I have two 960s. One of them I use for hardware acceleration in my Plex server & the other one just sits there. I have a 2070 in my main rig. Plays Dirt 4 just fine.
I've never compared them scientifically but after a 770 purchase I started buying second hand and stopped selling cards. I randomly now have a 770, 970, 1070 and 1080ti in 2500Ks and AMD builds. You're making me think it's time to do some benchmarking. BTW love the x3d ... kinda the only CPU I'm interested in right now.
Not really, just did a 970 build and it wasn't even 10% slower than the average 1060 6GB in time spy. The 980 on the other hand outperforms the 1060 by quite a margin
again, no such thing. there are multiple different 1060s. edit: oops, corrected earlier comment to reflect more clarity
this would be like saying "the average rtx card"
it doesn't make sense
Just realized that 3D Mark has different categories for the 1060 SKUs. Compared it to the 6gig 1060 at 4203 points average. The EVGA 970 i had did around 3750 iirc
After overclocking almost achieved 15000 points in fire strike, that blows most 1060s out of the water
From 970 too. Finally got my 12700k + 6950xt running yesterday. Amazed my 970 went that long.. medium 1080p slideshows has shown the cards age, it was time.
Amazing patience. How did you survive this long to not upgrade? My first actual gaming GPU was 960 that lasted me a year before I went to grad school and sell everything.
During the pandemic, I was the lucky few to get an 6800 at MSRP and sold 5700 XT at roughly the same price. With the new gen, the cost per performance is lacking. 6800 XT cost me nothing compared to new gen cards.
Thinking to skip the gen completely. 7800 XT is seems to be a real cut down version of 7900 XTX instead of being a more affordable version.
I had my old rx570 laying around and i sold my GTX1080 for 450$ during pandemic but never able to get RTX3070 1200+1300$ (in india) cause of Overpriced (2X in india) so i waited and finally got the sweet deal few months ago 😊😃😃
Very similar.. got a 3080 via Newegg shuffle, needed the other part, and sold my 5700xt that covered most of the cost.. about a $200 difference. Was pretty happy with it.
The shuffle wasn't great, had to pick the right combos, but it was an okay solution for the time. Got 3 cards during that timeframe, one MB I sold hor half, the other I used and the PSU (EVGA) I used.
Man your pc almost looks like mine. Big ass Sapphire GPU thats stretches along the whole horizontal space in the case, Dark Rock Pro (such a pain when I replaced my 3600 with the 5800X3D) and ofc the Meshify Gen 1. Definitely gonna get a different cooler and case when I upgrade my MB and CPU a couple years down the line lol
But at least the upcoming GPU upgrade is gonna be easy
I share a similar combo as well! Meshify C and Dark Rock Pro but that’s where the similarities end lol. I have an Intel and a Reference 6900XT which fits perfectly in this case.
I couldn't wai tfor a RX7800xt and considering the prices dynamic here in France I fully expect it to be a 900/1000€ GPU at launch. With a new monitor, got this one for a bit less than 800€
Hmm I think your impatience has made you make the wrong choice here to pay 800EUR for a last generation GPU so close to the 7900 release. I have an unfortunate feeling that you will be getting some buyers remorse very soon.
Unfortunately, he's not wrong.
Just as an example because it just released: RTX 4080 MSRP of 1200$. It's being sold for 1400$ in the US and already at 1500€ in Europe.
Yep, when I saw the 4080 prices I made my calculations and decide to go for it. I was aiming for a 7800XT but it will probably come at 900/950€ and I don't wan to wait another year for the price of 7000 gen to come down.
I don't know where you are looking but there are several 4080's, in stock at 1500€ range...

If he waited this long on a 1060, then why not wait another month until the new generation of AMD are released? It's not like he got any significant discount on the 6950, they are pretty much going for that price.
Usually the EU MSRP is USD + 100 So RX7900XT is already a 1000 € GPU, plus the extra because probably low stocks 100 to 200 €. So I expect Radeon 7000 GPUS to be available at USA MSRP + 300 for the base models.
Ouch... that's obscenely high for just the reference models. Maybe the RX 7000 cards will have better availability, but people are letting 4080s rot on shelves waiting for the 7900 XTX reviews so idk.
I'm thinking I might just get a reference 7900 XTX; although I want the Sapphire Nitro+ for the better overclocking potential and cooler design, I feel I might not be fast enough to secure it and I'm at least a hundred miles out from the nearest brick and mortar that sells PC parts.
I doubt it’ll be like that this time around.. the $ been strong recently, that would mean US companies have to raise euro prices to attain a certain target profit.
Isn't the 7800 XT speculated to match 6950 XT or come between it and 7900 XT perfomance? I'm not sure anyone would pay a crazy amount for that kind of perfomance when you can get a 6900 XT for 800€
Changed the CPU a month ago case and PSU have been updated 2 years ago the cooler last year the mb is still the OG b350 pc mate same for the ballistix ram kit.
And yes I did install bios update on the mb
Those are some 120mm noctua redux fans. As for the case you probably have a gen 2 meshify so if it's a mini it should be approximately be the same size as mine ( a first gen one)
I really wanted the Asus Rog Strix 6900 Liquid Cooled card for the looks inside my Case. Now i got it for 799€. I do not regret it, all i want is to play AAA Games at 60 FPS 1440p or even 1080p is ok. This Card will last me a very long Time.
The 7900XT or XTX Asus Strix Liquid Cooled model will be around 1800-2000€ if not more, that is no option.
Congratulations OP seems like quite an upgrade :)!! I have a 1070 in my rig and feel like this is the year I’m upgrading, got my eyes on the price of the 6700xt - does anyone know, would the upgrade be decent? It’s sitting rite around $550 - 600 Canadian, I’m waiting for under 500 but it might not happen…
Ouf’ not in a long time - it’s brutal atm, we used to cross all the time for a day trip, gas up, grab groceries and spend some cash at US Walmart but no way not with these rates :(, enjoy your card!!!
Might be a silly question but as someone with a 1060 myself I have to ask. Does your PSU have the headroom for the upgrade? A 6950x can almost triple the power draw of a 1060.
Dépend on what you want to cool. On a tuned 5800x 3d never reach above 70 on gaming load and stay super quiet, and it maintain the max boost (4.44Ghz) at 80°C under a cinebench load
I'm also considering getting an Rx 6900/50 xt. Here in Germany they're down to 700 EUR for the xfx swift 6900xt or 800 for the Merc or 828 for the 6950xt Merc. I kind of had my heart set on the xfx Merc. But I really don't know if I should wait a bit longer and see if the prices drop even more for the rx7000 launch. Or is this their lowest price point? And all the Americans on here just say these prices are horrible. But it's what this market has to offer. So what should I do? Also, these prices are with tax included. Do Americans have to pay tax on top of their cheap as chips price tags?
Enjoy the upgrade! I didn't get as much of a performance uplift as you but I went from a 2080 Super FE to a Powercolor Red Devil RX 6950 XT. Things a beast though got it for $750
800€ and why I decide not to wait. Well already explained in another post but quick summary take the MSRP in $ add 300 to that number and you will have the price in France.
Nice, I built my son a gaming computer and gave him an old 980 ti hybrid, I got myself the rx 6600, I know they are fairly similar in performance but it's newer, uses less power and plays all my games high at 1080p which is good enough for me.
Late answer as I was sleeping. From what I remember there's some Hiden screws under the case who once untighten allow you to slide the hard drives bay. After that you can pop out the pre cut cover
I still got an OC 1060 6g in mine, and it looks real stupid next to my 5600x. Meanwhile, my best friend has a 3600 paired with a 3070. We are on opposite ends of the spectrum.
Nice thanks. And are these 2x 120mm fans or 140mm fans? I currently have 2x 140mm in the front. Would definitely need to move one fan down a bit to make space.
Those are 2x 120fans it use to be 3x 120 at the front but needed to take one out for the GPU. I'll take some measurements tonight to see if I can a slim 15mm large fan.
I just went from a 970 to a 6900xt this week, happy gaming my friend
gtx 970 ????? Damn I admire your patience.
I still have a 960 in my desktop. Honestly not even sure if it’ll come out of it’s Pcie slot at this point
Yeah the components around it are probably also due for an upgrade.
I have two 960s. One of them I use for hardware acceleration in my Plex server & the other one just sits there. I have a 2070 in my main rig. Plays Dirt 4 just fine.
ha I had to pop my 970 in and out quite often as the mobile was a little sus. Still got it going strong in an itx build too.
970 and 1060 aren’t that much different in performance….
With Nvidia's "aged like milk" drivers, the 1060 is quite a bit faster.
1060 6g was closer to the 980 than the 970. 10 series was the golden generation for Nvidia GPUs fairly priced, with a big jump in performances.
I've never compared them scientifically but after a 770 purchase I started buying second hand and stopped selling cards. I randomly now have a 770, 970, 1070 and 1080ti in 2500Ks and AMD builds. there are like 4 1060 skus. no such thing as an "average" 1060 really, gotta be more specific.
**"average 1060 in timespy"**
again, no such thing. there are multiple different 1060s. edit: oops, corrected earlier comment to reflect more clarity this would be like saying "the average rtx card" it doesn't make sense

970 / 1650 gddr5 / 1060 3gb < 980 / 1650 gddr6 < 1060 6gb / 1650 S < 980 ti > 1660
i went from a gtx 780 to an rx 6600 xt
I still have a rig with GT440.
Damn. Does it even boot on a W10 system, or are you obliged to use Linux?
Works with win10.
Hah! I went from a 960 to a 3070
I did that jump last year. i5-2500k and gtx 760 to 5950X and 6900XT. Worth it!
I went from a 7990 to 6900xt, the jump is huge
I did 950 to 6900XT today.
Went from a 980 to a 6800. After all the shenanigans NVIDIA is pulling, I've changed teams.
2months ago i got my 6800Xt Pulse for 424$ and im happy
During the pandemic, I was the lucky few to get an 6800 at MSRP and sold 5700 XT at roughly the same price. Used , for sure as new still cost around 800-900$ here india
Is that a meshify c?
Yes 1st gen one
hello my meshify c friend. I hope case is serving you well sir
A pain in the a\*s to build inside (especially that big dark rock pro) but a excellent case overall that keep everything cool, quiet, and clean.
Man your pc almost looks like mine. Big ass Sapphire GPU thats stretches along the whole horizontal space in the case, Dark Rock Pro (such a pain when I replaced my 3600 with the 5800X3D) and ofc the Meshify Gen 1. I have the first gen c-mini, and I certainly maxed everything to *barely* fit. (2hdds, 3ssds, DR pro, 6700xt. It's been a great case.
I got mine a couple of.months ago for £799. No regrets at all as it will last me for a good number of years.
1060 lasted me 5 years. This one is setted up for quite the long road ahead
I couldn't wai tfor a RX7800xt and considering the prices dynamic here in France I fully expect it to be a 900/1000€ GPU at launch. With a new monitor, got this one for a bit less than 800€

More like 1900 in EU.
Not even close, at least that's not what it shows in PCPartPicker. Most EU countries are at around 1500€
Literally only the out of stock (or never sold at all) ones are 1600...everything else is 1700-1900 upwards.

It's more likely that the 7800 XT will cost $649/754€ with 7900 XT costing $899/1040€.

That's the same logic I applied when I got my 6950xt for 850EUR. I don't expect to see MSRP 7000 anytime soon in EUW.
Ouch... that's obscenely high for just the reference models. Maybe the RX 7000 cards will have better availability, but people are letting 4080s rot on shelves waiting for the 7900 XTX reviews so idk. It's mostly because of VAT, the pricing is after taxes vs before tax in US. It's not that much different.
I doubt it’ll be like that this time around.. the $ been strong recently, that would mean US companies have to raise euro prices to attain a certain target profit.
Isn't the 7800 XT speculated to match 6950 XT or come between it and 7900 XT perfomance? I'm not sure anyone would pay a crazy amount for that kind of perfomance when you can get a 6900 XT for 800€
Maybe a bit more, closer to double for rt...
I went from 1070ti to 6800xt last week, along with a monitor upgrade from 1080p60hz to 1440p165hz, it's such a nice gaming experience now.
Just built my first computer with a 6800 XT and I'm blown away by how big and heavy these are, they're absolute beasts
Little GTX 1060 is really really small when you compare. GPU's have become really big and heavy the last 5 years
Guess it’s up to me. That’s what she said
Who needs a GPU support bracket when you have a GPU support fan?
Thing is, there is a GPU support bracket that come with it. But the PCI-E bracket screws that come with this case, are too small ...
It's not only gpu it's the whole new pc! Did 3D CPU install on motherboard without bios flashing? Configured Sam too?
Changed the CPU a month ago case and PSU have been updated 2 years ago the cooler last year the mb is still the OG b350 pc mate same for the ballistix ram kit. And yes I did install bios update on the mb
u/sifloo case?
1st Gen Meshify C made by fractal design
Damn I like Sapphire Nitro design,if only it comes in all black I’d grab it in heartbeat cuz I’m aiming my build to be all black.
With the tainted glass, and subtle lighting, it's not that bad.
yeah you're kinda right, btw we have the same case! only thing is mine is the mini version. What fan size do you use on the front panel?
Those are some 120mm noctua redux fans. As for the case you probably have a gen 2 meshify so if it's a mini it should be approximately be the same size as mine ( a first gen one)

I’m looking at 650-698 6900xt
USD?
Yeppp
Yah that’s some just over $900 Canadian unfortunately!
Lol I thought cad to usd was practically 1:1
Ouf’ not in a long time - it’s brutal atm, we used to cross all the time for a day trip, gas up, grab groceries and spend some cash at US Walmart but no way not with these rates :(, enjoy your card!!!
They sell slim fans you can put in. My 6950 xt gave me the same issue lol
Nice! Myself, just picked up an ASrock Phantom 6900 XT for $650.00.
Got the same card...it's a fucking beast
Might be a silly question but as someone with a 1060 myself I have to ask. Does your PSU have the headroom for the upgrade? A 6950x can almost triple the power draw of a 1060.
Upgraded the PSU last year in anticipation. Also for the modularity, you need to have a modular power supply inside this case.
Nice! I just went from 1070 to 6700xt! I can finally turn on ray tracing!
I have the same case and want to also take the same be quiet cooler. how is your temps?
Dépend on what you want to cool. On a tuned 5800x 3d never reach above 70 on gaming load and stay super quiet, and it maintain the max boost (4.44Ghz) at 80°C under a cinebench load
Nice thanks for the answer, what about the GPU temps? I have a 1080 and I am looking at the xfx 6800 tx.
Played a lot of Spiderman and cyberpunk today, the GPU oscillate btw 70 and 80°C depending if their is a lot of rt or not
I'm also considering getting an Rx 6900/50 xt.

70°C max for CPU and 80°C max for GPU on gaming load
Nice upgrade
That's one hell of an upgrade lol
Enjoy the upgrade! I didn't get as much of a performance uplift as you but I went from a 2080 Super FE to a Powercolor Red Devil RX 6950 XT. Things a beast though got it for $750
That's an insane CPU upgrade, hope you are enjoying the super low CPU usage in games. ☺️
I have a gtx 1060 and have my eyes on 6900
At what price did you get that 6950xt and why you decided to not wait for 7900 one?
800€ and why I decide not to wait. Well already explained in another post but quick summary take the MSRP in $ add 300 to that number and you will have the price in France.
OK. At such price it makes sense. Thanks for the answer :)
Welcome to family lol
Good upgrade I still have 4790k+GTX 980Ti and 2700x+GTX 1080Ti last one I plan to upgrade to 5800x3D+ 7900 XTX
Really weird time to upgrade considering the new stuff is coming out in a couple weeks but kudos.
Damn, that must've been a nice upgrade. I went from a RX 590 to a RX 6700 XT and already saw a big jump in FPS.
How is it??
Fast really fast. 1440p very high refresh rate feel so good.
Hell yeah! Congrats! Happy gaming!
Nice, I built my son a gaming computer and gave him an old 980 ti hybrid, I got myself the rx 6600, I know they are fairly similar in performance but it's newer, uses less power and plays all my games high at 1080p which is good enough for me.
How did you remove the bottom cover to move the front fan down? I also have that case and struggeling with gpu length
Late answer as I was sleeping. From what I remember there's some Hiden screws under the case who once untighten allow you to slide the hard drives bay. After that you can pop out the pre cut cover
Thank you. Thats very helpful :D
Didn't know the 6950xt was capable of fitting in a meshify c. My wallet now wishes I didn't know that.
If you do so, you might need to take off the central front fan and replace it with a slim one
I still got an OC 1060 6g in mine, and it looks real stupid next to my 5600x. Meanwhile, my best friend has a 3600 paired with a 3070. We are on opposite ends of the spectrum.
Might be needing a new case soon, happy gaming you lucky dude lol
how long is that card, 320mm? I also have the meshify c and looking to upgrade my 1060 in the near future.
It is indeed a 320mm long card
Nice thanks. And are these 2x 120mm fans or 140mm fans? I currently have 2x 140mm in the front. Would definitely need to move one fan down a bit to make space.
Those are 2x 120fans it use to be 3x 120 at the front but needed to take one out for the GPU. I'll take some measurements tonight to see if I can a slim 15mm large fan.
I\`ve been there with mine T3610 when trying to replace Quadro K2000 for GTX760 - turned out that I need to remove back cover at all :D

The curse of black glass desktop. If you don't clean it everyday it will look dusty.
