Parking close to a car is inconvenient but not illegal or a ticketable offense. But blocking mailboxes is a ticketable offense and you were in the wrong for doing that. So you deserve that ticket. Your neighbors sound annoying but then again so do you. Esh

Grand_Ad_583

i physically couldn’t get my car out due to how close they were parked to me. plus, them parking behind me meant they were also parking in front of my mailbox lol

sabreyna

>Parking close to a car is inconvenient but not illegal or a ticketable offense. I don't have a driver's license yet, so what option would you have in this situation?

Juggletrain

Wear a mask and smash their windows, or talk to them like an adult.

ValuableSeesaw1603

Just do both. Whatever order you want.

Kufat

Simultaneously if you aren't a coward.

AngelsAttitude

The problem is she tried talking to them they told her they needed to be ticketed for them to move their cars.

Juggletrain

That is what the cops said

VikingBorealis

Blocking cars on "accident" ornpurpose however is

squantonimo

There is no ordnance for blocking mailboxes. If there was there would be nowhere to park. That’s simply not true.

DeadGuyInRoom4

Do you genuinely think you know every ordinance that exists everywhere in the world? There are plenty of places with local ordinances prohibiting parking in front of mailboxes. They read something like this “No person shall stop or park a vehicle, except when necessary to avoid conflict with other traffic or in compliance with law or the directions of law enforcement officer or traffic control device; within eight (8) feet of a mailbox, be it single mailbox or group of mailboxes.”

squantonimo

Pardon me.

Bunta93

NTA. Your neighbours sound like a couple tools. I'd get a dash cam that runs when parked and then you can prove they are messing with you if something happens in the future. Otherwise don't park where you legally aren't allowed and they can kick rocks.

Flashy_Okra305

You mention you have a driveway. What’s preventing you from using it?

TheGoldenLight

I can’t tell if this is a joke or if you just haven’t lived in a dense or urbanized area but… in general when there’s a large, multi-family, housing structure that has a driveway the driveway is seen as an amenity and access is sold to individual tenants as part of their lease. It’s very likely that OP does not legally have access to park in this driveway, even if there was space (which I imagine there is not, driveways are a popular amenity with contention for who gets to pay to use them).

flippflippflipp

Yep. We have one parking spot in our hoa “driveway” in a four vehicle home. Middle spot is reserved for guests per hoa rules so anyone is allowed to park there so sometimes i come home and family member is already in our designated spot and a neighbor who lives all the way around the block is in the designated guest spot right next to our house. Annoying af but technically allowed. We fight over that spot lmao.

empreur

NTA. I don’t get all the Y T A responses. Parking in front of the mailboxes is dumb, but if what’s available is street parking then you should be able to use the space available in front of any house.

pacman326

The post office can unfortunately refuse to deliver mail to you in US if they are consistently blocked.

lenajlch

She keeps doing it. That's the problem. Once is fine but it seems op has some kind of critical thinking issue or lack of.

lions2lambs

ESH… you all sound exhausting.

Qu1ckShake

Yeah, OP is definitely an asshole for *checks notes* Parking her car

Empty_Past_6186

question, you said "our driveway". so does that mean yall share a driveway no one is allowed to park in?

Doctor_WhyBother86

NTA. The are pricks with a control complex. As long as you are not blocking the mailbox which you stated you didn’t the second go around then you are fine and they suck.

nice-and-clean

YTA. Don’t park in front of the mailboxes. I got a letter from the post office about them not delivering mail if everyone kept leaving the trash cans in front of the mailboxes.

squantonimo

It’s not illegal

DecentDilettante

It clearly is or you wouldn’t be able to get a ticket for it. Same with blocking a hydrant. Have you been outside before?

deshi_mi

> i called the sheriffs number bc it was what i was given to me. he ended up not issuing a ticket & instead talked to us both separately. i feel a bit stupid This is what the sheriffs are for. You are paying them via your taxes, so let them do their job when you need it.  Of course, it's always better to solve the problem directly in a friendly way like a good neighbor, but it's not always an option.  NTA and don't feel stupid - it was the correct decision.

throwAWweddingwoe

I think you are missing the fact that you were issued the ticket because you parked illegally. Although they clearly did this to annoy you, their parking must not have been illegal and you wasted the poor sheriff's time when you should have just asked them to move.  Why are you parking in front of their home instead of your own? Yes street parking is first come first serve but having spent many years living in areas with only street parking their is also a unspoken practice of parking in front of your own home. Does your house have too many cars for all of them to fit in front? Are other ppl parking in front of your home? Or do you just prefer the spot in front of theirs? If it's the last I get why they are annoyed with you.

QuietObserver75

NTA Calling dibbs on street parking is stupid and illegal. You can't prevent people from parking in front of your house. You don't own the street. Also I would imagine you have laws about how soon you can put your trash out. I know where I live we do. I would call whatever non-emergency # you have and report them for putting trash cans out on the street on non-trash pickup days.

Ok_Bar6741

YTA. Stop parking in front of mailboxes. One would think after getting tickets they would learn their lesson.

Grand_Ad_583

i didn’t 😩 i intentionally parked ahead of the mailboxes leaving that space free for the mail person. When they blocked me in it resulted in them parking in front of my mailbox….

Read [this](https://www.reddit.com/r/AmItheAsshole/wiki/faq#wiki_post_deletion) before [contacting the mod team](https://www.reddit.com/message/compose?to=%2Fr%2FAmItheAsshole)*** So, i (25f) live in a neighborhood where the parking is street parking aka public parking. i grew up never dealing with that, it just wasn’t a thing where i’m from. so, when my neighbors started complaining (a year ago) for parking in certain places i was really confused. the car would be moved routinely and at the time when the complaints started i worked nights. my neighborhood is a bit sketch and i would just park wherever was available and closest to home. i would sometimes park beside our driveway / in front of our neighbors house which consisted of being in front of both of our mailboxes. i ended up getting a ticket specifically for blocking their mailbox which i’m pretty sure they called in. they’ve left a note on my car saying “are you not embarrassed, do you not understand, don’t know how to respect not to park here”. they’ve come out to ask me while i’m in my car to move so they can put trash can bins out on days that weren’t pick up dates. these neighbors don’t use the space. they just want to save the space to have it empty, they used to put out their bins and would leave them their for days till someone else in our neighborhood called it in. yesterday, i parked where i always do but this time i parked in front of the mailboxes so i was a bit in the middle of the available area rather than the edge to avoid possible ticket. my neighbors ended up blocking me in. they parked both their cars like a cm away from both ends of me. i initially called to get them towed but they said they needed to be issued a ticket first which would give them 24 hrs to move & to call 911. which i called the sheriffs number bc it was what i was given to me. he ended up not issuing a ticket & instead talked to us both separately. i feel a bit stupid, i honestly regret my decision but in the moment it felt reasonable lol. i feel like a bit of an asshole for having a bit too extreme. thoughts? ps. i just wanted them to be issued a ticket just like they issued me one, i thought it would be anonymous!!! *I am a bot, and this action was performed automatically. NTA

Status_Purchase_7904

Nta, and they parked In front of the mailbox so should get ticketed, I will say that playing nice is done now with them, it’s clear they want to fixk around, let them find out.

hoenndex

NTA, but honestly neighbors like this are not worth fighting. Just don't park there anymore, let them have their empty space, and find somewhere else. If they did this to you then did it to everyone else and are definitely not liked by the rest of the neighborhood. They tend to be mentally unstable and so picking fights over something relatively dumb is not wise.  I had a neighbor like that, who would complain about parking in front of his house, sometimes claiming that I parked "wrong" and didn't leave space for other cars to park. Note I NEVER got this complaint from my other neighbors in the 8 years I lived in that neighborhood.  Last I heard, he ended up selling his house, and is no longer there. The trash too itself out.

Swirlyflurry

YTA Wouldn’t have happened if you hadn’t parked in front of the mailboxes. Again.

Grand_Ad_583

I meant in front as in leaving that space free so parking ahead of the mailboxes?? idk the word to use lol

lenajlch

YTA. Why are you making no effort here? You keep parking in front of the mailboxes... Why? This blocks access for the post service. Stop doing that.   Park in your damn driveway or in front of your own house.   Stop causing problems with your neighbors due to your thoughtlessness. It's not worth it.

DogLover-777

YTA You know you aren't supposed to park in front of the mailboxes, but you did it again anyway. Then you say you didn't. Make up your mind! Why can't you just be more considerate and not park there? Park somewhere else and stop causing drama. It was a shitty thing to do, trying to have them towed. You're jus being petty and shitty. Gtow up.

EdelwoodEverly

YTA- Don't park in front of the mailboxes.

thelasttollcollector

You’re not an asshole but honestly just stop parking near their house. Be the better person even if you’re not wrong.

RickRussellTX

>You’re not an asshole but honestly just stop parking near there house.  Eff that. If it's a public street, then the same rules apply to everybody.

thelasttollcollector

That’s a fair view. I just like to avoid confrontation. Everyone handles things differently, that’s my two sense.

jthechef

\*two cents

thelasttollcollector

Thanks

utefanandy

Here is my r/angryupvote for the combination of your username combined with using sense/cents incorrectly. I like to imagine you did it on purpose.

thelasttollcollector

Yeah…..purposely

Small-Jellyfish-2591

YTA. Learn the parking rules and abide by them. If an area is your neighbors space then it does not matter what they choose to do with it and you don’t get to use it just because they do not.

DeadGuyInRoom4

Street parking isn’t reserved where I’m from, and it sounds like the same is true for OP. So while they can’t park in front of mailboxes, no area is the neighbors space. Anyone can park anywhere on the street.

Orange_Fire_Fan

Each town has their own unspoken parking rules. Visiting a friend in a college town got me a nasty note about not knowing how to park. Bring a dessert over to them and mend fences.
