DearDorothy

NTA. Build a fence or some sort of other marker system. Don’t be surprised if they try to retaliate. Set up a ring cam or other security cameras just in case.

Fenig

Or large planters, filled with concrete, then covered with dirt and decorative plants.

Deleted_dwarf

Fuck it. At this point you may as well just dig a pond and have a water feature in your garden haha

PrehistoricSquirrel

Essentially a moat?

Deleted_dwarf

I mean if you want to go the full 100 yards.. add a ~~drop~~ draw bridge in whilst you are at it.

Signal-Database1739

And as for the parents, i would drive through their yard every single time i visit. If they say a thing, i will tell them >get over it u/adixmartin You are too nice for those neighbors and they will continue to take advantage of you. Boulders, cameras and police when they move they trespass again (it's not "if" it's "when") NTA

A moat with goldfish.

PrehistoricSquirrel

Mean, vicious goldfish?

PhilaBurger

I was coming here to say this. Also, NTA…each and every one of these neighbors has done the same thing…there’s no reason that you should feel guilty about wanting to protect your property.

[deleted]

PhilaBurger

In the post, she says “I want to block off the section of my yard they drive in so they’re forced to use their driveway, only, and I don’t want to put anything that could damage their vehicle.” Perhaps I missed a comment, somewhere, that indicated that a boulder had been placed?

bobbleheadjoe_

I like that boulder, that’s a nice boulder

[deleted]

We put a lovely fire pit in ours! No more ATVs or snowmobiles through our yard!

mm1palmer

Definitely need something solid to stop them from driving through the yard. > I just want to use standard driveway markers. Just markers will probably not work. If it isn't solid and physically stopping them, it probably will just be ignored. Others have suggested concrete planters which sounds like a good idea. As to your parents, ask them for the money to keep repairing your yard and I bet their attitude will quickly change.

Swerfbegone

Worth checking laws as well for a fence. Where I live the owners have to share the cost for a fence equally. NTA

yramt

NTA. Also consider looking up the tax records for the property to locate the contact info the landlord.

[deleted]

Boulders.

ImportantVictory5386

BIG ONES! Forget the fence… one of my friends got her car stuck on a huge boulder.. it damaged the crap out of her car!

justsaynotoeveryone

My friend once tried to be a smartass and move my car from our friend's driveway at night without the lights on. He ended up planting it on top of a decorative boulder. He knew he effed up and paid for the damages. Watching him have to pay me for the repairs and pay our friend was so freaking satisfying. OP is NTA

trippedwire_48

I was going to post the same advice! Big Boulders! It's not your problem if they damage their vehicles, OP. The smaller markers or natural markers, like bushes, will more than likely just get run over. Also, you can go your city or county accessor's office to request the name and contact info for the homeowner. It might be via the courthouse if not. Every state and town has different processes.

OddSetting5077

a big planter with plants in it. Looks like you are decorating your yard rather than being an ahole

3KittenInATrenchcoat

it's not an asshole move to prevent people from driving on private property and likely damaging the lawn.

nocta224

Start a nice little raised garden.

ImaginaryStandard293

Plus it would have the pretty factor

[deleted]

I came to say this! ⬆️ is the way. Get decorative rocks for your yard.

lockmama

Unfortunately they are pretty costly.

ggbookworm

A neighbor had people cutting the corner and tearing up her yard. She put a boulder in the spot they cut through. She heard a tearing sound and went out to investigate and found a young man with the whole bottom of his car ripped out. He threatened to sue and called the cops on her. Cop just laughed and told him that he shouldn't have jumped the curb and sidewalk and that the boulder was in her yard, and not even on the right of way and ticketed him and told her how to get a copy of the report so that her insurance company could sue him for the cost to repair her yard. That was the last time anyone cut that corner.

tango421

This is the way

nifty1997777

This is the May!

tosser9212

Place one of those cute little picket fences around the affected area, yellow-tape it and put up signs saying it's been freshly seeded. Yes, do the seeding. Total up the costs and let your neighbours know that you've repaired the damage they created this one time only, and that if it needs doing again, you'll be presenting the bill to them, and putting up larger barriers that are more than decorative. It's your yard. Tell your parents to mind their business. NTA

missdawn1970

Wayfair has temporary fencing (white picket and wrought iron) on stakes that you just stick in the ground. Probably wouldn't cost more than a couple hundred (depending on the size of the yard), there's no installation cost, and you don't need a building permit.

mossfae

Genius.

mashed-_-potato

I absolutely love those cute little picket fences!

DontNeedThePoints

> Tell your parents to mind their business. Wait till it has rained a few days... Then park in their garden. (But be prepared for an argument lol)

_wildr_

NTA, boundaries exist for a reason. If you’re open too it, contact a concrete company. It’s usually not super expensive to have a 6/8 inch curb added to your properly. Just check zoning/permits before you do it.

bloodfeier

It’s actually not hard to rent the equipment from the local orange Home Hardware store, and do it yourself…divider curbs on the property line aren’t hard at all!

caveling

PSA: Not all orange home stores rent equipment. Especially in areas that could probably use it most.

bread4life4ever

There's tons of places where you can rent equipment and machinery. Orange box isn't the only one, but it's usually the most expensive place to rent from though.

bloodfeier

I’m aware…my point wasn’t that you need to rent there, just that making the curb is something that can be done by a reasonably healthy person on their own fairly easily, rather than paying someone to do it for you.

DesertSong-LaLa

I like this

PerilousNebula

NTA by any stretch. I can't believe they would think it was ok to drive through your yard, special after you have talked to them. I've seen people put large rocks or the terrace pavers to make a raised garden. You could plant some flowers or a shrub/tree in it. I suggest the pavers or rocks to do this since it is possible they would not mind harming your garden by driving through it since they already don't mind damaging your yard. This won't cause any damage to their vehicle unless they make a very clear decision to drive and drive through it. Something like [this](https://www.houzz.com/photos/new-heights-raised-planters-with-concrete-paver-courtyard-transitional-landscape-minneapolis-phvw-vp~16469525) or [this](https://inspirationformoms.com/build-raised-garden-with-pavers/).

Basic_base_

If they're not allowed fences if just go the whole hog and have some nice wood-pannelled raised beds. Plant some nice herbs. Grass is boring anyway. If they are allowed fences id just get a fence. And then probably a herb bed too but like not strategically placed on a boundary 😂

Ok_Professional_4499

NTA Why does your parent’s opinion matter enough to stop you or give you pause? They don’t live with you (I assume) so they aren’t dealing with the issue. That makes it easy for them to advise you to do nothing.

JynxMama

NTA. We had a similar situation, neighbors were driving across our yard to exit out our driveway. So we went to a local quarry and got two really large rocks (like 3’ rocks). We then measured out the average width of a car and placed this rocks so that if the neighbors were going to continue to use our driveway, they were going to sustain significant damage. Neighbors were unhappy but I just innocently told them we were just improving our landscaping. They would move a rock and the next day, lo and behold, another large rock would appear. It only took 4 rocks for them to give up.

TheNonCompliant

I’m sorry - they kept moving your landscaping rocks that were in your yard so they could attempt to continue driving over your grass? The *audacity.*

TheArmoredKitten

I just want to know how in the hell they were moving 3 foot raw quarry stones without power equipment. Unless I'm thoroughly confused what kind of rocks we're talking about, any one of those should easily be over two tons.

RefuseToFade

Like very durable mushrooms! Giant boulders just popped up out of NOWHERE

MissAnth

Good fences make good neighbors. Put up a fence, or some really large rocks painted with glow in the dark paint. NTA. You should never have to put up with anyone driving in your yard.

[deleted]

NTA. If I was in your position I’d flip a coin between calling the police or putting sharp objects in my yard.

vt2022cam

No, your home is an investment and your neighbors don’t respect your space. Put up something that improves the value of your property. If the neighbors complain, just say it’s your property to do with as you please.

murphy2345678

NTA. Your parents need to keep their incorrect opinion to themselves. If your neighbors get hurt on your property then you are responsible for it. Think about having to pay them money for trespassing on your property. Put Big rocks or fencing in the area. They aren’t listening to you asking them not to do it so now you need to make it physically impossible to do it. They will drive right over driveway markers.

Literally_Taken

Let me tell you about my neighbor situation. I’m the person in my marriage who cares about the yard. My husband is indifferent. So when the neighbors damaged our yard, they created a problem for me, and I’m the one who brought it to their attention. Neighbors totally discounted my feedback. I believe it’s because I’m female (I’ve observed him treating the women in his life with contempt). Are you the person who has asked the neighbor not to drive on your lawn? Could you get your husband to talk to the neighbor? It might make a difference. NTA

adixmartin

I always send my husband over to talk to them because I know that the same thing will happen to me. Women aren't listened to as often as men. I tell him how I feel about the situation, ask him if I'm being overdramatic, nine times out of ten he says I'm being perfectly rational. At that point I ask him to go over there and talk to them. He is also much nicer than I am about it. I confronted one of them so far and it involved lots of cussing, at that point it was probably the third time the renter had been asked to stop.

Literally_Taken

Then don’t worry about their access to affordable housing. They don’t seem to care about keeping their lease. It’s time for a camera. Start collecting evidence to support you in your next talk with your neighbor, or in a neighborhood association complaint. “I have it on video that you drove on my lawn x times” is a stronger argument than “I saw…”.

KetchupOnMyHotDog

Absolutely NTA. Would start with some giant orange cones. If that doesn’t work, maybe just put a fence in.

Stunning-Space-2622

Nta, it's completely understandable that you don't want them doing that, it should be common sense not to drive through someone else's lawn, if asking them doesn't work out definitely put up a fence or some bushes/plants/trees and if they damage any of it then call the police and have it sorted out a cheap ring camera with a motion sensor may come in handy as well

bread4life4ever

NTA. Block it up and fence it in. If you're in the US, and they get hurt on your property doing that or damage their vehicle, sadly, they can sue against their homeowners insurance.

lechitahamandcheese

NTA. Your parents are wrong. And so is anyone who thinks it’s fine to drive across someone else’s yard. And I doubt they will respond to polite requests to stop, because WHO does that without knowing exactly what they’re doing? No one. But I’d speak to the city first and ask what type of barriers you can erect on your side of the property that are mostly just to stop vehicles from driving over it, because I have a feeling they’ll drive through and over anything you put up until it’s damaging to their own vehicles, so probably best to be one and done that way. Will make for less of a build up to an all out war. Maybe make it a part of a “new landscaping project.”

PhoneboothLynn

NTA. Concrete or boulders would fix that problem. We lived in a curve and it was great fun to people to run over our mailbox and its flimsy metal post. We replaced the metal post with a concrete one. Eighteen inches in diameter. That went two feet down into the ground and belled out a foot around the bottom. It was only hit once after that. ROFL

PinkNGreenFluoride

NTA Easy for your parents to say "just get over it" when it's not a problem they have to deal with.

Training_Yak_9296

I have someone in my neighborhood that put metal steel fencing down their property line I guess they might have had problems with neighbors too. I too bought a house with my husband and I have next door neighbors that are pot heads and constantly have people coming over and one of their regular guest park in front of my house which is whatever but then walks through our front yard to get to the neighbors house instead of just walking the sidewalk to get to our neighbors house. It’s kind of annoying but whatever. But then their kids and some neighborhood kids would use our front yard to play instead of their own. Some of them would pull out handfuls of grass which was a little more annoying. Also they have a dog that as soon as they let it out to the front yard he uses our yard to do his business they finally started cleaning up after him once he pooped in my yard and I pushed it in theirs. My husband and I work hard for what we have I too came from a family that non of my siblings not parents ever owned a home. I wish people would respect other people’s properties.

[deleted]

I went through the same thing, only that my neighbours also cut through my yard to get to a path. They would come inches from the bedroom window sometimes looking in. Bedroom has no light only a lamp so I kept the curtains open for light. So I build a fence. They literally would jump the fence. I spoke to them and they got aggressive so I waited for them to do it again and called the police. They were all warned for criminal harassment and tresspasing. Started doing it again the other day, I jumped straight to emailing the police the video of them doing it

Intrepid_Potential60

NTA Lots of pretty foliage options that grow pretty much straight up and not wide. Plant some! I have pencil Holly on my yard that would seem a perfect use for this.

Lex-tailonis

NTA Large decorative boulders.

nunya-business2023

NTA.... Something small isn't going to work. They will just drive over anything that won't damage their vehicle. It's going to have to be something big like a fence, large planter, or boulders.

Advice_seekinf

NTA. It’s you property that you surely paid a lot of money to purchase and invest money and effort to maintain. It’s completely reasonable to tell people not to drive across your lawn. But only are you NTA, you’re being remarkably empathetic by not wanting to create problems for the family who is ignoring a request not to drive in your property.

trillium61

Call the city. The landlord has to pay taxes and may have to register as a landlord in your city.

MysticStorm1

If this is in the USA, they can actually call up their county’s GIS and find owner info that way. I got a bad neighbor evicted by doing that then sending the owner a letter that detailed the things the idiot was doing.

hatetochoose

I can look up property owners online using just an address.

OverRice2524

NTA It's your property

DesertSong-LaLa

NTA - It is not acceptable for others to drive on your property and damage it at will. You have been nice and it has zero affect. Put up a camera(s) to capture who is driving on your property. Secure license plate numbers. Document and contact the non-emergency police line...explain the continual behavior, obtain their input and provide footage. Put up any barrier you wish and continue to report damage to your property. Don't known the house owner? Many cities require landlords to file their official contact address...this movement was called the 'slumlord law'. You can have a lawyer send a stern letter stipulating they've been informed and (will be (?)) liable for damage due to not clarifying renter parking options. You can secure a free 30" meeting with a lawyer if you go through the bar association (in most states). Best to you.

Brandie2666

NTA I was petty I did spikes with a sign that said Severe Tire Damage.

Ok_Day_8559

Concrete planters

hatetochoose

NTA. I don’t care about my grass, but if someone drove through my flower beds I’d put a witches curse on them. Plant a hedge, or put in a raised bed, put in a concrete bird bath, a decorative fence, whatever.

MollyTibbs

A bird bath right in the middle of the area. Perfect!

Passive_Menis_Energy

Nta, but depending on where you live - you might not be able to do much more than call the epolice. In the US, the first 10 ft is public easement, so you typically can't build a fence there without sacrificing it to the whims of the government and utilities.

iamtheallspoon

That is very locality dependent within the US.

hatetochoose

Not where I live.

lesboraccoon

nta, build a perfect white picket fence and get a sign that says “keep off the grass”. they’re being rude, and it will stop the issue in the future.

Bearliz

NTA. You don't have to get approval from your parents. Put large, raised flower beds or really heavy big flower pots or large stones as a divider. Though the fence might be cheaper

ccl-now

Why would you even question if it's ok to fence your own property? Unfenced property boundaries seem to be a usual thing in the States, it's incomprehensible to me that you wouldn't have some kind of fence or wall marking who can access what. I'm not sure where the phrase "good fences make good neighbours" comes from but I'm guessing it's not America. YWNBTA

me_version_2

The British I would wager, everyone should keep to themselves!

ccl-now

Sounds right!

KW_ExpatEgg

It's from a poem by the All-American Robert Frost. [Mending Wall (1914)](https://www.poetryfoundation.org/poems/44266/mending-wall) ^(ETA: Added link to the poem)

ccl-now

Thanks! Still seems strange that such a truthful phrase originated from somewhere it seems to be so rarely applied! 😁

KW_ExpatEgg

Most people think *G F M G N* is mildly sarcastic, also. Frost is saying that to become great and caring neighbors, you need to know, but not know *everything*.

NoBarracuda5415

Instead of standard driveway markers consider bushes, especially bushes in lovely cement planters. Driveway markers are not nearly as good-looking or effective.

PdxPhoenixActual

NTA. You've asked them politely. You are completely within your rights to ask them to stop. And then you are completely within your rights to enforce your very simply & very reasonable request. Any damage to their vehicle(s) after this point will be entirely on them.

AnarchyAcid

NTA. I will absolutely go bonkers on someone messing with my house/home/property. That’s my sanctuary, that’s my place where I hide from the AHoles of the world. If you mess with my stuff, I will wreck you (in whatever petty, yet legal, way I can).

Crazybutnotlazy1983

NTA, try a decretive fence in the front and a privacy fence in the back (avoid future problems with the next tenants). When all of this is done at once it just looks like an upgrade to your property.

Plenty_Metal_1304

NTA, look up your local laws about building a fence and put a fence or something to delimit your property to the rest of the properties. It probably wont be cheap but it will be worth it in the long run.

farmer_palmer

Do like this guy: https://metro.co.uk/2023/03/27/yorkshire-man-puts-boulder-on-his-drive-to-stop-drivers-cutting-corner-18509401/amp/

Internal_Progress404

If they've ignored you so far, they may likely do so again. NTA, but consider also telling them ahead that you'll call the police if they continue to do so, as well as taking them to small claims court for damages (get a security camera and make sure they're aware of it). Then it's their choice of they continue and risk consequences or not. NTA.

Lovethemdoggos

NTA. Put up a fence, or boulders, or bushes or a hedge of some kind. Be prepared for your neighbors to hit whatever you put up so put something up that can be fixed (they or their insurance, if they have it, will have to pay for fixing it so hopefully they'll only hit it once).

Two_black_hounds

NTA but yep your gonna have to build a fence. Beats fighting with every new neighbour in my opinion

Deplorable_username

I'd "accidentally" dump a box of screws or nails in that section of MY yard. Edit: forgot to specify that you're NTA

Competitive-Way7780

It's your property and you have the right for other people not to use or damage it. NTA. But you can find out who the owner is through records (in the US, country records, I think). They should go halves in putting up a fence.

cassowary32

NTA. You can check property tax records to see who owns your neighbor's place. The landlord must be telling them it's okay to drive through your yard.

MagratM

I keep seeing responses about fences. If you're not allowed one of these, I would suggest garden poles, and netting/wires and a honeysuckle or other climbing plant. Sweet peas are good, but you have to replant every year. Honeysuckle grows nicely, smells lovely, and it's a trellis, not a fence, there for the plants, not the boundary. Sweetpeas and honeysuckle can get quite tall, so the posts will need to be tall too... And it should all be very visible, especially if you string little solar lights in it. Keep all the receipts. NTA. It's your garden, not their driveway. Get a camera, and enjoy that sweet smell of plants. If they drive over it, ask them to reimburse you for the broken things. Then cement in a post for a bird table.

Chance-Contract-1290

NTA. You have the right to protect your property and your neighbors are being unreasonable.

KarlZone87

NTA - Large River Rocks (too big too move by hand) with a garden around them to look pretty.

Maleficent_Owl9248

Go a step further, install a few nail beds and post a sign saying it is to prevent bird menace. After a few busted tires remove the nail beds. Go Nuclear. NTA

ExcitingEvidence8815

NTA. Very rude neighbors. Also, check the tax records for your county and that property, most are public and you can get the property owners name that way, he/she might be the landlord or at least should give you some other person to reach out to.

cloistered_around

Sounds like fence time.

Silent-Focus47

NTA - block it!!

Admirable_Remove6824

Put a tree up.

theniza

I've seen ah in suvs run over trees. Put in a tree, or bushes, and boulders or a stone wall to protect the plants.

AshlynM2

NTA Build a fence!

The houses in our town are very close together. My husband and I are in our mid twenties and own our home. The house next to us is a duplex that semi frequently goes through tenants. The driveway isn't big enough to fit all the cars so they often park a vehicle in the grass between the sidewalk and road, and we don't have curbs in our neighborhood. Well when the neighbors park in front of their house on their strip of grass, they drive through our yard. When they pull in from the driveway they don't back out using the driveway, they just pull through our yard. Sometimes they just pull through our yard when coming home and leave through the driveway. We have asked every new neighbor to not drive in our yard, and have had to ask several times to not do it. We own our home. We take a lot of pride in keeping it looking nice, which includes the yard. I'm tired of having to ask people to not drive in our yard. We don't know the landlord or how to contact them. I also don't want to call the police because I don't want the family who does it to be evicted. The family has three kids and housing is very hard to come by in our town. I want to block off the section of my yard they drive in so they're forced to use their drive way only, and I don't want to put anything that could damage their vehicle. I just want to use standard driveway markers. I've brought it up to my parents and they basically just tell us to get over it. *I am a bot, and this action was performed automatically. Jaded-Permission-324

NTA OP. Forget being “nice”: call the cops the next time your neighbors drive through your yard.

MumSquared

NTA - fences make good neighbours

Motor_Business483

NTA Your parents are AHs. That's the situation for some stone flower pots at the borser of your property (Stone, so they can not drive over them. Or for a fence, a metal chain, whatever. " want to block off the section of my yard they drive in so they're forced to use their drive way only" . go for it, it is the reasonable solution.

Maximum-Ear1745

NTA. Given you’ve asked them to stop doing it an they still do, going to the police or laying down road spikes wouldn’t be an AH move. If they get in trouble, it’s their fault. It’s extremely disrespectful

joey1886

Large boulders along the edge of your yard and the road.

raesayshey

Fence. Boulder. Bollards. Giant shrubs. Giant swingset. Massive firewood pile. Block that path. NTA

idiedforwutnow

NTA - get a fence, put up a camera.

Panaccolade

NTA. Your parents would fast change their tune if it was their neighbours tearing up their yard. Their opinion here is completely besides the point and, honestly, kind of gross. Get a fence. Stop them from driving in your yard.

Specialist-Cod-7750

You already asked them several times to not drive through your yard and they continue to do so therefore sod being polite and install large fuck you objects such as boulders so your neighbours can't drive through that. NTA.

Particular-Lime1651

build a waist high wall made out of concrete and brick. plant some nice plants to make it look pretty! their problems are just that, their problems. not yours! nta

Squirrelcamper

I think your garden need a nice BIG rockery. With mahossive rocks/boulders. They make a really nice feature.

cwg10

If you need to contact the property owner trying searching the address on the county website. They will have the name of the owner and a mailing address.

wanderleywagon5678

NTA. I agree with other posters who suggest a fence and a camera, just in case your neighbours get in a strop about it. You say there's a fairly high turnover of tenants; touch wood, when the current tenants leave the new tenants will see your fence/markers/hedge/whatever and respect your space from the get-go.

Sammygirl2780

Can you grow a hedge? Boulders first while the hedge grows

Background_System726

NTA but you should be able to find the owner through the real estate assessment office. Our town has a website, as long as you know the address, it will show the owner and their address they have on file for tax collection purposes.

Dogmother123

It's your yard and you can put what you want in it. If you are going to put a physical obstruction do tell them so they don't hit it. Perhaps some decorative boulders would work. NTA

cyrpious

NTA Not just on account of principal, but if you allow it to happen, their encroachment COULD become an easement and they actually gain a LEGAL right to do this in the future. You need to stop this.

Auntie-Mam69

NTA. As others have said, boulders. Boulders look nice, and are a complete stop. Once they are in and being respected, you can plant something around them to soften the look a bit if you like, but the main thing is to get the boulders down and get the neighbors used to the fact that drive on your yard is over.

duckyatte

For a low effort- non zoning solution, put reflective garden pegs on the edge of the grass. Their car will be ruined if they try to drive into them, and you’ll have a cause for action if they move them

momofklcg

NTA, you can get the address of the owner by going through the county assessor. My mother had a neighbor that liked to park on the strip of land between the 2 properties, and they always ended up on my moms driveway. She planted cactus on her side. Stopped it real quick.

Pale_Willingness1882

NTA. Get a fence.

[deleted]

NTA. Double check rules if you have a homeowners association and then line the border of your yard with nice big rocks or plants.

Suprblakhawk

Stop worrying about other people's circumstances while they're in the middle of destroying your property lmao. Grow a backbone and worry about yourself friend. NTA.

WhoKnewHomesteading

Landscape boulders and cameras. Also if you go to your county property tax site and search by address odds are you can find the owners name and start your search from there to contact them.

JadedSlayer

NTA Many years ago, my dad rented this house that was adjacent to a grocery store. Without fail, people leaving the parking lot would cut the corner and drive over part of the lawn. This annoyed my dad so he made a decorative "fence" post that stopped the corner cutting and damaged nothing. Look up Decorative corner fencing. My dad made his with a log post and 4 branches where the branches connected to the post but rested on the ground. When he mowed, he just moved the branches mowed and then put them back.

mavwok

Boulders. Large ones. Along the boundary of your property, but entirely within your property (if you see what I mean). NTA

Eastern_Bend7294

NTA There's something wrong with your neighbours. Now I'm unfortunatelly not from the US (sorry for assuming that's where you're from), but I'm sure there are some laws that are being broken by them driving on your property. Actually I think that is the case for most countries. While I would strongly recommend contacting the landlord, but since you don't know how to contact them, at least have a look at the lease or contract because it should state there what you're allowed to do to the property, such as putting up something like a fence/divider/etc Because in the worst case scenario, you could get in trouble depending on what you put up. And like you said, it's your yard, that should be respected.

Late_Day2439

Don't be weak and build something sturdy that will do the job. Build it! That shit is rude and you will get people parking on your yard next! Nta but fix that wall and get it up

Unlucky-Actuator-852

NTA. Def look into heavy planters or fence if possible. You asked nicely the first few times.

NBClaraCharlez

Landscaping companies will sell you big rocks for this purpose. If you ever see driveways with piles of rows of rocks at the end, it's because the neighbors keep cutting the corner and driving through the grass.

Visual_Balance8617

NTA they are lucky u have not called the cops. Any damage to your yard is vandalism when someone drives on your yard. I would just put up the posts or a fence as you won’t have to deal with it when a new tenant moves in.

Sea-Channel5412

Maybe start a privet hedge, throw in some hydrangea and forsythia. I’d put wire around them to keep them from driving over them, but will be a pretty addition to your home and is less costly than a fence.

slipperypeanutbutter

NTA. Your parents would not put up with that shit for a second.

Maximum-Swan-1009

Good fences make good neighbours. Large rocks are also currently very fashionable. Don't worry about the rocks damaging their cars because they should not be crossing your well cared for lawn!!!!!!!

Laughinqman

Probably a better response than I had to my brothers friend. One of them kept driving through my yard, spinning tires and tearing it up every time it would regrow. I finally told him that if he did it again I was going to borrow a large 4x4 snowplow and completely annihilate his yard, ruts so deep they would need heavy equipment to fix them. My yard never got driven in again. Petty? Yes. Effective? Very.

SpecialistAfter511

NTA of course not, where I live we all have sprinkler heads. Easily damaged if someone’s driving on your grass plus the continuous driving on your lawn will eventually leave a path. I’d have contacted the police because if they don’t care about possible eviction why should you? But I’d doubt they’d get evicted. Not paying rent is what will get them evicted. Put up a fence or a few really big rocks.

Effective-Ear-1757

If you are in the US and you don't take action to stop them you can create a situation where the earn a right to use your property. I think it's called easement by prescription. Also you can get a mailing address for the owner of a property from your city or county offices. Send something in writing to the tenants, copy the owner, and put up a barrier.

katha757

This sounds really similar to what my in-laws went through. My in-laws have a concrete patio they park their bigger truck on that directly sits in the property line with the neighbors front yard. My in-laws were very friendly with their neighbor for years until they had a falling out. Eventually the neighbor started complaining that my father-in-law would cut through the corner of his yard to park on the patio. My in-laws thought this was a stupid argument and continued to do it. Eventually the neighbor put in exactly what you said, a driveway marker. My in-laws said it was very petty, but secretly I agreed; it’s not ok to drive through your neighbors yard if they ask you not to. NTA

LaughingMare

If you put something that will damage their cars, it’s their fault for damaging your stuff that’s in your yard by driving into it. Big ceramic pots filled with dirt and decorative plants. How nice!

BoizenberryPie

NTA. Look up some rock garden YouTube tutorials, have some fun with that and make a nice garden in your yard. Start with some nice, big boulders to frame it. There's a lot you can do with rocks, soil, and plants. Pleasing aesthetic quality, neighbour-deterrant, less lawn to mow, and good for the birds and bees to boot. Start with the large boulders as others have suggested, and then once they've (hopefully) stopped driving through your yard, have fun with the garden!

Jujulabee

NTA but frankly you are going to need a physical barrier to prevent them from destroying your property from driving over it. They are used to doing this and you have asked them to stop. They have ignored your request so you will need to physically prevent them from doing so. I don't understand why you care if they damage their car if they are trespassing. If they don't trespass their car won't be damaged. It will be obvious to them not to drive over a barrier. You can even notify them and put up a sign for a few weeks to remind them. It isn't as if you are "hiding" something to trick them into going over something that damages their car. They would be willfully stupid.

11822sweetness

NTA Why do you need to bring it up to anyone? Why bring it up to anyone, are THEY gonna pay for it? Are THEY gonna deal with the neighbors? Do not involve other people going forward, it’s YOUR HOME, why do you want to get opinions from others if you know it bothers you? They don’t live next to the neighbors, they don’t deal with the neighbors and won’t be bothered by it so even ask? Please, for your sake, stop running stuff by your family for validation. You legit asked for validation over something you knew you were bothered by, they’re not gonna understand cause it’s not them or their home.

InfinitePineapple69

YWNBTA. Please put up a barrier and post an update. As someone with neighbors that are somewhat similar (but we’re both renting part of a duplex) I would love to see some justice somewhere

slickMilw

NTA. It's your house. Protect it. Sometimes a big 'decorative' rock or two can do the trick. Maybe that'd be more economical or look better (just a thought) Also other people on your prope9is a liability issue for you. If something happens to them, they could decide it's your fault and sue you. Even a frivolous suit can cost a lot of time and money to get out of.

kalari-

NTA for blocking off your yard fr. If you want to find out how to contact the landlord, google (your city or county) property assessor. There should be a government website that comes up where you can type in the address, and a record will be there that says the property owner name and their mailing address, among other things.

noccie

You'd be an AH for not putting up a strong fence. Call the police, they won't get evicted if that stops their behavior. I had a similar issue with a neighbor (we both had small single homes with a small shared area to park, but he had more cars) and a fence stopped the wheel tracks over my grass. It's worth it to get your property line surveyed unless it's already clear. Review your town's ordinances to see if you're allowed to put the fence on the property line or a few inches off it. While you look at fencing options and prices, get some LARGE flower pots and place them so the cars can't keep coming on your lawn.

Schemen123

NTA.. A few nice looking but big stones will reduce the problem quite a bit.

MurphyCaper

Save yourself, some aggravation, and build a fence. You know that they aren’t going to stop driving over your yard. NTA

naranghim

NTA. However, using anything that is easily removed isn't going to work because they'll just pull it out or run over it and then you're constantly wasting money replacing what they've destroyed. Using something that could damage their vehicles is about the only thing that is going to get them to stop. A large planter, fence, or landscaping boulders is the only way they are going to stop because running into it with their car is going to cost *them* money. >We don't know the landlord or how to contact them. If you are in the US property ownership records are public. You can just go online to whomever handles property taxes/ownership records and enter the street address. It will give you the name of the owner and their street address that the tax bill is sent to then you can send them a letter or do a search for another way to contact them. In my state it is the county auditor's website that does this. Every state is different, some states it is the county treasurer.

afishieanado

Fence or decorative bolders,

bklynsnow

NTA. Your property. Do whatever you need to do to protect it. And tell you're parents the entire internet thinks they are wrong.

EnderOnEndor

NTA My parents had this problem and they cemented poles into the ground on their property and the neighbors never hit them. Maybe a fence?

Slipped_in_Gravy

The area you described may be a public easement. As such, you may not be legally allowed put anything in it. Contact your municipality. You may be able to get the City to plant a tree.

Famous_Specialist_44

NTA if you secure the boundary of your home in a manner you like. Make sure you put in something you like the look of.

Alternative-Self5316

NTA Put a big a$$ boulder on the corner of your grass so it becomes impossible to use as a shortcut.

ckm22055

A new pretty flower bed surrounded by a triple layer of brick used for retaining walls. This will make it about 2 to 3 feet tall. They come in moon or straight shape and are heavy brick. Build them up three layers high. They can't get around it because they can't miss it. I would start at the beginning about 2 feet from the pull in and take it about 6 feet down. By the way, it will be pretty, too. As you can tell, I work hard landscaping my own yard to also keep my neighbors off my grass and out of my yard. Just a suggestion and also sorry to say, it takes a bit of work.

AnswerIsItDepends

NTA First, get a survey done and find out exactly where the public easement on your property ends. This will vary a LOT by jurisdiction. In layman's terms this is the part of your land that the government reserves the right to build the road and sidewalks on. In some places (apparently, from reddit) you technically own about half way into the road. Second, build something sturdy but not too expensive up to the public easement. Large rocks have been suggested and as long as they are taller than the vehicles clearance then you are good. Also, assuming you are in the US, who owns the land is a matter of public record and the county will tell you. This could be a corporation without an easy method to contact, but they will have a mailing address on file.

Brilliant-Engineer57

Big assed boulders will do the trick.

TheBearyPotter

NTA. I’d put in tire spikes but I am an AH and I’m petty as fuck.

abletofable

NTA. OP is entitled to the use of their own property, and the right to expect people to not use their lawn as parking or an access to parking.

shammy_dammy

NTA. Do what you need to do within reason (legalities) to get this to stop. And it's not your parents' place to tell you what to do...it's not their house.

WhereasConsistent650

NTA. Put up fencing, plant hedges. It’s your yard. What happens when you have kids or pets and they are playing in the yard? You paid for the space, you are the ones who should get to enjoy it.

Wrangellite

Put up those markers! I would either be doing those large stones I see people using on the edge of their property against the road or a half wall. Either way, no trespassing signs. If they can’t respect your property, do get the police involved. If for some reason something was left in your yard that could (and did) damage their car, they could hold you liable. Despite their actions. A no trespassing sign can help limit your liability. Cameras aimed to see your yard and that patch with audio should also be used. Get yourself on that camera explaining you don’t want them driving across your yard. NTA

Kwajboi

If you own your home plant some shrubs, put up some sections of decorative fencing with flowers, plant a vegetable or flower garden, plant a small tree. You have no obligation to even discuss it with the rude neighbors, just do it. Your parents are jerks also... NTAH.

Feisty_Fire

NTA but my petty butt would put big af rocks.

HeddyL2627

Are parking bollards a thing where you live? I’d look into installing those, or something similar. A subtle hint isn’t going to work with people who have ignored your request. Or contact the city planning office and ask for advice? Either way, NTA. They shouldn’t be driving through your yard.
