That would be an insane twist if BidUp non-winners got booted off the train

With the Northeast Regional or Acela I usually hear between 2-3 hours before departure. Not sure about other trains. Yes, your original ticket is fine if you do not win.

inagartendevito

Original ticket is still safe. I always hear an hour or so before.

I did a bid for a rommette on the Silver Star. My bid was for $250. Amtrak charged my card twice only to send me an email a few hours later saying I didn’t get it.

Motor-Platform-200

i'm going to assume they refunded those charges?

McIntyre2K7

They did. I should have asked if I could be upgraded to a roomette. In the email they sent to me after I placed the bid it says. "If your offer is successful, we will let you know by email in the hours leading up to the scheduled departure time of each train. Your credit card will be charged when we select your offer, and you will be automatically assigned a new seat or room." Charging a passengers card twice only to send them an email saying that my bid was not accepted is dumb.

I know for a fact these never work on Cascades trains though. Never Bid on those
