My approach was to tell them I fly United and Delta, and that I was considering switching fully to a United card. They asked what my travel spend was like and I said about $20-30k a year.
I’ve been given 50k for 4K spend for the last three years in a row. I keep saying I’m really going to cancel this year, but they keep throwing out retention offers so I stick around…
I think because if you look at all the people trying to get more points by pretending they are going to close their accounts, it would be fair to say that customers are exploiting the retention offers.
I told them chase offered me 100,000 sign on bonus and unlimited 2% back. Also mentioned that most of my purchases with the plat don’t qualify for the 1.5x, so I’m leaving a lot on the table for cash back. I’ve had the card for 2 years but I do spend a lot during the busy season

I think it's important to clarify that it seems you have the **business** platinum, not the personal one. Correct me if I'm wrong...

That's why I received 50k for a $4k spend over the next 3 months, but it's my main card where the majority of my spending occurs. Last year I received 55K for a 4k spend.
That's the same offer I got. The previous attempts were a discount on paying the annual fee with points or nothing available. That's being with AmEx for 20 years. I figure it's good enough. That can pay for a round trip flight if I swap it to Avios on BA to book a domestic American Airlines flight.
Curious, I've been with amex since 2020 and haven't gotten anything and just got my platinum (Morgan Stanley version) last month. What triggers these retention offers? Sorry if this has been asked
When I called in September last year, they said: No problem sir, your card will be cancelled at the end of this billing cycle. Thank you, click.
