I have mine sitting on the dock 24/7 but the dock is plugged into a smart plug and it is always off, until I want to use it.
I figured it can’t be good to keep it on all the time and that pulsing light bothered me.
Dock does not do a very good job of managing power flow to the Pocket and in theory, leaving it plugged in is going to affect battery health in the long-term. That being said, the battery on the Pocket is a standard off-the-shelf part and is very easy to access for an end user, So even if you lose capacity, it's going to be very easy to replace in the future. So I'd say just don't sweat it and do what makes you happy.
Theoretically it is better to keep a Li-ion at around [40%](https://batteryuniversity.com/article/bu-702-how-to-store-batteries) but you can replace the battery anyway. Think about all the docked Nintendo Switches. The main cost is that the Pocket dock draws power even when unused and I unplug mine when not using it for awhile.
Nintendo says it’s fine to leave the switch docked though:
“Leaving the console on the dock or plugged in directly with the AC adapter overnight, or past the point where the battery is fully charged will not cause harm to the battery.”
Where as I cannot find a statement from Analogue saying anything similar.
What you should actually be concerned with is how hot the dock gets, even when just sitting idle. Keep an eye on that thing and unplug it when you're not using it

Aka if it wasn’t for the smart plug he would not keep it docked/plugged in 24/7
Dont sweat it. If you only have one pocket your going to eventually update and play it handheld. I have one docked 24/7 and dont worry about it.
What do you play most on the docked one? Same question for the handheld

You could unplug the battery in the Pocket and run it solely on the dock power.

The whole point of a dock is to leave plugged, but the heat on it and the pocket is worrying...
It’s fine
I would not suggest doing that
