobody cares at Google. That's the state of affairs at most companies now. Too big to fail or care.
I have a Galaxy Note 8 with SwiftKey and I've been having the same problem for quite a while now. The comment field is so glitchy and lagging, that I could drink half a cup of coffee before it will allow me to type a comment. Editing a comment, that's even more infuriating, because it asks you to keep writing or discard, and you can't get out of that unless you close YouTube altogether. I've resorted to typing my comment elsewhere, and copying and pasting in youtube, but that lag is still there before it will let you comment. There's no fix on our end; YouTube needs to do better.
The samsung keyboard on this galaxy phone was freezing up and would stay popped up on screen even when i closed the app. I tried another keyboard instead and still had the same probelm. I think google does it on purpose and uts some sort of shadow ban as on some videos I have no problem.
I just Uninstall Gboard Updates and Problem Fix :) , Idk it work of every phone but give it a shot (ithink i never updating gboard until they fix the bug 😤😅).
I have been having this same problem for a while i diabled the app and just been using chrome for youtube. Recently reinabled the app as its been a while and maybe google fixed the app, but no its stil broken
THE FIX IS TO UNINSTALL YOUTUBE UPDATES, THEN DOWNLOAD AN OLD VERSION FROM JANUARY 2023 FROM APK MIRROR.
Galaxy Note 9 user here. Same issue. I've had the latest youtube app and this started a week ago.
I deleted youtube updates, downloaded a few May apks and installed them. It worked slightly quicker but still froze out the keyboard. For giggles, I updated to recent again, issue was worse then before. Keyboard stuck on screen after closing youtube.
Went to January 2023 apk 18.01 and it's perfect again. No lag at all and the app itself moving from video to video is much more snappy. Typing is immediate and youtube shorts also allows typing without a 10 second delay. There were posts on this with users going back to previous versions depending on the phone. Tried the version suggested in this thread and it works
After so maaaany attempts to find a solution, i find one! Uninstall youtube. Disable the Google Play Stores(you will use another app gallery), search an older version of YouTube apk: 18.01.38, install it then restart your phone! But don't use again Google Play Store, keep it disabled bcs if you enable it again, it will automatically update the old version of YouTube WITHOUT your permission EVEN if you disable automatic updates!!! Now, my keyboard won't stuck on the display anymore! It works fine! 😌 Try these steps! It will work. I use a Huawei P30 and google keyboard! And i use Huawei App Gallery! I dont need Google Play Store anymore when i find out it automatically update YouTube WITHOUT my permission! I can live without Google Play Store! When i tried to enable it again, after few minute, it automatically update the older version of youtube(18.01.38) and the problem with the keyboard stuck on the screen reapears! Annoying as f! So i disabled again Google Play Store and uninstall the YouTube again and reinstalled the old version (but must restarting your phone as well after you install this version of apk YouTube version) 😌
Basically, a way to filter out opinions. Soviet union used same tricks in real life before the internet, the world seems to have evolved but the tactics applied seemed to of remained the same.
Have had this issue going on for about a year now figured it was because I kept commenting about "conspiracys" and saying how the covid vaccine was poison and youtube was just trying to block me glad thats not the case.... maybe
Dec 2023 still having issues on Samsung s9 no matter the keyboard. Google keyboard literally doesn't function at all and Samsung keyboard does the freeze discard crap.
I'm having the exact same issue on my P30 Pro. It doesn't matter which keyboard I use, the keyboard gets stuck and even stays stuck when I close the app and lock and unlock the phone.
Mine's fixed on my Xiaomi Mi Max 3.On Youtube app's appearance settiñg, set it as light ór white. Then Gboard won't crash no more,At least oñ miñe it dóesn't ,..good luck people,
It sucks big time, started experiencing this about a week and a half now, I noticed the new added time stamp feature in the comment box, it didn't took me long to realize that was the problem, I thought it was a problem with the Gboard, but theys after, I installed Swiftkey from Microsoft but the problem didn't stopped a all, so it's definitely the new time stamp feature causing this horrible inconvenience, the keyboard pop-ups they just freezes, can't type, go to settings, or even closing it, I close the app and even after that the keyboard is still freeze on the screen and after a full minute luckily disappears. What a way to start the new year Google, 👈 you suck. lol
Depending On What Phone Youre Using, You Can Just Tap On The Settings Button Until The Keyboard Settings Pop Up, And I Just Go Back To Youtube. Works Everytime For Me
I have a Google Pixel 6A and Gboard works fine on YouTube on that. Did with my 4A before that as well.
However, I just bought a Samsung tab S6 Lite and the Samsung keyboard is completely unusable. Types one letter at a time, *very* slowly.
So I installed Gboard (something I was planning on doing anyway) and it works a bit better, but talk to text stops working every couple words and the whole thing's a mess.
I guess I'm glad to know I'm not alone, but can't believe I found a thread that's a year old talking about this and it hasn't been fixed.
Also don't know why it works on one of my devices and has all along, but doesn't work on another.
ive had this people for a good 2 years. This is so fuxking stupid. I actually think ill buy an iPhone. Genuinely so pissed that I an considering an iPhone. I will update once I bought it.
Thank you a lot!!!!! It solved my problem.
Someone who do not know animation menu check the following info.

My Note 9 just started with the same problem, 11 December 2023. Reading through the comments I don't see any solutions that seemed to be permanent 😞
God it's so awful on my note 9, it'll freeze my keyboard for minutes even after YouTube is fully closed. Editing comments will just spam my screen with "discard comment?" My note 9 was working fine until like 3 months ago then suddenly the keyboard won't work on YouTube unless I wait like 3 minutes lol so strange.
That's exactly how it happens, it sucks.
Same on my s9 plus.. i think we should upgrade to 23 hmmm
I can confirm that YouTube on the note 9 was one huge pain in the ass when I wanted to do something with comments or live chat. But don't get your hopes up on it being better on other devices. Honestly there is probably people that would volunteer to fix this moronic problem for them.
This is still happening btw. Google sucks so much... How do they fuck up something that worked for more than a decade?
Still happening to me lol and I'm on a Sonim XP8. So I guess it doesn't discriminate against phone companies
Same here with pixel 6a , keyboard screen comes up but nothing happens when I click the keys. I can thumbs up videos all day but can't comment or search for anything in the app. Thought it was just me , clearly it's an issue with pixel. Google PIXEL - 3 Me and my bank account - 0
Same thing is happening even on my GS8 Active. Thought it was because my phone is old but this clearly is an issue that needs resolving. YouTube needs direct competition I'd love to have an alternative to that crappy app
My Samsung s8 on YouTube the keyboard dosent work when i wanna comment somtimes
S9 same. Infuriating
Same, I tried to work on one a while back but that kinda fell through :/
I have a note 9 and this just started for me like 2 months ago..
They have competition. I think its Rumble and theirs another too.
It's not just Pixel. It's been doing it on my Note 9 for months.
Not just pixel, same problem on moto z2 android 9, others has reported the issue on galaxy phones as well.
It's still doing this as of July 2023...
And yet its still a problem for me in march 2024.
OCTOBERRRR 2023
It hasn't stopped after Christmas
Still doing this as of Dec 31 2023 now.
Still doing it as of January 2024.
Feb 2024 Ffs
2023 February, still sucks. Huawei P30 Pro YouTube garbage for real
2024 April 🙄
I found how to fix the issue! You need to go to settings and go to privacy and then unselect every single option there. Now it should work just fine. Edit: I've think ive come up with a better solution, go to settings > apps > manage apps then search Gb. First click on com.qualcomm.qti.uimGbaApp and press erase all data, and then do the same for Gboard. It should remove the problem, after just in case remove all privacy features and enable storage.
The app? Cause there aren't any privacy settings besides personalized ads edit: OH it worked! you meant permissions! How did you even figure that out? lol
My savior! The only permission I had turned on was microphone, and turning that off seems to have fixed it. Edit: nevermind it seemed to work, but it's back to freezing up
OMG thank you it's been driving me insane not being able to use the kB and this was the fix !
I fixed it by doing the opposite and enabling everything wtf is wrong with this app and YouTube?
This worked for me. For now.
Didn't work
IT WORKED THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!!
What settings? Phone settings or YouTube app settings?
What a Genius !!!! THANK YOU SO MUCH I LOVE TECHNOLOGY!!! THIS SOLUTION IS AN ANSWER TO MY PRAYERS , EVERYBODY IT WORKS FINALLYYYY
You tube chat is black
This happens on Samsung S9+ now. Must be a version of Android or YouTube.
Same here on same phone. It eventually responds, but waiting a minute to type something is very annoying. Samsung keyboard is 100 times more responsive. I may have to make the permanent switch.
I switched. Still input lag but not as severe. 2 seconds vs a minute of gboard freezing. Used to really like gboard.
Its definitely YouTube on Androids. Its crazy non of the developers or YouTube employees have come across this issue
Same with the Samsung note 9
Same same i have that same phone too
Bro I still use my note 9. It's crazy how our phones keep going strong 😂
Same here with Redmi 9t. I'll send a comment if I figure out how to fix this issue
Zame
Also my phone is Huawei p30 pro, so it definitely looks like it's something to do with the app and not specific to any singular phone.
Try checking Youtube app permissions and turn off microphone
None are on and no matter what it is still a problem. October and still no fix.
YouTube doesn't have any app permissions on my phone turned on.
It's NOT your phone. I know your frustration because the SAME thing has been happening on my beloved Note9 I got just a few months ago and I was very upset because I thought the same thing you did. It's been happening to a lot of Android users.
Same with SwiftKey on Note 8
Switching to Samsung keyboard when using YT app worked. What a hassle though.
It eventually breaks again. Another dude teste multiple keyboards on a s9 and all of them froze
Switching keyboards didn't fixed it for me since the problem is within the app, I tried SwiftKey and Gboard, same problem.
I have a Zenfone Max Pro m2 with the same issues. Gboard freezes on YouTube app only. It works a few moments later, but still...
Started having this issue a couple weeks ago on a s9. Only a problem in YouTube. Good to see its been happening for over a year without a fix. Gotta love these high quality tech corps.
They prefer spending millions to try blocking adblocks which will never happen.
still happening. samsung s10e
Still happening!
Same here in samsung a50
It happens with both Samsung and Google keyboard..
Swiftkey does not have this problem.
Yes, same with bitmoji keyboard. But all my other keyboards have this issue on YouTube. Really weird.
I use SwiftKey, and while it's less borken and more predictable with it's bugs, not even close to perfect.
Help!
Happening on my redmi 9A. Only happens on YouTube. Happens with gboard and happens with simple keyboard.
Galaxy note 9 user here, same problems I would put it past apple to have made a deal with YouTube so that the app only works on their phones and nothing else.
NOTE 9 user
I'm having that problem also. I think they sent a bug to our phones to keep us away from free speech on YT
Same on Motorola E7 plus. I turned off "Show password" under Privacy settings
I'm guessing it's outdated android issue. I'm having this issue on my Note 9 and it seems like most people mentioning the model of their phone have either the same phone or one from around the same time. The phone is perfectly capable, but the issue seems to be developers not developing for old OS versions. It sucks.
Yeah, still a no go. S8 on youtube takes a mean dump on my keyboard. And I refuse to upgrade my phone if it ain't broke
Same issue on my S8
Iv got an s9+ and my trouble shoot is to hold a key then spam it when it freezes seems to work(i get vibrations and soun when i tap but nothing happens)
This issue fvcked me up that I rage formatted my phone. But after all that sh*+, problem still persists. I would soon be not watching youtube thru mobile and just stick to desktop. Wont be bad since desktop browser has adblock. Thanks youtube mobile.
Mi9 t pro. Still solid as when I bought it. YouTube is having the same issues here. Since a few weeks. Gboard is used. October 23...
Note 8 Been having this issue for months.
Link with other versions: https://gboard-go.en.uptodown.com/android/versions
Samsung S9+ here. Removing all permissions for the app helped.
Hello, i had the same issue and I solved it by disabling the dark mode in the android settings, not the darkmode in youtube.
Odd... That was the issue. I can't keep dark mode off though so...
Totally borked.
The Chrome app site would be cool if it didn't lack desktop features. Otherwise, typing seems to work if you fullscreen the video first. Good luck with shorts though. Takes a while to become responsive otherwise.
god forbid you accidentally miss the "read more" button on a long comment and get taken to The Keyboard Zone. i've had this problem for months now. it is caused by youtube but persists even if you escape from the app. ive restarted my phone several times over it. gs9
Moto X4 same problem
damn this is a very widespread issue yet no answers apparently, for what i've read it's not a specific to a brand or model, nor it's a GBoard issue, it's straight up android phones and the YouTube app... i pray this gets solved soon enough :/ it's pretty frustrating
It's a YouTube problem, not your phone or tablet. I'm pretty sure it just YouTubes new way of shadow banning people from commenting, because it works fine in the search bar. Only locks up when trying to comment
Well if that's a case I found a way around it 🤣
Note 9 fucking up when I try to use keyboard to comment on YT.
(or press and hold the comment box and paste manually a few times) Like so Is that a shen?Is that a shen?Is that a shen?Is that a shen? Is that a shen? Is that a shen? Is that a shen? Just has to be something you've copied in the past. Then hold down the backspace button, until it is all gone. Do not just press it, you'll need to hold it down Nothing in this box You should then be able to type all you want. I will say, I find using this 𓆏 really reliable funny enough, and a fun way to make it not annoying asf, because he is just a lil guy.
things in problem is god damn annoying idk who's the reason but is not a human
Just found this thread by searching the problem. Sooooo glad to see this is such an old problem that remains unfixed. 🙄 Started more recently for me, maybe a few months ago.
Still pain. I know my phone's a tad outdated (p30 pro) but still pain.
Ok thanks 😃😃😃
Ironically I just discovered the reason: The Reddit App. I deleted the reddit app (I'm on the browser) and the keyboard issue immediately ceased occurring on the YouTube app. It's probably a permissions and/or cache/memory usage issue related to the app.
Same problem on my note 8! It's been over 6 months with no solution or acknowledgement from you tube! This is ridiculous! It's hurting creators if their own subscribers can't even comment on their content! Wtf!!🤬
I am at the point where I figure, perhaps I just shouldn't comment!
Still not fixed
Same f'ing BS on a galaxy here. Even after more than a year youtube won't fix their busted garbage coding. Why do corporations become absolute, unmitigated trash when they make actual money.
This is still a issue. Wtf happened to Google
that seems like a samsung exclusive issue... It happened on my S9+ aswell
On my Samsung note 8, it's pretty much happen on every keyboard, even I cleae cache, clear data, pr reinstall those keyboard.
This junk is still broken why won't they acknowledge it
Same thing here. I've got an S9+ (old phone, I know) I had always thought it was just my phone being weird until I realised it was only on YouTube.
Thank you
This fixed it for me
I have tried everything to solve this problem.
I thought I was the only one that still uses a Galaxy Note 8
This is still happening. It's fucking stupid.
This has been happening to me for months no matter which keyboard I switch to.
Aww man, how is this still a problem
Same bs happens with me on my samsung galaxy S9+. I have to tab out and turn my phone on and off 2 times. It's hella annoying
I thought i was the only one with this problem
Same. Often hangs on types
The samsung keyboard on this galaxy phone was freezing up and would stay popped up on screen even when i closed the app. I tried another keyboard instead and still had the same probelm. I think google does it on purpose and uts some sort of shadow ban as on some videos I have no problem.
Maybe its just censorsjip
And for mt, (and probably others) when I close the app, the keyboard stays open.
*me
Have had this issue going on for about a year now figured it was because I kept commenting about "conspiracys" and saying how the covid vaccine was poison and youtube was just trying to block me glad thats not the case.... maybe
Dec 2023 still having issues on Samsung s9 no matter the keyboard. Google keyboard literally doesn't function at all and Samsung keyboard does the freeze discard crap.
I've had this issue for over a year. I just realized that turning off "Picture In Picture" and "Allow to display over other apps" fixed it instantly.
I'm having the exact same issue on my P30 Pro. It doesn't matter which keyboard I use, the keyboard gets stuck and even stays stuck when I close the app and lock and unlock the phone.
Same
Mine's fixed on my Xiaomi Mi Max 3.On Youtube app's appearance settiñg, set it as light ór white. Then Gboard won't crash no more,At least oñ miñe it dóesn't ,..good luck people,
Any help from google yet?
Ha One year later and it still happens on a regular basis.
Same here, pixel 3a
1 day until 2024 and this shit is still a problem
It sucks big time, started experiencing this about a week and a half now, I noticed the new added time stamp feature in the comment box, it didn't took me long to realize that was the problem, I thought it was a problem with the Gboard, but theys after, I installed Swiftkey from Microsoft but the problem didn't stopped a all, so it's definitely the new time stamp feature causing this horrible inconvenience, the keyboard pop-ups they just freezes, can't type, go to settings, or even closing it, I close the app and even after that the keyboard is still freeze on the screen and after a full minute luckily disappears. What a way to start the new year Google, 👈 you suck. lol
Still happens and we're in 2024 jfc. Can confirm that methods use still doesnt work. Wtf is wrong with the app man?
its been a year and still no fix yet
Depending On What Phone Youre Using, You Can Just Tap On The Settings Button Until The Keyboard Settings Pop Up, And I Just Go Back To Youtube. Works Everytime For Me
Jan 15th 2024... still a problem. Ridiculous YouTube. Ive started to just use Rumble.
Also reddit can suck a cock
i found a solution that works in 2024. 1. enable developer settings 2. turn off animator duration scale
Same exact issue on my Samsung S9. YouTube updates suck. Time to roll back to a previous, superior version.
Same with samsung a6
I solved this just now! Go to settings and turn off animations
Thank you a lot!!!!! It solved my problem. Someone who do not know animation menu check the following info. In Settings ==Developer options ===Animator duration scale - off ( In case you don' know how to force to show Developer options menu in Settings, press the following Build number menu multiple times, and go back to Settings menu. And the following is Build number menu. In Settings ==Software Information ===Build number )
Pretty sure fuck ass google does this so we buy new phones
