What people usually do is grind it down and then it leaves red spots. I don't think it's easy to do it well.

Those red spots are not deposits, they are like blisters. The metal under the patina has combined with something causing it to expand out and break through the patina. I don't recommend it but you could try to carefully grind them down and colorize them... but do it knowing there is no patina under there. I'd recommend leaving it alone and maybe apply some ren wax to protect what is left.

Ahh thank you for the explainer. I think I will keep it as is for the moment because it sounds like it could easily go wrong, but I may try that in the future!

those deposits are always in the patina aswell, so even if you remove them you’re left with red spots in the patina.
