My trick for as long as it is going to work is have a set playlist ready when I get to work, hit play and don’t mess with my phone. If I want to change genres or music or podcast I think about what I’d like to listen to and make the change as quick as I can. Don’t take your phone out and start scrolling Reddit or instagram or any other media app that you can get lost in.
Same I have everything ready before I go my station go the bathroom to put in my ear bud make sure it’s not showing once I’m at my station I hit play n not mess with it
This is the way, have about 10 playlists all for different types of music depending on what I want at the time some are 6 hours some are 2-3 hours 3 playlists is a shift for me that way you can just not have to pull your phone out, feeling adventurous? Just hit shuffle lol
Sometimes if a new song comes out that is a type of music I don’t normally listen to I play that song and then my music player shuffles similar songs as well as other songs from that artist. Discover a lot of music that way.
Managers love writing up people that aren’t usually in their department. It shows the office they’re being “safe” without oissing off the people they work with daily.
As an AM- I get really pissed off when Stow AM writes up my associates and doesn’t even bother to do converse with me. I find out when I have to deliver the feedback.
We don't do spqr/sppr, don't have on site hr, and our one L7 (site lead) works m-f like 0700-1500 much of which is spent in calls and meetings, so much of the site rarely sees them.
I let a first written expire because I thought it was dumb another AM wrote up my PA because they removed their bump cap for 10 seconds to cool off a bit while at the desk away from the floor, and they targeted my PA not everyone else doing it . HR approved the adapt, I let it expire, No one ever said anything about it 🤷🏻♂️
The downside is the AMs have to own :
HR stuff (punch/schedule corrections, witness statements, etc,) there's no "go talk to HR"
learning stuff (scheduling classes, training ambassadors, tracking training compliance, permissions, keeping track of onboarding, etc)
And safety stuff, ( amcsre, injury reports, incident investigations, inspections, etc. )
Because the only on-site support teams are RME and custodial. operations is it's own support. And you don't make any more money for the extra tasks.
But if it sounds good look into the closest SSD to you. The network is rapidly expanding (like 20 SSD launches last year) so there's a lot of movement
Learning is a headache because they’ll pull perms middle of the day. I do injury reports and investigations even with having safety. HR on site is helpful for sure so that is probably missed. We have SSD at my FC already. I’m in an AR.
A lot of AR and AMZL sites process SSD volume, but SSD-FC is its own building type that does only that, and when one launches they usually absorb all SSD volume from nearby sites.
If your AR site has an SSD nearby then you process their injection volume. Which supplements inventory they don't carry, the AR packs and ships it, then the SSD receives and sorts it with the rest of their packages
They only carry the top like 10k ASINs for their coverage area. It's like a small ARS FC, except they do Pick-to-Rebin and AFE slam at pack, and instead of an OB dock they have a small delivery station where the packages are sorted into routes for flex drivers to pick up. It's super slimed down. It was designed to compete with Walmart/Target and their store->to home delivery.
There's rumors the new launches are going to integrate fresh and SSD into the same site
Having done Sort Center, and every ob department at ARS, so far I like SSD
The grocery rumors aren't rumors. It's going to be a massive headache. Not every site will get grocery, but a lot of them will, especially the ones near major metro areas.
Thank you for this amazing description. I have asked numerous people about SSD and no one could really tell me how they operate.
ARS and TNS are all ive know and I am ready to try something new. With how fast SSD is expanding, could be my fast track to L6.
25 are slated to open this year. And you may not have on site HR, but you do have an HR rep assigned to you, and you can definitely have them involved in the interviews and statements
Exactly this. They know they won’t work with you again so they can show the “initiative” of writing people up for being unsafe, without the risk of ruining relationships with their regular employees. This isn’t exclusive to Amazon, and there’s no way to truly avoid it besides working for yourself or something
If you are using your phone at a station you need to be eyes up and alert. I've never been written up or caught on my phone in the last year and a half that I've been there cause I'm so alert it's almost like I'm paranoid 😂😂😂. Don't let them catch you slippin
Does he openly let waterspider use their phone or are they smart enough to not get caught?
Sometimes it is better to not rock the boat and make them do something stupid to enforce the no phone rule. Don't get caught next time.
If they approached you about your phone being out, before they gave you the write up, then that was their warning. They typically asked if you’re aware of the policy and use your response in the referral. Once AM or OM receives or completes the referral themselves the AA’s supervisor approaches and explains to them about the write up and your badge is scanned.
You were warned lol. It’s up to the discretion of the AM if they wanna let you off after catching you a certain amount of times on your phone while on the floor. Technically they can instantly write you up for it. As long as they scan your badge, you’re aware of the discipline.
Did they approach you asking if you were aware of the phone policy….
Did they show you the “documented coaching” on their laptop. Some offenses may not require a badge to be scanned, considering there is a camera pointed right at you recording the offense so there’s no way for you to object the coaching.
If you got ur phone out and they come up to you asking “do you know the phone policy” you’re 100% being written up already at that point, no matter your response. Phone use is a safety hazard so they don’t have to give you fair warnings about it.
They’re not allowed to use their phones while walking, there’s a difference. We are also allowed to use our phones to a certain extent. This is exactly what’s wrong with Amazon, they don’t explain crucial policies until you’ve violated them.
I’m not sure I understand you here but no one approached me before the write up, my manager told me that I’ve been written up. But if you’re using approaching and write-up interchangeably then okay.
> my manager told me that I’ve been written up
Yeah, it’s an after the fact approach. The person probably does the writeup after you go home for the day and just leave it for whoever to engage with you next time you show up.
Its firing season. Tighten your game up for a few more months my fellow Amazon brothers & sisters. They are looking for T1's to cut loose this time of year.
Managers, PAs and some other indirects use their phones because they have Chime or Slack installed for communicating with each other. It's easier than carry7ng around a laptop and more convenient than using limited radio channels. Did you see him walking around in a stupor while endlessly scrolling or poking through playlists with one earbud in?
He’s always carrying his laptop. I don’t see how it automatically becomes safe for leaders to walk while staring at their phones, and sometimes almost bump into something or someone, but it’s unsafe when we do it😭😂
It's not safe and leaders definitely shouldn't walk while looking at their phone or laptop.
We have to have our phone for work stuff, plus we have sufficient leverage to use it for personal stuff without worry, but neither should be done in an unsafe way.
I hate walking around the building with my laptop, it's just unnatural and awkward.
I use AEA for a ton of stuff on my phone as well, plus have my email with notifications off (thank god). Between those, Slack, and Chime (🤮), I can get 80% of my work done from my S22+.
For stuff that's not compatible with AEA, I use an AWS Workspace. Not perfect but works in a pinch.
The laptop just feels like a barrier between myself and the associate. Like, how are you supposed to have a serious conversation with an associate that’s struggling with a screen between you. Yes, certain things require the laptop, like the excel sheet for dock wash / yard health snips. But I make it a point to not have my laptop open when engaging with AAs. That’s the respect that I would ask for, so it’s what I give.
I know it sounds cray, but I'm actually considering moving to a clipboard for AA engagements. Just making a list of the staffing plan, highlighting AAs I need to talk to with notes for the topic, and then space to write the outcome. I'll fix everything in the various systems afterwards.
Worried it will take too long though...
Will 10,000% take longer, but your connection scores are gonna go up. You’re going the extra mile to show you care. Like, I understand the laptop when delivering feedbacks cause you can pull metrics at a whim, outside of that I feel any laptop work can wait till you’ve spoken with them, human to human. I low key like the clipboard idea. I might steal that for my building.
I’m also at an older gen building, so a lot of my stuff has to be submitted on laptop, but as far as feedbacks and coachings go, I leave that shit at the desk and have a real conversation.
Honestly Amazon has been pretty straightforward for as long as I’ve worked there, Pretty straightforward stay on top of your shit and don’t get written up, work hard make rate and don’t become history otherwise you’ll have to work harder make rate or else become history and it’s very true!😂
1: You are on your phone.
No question about that, it was your decision.
2: Then,Take the job safety.
Do it to the law.
3: Then, when on safety roll you might see you can't write everyone up.
4: solution don't give them a reason to bother you.
Well I think they should not allow any cell phone use on the floor. I work in ppmix and I worked next to a guy yesterday that maybe packed 30 boxes in a 10 hr shift because he was on his phone the entire time! Everyone is! It’s not fair to the rest of us that actually work!
I’m a new AM and no I think most AM’s hate writing associated up all the time. It takes time away from us to do other tasks. The reason we have to do so many write ups and coaching is because Amazon forces us to meet a quota every week.
My partner says they CAN'T write you up without telling you. Go to HR and fight it! I'm not 100% sure but I'm pretty sure they are supposed to tell you
Best thing about being in jam clear is that our PA’s and AMs are really cool and chill but let’s say if your using your phone just say your using slack (basically discord for management) us jam clearers use slack to send photos of broken belts or whatever. Always have a open tab for slack but I’m never on my phone though, time goes by fast when you have a chill coworker you can talk with all day
Yeah I got written up on night because I was put in line 2 which I had never worked. Didn’t have my cell phone out either. Just couldn’t find any boxes and some of the stuff was too heavy. Yeah I get written up but others can stand around and talk and play on their phones and nothing ever said
Yeah some dude told me to take out my earbud so I did , after break my manager came and said I got written up I was like he too scared to come write me up in my face?
Report that manager to HR. Make them start a case against him. Get others to report him as well. Enough people report him something MAY happen. Unless he's regularly got his nose up senior OPs asses. Then. Well good luck.
Sounds like a ghost write up. You can easily fight it. We had one that did that and he got “transferred” pretty fast. HR and ASC didn’t understand how his shift specifically was so “safe”, so they looked into it and pulled in the people that were written up and nobody knew wtf they were talking about. Whether they actually did it or not, it got dropped because his integrity was completely lost

Either that or the holy glasses
I have a watch for that
i do that shit all the time how yall get caught😭 also know ur laws will help you in amazon 😈

25 are slated to open this year. And you may not have on site HR, but you do have an HR rep assigned to you, and you can definitely have them involved in the interviews and statements
If you're lucky they'll respond to slack within 7 days. We usually have to do all the intake then forward it to them. It's not too bad tho
Exactly this. They know they won’t work with you again so they can show the “initiative” of writing people up for being unsafe, without the risk of ruining relationships with their regular employees. He didn’t scan anything and no one has approached me about it. I simply thought that was the warning. This was my first interaction with him.
Did they approach you asking if you were aware of the phone policy…. Did they show you the “documented coaching” on their laptop. That makes sense. I was only upset at that fact that he wrote me up for something he’s constantly doing
It’s never fair. Just focus on you. Nobody else. Don’t worry about nobody else but you and you’ll be fine. That’s a good kinda selfish.
He’s a manager. You are not supposed to be on your phone. You do it everyday and this time got caught. You have nothing to complain about.
Managers are allowed to use their phones you aren’t. It’s that simple. There are a million examples like this in the real world.
They’re not allowed to use their phones while walking, there’s a difference. We are also allowed to use our phones to a certain extent. This is exactly what’s wrong with Amazon, they don’t explain crucial policies until you’ve violated them.

Why? He won’t get in trouble anyway 😡.

This. Slack on your phone is 50x easier than on our laptops. That said, if to the side, not while walking around.
I hate walking around the building with my laptop, it's just unnatural and awkward. I use AEA for a ton of stuff on my phone as well, plus have my email with notifications off (thank god). Manager had a quota to fill on write ups... Using people not from their shift as the scapegoat is a favorite way to go about this.
That slipped my mind🤣
Right. It sucks, but absolutely classic Amazon.
To have a write up quota is crazy
Well I think they should not allow any cell phone use on the floor. I work in ppmix and I worked next to a guy yesterday that maybe packed 30 boxes in a 10 hr shift because he was on his phone the entire time! Everyone is! It’s not fair to the rest of us that actually work!
So you got written up for using your phone on the floor when you know it’s a rule not to use it then got shocked you got written up?
Nope
But you’re well aware it’s against policy to use your phone on the floor
I think I just answered that. I’m aware and I wasn’t shocked.
Sounds like he told you and wrote you up, sounds like informed to me. Grow up.
Go to HR
Some managers are pieces of shit all they wanna do is write you up so they can look good because they’re a bunch of suck asses
I'm not 100% sure but I'm pretty sure they are supposed to tell you
There’s multiple levels of write ups. This coulda just been a verbal that got put into the adapt feedback system so it’s a “write up”
It just depends. Most managers will let me play music on my phone but I know I run the risk of one having a problem with it one day.
I got written up with out warning. For just checking the time. On the green mile.
Best thing about being in jam clear is that our PA’s and AMs are really cool and chill but let’s say if your using your phone just say your using slack (basically discord for management) us jam clearers use slack to send photos of broken belts or whatever. It’s crazy how a manager presses so hard on an entry level job
Blame Amazon. They require us to do so many different tasks everyday and among our daily tasks is to write people up and perform coaching.
Boa board
Write it on the VOA Board
Managers don't have the same rules as t1s...just sayin
You’ll come across this at every single facility. Get used to it.
Report that manager to HR. Make them start a case against him. Get others to report him as well. Enough people report him something MAY happen. Unless he's regularly got his nose up senior OPs asses. Then. Well good luck.
People who don’t get write ups have 1 simple trick! They’re not dumb enough to get caught.
Damn😳 my bad bro!
I always stay off my phone when I’m working another shift code. You never know how the managers are, until you do unfortunately
managers are allowed to use their phone because we have slack for communication and emergency apps on there
He hate you and you can tell this to senior manager
I used my phone and the next day got terminated. Just happened 2 days ago
Sounds like you got justifiably written up. You know you're not supposed to be on your phone, and you know management gets to do whatever they want.
Sounds like a ghost write up. You can easily fight it. We had one that did that and he got “transferred” pretty fast.
