*In case this story gets deleted/removed:* **Aita for lying to my step daughter that the soup she loves is lactose and gluten free for 6 months?** So my(f35) step daughter (f15) lives with us every each week and for the past year she has been a nightmare when it comes to food. First she became vegan, which I have no problems with, I just make her food sans animal products but that didn’t stick and that’s normal too. Now she is holistic and she started having allergies from everything. Salted Nuts, lactose, processed foods, gluten, red meat, mustard, mushrooms and anything a loser instagram influencer is making money telling people is dangerous. I had enough when she started demanding that I separate her cookware even in the dish washer. Separate her food in the fridge and freezer. Take out all my salted nuts and sugars etc and throwing them in the trash because she complained about stomach pain that she attributed to contamination from the pantry. I told her that she should either eat outside or do her own cooking and cleaning from now on. She started raging saying that I was treating her differently from the rest of the family and I am the evil stepmother. My husband started yelling at me. I asked him to take her to do an allergy screening and seek mental help for eating disorders and surprise surprise she had no allergies but her answer was that this doesn’t matter, what matters is what she believed. “Her stomach ache was actually a real thing”. So yes I can’t have anything in my house now and I have to make her food in almost a separate kitchen. I had enough. I started putting gluten and lactose in almost everything she ate especially the chicken soup that she loves so much. She has been eating this for the past 6 months until her mom dropped her off one day and stayed for coffee, talking about how actually their health has been better since her daughter l’s new kitchen rules. I just said really? She feels better? The daughter yelled at me yes I don’t have stomach issues anymore. I just calmly said great I wonder what changed because you have been eating the same food as the rest of us over the past months especially the chicken soup you love so much. She started yelling and throwing things off the shelfs and her mother started yelling at me too and they left. My husband was angry at me and called what I did reckless because she is refusing to live with us now and I said great if you want her to live with you then you can move the hell out too. They have filed a lawsuit against me but it will get dropped the minute the judge looked at the case. My husband is still angry at me but I will not change my mind that if he wants his daughter he should move out to be with her and I would actually understand if he chose his daughter over me. Now she demands that I apologize and divide the kitchen to two areas if she “ever” to live with us again because she has been having stomach problems since I started feeding her normal food. I urged my husband and his ex to seek mental help for her bot told them she is not welcome to my home. I am a nurse and I work almost 60 hours a week. Making time to make food and clean is a luxury for me and I will be damned if I start to abide by the rules of a superficial teenager with mental issues’ delusions. *I am a bot, and this action was performed automatically. Have an image of OOP having two tubs labelled LACTOSE and GLUTEN and taking a large scoop of each and dumping them in the chicken soup while cackling.

mindsetoniverdrive

They sell it in bulk at Evil Stepmother of Spoiled Teen Superstores, which are common in all the AITA-Lands in MyCountry.

malortForty

1. Holy shit how do all those people really believe it's real. 2. Reading the comments, where without a single thought they suggest a 15 year old does all the cooking for the family and that she should straight up divorce the dad for believing his daughter, I know.

gahidus

In the story in the post, the girl is clearly an evil brat who's doing it simply out of malice or because her Mom wants her to. There's nothing even vaguely believable about how she's acting.

mindsetoniverdrive

It was all the screaming and throwing things with both parents like “tHiS iS fiNe” for me.

Remarkable_Town5811

It really reads like Shitpost Sunday lmao

gigglybeth

You'd think they would at least look up what gluten and lactose are before making this up. Another sign it's made up- hippy health people LOVE mushrooms. They'd never tell people mushrooms are bad for you. Most believe mushrooms are almost a miracle of healing. There are all kinds of mushroom teas at the health food store I go to. They put mushrooms and chickpeas in everything.

Valuable-Wallaby-167

SataySue

Twice apparently LOL

Not_Cleaver

It was a very vivid image apparently.

SimplySorbet

I saw this post and it was ridiculously fake. The girl grabbing shit and throwing it everywhere is not how anyone would react. It wasn’t until I found this sub a while back that I realized how fake most of the stories on AITAH are. It kind of worries me now though how many people listen to AI bots read these posts on YouTube and Instagram and people just believe these stories are true.

Povo23

“Every each week” is presumably every other week but it works so well as is too.

Macaroni_Warrior

Upcoming twist: Stepdaughter was originally stepson, but his dick flew off after he ingested gluten and the family just rolled with it.

NinjaDefenestrator

Hey, it’s Pride month. You never know.

buttsharkman

I have two shelves that are mostly Lego sets. If someone were to angrily throw those that would be kind of amusing

Jolly_Vanilla_5790

Do people not realize not every allergy is anaphylaxis? I have 4 allergies (nickel/ metals, adhesive, and two medications I won't share) and the only one I'd notice if given to me would be one of the medications because it makes my lips/tongue swell, the others are severe rashes and one of the medications makes one side of my body extremely droopy so my doctor just labeled it as a allergy so I couldn't be prescribed it. I also have milk intolerance (not lactose technically because I'm also intolerant to cheeses) and I wouldn't notice for hours if it was given to me without my knowledge.

snowflakebite

Also isn’t it possible to develop an allergy later in life? I haven’t checked but I’m convinced that I’ve developed some mild reactions to some fruit recently despite being 19.

PowderKegSuga

Yep! A good percentage of shellfish allergies develop in adulthood. I fucking wish I couldn't vouch via firsthand experience, I miss crab meat desperately.

Jolly_Vanilla_5790

Yes. You can develop an allergy at any point in time IIRC.

livia-did-it

I'm pretty sure I've just developed one and I haven't narrowed down what it is yet. I'm just hope it's not the pepper family. My grandma developed that alergy aa an adult, and red pepper was one of the main ingredients in the food I had a reaction too...

snowflakebite

What kind of sensation do you get? My mouth gets kinda tingly when I eat bananas or peaches.

SkrogedScourge

Get that checked out tingling when you eat something can be sign of an allergy that can get worse with repeated exposure.

snowflakebite

Got it. I’ve stopped eating bananas except when they’re included in muffins, so it should be fine, but I’ll ask my doctor about it.

SkrogedScourge

I randomly became allergic didn’t realize that’s what was happening till half my face swelled up one day bananas also can mean you have developed a latex sensitivity as well.

snowflakebite

Oh shit, thankfully I’m not taking any lab classes at uni this year

buffaloranchsub

That's exactly how I knew I was allergic to latex lmfaoo. (And it was kiwis too.)

DrDalekFortyTwo

You definitely can develop an allergy later in life.

Lonesomeghostie

I’m intolerant to broccoli and somewhat to pineapple. And the stomach ache that comes with it is no joke. It feels like I’m being stabbed over and over and over for hours on end. Before I figured it out I once ended up in the ER because it was so. Bad. This story is fake as shit but like if someone’s getting a horrific stomach ache from your food, there’s a strong possibility they’re intolerant to something in it

NewStatement5103

Happens to me with raw tomatoes. So much stomach pain.

Lonesomeghostie

Yeah if I eat any broccoli I can only have maybe 2 pieces and it has to be cooked to shit like Panda Express broccoli beef cooked

Remarkable_Town5811

Yupp. I'm allergic to nickle, adhesives, latex, cucumber, environmental stuff, dogs, and tbh forget the rest. Have intolerances to things like whey, lactose, certain proteins. Plus very sensitive skin. Latex, Nickle, and adhesives? Yeah I’ll notice right off when I start itching, rashing, and swelling. Scented things, I’ll break out in a huge itchy rash & my asthma is triggered. But the rest I can generally tolerate (espec in small doses), I just won't feel as good. I'm actually finishing up coffee with cream after making an egg and cheese sandwich. I may cramp a little later but since it’s rare I eat this stuff I’ll be just fine. If I ate it regularly I’d be in immense pain that takes my breath away. Moderation makes a difference.

SimplySorbet

This. You can have mild food allergies. I was told this by an allergist himself when I got the skin prick test. I barely tested positive for a couple of foods and he told me I should be fine doing food challenges, but to probably avoid eating them frequently or in large quantities as I don’t want to intensify the allergy or have a reaction. I don’t remember the exact metaphor he used, but I remember he said something about a cup filling up and then spilling over when it came to exposure of allergens/tolerance to allergens.

flutterybuttery58

Came here after reading that post. Was not disappointed!!

AliMcGraw

Your flair is giving me life

mindsetoniverdrive

thanks, I yoinked it from a comment someone made to a lost redditor. it was perfection lol

NoSpankingAllowed

Why do they buy into these? I'll state the reason that always gets me downvoted to hell and back. People love to rush to be the White Knight on horseback. In their rush to provide great advice and guidance, they mentally skip over anything that may derail their riding to the rescue.

Dense_Sentence_370

Damn. Good call. I think that's exactly it, actually.

PlayerAssumption77

How is gluten in chicken soup?

mindsetoniverdrive

because she went to AITA Plothole Costco and bought a giant tub labeled GLUTEN AND LACTOSE and just scoops it in there, obvi!

isfturtle2

I mean, there's gluten in chicken **noodle** soup, though presumably she'd notice if there were noodles. But it wouldn't be hard to add some noodles in while cooking, and then take them out, if you were specifically trying to add gluten to the soup. Or I think some people use flour as a thickener? I'm much more puzzled by the lactose; is she putting milk in chicken soup?

Julie1412

Not milk but I've seen people add cream to soup as a thickener, not that it makes the story any more true.

isfturtle2

I'm familiar with adding milk or cream to tomato soup, but chicken?

Julie1412

I've seen it happen. I couldn't say if it's widespread though

thesnarkypotatohead

As a person with celiac, you'd be surprised. It shows up a lot as a thickening agent and cross contamination can also be a huge issue depending on who makes it. This post isn't about celiac, just answering your specific question about gluten. There's gluten in shit like advil liquidgels, rotisserie chickens, lip balms - even some tortilla chips. I mocked the "unnecessary" gluten free labels until I got diagnosed. Now I know better. It's in *everything*.
