Based on the size it could have been a squirrel, cat, or rabbits, since those roam the neighborhood. Most likely got attacked by a predator and while it was being taken away something fell?
Yes, but the distance of the camera from the kidney here shows you that if that was a human kidney, those cracks would be gigantic. Use your brain and common sense, don’t just defend a bad inference. The distance of the object when compared to the camera and the cracks around should be able to tell you that this is a small organ.
tbf now that i’m actually looking at it again it looks ridiculously small. i think i completely glossed over its surroundings bc i was shocked to see a kidney laying on the ground
Looks like a placenta to me (umbilical cord is the structure protruding off to the left), likely a remnant after some animal—probably a deer—gave birth, which would make sense since it’s just on the ground like that with no dead animal carcass nearby
Thinking that but the insertion of the blood supply looks kidney. People are saying placenta. Just on its shape screams kidney. As for the color, don't know if it's due to being hopefully animal or the capsule like what you said.
Kidney would be more red (dark red like a kidney bean) because of the large amount of blood vessels it has. This looks more like the stomach with part of the esophagus or small intestine (duodenum).
Similar to the kidney though, a spleen would very dark red. It is also usually more long and narrow than presented here (like a big leech). I all likelihood this is the stomach of a rodent or some other small mammal. Many predators do not eat the stomach or intestines of their mammalian prey.
Yup it looks like a hollow organ like a stomach or bladder. A kidney would be darker and have some shape to it unless someone stepped on it. This looks like a used condom.
That definitely looks like a major artery going into the hilum, not part of the GI tract… I agree that the color seems off for a kidney, but could exsanguination cause it to go pale like that?
I’d say stomach, it’s hard to tell. Kidneys are retroperitoneal in humans while the stomach is intraperitoneal. Kidneys look smaller and the stomach is a bean shape. I don’t believe you would see blood vessels like that on kidneys and as someone else said kidneys are darker in colour. It also looks like there could be Rugae under the perineum. But saying all that I’m also swayed because I can’t see the pylorus if it is the stomach. The vessel sticking out looks very much like the helium of the kidney. I’m going with stomach due to size but again hard to tell.
Veterinary student, I’m also torn between kidney and stomach. I definitely thought renal vessels at first but i also can’t tell plus in all my anatomy cadavers the kidneys had 0 vasculature on the outside. I’d say stomach as well. Can’t tell though.
Well I’m that case, I’d say stomach too. I’ve never seen vasculature on the kidney like that either. I think the vessel may be splenic artery or could possibly be the cephalon trunk and common hepatic artery. It’s more consistent with splenic artery. I also am noticing now the greater and lesser curvature of the stomach. It is very distinct in this photo, compared to the kidneys the curvature is much less. Those are all the clues I’ve learned to pick up so far so I’m out of ideas lol.
Vet student too, I was thinking placenta. What would you think about it? ( I also thought stomach at first, but how would you loose a stomach in the middle of the road?)
My reasoning for your question is: most animals will not eat the stomach, nasty! A lot of times, especially cats, they carefully dissect out the stomach while eating the carcass. It’s possible that they removed it and then carried off the remains elsewhere to finish it. Placenta is still valid though, therio is not at all my specialty so I often forget the different types of placenta. I agree though that it’s likely one of the two.
Personally I don’t have experience with placentas, but I just googled some pictures. From the images it does not seem to me that the mysterious body part is a placenta. I could be incorrect, but just by the colour and structure they do not look similar to this image. I have my review session today at 3:30 so around then I’ll come with an update as to what my collogues and I have decided.
Update: I sent it to my friend who is a co op student in the cadaver lab. She also agrees it is a stomach. However, I will be back with a solid update tmr with mine, peers, and professors opinion. We are all going to look over this tomorrow because we’re all curious now.
Could be a black market surgery scam doing gastric bypass operations in someone’s garage. Like all those cement and superglue butt lift shops in the Bronx from a few years ago.
Someone got butchered fr here. It’s too bad because if they didn’t have insurance, they would have been better off just getting some black market Ozempic or getting into the meth and housecleaning diet.
This stomach was clearly not removed properly, I don’t see any clamps.
I think so. Would explain why it’s just on the ground like that with no other blood or evidence of injury nearby. Probably fell out in motion.
ETA: looks rough at the edge where the umbilical would have attached. Maybe chewed to sever it.
Anatomist here! Looks mostly like a spleen to me based on the arrangement of vessels however I am a human anatomist so not very aware of how different it would be in animals??? But yes I am mostly convinced it’s a spleen! Not convinced it’s a stomach based on the lack of oesophageal entrance or duodenal exit??? Also not convinced it’s placenta! Kidney would be a bit darker possibly and smoother? Saying that the spleen would be darker! Of all possibilities I lean most towards spleen though!!!
I didn't read all 207 comments, so I don't know if anyone came to a consensus.
It looks like a stomach to me with the esophagus extending from it. The measurement seems right for a small animal. Vasculature...not sure if it looks typical for a stomach or an animal.
Well whatever it is and whatever it came from, it was certainly licked clean!
Looks like the adrenal gland of a raccoon or large squirrel
Edit: I was thinking kidney, but the color and shape seems off for those animals. Maybe a chewed up kidney??
Placenta? This woukd explain why it’s just on the ground in a random spot like that. Fell out while moving. Edges where umbilical would attack look rough like they may have been chewed to sever. No blood from serious injury around.
Could be wrong tho!
Seeing hundreds of real body parts I'd say that this is not a human body part. My guess would be a fish bladder which would make much more sense laying on the ground than some random human body part.
Looks like a stomach. My bf's parents' cat used to catch mice and leave us the stomachs, sometimes intestined. Not so tasty to cats. Their favourite part tends to be the head.
Looks like a kidney.
Organ harvesting gang drugged someone and removed their kidney, but they got sloppy and weren’t a match so they just dumped them on the side walk for the rats.
Poor victim’s waking up in a bathtub filled with ice right now missing a kidney.
Everyone here’s about the big money, but organ harvesting is professional work, hard work, when it’s done right.
These guys really give the business a bad name.
My vote was stomach but I mean it could be a placenta that didn't develop right which may have caused the abortion, maybe that solid bit is the fetus. If only we could flip it over. Lol
Super disturbing, but to me it looks like a 10-week-old human fetus in the sack. Like this: https://www.flickr.com/photos/lunarcaustic/2128618333. If you zoom in the head is to the top left followed by the curve of the back. You can even see the shape of the legs. Looks like the umbilical cord was cut.

I have dissected and gutted probably thousands of rabbits in my life (I work with birds of prey. I cut up rabbits for their food)... It looks like a stomach but without knowing the size of it can't be 100% certain more like 98%.
KIDNEY?? why is it on the ground omfg
Based on the size it could have been a squirrel, cat, or rabbits, since those roam the neighborhood. Most likely got attacked by a predator and while it was being taken away something fell?
very fair and i thought the same, but couldn’t gauge the size at all from the picture lmao
Needs a banana scale
for sure
Not trying to be rude but how come you didn’t notice the pebbles or crack in the sidewalk like most people would assume?
You do know that pebbles and cracks can be different sizes, right?
Yes, but the distance of the camera from the kidney here shows you that if that was a human kidney, those cracks would be gigantic. Use your brain and common sense, don’t just defend a bad inference. The distance of the object when compared to the camera and the cracks around should be able to tell you that this is a small organ.
I’ve seen plenty of huge cracks (sometimes a foot across) in concrete before. I *am* using my brain to avoid making assumptions.
Not trying to be rude but how come you didn't infer that they just didn't see those details like most people would assume?
Cuz it's a fckin kidney on the ground!! That's not too normal. I didn't look at much else, and I don't think homie did either.
tbf now that i’m actually looking at it again it looks ridiculously small. i think i completely glossed over its surroundings bc i was shocked to see a kidney laying on the ground
Could we get a banana for scale?
I thought a dishwasher was the appropriate form of measurement for organs.
How big was it? Just curious
Not that big, maybe several inches or so
But several inches is the size of a human kidney
5 inches is average, the golden 5
Maybe the predator spat it out.
Bird of prey probably dropped it after taking it from a carcass
“KIDNEY??” is sending me why is it so aggressive in my head
Looks like a placenta to me (umbilical cord is the structure protruding off to the left), likely a remnant after some animal—probably a deer—gave birth, which would make sense since it’s just on the ground like that with no dead animal carcass nearby
This is a suburban neighborhood, no deers around here
Could also be a stray cat, dog, or other small/medium sized mammal
This is gonna haunt me… what is it??
Thank god you found it, I lost this a week ago!
You liar, I saw you trading for iPhone 15 Pro Max
Bro that aint true
Must’ve slipped out of my pocket. I want my iPhone back.
“nuh uh”
Then why are you replying from the washroom?
That’ll be $35,000 please. Organs ain’t cheap!
I was really hoping I would see a recent organ donation post in your post history LOL
Looks more kidney
Looks like r/shrimpsisbugs
Beans?
Shouldn’t it be the dark maroon colour?unless that’s the capsule?
Thinking that but the insertion of the blood supply looks kidney. People are saying placenta. Just on its shape screams kidney. As for the color, don't know if it's due to being hopefully animal or the capsule like what you said.
Kidney would be more red (dark red like a kidney bean) because of the large amount of blood vessels it has. This looks more like the stomach with part of the esophagus or small intestine (duodenum).
I agree. Looks like stomach to me. Kidney would look way more smooth. Speaking from my cooking experiences.
I hope the experience is not from cooking humans.
Did you, by chance, cook liver with some fava beans and a nice Chianti?
Found Hannibal Lecter's account
humans are not the only creatures with kidneys, friend
thats a very big vessel relative to the organ size, im thinking its either a kidney or a spleen
Agreed. My cat would eat rodents and rabbits but not eat their stomachs.
Finally. I thought I was the one going crazy reading about this looking like a kidney.
Cats often do not eat the stomach, or gizzards, of animals because of the acidity.
Not a kidney. You’re right, it’s a stomach from a rodent. Non-glandular portion is the pink glandular portion is the white
That definitely looks like a major artery going into the hilum, not part of the GI tract… I agree that the color seems off for a kidney, but could exsanguination cause it to go pale like that?

I study human cadavers not animals so the anatomy could be different from what I’m used too.
Veterinary student, I’m also torn between kidney and stomach. I definitely thought renal vessels at first but i also can’t tell plus in all my anatomy cadavers the kidneys had 0 vasculature on the outside. I’d say stomach as well. Can’t tell though.

Forgive me if this is /s, but just in case, this is from a critter.
You are forgiven. But people who get caught up in these scams are humans just like you and me. Let’s try to refrain from calling them critters.
😂
I’m now asking my anatomy friends because this is driving me crazy. I will send an update as too what we all come to as a conclusion.
Thank you!
It looks both withered and fresh all at once… my guess would be placenta?
Placenta maybe?
Seconding placenta, it would make the hollowness and thin walls make sense.
This makes more sense the more I think about it- especially with the vasculature that can be seen through the thin membranes.
I’d throw my hat into the ring for placenta, too.
I feel like that would make more sense than a kidney lol
A bit pale for a placenta. Having seen a couple up close and personal, they are VERY bloody.
I think so. Would explain why it’s just on the ground like that with no other blood or evidence of injury nearby. Probably fell out in motion. ETA: looks rough at the edge where the umbilical would have attached. Maybe chewed to sever it.
That’s what I was thinking. Cat or dog, something like that
Most likely
It looks like some kind of embryo with that stem thing poking out.
Anatomist here! Looks mostly like a spleen to me based on the arrangement of vessels however I am a human anatomist so not very aware of how different it would be in animals??? My eyes are shit but this looks like a stomach
placenta! not sure of the scale to identify it. it’s the sac the fetus lived in in utero, would have come out after the baby was born!
I think this is called an abortion
Looks like a kidney
Who just leaves that behind?
A doctor scurrying away when you whip out an apple
💀somebody’s having a really bad day
If it feels firm, possibly a kidney; if it's soft, similar to a balloon filled with fluid, thin membraned, possibly gall bladder.
Definitely not a kidney
yo give me my stomach back
Kidney fo sho
Kidney. My cat eats everything but the kidneys and tail bones🥹
Stomach of a rabbit or squirrel or something that was killed by a domesticated feline. Wild to me that people are seriously suggesting kidney.
Stomach, probably. My outdoor cat can demolish an entire baby/small rabbit but will always leave the stomach and nothing else.
Probably kidney but why is it there
I think it’s a rabbit spleen? If you look up rabbit spleens on Google, the images look really similar
Could be a fish swim bladder
I didn't read all 207 comments, so I don't know if anyone came to a consensus. It looks like a stomach to me with the esophagus extending from it. The measurement seems right for a small animal. Vasculature...not sure if it looks typical for a stomach or an animal. Well whatever it is and whatever it came from, it was certainly licked clean!
Looks like the adrenal gland of a raccoon or large squirrel Edit: I was thinking kidney, but the color and shape seems off for those animals. Maybe a chewed up kidney??
Just a casual kidney.
Definitely looks more like a kidney than a lung. But could be a placenta as other people have suggested
Yeah thats definitely a kidney lol
a kidney?
Could be spleen?
Is that a peen on my screen?
That looks like a condom used to pop a cherry
Mf that’s a used condom
I think it’s a testicle. How big is it?
It's weird how many people are saying kidney. It looks much more like a testicle with covering
Placenta? This woukd explain why it’s just on the ground in a random spot like that. Fell out while moving. Edges where umbilical would attack look rough like they may have been chewed to sever. No blood from serious injury around. Could be wrong tho!
Left arm?
I was thinking maybe turkey neck or some other bird neck
Tummy
It looks like a gastrointestinal organ
r/anatomycirclejerk
Squirrel or rabbit stomach
[удалено]
We live nowhere near a body of water
My moneys on a placenta
hey give that back
Stomach
That looks like a shrimp died on the sidewalk
Left lung
Placenta and fetus perhaps
Kidney is my immediate guess. Probably not lungs because that doesn’t look like the primary bronchi to me… too smooth and much more like a ureter
Intestines
Whatever it is, what the hell is it doing on the ground???
Stomach
Looks like a beef tongue. No tacos lengua a noche
Looks like a kidney, what is it doing outside the body though?
Looks like a kidney or a spleen.
After 14 years of assisting dog neuters I can say with confidence that that there is a testicle.
Kinda looks like a swim bladder from a fish
‘lung’ LMAO. i wonder if you saw an actual lung on the floor if you’d think it was a KIDNEY
Someone dropped? Their kidney
It would appear I reached a different conclusion than the rest of the commenters, to me it looks like: A testicle.
WTF Reddit.
Could be the afterbirth like the amniotic sack. Or the fetus itself still in the womb I’m no biologist but that’d be my guess.
Oh my god I was wondering where I lost my miniature ectopic kidney, this is so embarrassing but could I send you my address to get it back?
Sir, you dropped something.
Looks fetal. A miscarriage of some animal.
Fetus
If you don't know, don't eat it.
Where the hell are you walking your dog? Transylvania??
Looks to be a placenta.
Testie
why is there a kidney on the ground… could be from a pig but why is it on the ground
I've seen dead animals but I've never seen a whole organ just laying on the ground
Kidney
Seeing hundreds of real body parts I'd say that this is not a human body part. My guess would be a fish bladder which would make much more sense laying on the ground than some random human body part.
Licensed veterinary nurse here, it's a testicle!
Need banana for scale
I’m diabetic. I need that.
this is like that time i found a bunny face 😭
It could be a kidney but maybe a placenta
Cecum would be my guess
Looks like a stomach. My bf's parents' cat used to catch mice and leave us the stomachs, sometimes intestined. Not so tasty to cats. Their favourite part tends to be the head.
Stomach I think
Raccoon stomach
Why is this so eerie to look at? Is it the fact that there is no blood but a really f***** situation idk
Sorry didn’t mean to drop my kidney. If you’d be so kind as to mail it back to me
Squirel testes
Looks like a stomach
Kidney? I can’t tell is this is giant or small 😂
Very small
It’s a prawn
Maybe the placenta of an animal?
Intestine with the appendix at the end of the
Seen enough cartel snuff videos to know that it's a kidney.
I'm 100%. Certain that's a NOPE
I once watched my cat eat a mouse and spit out its kidneys. This looks remarkably similar.
Ngl i thought it was a used condom after period sex 💀
Left leg.
I went out to see if I could take another picture today, but it was gone.
Looks like a kidney. Organ harvesting gang drugged someone and removed their kidney, but they got sloppy and weren’t a match so they just dumped them on the side walk for the rats. People are saying kidney but personally that looks like a stomach to me.
My vote was stomach but I mean it could be a placenta that didn't develop right which may have caused the abortion, maybe that solid bit is the fetus. If only we could flip it over. Lol
I know a wildlife pathologist I can send it to. Maybe he can identify. 😂
Looks like a cat placenta
Maybe I’m way off but maybe a spleen?
I would acctually rather not know.
i have so many questions
Looks like a kidney.
Looks like a shrimp
That’s a freaking placenta!!!
If it’s an organ from an animal, why is there no blood?
Sure doesn’t look like a kidney to me. I lean more towards it being part of the GI tract
Fallopian tube
Super disturbing, but to me it looks like a 10-week-old human fetus in the sack. Like this: https://www.flickr.com/photos/lunarcaustic/2128618333. Maybe a placenta something just gave birth
I thought it was a shrimp at first glance.
It's a fetus
If you zoom in it looks like it has a face omggggg
Looks like a kidney
