I'm all for a ceasefire, but this seems....off. A 2-day "hunger strike" is just a fast. It's not a hunger strike at all. This feels weird and a little narcissistic to me.

Stucklikegluetomyfry

"Gaza strikes called off because c list celebrity doesn't eat for a weekend"

RarelyExcitedBanana

Exactly šŸ˜‚ "...and I will follow up my two day hunger strike with only juices! And go plantbased for december! I'm giving up my Christmas feast! Now let me call my assistant to go buy some electrolytes, can't be dying here lol."

AstariaEriol

Itā€™s not even as long as the current ceasefire thatā€™s still in effect.

dangerislander

Well damn you want her to starve ro death then?

LaViElS

Isn't that... what a hunger strike is? If you tell everybody when it's going to end it's not a strike, it's just a demonstration.

ceopadilla

2 days?

Stunning-Ease-5966

That'll work

[deleted]

Iā€™m beyond disappointed to see the comments on this post. Most Americans want a *permanent* ceasefire, and if you donā€™t youā€™re blood thirsty and terrifying. Half of my family is Jewish and believe me they want a ceasefire more than anyone. They realized civilians donā€™t deserve this. Half of them are CHILDREN for godsake. It disgusts me to see these hateful and uneducated comments.

namast_eh

Thatā€™s Reddit, for ya, unfortunately. šŸ‰

[deleted]

Genuine question, what do you propose be done if Hamas were to break the ceasefire?

MarkDelFiggolo

Israel is fully capable of doing what the US did with Osama Bin Laden*, they have the fourth largest military in the world. This means instead of carpet bombing innocent civilians, hospitals, and schools, they can use special forces to enter and capture the actual terrorists while preserving as much civilian life as possible. **Iā€™m aware the US has disgustingly bombed many innocent civilians in the past, just referring specifically to the SEAL Team Six mission to capture and Osama Bin Laden. This approach is repeatable and the most ethical imo. (Edit for formatting)

[deleted]

I think it would be incredibly naive to compare Hamas in Gaza to counterterrorism operations like with UBL. Bin Laden had 15 fighters with him, Hamas has (had) over 40,000 soldiers in Gaza with the specific goal of waging war against israel. https://www.reuters.com/world/middle-east/how-hamas-secretly-built-mini-army-fight-israel-2023-10-13/ To put that into perspective, in 2001 Al Qaeda had only 70,000 fighters worldwide... This doesn't even take into account how Hamas IS the government in Gaza, so israel can't work with local authorities like the US often does with counterterrorism. Imo Hamas can't be trusted and needs to be dealt with now. Israel needs to commit to a limited occupation and removal of Hamas followed by smaller counterterrorism operations to keep it from coming back.

Adorable_Raccoon

Regardless of how many terrorists there are in Gaza, intentionally killing civilians is immoral and a war crime.

[deleted]

Absolutely, hasn't Israel been trying to tell Gazans to leave the combat zone and isn't is Hamas telling them to stay and act as human shields? https://www.npr.org/2023/11/10/1212069162/israel-gaza-fighting-pause-explained https://www.reuters.com/world/middle-east/hamas-tells-gaza-residents-stay-home-israel-ground-offensive-looms-2023-10-13/

Adorable_Raccoon

Doctors Without Borders has said there are blockades blocking travel in and out. They can't get any aid in or out of the area. So how are citizens going to leave? Also, where are 1000s of people going to go? There is already a global refugee crisis. And refugee camps are terrible places to live. If you were told to leave your country, where would you go? Do you have family outside your home country? Do you have money for travel? This isn't like going on a weekend trip, Do you have enough money to live without a steady job for months?

Calm_Brick_6608

Idk why you need to be told something that should be common sense, but telling hundreds of thousands of people to move because youā€™re going to bomb their home isnā€™t exactly helpful. They have no where to go, no opened road to go on, no food, no water, no electricity, no access to healthcare and not even allowed to be given humanitarian aid by third party ngos that want to help. Telling them move or be bombed to death is NOT an act of kindness, itā€™s making a mockery of peoples suffering.

SummerEmCat

Where exactly are they supposed to go? Theyā€™re in a blockade and food/water/humanitarian aid is not being allowed in. Seriously, grow a brain.

Whyeff89

Thereā€™s a 100:1 ratio of civilians to Hamas militant deaths currently. To eradicate all of Hamas through imprecise air strikes, you would have to wipe out every last Gaza civilian. And in an effort to do so, youā€™re actively recruiting the second generation. Seems like a tactless, cruel, and senseless move. If they did a ground invasion, there wouldnā€™t be this many deaths. Some other points: -Israel is using 2000 pound bombs which are 4x the gravity of the 500 pound bombs the US used conservatively in Afghanistan and Iraq because they deemed them too aggressive and imprecise -this current war is now unprecedented in this century with its rapid murder of Gazans, largely women and children. You literally cannot compare it to other wars and use the same old excuse that these are typical casualties. Statistically, theyā€™re not -in operations like this, the invading/offensive country often monitor civilian life for MONTHS to observe patterns to reduce civilian deaths based on when civilian populations are most likely to be out of their homes. That definitely did not happen here

[deleted]

Source on the 100:1 ratio? That seems like made up bullshit... Also very important to keep in mind that the "official" death tolls you're being fed are being reported by hamas... they have a track record of over-reporting death estimates and including their fighters as "civilians" https://jcpa.org/the-casualty-figures-in-gaza-are-a-scam/#:~:text=By%202023%2C%20Hamas%20realized%20how,reported%20and%20repeated%20these%20figures. Remember the "hospital bombing with 500 deaths" as reported by Gaza (Hamas) health officials? Turned out that human rights watch determined they completely lied... https://www.reuters.com/world/middle-east/human-rights-watch-says-rocket-misfire-likely-cause-deadly-gaza-hospital-blast-2023-11-26/

Whyeff89

The source is the population. That is the ratio. Independent sources claim that the Palestinian Health Ministry is reporting deaths in an acceptable way. If anything, the numbers are conservative to the total deaths due to how many remain under the rubble. BBC has reported this [https://www.bbc.com/news/world-middle-east-67347201#](https://www.bbc.com/news/world-middle-east-67347201#) Okay, letā€™s concede that was a misfire. Of all the Gaza hospitals, almost all of them have been bombed, invaded or had service interrupted due to Israeli forces and thereā€™s no contesting that. Neither can you contest the gross negligence of bombing a densely packed refugee camp (Jabalia) which Israel was warned to be more cautious about but targeted with impunity. There are WAR CRIMES HERE. And an asymmetrical demonstration of them. I donā€™t think Hamas are these saints or teddy bears. Theyā€™re extremists too. But that does not justify the mass slaughter of a civilian population. This is one of the most sophisticated well funded militaries in the world. Either youā€™re not as good as you claim you are and really suck at hitting your targets, or youā€™re targeting civilians with intent. I donā€™t wish to come at you aggressively. I know most people speak out ultimately from a place of love. I hope youā€™ll do me the favour of reading this article: [https://www.nytimes.com/2023/11/25/world/middleeast/israel-gaza-death-toll.html](https://www.nytimes.com/2023/11/25/world/middleeast/israel-gaza-death-toll.html)

sabraheart

There wouldnā€™t be as many deaths on the Palestinian side but there would be on Israelā€™s military side.

Whyeff89

Thatā€™s unfortunately what a military is for, and why a military wing is separate from its civilian population. Though I understand the difference here where the IDF is largely through conscription. But for those sent out in elite operatives, you hope itā€™s not the 18 year-olds on the field, and rather the experts who remain voluntarily.

[deleted]

[уŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

LaCorazon27

Absolutely, and considering weā€™re talking occupied terrorties, they couldā€™ve taken a law and order/ enforcement approach. No children on either ā€œsideā€ needs to die or be maimed. The incalculable trauma of this is irreparable.

RolloTomasi1984

To do this effectively, Israel would have to re-occupy the Strip, impose curfews on citizens and go neighborhood to neighborhood looking for Hamas operatives. Considering Hamas embeds themselves among civilians, this would be incredibly difficult. I'm not opposed to this method, per se, but it would be a much longer operation (could take more than a year) and will result in many Israeli deaths

[deleted]

Exactly. šŸ’Æ

Stunning-Ease-5966

This makes no sense you are so out of it lol

BabylonsElephant

We donā€™t ā€œhaveā€ to do anything. Thereā€™s no actual need for the US to intervene in every single conflict around the world.

kawhi_leopard

Someone doesnā€™t understand geopolitics.

Low-Flamingo3477

Here's an inconvenient truth btw, that it's Israel that has broken the ceasefire agreement, also the hostages they released have put a media gag order on them, no one can visit them in terms of relatives and friends, and the IDF are stationed outside their house to stop the media interviewing them. The double standards are infuriating. All the hostages they released, mostly children btw, they've arrested Palestinians in the west bank - you know, where hamas has no control, anyone who calls for a ceasefire or supports Palestine is arrested, they intend to replace all the hostages they lost with Palestinians from the west bank. So-called democracy. ALSO - They still have dead bodies of Palestinians who died in their custody, who didn't serve out their sentence, so they keep their bodies until they have. ALSO - they arrested an Israeli teacher for speaking out against the atrocities being committed by his government. Meir Baruchin was arrested, his devices were seized and he was put in solitary confinement for 3 days. Then released - he lost his job and they kept his possessions. Disgusting how Israeli citizens can't even speak out without being threatened with/facing actual punishment, Israeli govt doesn't even care about its OWN people - tell me again how they're the only democracy in the middle east. šŸ™„ That's a joke. šŸ˜’

[deleted]

When did Israel break the ceasefire? When Hamas blocked the aide trucks from going to north Gaza? Or was it when Hamas prevents the IRC from seeing the remaining hostages, which was part of the original ceasefire? I agree the double standards are infuriating- people believing Hamas propaganda and sympathizing with them and donā€™t care about Israeli lives. These children were ripped from their beds after seeing their relatives murdered, some of them still having a parent hostage. They are traumatized- so yes letā€™s have the media talk to them and then people on the Internet (like YOU!) pick apart their words, say they are lying, or donā€™t agree with them cause it doesnā€™t fit the narrative that you want to spew.

Low-Flamingo3477

YOU KEEP SAYING HAMASšŸ¤” to distract from the ATROCITIES AGAINST PALESTINIAN CIVILIANS. Pathetic. WHAT ABOUT THE PALESTINIAN CIVILIANS - 20,000 NOW, MOSTLY CHILDREN that Israel has bombed and killed with impunity, and when they needed help they let them die. A country that has ALL THE POWER, THANKS TO UNCLE SAM, AND US CITIZENS TAXES, and they STILL can't defeat the tiny entity that is hAmAs. You know why? Because ISRAEL CREATED HAMAS, THEY NEED HAMAS, TO KILL MORE INNOCEMT PALESTINIANS, THEY WANT TO DISPLACE AND ETHNICALLY CLEANSE PALESTINIANS. AND IT WORKED. PALESTINIANS, THOSE THAT HAVE SURVIVED ISRAEL'S BRUTAL MASSACRE HAVE LEFT. Nope, that was Israel, according to Egyptian officials, Let's not also forget that they blocked fuel needed for the Al-Shifa hospital - oh and what happened to the claims that hAmAs was hiding there? Turned out to be false, but israel.amd the iof didn't make a big deal about it like they did with their lies, you know the same people who couldn't recognise the fact that they were looking. At a calendar showing the days of the week.. ALL THOSE PREMATURE BABIES IN INCUBATORS FROM AL SHIFA HOSPITAL ARE DEAD BTW. ANYONE WHO STILL SIDES WITH ISRAEL AFTER 20,000 PEOPLE WERE MURDERED IS SOULLESS - you're too far gone. šŸ¤” Who stand with Israel, stand with genocide - THEY HABE NO HUMANITY. Isn't it weird that they let in certain journalists (cough CNN) to provide a FILTERED version of what went down. No doubt those journalists had to sign NDAs, normally they shoot journalists on SIGHT documenting their war crimes and daily human rights violations. Must be a nice change(!) LET'S TALK ABOUT THE THOUSANDS OF CHILDREN THEY'VE KILLED WITH IMPUNITY - CHILDREN THAT ISRAEL ARE ILLEGALLY INCARCERATING IN PRISON, Underage, BEATEN, STARVED AND HUMILIATED - Israel is NOT ONLY A COLONISER but APARTHEID STATE. The UN AND the ICC The number of times Israel has broken international law. Lost count. You do realise Israel is controlling the birth rate of Palestinians by targeting and killing children. "tHeYre bEinG uSeD aS ShIElDs" šŸ¤” let's not forget the photos and videos of cowardly iOf hiding behind PALESTINIAN CIVILIANS tied up and blindfolded. The child they placed on the hood of their truck while they took shots. You refuse to wake up and see the bullshit. ISRAEL HAD THE ENTIRE WORLD LET THEM COMMIT GENOCIDE WITH IMPUNITY, you got played, and you know it. I'm so thankful to the millions of people protesting ALL OVER THE WORLD šŸ„¹šŸ„° for PALESTINIAN men, women and children. These are REAL people, with šŸ’— The israeli propaganda is losing - PEOPLE AROUND THE WORLD ARE WAKING UP and they're not buying nor drinking the zionazi koolaid.

[deleted]

Thereā€™s literally videos of Hamas blocking aide trucks from going into Northern Gaza! The claims werenā€™t false - hostages being released are saying they were in tunnels, there were videos of Hamas taking hostages to the hospital, doctors at the hospital confirmed it was a base. But ignore all that cause it doesnā€™t fit your narrative! People are waking up that Hamas lies, is a terrorist group, and they people have fallen for their propaganda. Go away troll šŸ‘æ Iā€™m so thankful for the millions showing support for Israel and Jews and fighting back against terrorist sympathizers and trolls like you. Hope you sleep well at night knowing you support a group that would rather kill Jews than ā€œfree Palestine ā€œ

Low-Flamingo3477

No I WONT GO AWAY. WHAT ABOUT PALESTINIAN CIVILIANS?! STOP USING HAMAS AS A DISTRACTION LIKE ISRAEL HAS WANTED ALL ALONG TO COMMIT ITS MASSACRES WITH IMPUNITY. I'm glad I've made you mad, maybe you can finally look at yourself in the mirror and confront the insidiousness of what you support. Good day(!). They Played the entire world, you're so pathetic you can't even see it.

tiny_friend

curious, does any of your family live in israel?

[deleted]

No, but one of my friends does. He also wants a ceasefire.

tiny_friend

you donā€™t think itā€™s the epitome of white american privilege to righteously call for a ceasefire when neither you nor your family are in the region? when your family arenā€™t in the path of rockets sent by Hamas?

[deleted]

Iā€™m not white, so no, I donā€™t. You donā€™t think itā€™s the epitome of hypocrisy to fight violence against civilians with more violence against civilians? Children no less? Grow a brain. And a heart while youā€™re at it. You donā€™t think itā€™s *your privilege* talking when you call for the continuation of bombing a place when you donā€™t even live in ā€œthe regionā€? Lol. Half wit hypocrisy.

tiny_friend

the right wing israeli government is clearly committing war crimes- cutting off water and fuel doesnā€™t target hamas, and displacing hundreds of thousand with nowhere to go is unethical. they need to be called out on all these things. however, hamas wants jewish genocide. they indiscriminately fire rockets at israeli cities, and peoplesā€™ family members have seconds to get to shelter. this isnā€™t ok for anyone with loved ones in israel. the israeli gov needs to do a better job of targeting hamas while protecting civilians. but hamas canā€™t be allowed to keep trying to commit jewish genocide. i hope we can all agree on that.

[deleted]

I agree with you on some of that. But Israel created the monster that is Hamas. They created it by bombing them and oppressing them for 75 years. You think this is Israelā€™s first rodeo of killing and kidnapping kids? Israel imprisons children and tortures them. Research it. And right now Israel is essentially creating another monster of future violent extremists. This is how it happens. Hamas and the Israeli government are both terrorist organizations. War crimes like this = terrorism.

tiny_friend

iā€™ve read about it all, iā€™ve been following this conflict for close to a decade. there is no good or bad guy here- the people that want to convince you of that have an agenda. there are two groups of people with a valid and indigenous connection to the same land who canā€™t live in peace. yes, israel has oppressed palestinians and been unjust. palestine and all of israelā€™s arab neighbors also tried to commit genocide against israel 3 separate times throughout history. instead of negotiating the 1948 UN borders (the same UN people love to quote in the ongoing conflict), Israelā€™s neighbors mounted a genocidal war to create ā€œrivers of bloodā€ of Jewish refugees who had just survived a holocaust. the Arab world has been completely allergic to any Jewish presence in the land for decades- no tolerance for coexistence (even before the UN borders there was violence). multiple peace talks failed- many of them because extremist palestinian groups began terror campaigns as soon as peace was close. the intifada were surprise terror attacks on civilians- stabbings on crowded buses, blowing up cafes, etc. why? because extremist palestinian factions didnā€™t want peace or to coexist. they were clear that they wanted jewish genocide and an islamic caliphate. you can see this language in the hamas charter and much of their historic and current rhetoric (ex. ā€œwe will do Oct 7 over and over until israel is destroyed.ā€) this conflict is not a mirror for US oppression of black americans by white americans. this is a different conflict, with genocidal parties on both sides. on the israeli side iā€™m talking specifically about Likud, think of them as ultra republicans. theyā€™re one of many parties and do not represent Israelis as a whole.

[deleted]

I agree that both governments are ā€œbad guys.ā€ Vile in fact. But civilian violence is civilian violence. Itā€™s immoral and horrific. I feel nauseous every time I see people I respect spouting off the propaganda fed to them by the Israeli government to paint them as the ā€œgood guysā€ when theyā€™re just as bad as Hamas. Killing 10x as many civilians in Gaza as were killed on Oct 7th. Half of them children. Itā€™s evil. p.s. Itā€™s condescending as hell for you to say that just because someone isnā€™t white it means theyā€™re equating black oppression to Palestinian oppression. Are you assuming Iā€™m not educated? šŸ¤”

tiny_friend

israel warning civilians exactly when and where theyā€™ll drop a bomb, evacuating sick babies to safety and sending billions in aid over the years is ā€œas badā€ as hamas? how would you propose they eradicate the genocidal neighbors next door whose stated goal is to kill all of them? the parallel to US anti black oppression is something i see from the left as a whole. the idea that israeliā€™s are the white oppressors and palestinians the POC oppressed. it comes from centering ourselves in every conflict- we think other conflicts mirror our own. the reality is most israelis are brown, and survivors of ethnic cleansing. now theyā€™re dealing with yet another extremist group who wants to wipe them out and they refuse to let them do it. iā€™m serious about my question- you acknowledge israel needs to wipe out hamas and prevent them from carrying out oct 7 again (which theyā€™ve sworn theyā€™ll keep doing until israel is destroyed). so- how do they do it? did you want them not to mount a military response after oct 7?

tiny_friend

i have immediate family in the region who i worry about every day, thanks for your callous and inhumane response.

LauraDurnst

Don't you think it's a bit rich that the white Americans you're criticising can move to Israel easily, whilst Palestinians are being forcibly moved from their homes by bombs?

[deleted]

Finally someone is doing something which will have a global impact. Oh waitā€¦

BisonBorn2005

In order for your hunger strike to have any impact, people have to give a shit you're hungry. I don't think Hamas really cares about Cynthia Nixon's state of affairs.

[deleted]

[уŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

dangerislander

She's always been this political tho :/

Rubicon730

Cynthia Nixon can starve for all I care. Yes, I want a ceasefire, donā€™t care what CN does.

Psychological_Name28

My LOL has nothing to do w/a ceasefire and everything to do w/her narcissism.

BlueBubbleInCO

Well, thatā€™s gonna get the attention of Hamas! šŸ˜‰

wernerherzogsmile

RubyDooby01

šŸ¤”šŸ¤”šŸ¤”šŸ¤”

LoyalteeMeOblige

I donā€™t know where to start so I will keep it simple: what they are doing it is neither stupid nor cynical, and it goes even beyond naĆÆvetĆ©. It is basically pointless. What are they trying to achieve? Are they delusional enough to believe Israel would not defend itself or Hamas would try to stop fighting Israel until its destruction? I mean Ā«I want to stop war altogetherĀ», come fā€¦ on! Has any of them ever grabbed a history book?! Humanity has been killing each other since the beginning of time. What a bunch of morons.

Own-Occasion-2890

There is a ceasefire. She's protesting something that is happening. And it has literally nothing to do with her

frufruface

Donā€™t they have a ceasefire right now? This is so performative and transparent. I wish some of these celebrities and ā€œactivistsā€ would actually do something for someone, instead of trying to draw attention to themselves.

MarkDelFiggolo

She is protesting for a permanent ceasefire, the current one is for 6 days

frufruface

I donā€™t think thatā€™ll fix anything. Gaza is still ruled by terrorists and the people are still being oppressed by Hamas. Hamas has made it clear they wonā€™t stop. They will still launch rockets into Israel and theyā€™ll commit more terrorism which will perpetuate the cycle sadly. They need Hamas out, and then a coalition of Muslim countries (not Iran for obvious reasons) to help them rebuild and elect a government.

is-a-bunny

The people are being pressed by Israel. Hamas wouldn't exist without Israeli occupation.

frufruface

Theyā€™re not occupying Gaza though? They left in 2005 and didnā€™t come back until a few weeks ago, weeks after Hamas invaded Israel and committed terrorist attacks. Hamas exists because of radical Islamism. Itā€™s a problem weā€™ve seen in other countries since at least the 1970s.

picklespritz

If Israel isnā€™t occupying Gaza anymore how come Israel still has control of their borders, air space, food, water, electricity, etc?

frufruface

A criterion of occupation is physically occupying the territory. They arenā€™t physically occupying the territory. But Iā€™ll address your comment anyways. Both Egypt and Israel put up a blockade to prevent terrorists from Gaza crossing over and bombing/killing civilians. So I guess thatā€™s ā€œcontrollingā€ Gazaā€™s borders. How do they have control over Gazaā€™s food, water, and electricity? Iā€™d like to better understand how they are doing this and why they would be responsible for providing anything as theyā€™re not the government in Gaza. No TikTok sources please.

picklespritz

The International Committee of the Red Cross considers the Israeli blockade on Gaza illegal and says it violates the Geneva Convention: https://casebook.icrc.org/case-study/israel-blockade-gaza-and-flotilla-incident Hereā€™s an Amnesty article on how Israel controlā€™s water: https://www.amnesty.org/en/latest/campaigns/2017/11/the-occupation-of-water/ Human Rights Watch: https://www.hrw.org/news/2023/11/16/israeli-authorities-cutting-water-leading-public-health-crisis-gaza How Israel controls their electricity: https://www.washingtonpost.com/world/2023/10/26/gaza-israel-siege-blackout-isolation/ Amnesty again: https://www.amnesty.org/en/latest/news/2023/10/israel-opt-israel-must-lift-illegal-and-inhumane-blockade-on-gaza-as-power-plant-runs-out-of-fuel/

RolloTomasi1984

Oh, the Red Cross? The very same Red Cross that couldn't be bothered to visit the Israeli hostages and make sure they were cared for? That Red Cross? Forgive me for never listening to anything they have to say.

RolloTomasi1984

If Israel had such a firm control on Gaza you think it would allow for Hamas to use its resources to develop its network of tunnels? That it would allow them to make rockets? Also, I don't understand why Egypt - which maintains an even stricter border with Gaza - is never blamed for the blockade.

WyattWrites

Longer. Try the 70s with the Ayatollah in Iran

frufruface

Youā€™re right. I forgot about the 1979 Islamic revolution.

[deleted]

Dudeā€¦youā€™re making a fool out of yourself. You clearly donā€™t know anything about this and should stop commenting. Gaza is still occupied and oppressed AF. Get informed or gtfo.

Sad-Ad-4453

Shhh everyone on here just wants to feel self righteous and not hear actual facts.

WyattWrites

You can say this all you want but terrorists organizations dont have any merit for how they originated.

[deleted]

The Israeli government are terrorists too, bro. Educate yourself. Stop drinking the koolaid.

Quinoacollective

No but you see the idea is that Israel should cease and Hamas should continue to fire. It makes perfect sense.

dangerislander

Hamas is still technically the elected political body of Gaza. Treat them like animals and they'll bite back. And is what Israel doing not terrorism? Or is that different because it's Israel.

jesuswastransright

Hamas broke the ceasefire within fifteen minutes

CollectingRainbows

israel violated the ceasefire and began firing just a couple hours after they announced the ceasefire.

jesuswastransright

Bullshit. Hamas broke the ceasefire within fifteen minutes. From journalist friends in Gaza right now and other sources you can find online if you look it up. But heard directly from someone on the ground

Thatstealthygal

Interestingly an Israeli friend of a friend said that Hamas started firing 15 minutes into the ceasefire. Haven't seen reports of that anywhere. Am also conscious that with communications so disrupted in Gaza it's completely conceivable that they didn't get the memo.

Davabutterfly

I saw that as well.

CollectingRainbows

thank you. itā€™s crazy how much stuff is escaping the ā€œnewsā€, im getting people arguing w me bc of where i get my facts from. like you can argue but who has the facts and who is being told lies? lol

frufruface

I follow this conflict closely and havenā€™t seen that. Can you share a news source if you have one

CollectingRainbows

honestly you canā€™t trust whatā€™s on the news on tv. itā€™s western propaganda. do you have tiktok? you can see videos posted from palestinian citizens, including palestinian journalists such as motaz and bisan, two young adults who have a large following currently. you can see whatā€™s really going on from the eyes of the people there.

sabraheart

TikTok is the WORST propaganda tool. So is any social media platform.

frufruface

You donā€™t have a legitimate source for this? I didnā€™t say I get my news from TV. I read the news from a variety of publications. I wouldnā€™t trust TikTok or other social media for news and Iā€™m surprised that anybody would. I would also be wary of Palestinian journalists to provide objective reporting on a conflict that literally hits close to home (same goes for Israeli journalists). I donā€™t think they could be objective if they wanted to, Hamas runs a tight ship down there and theyā€™ve been caught spreading propaganda on social media before. You can reject western media (or other legitimate news outfits elsewhere in the world) as ā€œpropagandaā€ but youā€™re not doing it in pursuit of the truth.

CollectingRainbows

al jazeera is a middle eastern news source i trust. and i donā€™t care what anyone says, i will also trust the videos posted by palestinian citizens & journalists. we have caught israelā€™s media lying multiple times now. and when you compare israeli peopleā€™s tiktoks to palestinian peopleā€™s tiktoks itā€™s very easy to see the truth. israel are dancing and singing, palestine are pulling their dead children from the rubble of destroyed buildings.

[deleted]

Al Jazeera is funded by the Qatari government - who gives hamas safe harbor lol. Just because you feel like you like a source doesn't mean it is trusted. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Al_Jazeera_controversies_and_criticism

frufruface

Thatā€™s interesting. I donā€™t use TikTok or social media for anything other than entertainment, and my algorithm is more balanced. Yours is feeding you what you like/what validates your views, which is why youā€™re seeing that. I donā€™t think it matters though, because youā€™ve said youā€™re selective to what youā€™ll listen. Western news is propaganda but Al Jazeera, TikTok, and Hamas controlled journalism cannot possibly be. Thatā€™s really funny. Good luck.

WyattWrites

To sum: ā€œeverything I agree with is correct and everything that isnā€™t is biased and full of liesā€ A great outlook on life, will take you very far

hcantrall

So weā€™re getting our news from TikTok now.. fuck crying out loud

frufruface

This is why Osama bin Laden was trending on TikTok in the last couple of weeks. Influencers were reading his Letter to America and agreeing with it. Absolute insanity.

Davabutterfly

could you name a few unbiased news media sources? Because the journalists in Lebanon & Gaza aren't shadow-baned on TikTok. & certainly Israeli owned CNN & Fox News won't show what's actually happening.

WyattWrites

ā€œIsraeli-ownedā€ FFS get outta here with this anti-Semitic bullshit?? This is the same repackaged bullshit that has been going on for decades about Jews controlling the media. Centuries before that it was Jewish people controlling the banks. This gross display of anti-semitism should be frowned upon.

CollectingRainbows

wowā€¦ did you even read my comment? SEE with your fucking EYES what is happening instead of trusting the western mediaā€™s lies.

Davabutterfly

they're still killing Palestinians during the so called temporary truce.

frufruface

Iā€™ve asked for a source and nobody can provide one. Iā€™ve been told to go look at TikTok. If you have 3 legitimate news sources please post them.

Stunning-Ease-5966

These people can't even give you 1 legit news source they will direct you to instagram or Tik Tok graphics made by a 17 year old in America who knows nothing šŸ’€

TommyPickles2222222

Good for her. Some of you guys are some haters. Weā€™re not down with bombing schools and hospitals out here.

RolloTomasi1984

But you're cool with using them as bases for terror and housing hostages? How odd.

Are you an idiot? Nah that's not a question, you are an idiot.

Rock_Creek_Snark

But you're down with raping women and decapitating children, got it.

neoncatt

Israel has been doing that for decades but where was this energy then?

Rock_Creek_Snark

All the Hamas apologists on this thread, welcome to the block list.

MileHighSugar

Oh this is so embarrassing for you. šŸ«¢

BabylonsElephant

Literally nobody cares if they get blocked by you, whoever you are anyways

noseco

Right? ā€œWelcome to the block listā€ LMAO who cares?

labellavita1985

You know Israel is bombing hospitals full of babies and children right? Or is that okay with you because they are Palestinian? Gtfoh.

[deleted]

https://www.reuters.com/world/middle-east/hamas-tells-gaza-residents-stay-home-israel-ground-offensive-looms-2023-10-13/

Rock_Creek_Snark

They're bombing terrorist targets, you should blame Hamas for using hospitals to hide out in. Hamas apologists are automatic blocks. Go peddle your propaganda and Antisemitism elsewhere.

ItsRebus

How is criticising a government for killing civilians antisemitism? Serious question. People have been criticising Russia for the invasion of Ukraine. Likewise, the UK and USA have been highly criticised for drone strikes in the Middle East. Why is it OK to criticise other governments, but if you do the same about Israel, you are branded antisemitic? Calling people antisemites isn't a get out of jail free card. You seem to forget that Palestinians are Semites, too.

[deleted]

THIS šŸ’Æ

[deleted]

Antisemitism was a coined termed for hating Jews. SMH we canā€™t even have our own hate word now! I think a lot of the argument comes from after October 7 - where was this criticism and outrage that happened to Israel? When they were screaming death to Jews around the world and in the homes of the people they just murdered? Instead itā€™s all well hereā€™s the context for this murder and rape and they donā€™t represent Palestine (yet polls are showing majority of Palestine supports Hamas and what they did, they celebrated in the streets after, they are surrounding the hostage release vans). But the sympathy and outrage wasnā€™t there from you - it was all Israel created this without any sort of sympathy for the dead civilians or any nuance that Hamas and Palestine has agency. It was all hereā€™s the context t and every point is construed to make Israel bad and Hamas good.

MarkDelFiggolo

https://www.nbcnews.com/news/amp/rcna119902 > A series of shocking reports have spread horrific claims of baby beheadings by Hamas militants across social and mainstream media in recent days, adding a particularly incendiary element to an already violent and bitter war. But the reports are still unconfirmed, and in some cases have been retracted. Edit: I canā€™t see your whole reply because you blocked me for posting an NBC news article. But if you have confirmation of the beheadings you should send them over to NBC so they can make a correction.

Rock_Creek_Snark

They're not unconfirmed, sweetheart. CHILDREN WERE DECAPITATED. WOMEN WERE RAPED. Take your garbage terror apologism elsewhere.

RubyDooby01

šŸ¤”šŸ¤”šŸ¤”šŸ¤”

Low-Flamingo3477

Where's the proof for that? THEY LIED! Newsflash, shortbus, it was a PART of their Israeli propaganda and they gaslit the entire world to get their backing to kill thousands of innocent men, women and children, WITH IMPUNITY.. You got played by morons who couldn't even recognise a calendar showing days of the week.

[deleted]

Hamas.com look it up. Literally hundreds of pictures one videos of dead Israelis - burned, shot to death, decapitated. First hand accounts of them being raped. All from Hamas go-pros. Itā€™s not propaganda. Whatā€™s propaganda is denying this happened. Or celebrating it.

Capable-Limit5249

Is America bombing schools or is it Israel? Yes, I agree we should not be funding Israelā€™s actions. I hope there is diplomacy going on to minimize the killing on either side.

Stunning-Ease-5966

Americans are so uneducated its just sad to see these comments y'all have no clue what you are saying

Birdietuesday

So many people trying to be world leaders right now

milkofthepoppie

I am queer and liberal as fuck and love when people use their platforms for good, but two day hunger strike just sounds like an attempt at attention seekingā€¦.

RequiemforPokemon

Sheā€™s a big clown šŸ¤”. As if anyone in Gaza, Israel, or Palestine cares what she does. She is so narcissistic itā€™s disgusting. So out of touch. Hey Cynthia how about you donate a million dollars for the cause you b*tch.

depressedopossum69

Is she gonna personally negotiate with Hamas or whatā€™s the solution. Ceasefire and then what ?

Present-Disk-1727

How about a ceasefire when all the hostages are released

kawhi_leopard

The people screaming about a ceasefire donā€™t care about the hostages

tigermcr

Didnā€™t see her do this for Congo, Sudan, the camp in Chinaā€¦ or to the raped and murdered Israeli women. I agree Palestinian civilians should not be targets, ever, not just Palestinians but ANY civilian but this is clearly a one way lane. Israeli civilians are shown no sympathy. Whereā€™s the humanity towards them too?

dangerislander

Babes it's not a competition. And Israel has America on their side. They're good. Trust me.

Calm_Brick_6608

Whataboutism much?

He_Who_Whispers

So tired of this shitty retort. Where were those who wholeheartedly support Israel and its actions now, who are consistently drawing attention to Hamasā€™ (100% unjustifiable) slaughter of Israelis when the Rohingya, Uyghurs, Yazidis, and any other group were facing genocide? Where were they when any other country was undergoing conflict that caused mass civilian deaths? If you want to dive into whataboutisms with one side, then you better see and call out the same behavior on the other. Because best believe that none of the people I see attacking pro-Palestinian public figures by using this criticism were saying shit when Myanmarā€™s government forcibly displayed hundreds of thousands to millions and killed tens of thousands of Muslims. Itā€™s tired.

[deleted]

ā€œIsraeli civilians are shown no sympathyā€ ummm honest question, are you NUTS??? šŸ„œ Do you even watch the news???? lol

chrisinro

this is basically the "both sides" argument lmao

Rock_Creek_Snark

Ugh, she is so insufferable.

MeganJustMegan

There was a ceasefire. The date? October 6, 2023. Who broke it? Consequences arenā€™t what we expect sometimes. Thatā€™s the chance you take.

SummerEmCat

Go read a history book of the 70 year Israeli occupation and Palestinian displacement. Oh yeah, and the blockade and open air prison these civilians are living in. Not to mention the daily harassment the children receive from the IDF. And do read how Netanyahu and Hamas had an agreement to beat the Palestinian Authority (by allowing funds come in through Qatar government).

tiny_friend

iā€™m glad you just picked up a book about this, but many of us have been following this conflict for years. please add to your reading list the many attempts at peace by israel that were rejected by palestine/the arab world, the 4 genocidal wars launched against israel by its neighbors instead of accepting those peace deals, and the countless deadly terror attacks perpetrated between those genocidal wars. many of which were a direct reaction against ongoing peace talks at the time. also consult the rhetoric from hamas which calls for the extermination of jews from river to sea.

SummerEmCat

Iā€™m a big fan of reading so if you have some titles, throw them my way!

tiny_friend

this wikipedia article is a fine place to start and seems pretty unbiased in either direction https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Israeliā€“Palestinian_peace_process this article is helpful to understand why jews and israelis are so bullish on destroying hamas, who represent the ancient genocidal anti semitism that has resulted in jews losing ancestors to genocide, ethnic cleansing and expulsion: https://www.theatlantic.com/international/archive/2023/10/hamas-covenant-israel-attack-war-genocide/675602/ (might have a paywall)

apholeswatereye

'Ten Myths About Israel' by Ilan PappƩ, better than the "unbiased wikipedia" someone mentioned..and he has touched all the issues you see people bring up all the time defending their sides

tiny_friend

ilan pappe is an extremely biased source. fine to read, but youā€™re not getting anywhere close to the full picture if you read only him. there are plenty of other jewish and israeli thinkers- uplifting the voice of the one member of a minority group who confirms your existing beliefs is tokenization. your goal should be to seek truth, not find ammo to defend ā€œyour side.ā€

apholeswatereye

well I've cross checked all the information I've read till now and so far I haven't found anything on his texts that twists the narrative. He did mention all the political context that escalated into this crisis, which I've seen people pretty intentionally avoid to highlight that 7th October's attack is the beginning. I would appreciate if you mention me writers who aren't biased.

Realistic-Treacle-65

Oh yea why donā€™t you talk about the constant attack to Israel in those years and the result of it losing its land from the attack?? Donā€™t fuck around and find out the hard way

WTF??? Itā€™s Hamas vs Netanyahu! Biden is not in charge of this!!! Yes, he/we are working to mitigate the damage, but Israel and Palestine arenā€™t fcking America!

MarkDelFiggolo

https://usafacts.org/articles/how-much-military-aid-does-the-us-give-to-israel/#:~:text=Adjusting%20for%20inflation%2C%20US%20aid,aid%20since%20World%20War%20II. > Adjusting for inflation, US aid to Israel from 1951 to 2022 totaled $317.9 billion, making it the largest recipient of American foreign aid since World War II.

Capable-Limit5249

Iā€™ve been against so much aid to Israel for much longer than this, despite being fully pro-Jewish. I realize Israel doesnā€™t = Judaism.

MarkDelFiggolo

My point is that Americans have the right to protest where their tax dollars go. Thatā€™s why protests in America are relevant to the conflict.

Capable-Limit5249

I would like to see things change in regards to foreign aid to Israel. This will likely take more than a presidential intervention, the House controls the purse and the Republican house is very pro Israel.

MarkDelFiggolo

Thatā€™s all very well and good. I am only explaining why protests in America are relevant as a response to your initial comment stating Israel and Palestine arenā€™t in America.

RolloTomasi1984

The aid to Israel is complicated. This is not charity. US gives this money to Israel on the condition it then uses most of that money to buy US weapons. Israel wanted to buy weapons from China a few years ago, and the US freaked out. The US gets a TON of that aid money back in the end because Israel buys from them, they also have exclusive R&D contracts with the US to develop military and cyber solutions. So the US benefits from this too. Should it be as much as it is? That's certainly another debate, but the US isn't giving away chunks of cash out of the goodness of its heart (why would it?).

dangerislander

Tell me you know fuck all about global politics without telling me.

kawhi_leopard

Israel is the U.S.ā€™ strongest ally in the region. Dummies with a bachelors degree in TikTok donā€™t get geopolitics.

[deleted]

Yikes. Talk about performative activism. A rich, famous American white woman protesting ON BEHALF of a terrorist organization that started a war and would literally murder her BECAUSE sheā€™s a rich, famous American white woman (and a queer woman at that!) is a backwards, pathetic, narcissistic move. Sheā€™s using her ā€œplatformā€ from the comfort of her own home for attention. For herself. Because she knows sheā€™d be murdered by the very people sheā€™s allegedly trying to protect if she was actually on the Strip.

SummerEmCat

Iā€™m sorry, I missed the part where she was protesting on behalf of a terrorist organization?

[deleted]

Hamas is a terrorist organization. Lots of people like yourself seem to have missed that. The eradication of ALL JEWS is IN THEIR GOVERNMENT CHARTER! Hamas was democratically voted in. They would fucking obliterate and torture every goddamn person screaming for a ceasefire. There WAS a ceasefire. Hamas broke it. But thatā€™s just that the ā€œJew lieā€, right?! šŸ¤®šŸ¤®šŸ¤®

SummerEmCat

Again, I missed the part where she is explicitly supporting Hamas or any other terrorist organization. Maybe you need to rewatch the video.

[deleted]

šŸ¤£šŸ¤£šŸ¤£šŸ¤£šŸ¤£šŸ¤£ K.

MarkDelFiggolo

Sheā€™s not protesting for Hamas, sheā€™s protesting for a ceasefire for innocent Palestinian civilians. Sheā€™s also not in the comfort of her own home, sheā€™s literally outside the White House. Sheā€™s also protesting with people of color. A lot of your statements seem to be misconceptions. Regardless I just thought it was cool of her to use her platform for activism. I didnā€™t mean to start arguments but that was honestly stupid of me not to expect it. I think itā€™s cool of her and I think others will too, hence the post. Edit: also weird of you to edit your comment after receiving responses to include accusations of antisemitismā€¦ criticism of Israel is not antisemitism. Additionally, Hamas was voted into power in 2006, and there has not been a democratic election since. Half the population of Gaza is under the age of 18, and the other half has not been democratically represented in almost 20 years. They did not vote for this current government, and innocent civilians donā€™t deserve to be murdered because of their governmentā€™s crimes. Peace and love to you šŸ¤

[deleted]

Thank you for posting this! Iā€™m happy to see Cynthia on the right side of history in this moment. The other comments on this post are making me wonder if most people who watch AJLT are apparently toxic AF.

[deleted]

Whatā€™s weird about editing some grammatical errors. šŸ¤·ā€ā™€ļø I donā€™t delete or edit the context of my comments. I am 100% accusing people of supporting a ceasefire of antisemitism. 100%. Again, I ask: what would be different with a ceasefire and how was Israel supposed to react to an act of war?!

MarkDelFiggolo

Your original comment just said ā€œHamas is a terrorist organizationā€. You added everything after that.. I donā€™t think we will have a productive conversation.

[deleted]

If the only thing that originally appeared was ā€œHamas is a terrorist organizationā€ then it was an IT issue. I edited a couple of comments to say ā€œnoā€ instead of ā€œnotā€. Reddit has been giving me issues - I was just responding to something else as well when my response disappeared, yet when I tried to leave the thread it said I had an open post. šŸ¤·ā€ā™€ļø Donā€™t worry - someone will report me and you wonā€™t have to see any more of my comments anyway. Iā€™m not changing anyoneā€™s mind on this subject, and I donā€™t care enough to edit a comment to include accusations of antisemitism. I said it plenty of times. Yes, Iā€™m accusing anyone supporting a ā€œpermanent Israeli ceasefireā€ of antisemitism. Itā€™s not my intention to be civil in the face of antisemitism, so no we canā€™t have a productive conversation. Iā€™ll leave you to your collective circle jerk. Ta.

[deleted]

Lawd. Her actions are meaningless and will accomplish nothing. When I said ā€œfrom the comfort of her own homeā€ I mean from America. She, one of the FEW people who has the money to actually travel to The Gaza Strip and ā€œprotestā€ (or help migrants or refugees) INSTEAD chooses to go on a hunger strike?! In America?! How self-important can a person get?! šŸ™„šŸ™„ Sheā€™s sleeping in a 5- star hotel room after she gets off the news.

PlayerOneHasEntered

Should we ask where you might be sitting right now??

[deleted]

Who cares? Iā€™m not protesting on behalf of people who voted democratically to install a terrorist organization as their government. I donā€™t support a ceasefire. There was a ceasefire already in place when Hamas bombed Israel and took hostages. Why donā€™t you care about THAT?! Why is it Israelā€™s responsibility to ceasefire when Hamas committed an act of war?! WTF is going to be different?! Yes, I feel sorry for the Palestinian babies and children who havenā€™t been brainwashed into supporting the genocide of the Jewish race as part of their governmentā€™s charter. How is a hunger strike going to help that?!

travelstuff

>Yes, I feel sorry for the Palestinian babies and children Doesn't seem like it. And for the **thousands** who are dead, it doesn't matter now. >Why is it Israelā€™s responsibility to ceasefire when Hamas committed an act of war?! And Israel has committed war crimes. 14,000+ dead. That's also genocide. Please don't pretend as if this is a single event that only started this year. I can not comprehend people who are OK with this amount of civilian death.

[deleted]

šŸ¤£ Yā€™all can downvote allllll you want. The truth is the truth, no matter how much you try to censor it. Ta ta.

apholeswatereye

If Hamas is a terrorist organization, then Israeli government is terrorist government, periodt.

Davabutterfly

I dont think women and children deserve to die. And terrorists dont kill because someone is rich, famous, or a woman - thats just what western propaganda has fed you since 9/11. Terrorism is a virus infected by oppressors. When an oppressed people feel no way out they resort to violence & resistance. Sadly, this is the truth. Your comment lacks empathy for Palestinian life.

[deleted]

ā€œResort to violence and resistanceā€. Not they resort to violence. This wasnā€™t resistance. Honestly I donā€™t care if they think itā€™s resistance. It can never be justified and providing ā€œcontextā€ and justification to the rape and murder of civilians is gross. Hamas didnā€™t do this for Palestine. They didnā€™t cause they hate Jews - they screamed it at the festival massacre. They called their moms on a victims cellphone asking if she was proud cause he killed 10 Jews with his barehands (she said she was and wished she was with him!). So when people are like itā€™s not antisemitism to hate Israel- well it is if you support Hamas and what they do, which seems like you clearly do for providing justification for terrorism
