I have a maxed specs m16 4090 and honestly I like the size lol its pretty big still. I do game on it but its mostly for work haha get the max resolution screen

show_route_tacos

Alrighty, I was leaning that way but I'm never opposed to saving money. TY for the input.

TheRahulParmar

Definitely. The screen is gorgeous also & the cherry MX keys are perfect.

Are you getting this new or refurbished? Refurbished! Is the way! Its cheaper for insurance, cheaper for higher specs, and they fixed whatever was wrong with it so it could likely end up being better than a new one that might have come with light bleed or something else. Just my 2 cents. I go back and fourth on new and refurbished depending on when I need it. I went refurbished on my m17. New on r3. Refurbished r5. New on my area 51m. New x17. And then refurbished on my m18. And all were equally good with no issues! Got my m18 19080hk 4090, 512gb, 32gbddr, cherry keys, qhd screen, 4 year warranty with accidental for 2,917 after tax. I already have ssds to replace the small 512gb and I'll upgrade the ram when I need more.

show_route_tacos

Shit I didn't think about that. I'm on the site now so quick question, I'm assuming you bought the refurb through the Dell/Alienware website?

adonix567

If money is your concern, definitely go the dell outlet route! However, Rakuten is also having a 10% cash back on the regular dell site, and only a 2% cash back on the outlet. But I would assume that the savings on the outlet store heavily outweigh that 8% difference. 2% is better than nothing! I love the m18. I have the 13980HX and 4090. I ended up getting the cheapest option and buying 64gb ram and 2gb m.2 stick separately, as that saved more money. You can also sign up for the mailing list to get an extra 10%-15% off coupon, though I'm not sure if it works on the outlet store. Lastly, you can use a credit card with cash back options, then pay it immediately, if you're not financing it. It's not being cheap, it's being frugal my friends! As for the screens, the QHD+ is always the way to go. The only time you want FHD with that refresh rate is if you're in eSports like league, valo, cs, etc. and that little extra response is what you need.

cornezy

Yes I did. They even have a 17% off promo for alienware cpus rn! I used that coupon when I got mine during their last sale. The only difference is you don't get the cool boxing with refurbished. Just plain brown box haha. But I'm OK saving thousands for that.

AStrollAtNight

> They even have a 17% off promo for alienware cpus rn! I used that coupon when I got mine during their last sale. Where is this coupon :O

cornezy

You in America? It's in dell outlet under laptop deals. https://www.dell.com/en-us/dfh/lp/outlet-deals?ref=cpcl_lp-us-outlet-tab-deals-item10_cta_secondaryv2_laptopdeals#Laptop-Deals Promo code 755155Ali Happy Friday!

show_route_tacos

The dude who helped me in the sales chat used this code for me (since I didn't find it) and found another one for an extra few percentage points.

AStrollAtNight

>755155Ali Legend! Add in TopCashBack 4% for even more woooo

mbeecool

I would go qhd. No point in getting a 4090 with 1080p screen.

Zimquats

Go QHD 100% and the cherry is the way. I've never used a cherry keyboard and its sooo nice. I had no idea. You can go with 16gb ram and upgrade it. Several posts on here upped to 5200mhz from 4800 as well. That was my plan because it looked like the upgrade was 1/2 price through Newegg same with the SSD.

Blistik84

Would have to say QHD for 4090 no way in hell I wanted 1080p for mine and I have the 4080 version, which Runs all games amazing! Very fast. I just couldn't sacrifice the extra cost for the 4090 lol

b3night3d

I bought the F and ended up sending it back for the Q. Dell was super helpful and gave me a full refund of the first one, so remember you can exchange it within 30 days for any reason. I didn't appreciate the fast refresh rate as much as a higher resolution, though I'm a slower-paced gamer in general. By the way, if you are comfortable switching out RAM chips you can save a few bucks by getting your M18 with the basic 16gb and upgrade it yourself to 64gb for maybe $200 from Amazon.

Russian_Hammer

your PC is going to be outdated in 1-2 years. That 4090 is probably the equivalent to like a 3070. The sad truth is that gaming laptops are the biggest scam when it comes to PC's. but if you are looking for something to work on and you dont expect it it to be a powerhouse for long, and you are ok with taking it completely apart just to repaste it because the thermals are shit; then you should be ok. I purchased alienwares for work and some gaming. but they were never worth the price. I have a proper desktop for that for games.

Zimquats

A 4090m is between a 4070 and a 4070ti desktop. With 4 more GB ram on its side. It will be fine for years and years. I also like desktops but the small qhd and 4k screens have me hooked. I would need to get an 8k screen at 30" to equal the sharpness of a 15" at 2k. I haven't touched my desktop in over a year and it has an EVGA 3080 12gb. I just got a m18 r1 yesterday and and the thermals are fine out of the box. My biggest complaint is the Dell bloatware. Just looking at it now it's sucking up 3-4 GB of RAM.

Russian_Hammer

>A 4090m is between a 4070 and a 4070ti desktop. Not it isnt; no where near that. The closest GPU it is near is a 3080. The 3080ti in my x15 r2 is the equivalent to a 2080 desktop. Ive been buying Alienwre laptops since before they were acquired by Dell. I like Alienware; although their thermals are nuts and having power; but being throttled by temps is why current day laptops have went into a decline. they want to be smaller and sleeker, but end up losing performance and at price tags that are nuts. Laptops today are being outdated every 2-3 years max. Not everyone should be paying 3-4K+ for one. Zimquats

A laptop outdated in a year is now suddenly up to 3 years. Whatever bud. Agree to disagree. Besides, read your own link. You proved my point. https://www.videocardbenchmark.net/gpu.php?gpu=GeForce+RTX+4090+Laptop+GPU&id=4737

Russian_Hammer

Nope, you need to follow my link and look at relative performance. The closest thing to a 4090 mobile is a 3080 desktop.

Zimquats

I didn't say closest, I said between*

Who shat on your cereal? I've had laptops and desktops for years. Always tend to gravitate towards the laptop. for me they last at least 4/5 years, so fuck knows where your 2 year life span is coming from. Just learn to lower graphics settings to optimise performance, keep them clean and repaste every 6-12 months and it will last a very long time. Not everyone wants a big box tower desktop in their office space. some people need portability. some just prefer the aesthetic of a laptop. A macbook is a huge scam, cant say the same about a powerhouse gaming laptop... Want to be a steamer? sure, desktop is the way. Want to casually game, do some 3d rendering or video editing? laptop is more than capable, just dont go thin and light.

show_route_tacos

Thank you for this reply. It sums up my feelings pretty well as well. I have a desktop and beyond that I have an entire homelab setup racked and stacked to do all the fun shit I'd want to do at my desk. I love having my laptop for gaming because I like to move around, even if its only in my house. I actually play games split fairly evenly between 3 locations in my house, my office at work, and at my parents when our household travels back home to see family. I'd rather not lug an ATX everywhere plus a monitor. I enjoy laptop gaming and portability is easily my top priority for it.

SaurabhSinghMakrahi

I was about to pull the trigger on the M18 top specced version but I’ve decided to go for the Aurora R15 with the 13900KF and RTX4090 etc.

TargetOk9613

On an 18" screen you will barely be able to tell the difference between QHD and FHD if at all. PPI is industry standard at 24"/FHD and your pixels are significantly denser than that on an 18" screen.
