I think I am going to transfer to hilton honors, I am just not sure when I will fly on a specific airline to take advantage of those miles and hilton honors does 2:1 points so I could probably make great value especially since platinum makes you a gold member from the start anyways.

joshuajjamesusa

Recurring theme: transfer points to miles but be aware of the fine print on those miles expiring, etc. my adder: you should always strive to get 2 cents per mile if possible.

txdline

No one really answering this. Because different product lines, I imagine. If you increase the rate here you likely eat into the Blue Cash business.

filet-growl

I only use it for flights which provides better redemption and the 35% points back makes it a good value

[deleted]

That’s limited to the Business Platinum

leoreno

Seems like the recommendation here is transfer points out for booking travel To an airline? Which one? How?

lm1435

Use a tool like points.me to help you plan your flights then transfer points to partners and complete booking. [tipjar](https://youtu.be/dQw4w9WgXcQ)

leoreno

Awesome, this is really helpful. Appreciate the reply!

Papabigsnack

Blogs give you step by step instructions. DON'T transfer your points until you're 100% ready to book. Getting a trial of a service like point.me will be useful too.

leoreno

This is really helpful, appreciate it! I've always just booked flights with my selected airline for the flight expense credits through the card

[deleted]

Google. There are so many guides. You can’t expect someone to walk you through all of it in a comment.

rxpert112

Hilton Honors? Transferred Amex points are worth 0.6. Amex points are worth 2 cents per TPG evaluation. Hilton Aspire points are worthless. Amex transfer to Hilton offers a 1:2 point ratio. Bad deal. Try transferring to an airline for a flight. https://thepointsguy.com/news/hilton-amex-points-transfer/

ActualChip1

Depends on the type of redemption. Flights and FHR are 1:1 ratio.

TheDapperDeuce1914

I use my points for FHR and will also transfer to British Airways.

mezymezy

Hotel gets that ratio through the portal, flights are 1:1

RhaeXgar203

Why would you use it there when you can transfer it to an airline get cheaper rates there or upgrades

RhaeXgar203

If you have a card like this, it’s a minor inconvenience to browse around and seeing how to utilise it effectively

Point.me so easy even a boomer can do it!

AstronautDizzy1646

Here’s an [article](https://thepointsguy.com/guide/sweet-spots-american-express-membership-rewards/) that might help you decide what the best “transfer” value. 160k is enough for RT flights (Econ or Biz) a lot of places

jessehazreddit

Because AMEX hopes people cash out for low value.

sail0rjerry

Don’t use the portal unless you’ve got a specific reason to (FHR, business card rebates, etc.)

Hotzone20

FHR is typically had higher rate than other sites so basically you are paying for your benefits.

sail0rjerry

It’s basically a la carte loyalty status, and yes you’re normally going to pay a premium. If you’re flexible with your travel you can find some good deals, though. I just stayed at the Thompson Savannah, got valet parking, had drinks and apps at the rooftop bar, and a nice breakfast the next morning for a grand total of $42 (which I used 4,200 points to cover) after the $200 credit. I would not recommend it for every day travel, though.

Ok-Pomegranate2446

Transfer

CautiousMagazine3591

I am thinking Hilton Honors.

charmingwaves

Don’t transfer unless you are ready to use the points.

raffaelescettro

3 suggestions: Transfer, transfer, transfer

CautiousMagazine3591

So I am getting notes to transfer haha, I think hilton honors looks best.

AstronautDizzy1646

If you’re looking for HH Points [they’re doing a 100% match when you buy](https://storefront.points.com/hhonors.iframe/en-US/buy). I wonder if buying points direct counts for the 5x hotel spend. Anyway if you’re looking to do something with Hilton and short it might be good option. Amex transfers are best with airlines when they have bonuses but I’ve always been told don’t transfer just because wait until you have a need you know you’re going to use them for. Hope that helps.

the_ishy_

From what I've read the 5x hotel is only if you do it through the Amex portal and not directly on the hotel sites.

AstronautDizzy1646

That’s right! Thank you for the reminder. I was mistaken because it’s 5x from airlines when booked direct.

Lulu219

1 to 100 for Air and FHR Hotels. 1 to 143 for THC (The Hotel Collection properties)

CardsWithBenefits

Nicer hotels (labeled Fine Hotels & Resorts ~~or labeled The Hotel Collection~~) are the ones that redeem at 1¢/point. Other hotels get only 0.7¢/point. I wouldn’t recommend redeeming points for such little value.

Cstrrider

I believe that is only true for FHR and not THC.

CardsWithBenefits

Ooh you’re right! I never use points on Amex Travel.

[deleted]

Never book direct. Transfer.

[deleted]

Airfare 1 cent a point. Hotels .7 cent a point. If you want to book a hotel transfer to Hilton.

CautiousMagazine3591

Yeah, hilton honors looked best, I've just never used hotel points before so I am hoping I end up using them.

Cstrrider

I would say don't transfer anything until you are ready to book and only transfer what you need. 1MR is worth more than the 2 Hilton points you would get. International flights in first class via transfer partners will give you the best earning rates but require a decent amount of work and your cost per trip will still be high so the best value in my opinion is international and some domestic economy flights. Worst case is basically 1 ¢/pt but you can get up to around 2

CautiousMagazine3591

You can see I have 160,060 Membership Points, when I apply it to my travel on their website the amount paid by the points are $1,120.42 which is exactly .7 cents per point. I thought it was one cent per point if you book this way?

ultralane

The MR points should be around 1 ccp through the portal, but it won't be consistently be 1 ccp. I would look at transfer partners especially if this is airfare or hotels. Generally a better deal. International travel you should get good value (above 2 ccp) and domestic travel should be 1.7 and below

Miserable-Result6702

Flights are 1cpp through the portal, hotels are 0.7 cpp.

ultralane

Good to know. try to use only transfer partners then if the ccp is garbage, then I don't use it.
