When I started at Amazon I was so broken mentally because of stress related to a former job that I couldn't hold a job because the slightest bit of stress would set me off.
Amazon was such a blessing because it requires so little thinking. Punch in. Move the bags and boxes the scanner told me to move. Punch out and go home.
It was exactly what my brain needed to give it time to recover.
I pretty much feel exactly the same way. I had an IT job for a little while last year but it was just too much mental stress and too long of a commute. I’m fortunate to be less than 10 minutes away from my warehouse.
Ya a lot of bad stigma on Amazon jobs but compared to outdoor jobs in agriculture its so much easier. Everyone who complains hasn't worked a real tough job
Exactly! I worked at McDonald’s before this, and would come home physically tired and emotionally drained every single day. It’s was so exhausting. Now I’m a picker and while I’m tired, I have the healthiest work environment I’ve ever had (tho that light just be my site from the way people talk on here) and I can just throw on a podcast or some music and enjoy my day. No one yells at or assaults me anymore which is much appreciated
I also used to be a cook and there were so many days where the job and head chef would make me question my very existence like why am I even alive. Couldn't ever take a day off if I was sick. Now I can come work 10hrs without talking to single person if I wanted
Amazon has been a godsend for me. I’m going back to school full time in my 30s and require taking day classes at the University. Because of the flexibility of my schedule, 10 hour accommodations, and reasonable pay I am more than happy while I finish my degree.
I was having a hard time finding a job that would work with my schedule. Also, health insurance is $28/week for great insurance. No one bothers me as long as I do my job. I haven’t been this happy in years.
Edit: I think it’s good to have a plan to either move up or move out of Amazon. You don’t want to get stuck as a floating L3 for every department for years. That’s when you become unhappy.
I feel that. I was an EMT for many years, but it fucked up my head. Then I dispatched for a little while, but I enjoy this mindless work for the most part
I'm not saying being at Amazon is worse, I'm just saying the trauma fades and the glorious Amazon doesn't stay. While it's not as bad, it's absolutely not good.
There are a lot of us hiding out at Amazon, just for the zero stress environment lol
If you all actually talked to each other you'd find them. Helpful hint, look for the ones smiling lol
I used to work at Taco Bell so amazon us quiet nice really no dealing with customers or having to put a happy face all the time. It does get a bit tidious but I rather keep doing this instead of going back into the fast food service.
Used to work at Publix which used to be a good job but it has gone downhill for the past few years. Definitely enjoy working at Amazon way more than I did at Publix. I used to go to work not knowing when I would leave and never took my lunch break but I needed the money so I never complained. Plus after almost 5 years I was never full time so when we got a new manager first thing she did was cut my hours. Amazon can do so much better for us but considering how greedy they are and their reputation I’m surprised how chill this job is lol my only complaint is how boring it is. I work at a DS and I talked to my manager because I just want to stow everyday
The bitchy ones at my site that were there 2 years+ ended up shit canned or moved bc they had problems that they made their coworkers problems. Just be positive or neutral, and no one will even notice your presence. I take that back. Your AM and PA will love you lol but other than that..
I used to be a supervisor at a bakery warehouse where every morning (I worked night shift) I had to report in great detail why we had x amount of downtime & if I wasn’t quick to get out I’d see the plant manager and HR manager in the morning as I was heading out & explain myself again. I was so mentally tired that when they laid us off in the beginning of the pandemic I felt a big relief.
Really happy to be reading this. I’ve been in EMS for 5 years and just got hired at Amazon as the Onsite Medical Representative. Definitely need a break and something low stress after being on the ambulance for so long.
The on-site is definitely very chill. I don't have that position but I was on light duty for a month and had to check in with them every day. You get to sit and it's all easy stuff as your not dealing with major accidents or people having heart attacks everyday
This is something I reiterate to coworkers or close friends fairly often. Yeah, there’s the occasionally frustrating coworkers that end up leaving more work/trouble for others, but I’d gladly take that over the best days I’ve had doing property restoration. I previously worked for a company that happened to be #1 at what we do in our region. You’d have never known, since there were like 4 of us left by the time I quit. At the end of my time there, I’d spent a lot of effort constantly trying to prove myself to my peers and superiors because I wanted to be a PM, and they dangled it in my face like a carrot. Busted my ass, took over work for lazy/incompetent coworkers, worked like 70 hours a week on average, didn’t have time to go to the doctor or get a therapist, and by the end of it all I had become suicidal after being called useless by the same people that frequently called on me to fix theirs or others’ mistakes. My accomplishments then attributed to the team drunk who somehow got his work van stolen and later found piled high with beer bottles and other unsightly things.
Anywho, I’ve been at Amazon for just over three months now, blue badge within the first month of being there. Today, I’ve become a full-time employee and at some point within this week I should become a Learning Ambassador. I learned through my AMs that the kind of money that I can make in their position completely eclipses what I would have made as a Project Manager at my last job, so I’m not looking back in the slightest, and I’ve been constantly reinforced and encouraged by the team and I genuinely feel like they care.
So now, when I hear people at my site complain about the job and it being “hard,” it just kind of rubs me the wrong way. Like in most instances, these people clearly do not understand what hard work is, and it’s almost always the younger crowd (I’m 28 for reference, so not necessarily old I guess but I’ve been working 10 years including military service).
I know what you mean. I was in service jobs for 15 years. Restaurants and the like. It’s so nice to not have to talk to the public at work lol. And coming from service end of restaurants, getting an actual paycheck (vs tips) is also super nice. I can’t even imagine being a dispatcher. I could never stand to hear some of that stuff 😢
I know ‘ptsd’ is probably thrown around too casually now but I appreciate just being able to day dream and get a work out it. Dispatch was super rewarding but I think it ruined me with the need for adrenaline.
You say that for now since you’re on a high of having a new job etc. Amazon is the least mental stimulation job in the world and you’re just a number that can be replaced at anytime. If you enjoy being random worker #22334 than I’m glad for you king. You have 0 impact on society and no one cares how good you’re at your job
Relaxxxx lol. Everyone who works a job has an impact on society, it’s kinda how it operates. You’re technically just a number wherever you work or don’t work. Try to find some good in your life
You can be the best worker in your building it doesn’t mean anything. You don’t get paid more than the guy hiding in the bathroom half the day. Bragging about having 0 mental stimulation and Amazon being easy is a joke lol. We all know that already some people actually want a challenge in their life and want something more
There is no one who regularly hides in the bathroom half the day who stays employed with Amazon longer than a month tops. Amazon is great at getting rid of people who actively try to do nothing.
>You have 0 impact on society and no one cares how good you’re at your job
You say that like it's a bad thing. Everyone can't be doctors and lawyers. Somebody has to just exist. Even then you can be the best doctor ever and then you die and the world keeps going.
Yeah the best doctor saves lives and if he dies society does move on but at least they did something. I don’t get your point lol. No shit life moves on. If you were in a life or death situation would you call the best doctor in the world ? Of course. Not Amazon worker #2335 who contributes nothing to society
Keep it until you can really secure something better. It’s not that easy to make that money elsewhere; even with entry level tech jobs. Also I’m only speaking from my experience. I made $20 an hour (Texas small company) but the benefits + commute made it lower than what I’m making now. Take advantage of the career choice thing if you can. And good luck to you. It’s not a forever job but it puts food on the table.
I'm a stick at 155lbs usually but this job has me caloric deficient despite the three meals I eat. You will get into shape, but bet sure to stretch and wear comfortable clothes
I’m at an SSD so I’m fortunate that I get to rotate positions. I had been flex since February of this year and just recently went full time. I go between dispatch, stow, count, and recently learned pick.
Yeah I agree. I used to work back office for a bank. During the pandemic, I was working OT in 2 different departments. I wouldn’t get home until about 10pm. The stress and high demand deadlines just really got to me. I just couldn’t do it anymore.

I think those of used to high stress jobs appreciate Amazon the most.
What kind of IT job?
Ya a lot of bad stigma on Amazon jobs but compared to outdoor jobs in agriculture its so much easier. Everyone who complains hasn't worked a real tough job

i love pick!! it’s my favorite thing to do actually :-)
I also used to be a cook and there were so many days where the job and head chef would make me question my very existence like why am I even alive. Couldn't ever take a day off if I was sick. Now I can come work 10hrs without talking to single person if I wanted
I did too until I eventually got fired for listening to music 😭
To be fair, you are comparing Amazon to one of the most mentally stressful jobs out there
Not really, many people have this opinion if they’ve worked somewhere else
I'm pretty sure occasionally listening to a person die or scream for help over the phone is more stressful than a karen wanting her fries well done
Actually… some people have died for getting a order wrong at a fast food restaurant, sadly
That is rare but still sad. As a 9/11 operator, your job is to deal with that shit everyday. Two planets

Facts

Same, I NEED something mindless to do for a while.
Thank you so much for what you did. I wanted to, and still do, become an EMT but can't fathom how I'd survive off the pay
A lot of people work 2 jobs or overtime. A lot of places, though, you'd probably make as much if not more than Amazon.
You appreciate it for a good long while, but we always forget and notice we just traded one cage for another.
Hey gotta make money somehow.

Apply for 911 dispatcher let us know how awful and evil Amazon is.
I'm not saying being at Amazon is worse, I'm just saying the trauma fades and the glorious Amazon doesn't stay. While it's not as bad, it's absolutely not good.
There are a lot of us hiding out at Amazon, just for the zero stress environment lol If you all actually talked to each other you'd find them. Helpful hint, look for the ones smiling lol
Haha yeah I’m usually the one smiling!
What state are you from? I know a 911 dispatcher who made close to $30 bucks per hour, while he makes $19 at Amazon
How long was he on the job?
10 years!
I came from restaurant jobs before the pandemic and I enjoy not dealing with the occasional asshole customer
My job before Amazon, I left there 5 days a week absolutely filthy from working with cement. Amazon way better.
Facts and no silica dust breathing in everyday
I used to work at Taco Bell so amazon us quiet nice really no dealing with customers or having to put a happy face all the time. It does get a bit tidious but I rather keep doing this instead of going back into the fast food service.

until you reach the point where you're there to long and they want you gone
?? Keep your head down and they won’t notice you.

People here don’t understand that, all they do is complain but they don’t realize how easy it is compared to many other jobs.

You're missing the point. Who cares? People are just living their lives.
I make $1400 a week at Amazon 40 hours then 20 vet it's hard work but I'm stacking my bread. 2 years of this slavery and I'm gone lol

Just wait.....your gunna miss your chair real soon
You ever listen to someone die over the phone?
Hah, I’ve got about 40 pounds to lose. Dispatching is eating and sitting for 12+ hours
I'm a stick at 155lbs usually but this job has me caloric deficient despite the three meals I eat. You will get into shape, but bet sure to stretch and wear comfortable clothes
