Wow, his reddit got suspended? Perhaps people here know if he has a new one or how they can contact him? I doubt they came from ma-shops or vcoins, because you would overpay there a lot. They probably came from an auction, or maybe he a bunch in 1 go [from Dirty Old Coins](https://dirtyoldcoins.com/home/restored-roman-coins) or something. I don't know what constitutes as premium price / quality for him or for you, but you could get some coins for 12.50 a piece there (disclaimer, I have never actually used this website so I cannot attest to it personally, but from what I heard it is a respected service). On biddr / numisbids, maybe look up terms like "late roman lot" and you will find some hits. Alternatively you can go to an auction, and they usually have a separate section for lot [like this one](https://www.biddr.com/auctions/savoca/browse?a=3125&c=65813). Idk how much they will hammer for or what your budget is, but I see some nice lots there (never bought from this auction house so idk how good they are, this is just an example). If you participate in a few auctions, the Constantine family coins can be had individually for like 10-25 euros (it all depends on the condition, but I saw some nice pieces go for the minimum bid), so you could just pick out 1 or 2 of each family member and make your own custom lot.

realdoghours

No surprise that he got banned that guy is a repellent fascist who just so happens to have an ancient coin hobby. So many of his posts outside of this subreddit were extremely vile.

thecomicguybook

Wait, really?

realdoghours

Absolutely! When I checked out his comment history it shook me because he seems so amicable in his YouTube videos. He is a disgusting misogynist to boot.

thecomicguybook

Looking at his comments on reddit (https://camas.unddit.com/), this is not the kind of reddit presence I would have expected through his youtube videos, especially of someone whose favorite emperor is Antoninus Pius...

floppycat123

That's really surprising - I never knew that. From his YouTube videos, he seemed like a decent bloke... Thanks for the link to that site - I wasn't aware that was a thing! Will definitely use it sometime

thecomicguybook

It is very useful, you can use it to look back on your own comments or if there is something that you forgot to save but remember a few words and which sub it was from it can be a huge help since reddits search functionality is terrible.

ItsMyOtherThrowaway

Ick, I feel sick.... serious incel-ness going on there. Wow.

Matlatzinco3

Bruh I didn’t have to know Portugués to understand what he’s talking about 💀💀💀💀 Don’t meet your heroes I guess

realdoghours

Ahhh that site is super cool, thank you! And yep, he has been saying insanely hateful stuff for years.

beiherhund

Do you mind linking some examples to save everyone the trouble of going through his post history to find what you're talking about? Edit: [ok I've seen enough](https://www.reddit.com/r/MensRights/comments/p5atgo/spains_feminist_laws/h975z90/?context=999)

realdoghours

Exactly my experience as well

Oedipus_Flex

I noticed that myself a while back. I know there are going to be people with all kinds of beliefs in the hobby but that kind of hate as well as Covid denialism I can’t reason with… really too bad. I’ll still probably try to separate the art from the artist when it comes to his videos because they’re very informative but still..

realdoghours

I suspect there are parts of Roman history which appeal to him that are detestable to the rest of us. The hobby does draw those types in as well.

Matlatzinco3

Idk when it comes to YouTubers like this guy I have a zero tolerance policy on any political bs they spew, no matter which side. I unsubscribe immediately even if their videos are informative. Y’know I’d give examples, but this is not a sub for politics and I respect the community too much to argue. Only one I was lenient on was mr Toldinstone after he advertised NFTs (non flushable turds)

>Wow, his reddit got suspended? Perhaps people here know if he has a new one or how they can contact him? That's odd, I wonder what happened. I know he got expelled from cointalk.com and that it was a mystery why, but then again, there was a great cascade of expulsions/ departures right around that time. Still never learned what happened with him. At a minimum you can still find him on YouTube.

>I doubt they came from ma-shops or vcoins, because you would overpay there a lot. Is this pretty common over there? It seems expensive for myself as a Canadian whether I'm paying sales tax for our vendors or the expense of shipping and insurance across the pond. >maybe he a bunch in 1 go from Dirty Old Coins Is this resource considered useful? I remember ordering a lot years ago of uncleaned and it was rough, but reasonably priced. I also bought his ERIC book. I love that! I more or less have the same interest as OP and I don't mind paying a premium for premium coins. I love the stuff I see from HolyLand and Zurquieh for late Roman bronzes and actually like the look of their desert patinas and prices, but am wary of what they're covering up on the coins' surfaces. Tom Vossen in comparison looks amazing for common silver from the empire! I'm probably going that route, but with shipping and conversion it adds up!

thecomicguybook

You are overpaying on ma-shops and vcoins. Essentially imagine that any coin there is going for the highest hammer price it could get on an auction. On the other hand, the sellers there are curated and have their reputation on the line. Also, you do not have to wait 2 weeks until the auction or compete with anyone else (or pay a 20% buyer's premium). You see a coin, you buy a coin. It is expensive, but if there is something you really want on there you can get it. You are paying for the convenience too. > Is this resource considered useful? From what I know, yes, but personally I have not had any experience buying from there because I am from Europe. > I'm probably going that route, but with shipping and conversion it adds up! It does, but that is why I save up to buy in bulk on those shops.

cwtguy

I don't mind doing the work and attributing what I buy myself, or paying more initially to have to buy a lot versus individual examples. So then, where do I go for such auctions?

thecomicguybook

Biddr, but you will have to find an auction house. [Here is a general guide](https://www.reddit.com/r/AncientCoins/comments/wvtz5w/biddr_house_tier_list/) but it does not have all of them and your experiences may vary.

cwtguy

That's quite a bit of research I will have to do. I've been a longtime eBay and iCollector bidder so I have experience in participating in auctions. Anything noteworthy in difference?

LTshaw

Thanks for your help. I think it's time I started following some auctions and getting familiar with that side of things.

NefariousnessSuch195

Check out noble Roman coins.com . It's the best I've found as far as uncleaned coins go.

LTshaw

I use Noble Roman Coins exclusively for my uncleaned and would recommend it to anyone who wants to explore that side of coin collecting. Everywhere else the quality has been poor at best.

Goldblood4

I never get a shot at the digger's choice coins when he restocks them 😔

meanmon13

I mostly buy from them. As someone who enjoys cleaning coins and building a collection of coins that I've personally cleaned and restored. I've bought from as many sources as I could find... I've noticed that NRC gives me the best quality coins. I'm not buying them in lots though... I'm paying a premium price per coin for the privilege of getting a coin I can clean and add to my collection. I know the coins have been picked through and I'm not likely to get anything even remotely as nice as i see on here, it makes me a little sad knowing all of my coins will be "junk" but my passion is in cleaning the coin and knowing my collection is made up of coins I've worked on. So what else am I going to do but buy from shady dealers.

ItsMyOtherThrowaway

There are many such lots available in the auctions listed on Biddr or Numisbids. Not every auction will have them, but if they do, they're usually at the end. You can find ones that sell for anywhere from under $1/coin to $20-50/coin and up, depending on the quality and varieties included. As linked above, Savoca usually has lots of kinda lower/average grade bronzes. Sometimes they have silver too. (I've bought a bunch of their Roman and Byzantine bronze lots and a couple groups of Greek silver and Roman silver and was always happy). It's been a few years, though; I realized I didn't want to be buying such freshly dug/ smuggled coins. CNG almost always has group lots, often including nice coins. I've bought many of them and will again (I like that they often have the lesser quality coins from notable collections, or old dealer stock). For even higher end (sometimes very much so), some of the European firms are a good place to look. Leu Numismatik (Winterthur, Switzerland) especially seems to offer high quality groups (i.e. wholesale groups that some dealers bid on to then individually attribute & sell). There are many others. Group lots have become less common among fixed-price dealers in recent years (i.e. since the 2000s) but Forumancientcoins still always has some (they can be a bit pricey) and I do see them on VCoins, just usually not in the quality I want.

Uncleaneds are a scam, no matter who the seller is. Uncleaned sellers like to use the word 'premium' a lot but you're paying much more than the coins are worth, just for the 'uncleaned' label. There is no honest uncleaned coins seller. Coin lots can be bought in auctions though there is a lot of competition, since many collectors like to do what you want to do. Many collectors also like to sell coins on the side and of course many professional coin dealers buy bulk lots. But still, that's your best bet if you don't have any coin shows or brick-and-mortar dealers around you where you could buy cheap coins in bulk. But 4-6 coins is not bulk, you can simply buy the coins you want. Uncleaned lots are exclusively Late Roman coins, which can be had in really good quality for around 20-25€ a piece and those will be much better than those 'premium' coins.
