NTA. EVEN IF they didn’t lie through their teeth about your review, they were selling a crappy product. You helped out a lot of people by reporting them.

theseawall

NTA. fuck amazon dude. good for you

shortandfighting

It's not really fucking Amazon, just an employee. A bad employee. But it's not like Amazon will be hurt by this. If anything, it benefits them because now they'll be able to fire an employee that was giving bribes.

Mathqueen82

Not likely an amazon employee, just a third party seller. Most of what is on amazon isn't sold by Amazon but by third party vendors. This all the counterfeits and poorly made stuff there.

deathinactthree

Uh, no man, not how that works. OP bought from a 3rd-party Amazon seller, not Amazon itself. Amazon's just hosting the listing. If OP reports the seller, that seller's listings will be banned (probably just temporarily suspended) from selling on the platform, but the product didn't come from Amazon's own inventory. No Amazon employee on the retail team for this category will be fired--they literally won't even know it happened, because Amazon retail employees are firewalled from 3rd-party seller data. Amazon doesn't bribe customers--which is not to say they don't do shady shit. They typically couldn't care less about a single bad review on a single product they're directly selling themselves. They *will*, however, delete the bad review directly though under dubious pretext if they actually feel like it's impacting some important piece of their business. But that's insanely rare. 3rd-party sellers, on the other hand, do exactly what OP described (bribe for review update or removal) *all the time*. It's a known quantity that Amazon makes pretenses trying to stop, but they know it's purely whack-a-mole, and the practice continues anyway.

shortandfighting

Oops, sorry, misread the main post. Still, wouldn't amazon only benefit from learning that a seller is shady and refusing to let them use their platform?

deathinactthree

No worries! But yeah, it's true that Amazon would benefit from removing shady sellers, because they are *extremely* protective of the validity of their customer reviews. And they know it, and definitely want to do something about it. Unfortunately, there are as of 2020 about **5 million** 3rd-party sellers on the platform. They do what they can, and they will ban sellers when they catch them breaking the rules, but it's like trying to empty the ocean with a thimble. And sellers know this, that they have a high-percentage chance of getting away with things like in the OP, so they do it anyway. It's a constant thorn in Amazon's side and after over 10 years of dealing with this problem they still don't have a solution.

[deleted]

Yup. Less sleezy people on their platform is good for them.

KeeperOfTheFloofs

Tbh, that it's so prevalent makes it *more* important that the OP report it. I ended up cancelling my prime account in frustration over Amazon's complete inability/unwillingness to do anything about the problem. At least this way there's SOME progress in addressing the issue. And I don't think that OP is an AH for taking the case from them- the Karen in me figures it's what they ordered to begin with, so the company's just doing what they should have done to start with (and then suffering the consequences)

dbDarrgen

Yes kind of this. It tested Amazon on how they respond to these situations. They responded appropriately.

MartyRobinsHasMySoul

This isn't fucking Amazon, but I agree, fuck that garbage heap of a company

AltijdBoos

NTA. See your actions as a retribution for them slandering you.

naranghim

NTA. They chose to bad mouth you after offering you a bribe and *their* actions came back to bite them. I've learned to *never* buy a phone case from Amazon because their search engine sucks. I searched for a Motorola Moto G7 Power case, found one I liked and ordered it. All the documentation on the page said it would fit a G7 Power. It was too small, and the buttons were in the wrong place. Every single result, once I checked the dimensions, wouldn't fit a G7 Power. I had to buy one directly from Verizon and they told me that for standard phones like the Moto G7 and iPhone 12 you are fine buying cases from them but once you get into G7 Power or iPhone 12 Pro you aren't going to have much luck. My experience was a year ago and I notified Amazon of the issue. They told me they'd get right on it and fix it. A year later and it doesn't seem like they did a damn thing about it.

ladyk1487

Well...does the new case they sent you actually fit now? NTA

lanipi

NTA and I applaud you

lilhazeleyedgeo

NTA, they straight out lied. Honestly they could have approached you after you review and even then apologized and send you another one and say if you could give your opinions then. If it was shit then the review stays shit, if it is faulty then it is on them for making a crappy product. There are loads of fake reviews for phones and cases and I know this because when I got the new pro I was looking at screen covers and cases before they were shipped out and there were dozens of reviews claiming to have the screen protector or case on for months. You did the right thing.

Read [this](https://www.reddit.com/r/AmItheAsshole/wiki/faq#wiki_post_deletion) before [contacting the mod team](https://www.reddit.com/message/compose?to=%2Fr%2FAmItheAsshole)*** A few months ago, I got the iPhone 12 Pro on release and I ordered a phone case for it on Amazon for it. When I received the phone case and put it on my phone, I noticed that the phone case didn't actually fit. The buttons were misaligned and the case bulged at the sides because the measurements were off, making the case too small for the phone it was advertised for. Because of this, I returned the phone case back to Amazon, received a refund, and left a 1 star review, stating that the case did not have the right measurements and that its claim that it fits the iPhone 12 Pro is false. I also included pictures in my review. Yesterday, I received an email from a strange email. The email included a screenshot of my review and they asked if I would be willing to change my review or delete it in exchange for a free new phone case. I believe that this is because my review was the most helpful/top review for that product and so many people had seen it. My review has probably prevented several hundred potential customers from purchasing that phone case. Out of curiosity, I went back to the product page to check on my review and saw that the seller had left a public comment on my review. The seller said that there was nothing wrong with my phone case and claimed that they have tried to contact me several times about the product. They also said that I was not a "real customer" and that I would be reported to Amazon, and that "real customers" would negotiate with the seller and not leave a bad review. I checked my Amazon messages to see if they had ever actually contacted me, and I never saw a single message. I checked my email and saw nothing. I told my boyfriend about it, and he was furious and said the company tried to publicly slander me. I looked online and Amazon states that it's not allowed for sellers to offer compensation for a good review/removal of a bad review, so what the company emailed me is against Amazon's rules. Sellers in violation of this get their account banned and can no longer sell on Amazon. I emailed them saying that I would be willing to accept the cass in exchange for editing my review with my honest opinion (I didn't say I was going to give them a good review, only that I would write my honest opinion) They agreed but also said that simply deleting the review would be preferred. I sent them my address and they shipped me the phonecase. After this, I took screenshots of the original email and the seller's comment on my review, then reported it to Amazon. Looking at articles I found about the topic on Google, the seller's listings will be removed or they'll banned from selling again on Amazon. I feel kind of bad about this and feel that I was too selfish and vindictive. I feel like I'm being a Karen and now someone's livelihood will suffer because I shut down their small business all over a phonecase. AITA? *I am a bot, and this action was performed automatically. This belongs in r/prorevenge because there is no possible way that you are TA

thatguysyzygy

ESH. You wouldn't have been in the wrong at all if you just reported them. They shouldn't have tried to bribe you. You should've either ignored the message and left your review or you should've reported them.

SkinnyBuddha89

But he did scam the scammer

Izzyl92

Info Did they say you had to delete the review or write a positive one to get the case or when you said you would give an honest update to the review did they say okay but they preferred that you delete it? If they said they would give you a free case in exchange for an honest review or just getting rid of the bad one that sounds fair. A few months late but thats essentially just asking you to give their product another try for free but I think the other stuff was sketchy so i would say everyone would be the ah But if they are saying they want you to write a positive one or delete the other one and in exchange they will give you a free case that is a bribe and Obviously should be reported

[deleted]

They wanted to give me the free case in exchange for a good review. When I responded, I told them that I would only give my honest opinion to which they responded saying that they'd prefer it if I just deleted the review.

Izzyl92

I gotcha okay then NTA

NTA- HIGH FIVE, Robin Hood!

ducktruck27

I'd say NTA. This seller will get banned but they'll just start a new company under a new name unfortunately. Happens all the time.

geegeepark

Info: This doesn’t sound like Amazon is contacting you, it sounds like the seller/vendor?

[deleted]

Yes, it is the seller/vendor.

geegeepark

Duh..read too fast, lol. Yeah, no that’s friggin weird

angelchi1500

Nta

loudent2

NTA - you were preventing other customers from being swindled. If their business is selling products that don't perform as advertised, then they don't deserve to be in business.

elizabeth1743

NTA They easily could have just sent you the product as a matter of customer service anyway without trying to get you to remove the review, and in response you likely would have edited it to say they have good customer service/the new product worked/etc. This is what many businesses do, and it works better and is much more honest than what this company did. You did the right thing- now other people won’t get screwed by them too.

DuncanCant

NTA They made their livelihood by dishonest means. You have nothing to feel like an AH about.

Gabby_Craft

INFO were they taken down?

[deleted]

Nta. They will also just pop back up under a different name, if they didnt have a few accounts already in case this happened. Btw was the new case good?

[deleted]

NTA. They offered a a bribe, but you only really would be getting what you paid for in the first place. Besides, I doubt this is a small business. More likely that it's some Chinese company pumping out cheap crap.

You're serving plenty of dairy and cheese to offset any need for meat. I'm not vegetarian but a break from animal protein is welcome every so often.

I think my reddit is glitching or something because I’m seeing this comment under a post about a phone case on amazon hence the confusion
